Super cute old timey deli hidden inside a drugstore. No frills just good sandwiches and prices. Lemonade and limeade is hand squeezed. This is an old-timey joint and feels very simple but hearty. We were walking the downtown area of Charlottesville and came upon a real old school soda fountain. Being fans of nostalgia, my wife and I stopped in to check it out. When entering, we noticed the pharmacy that was up front, complete with customers picking up there prescriptions. It's not a huge pharmacy, but the kind you would see in the 50's with two aisles and homemade pecan pies by the front door for sale. As we walked further back, there were a couple of tables and chairs....and of course the long counter seating. We sat at the counter and a nice older lady gave us menus. Having just eaten, I ordered a lemonade and my wife had a chocolate chocolate soda. For those of you that don't know, a chocolate chocolate soda is a chocolate soda topped with chocolate ice cream.....yeah not for the faint of heart. The nice lady moved with purpose behind the counter, efficient in her movements. You could tell she may have been the original employee....kind, good at what she does, smiling at customers...really just everyone's grandma. She delivered our drinks and moved on to make a chicken salad sandwich for someone.... Our drinks were delicious and we were commenting that if we had lived in there area, it would be the place that we would meet for lunch or breakfast....saying hi to the regulars by name....what a fun environment. Just the touch of nostalgia I needed. To find the dining walk straight back through the storefront. You'll find a friendly and unassuming staff full of warmth. The menu has basic sandwich fare but don't discount it. Their Chicken Salad was delicious. The real pleasure lies in their old fashioned soda fountain and I was pleased with my root beer float. The place is small but they offer good food and great service. The clientele tends to be more seasoned or of people working on the mall in for lunch either way. The Friday before Thanksgiving we ordered a pecan pie from Timberlakes. Our daughter very much wanted a homemade pecan pie, and Timberlakes told us we could pick it up on Wednesday, the day before the holiday. On Tuesday of the following week we received a call from Timberlakes saying that our pie was ready to be picked up. Later that day my wife called back to say ask if it would be all right to come in on Wednesday for the pie. The woman answering asked for our name, and said that our order would be waiting for us on Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving. When I got there on Wednesday, they told me that they had no trace of an order with our name. I waited while they checked and talked with various employees, and then they said that that had nothing for us. We were very upset and disappointed. read more

Cutest place ever. Just adorable. You expect to walk in and find your great-great grandfather sitting up on one of the café stools having himself and old-fashioned chocolate malt or something. On this particular occasion, however, we weren't there to time travel, we were using the pharmacy. Getting a simple anti-biotic, but had been warned by the doctor that recent prices for that drug had sky-rocked. Called Walmart, called CVS, called Wegman's and almost didn't call Timberlakes because how the heck could they beat Walmart prices? However, I'd already decided that since I was paying a fortune for this antibiotic, I's rather shell out to a local, small shop and not to the big box store. THEN IT TURNS OUT, they were like 1/2 the price of Walmart and CVS both! Moral of the story: don't assume the big pharmacies have the best prices. read more

Timberlake's has been around since the dawn of time & it's really a glimpse into the past. Take time to read the newspaper articles & look at the pictures on the wall in the back near the soda fountain. We were treated very nicely by all staff at Timberlake's. We even got to see "Billie", if you've taken the time to look at the newspapers on the wall, you'll know she's been working behind the soda fountain since the 40's! To be completely honest, food is a little disappointing. We weren't prepared for anything amazing, and we wanted to support the business. I had a turkey sandwich & my mom had the chicken salad. We each got a soda fountain drink (limeade & cherry smash). I know that modern technology has sort of taken over, and can be a huge time-saver, but I soooo wish that they operated as they did in the "old days" (ie: my turkey was heated in the microwave & there was a flat screen tv on the counter). But it's very cute & a piece of history, and I hope it doesn't disappear anytime soon. I would love to see it spruced up a little & maybe returned to it's former glory. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area. read more

Timberlake Pharmacy AKA Timberlake Drug Store and Soda Fountain located on the Downtown pedestrian mall of Charlottesville, VA. It is a sin if these places don't survive in today's world. Now this place is a drug store and in the very back is a small cafe with a few tables and a counter on top of a green & white checker board tile floor. You can get your toothpaste or prescription & your stomach filled at the same time. The menu is pretty simple, BLTs, deli sandwiches, grilled cheese, tuna salad, cakes, ice cream, cookies and shakes all at very low prices. On this visit I had the strawberry milkshake and it was decent. Drug prices vary so much that I contacted 2 chains and Timberlake when I needed to have a prescription filled. I don't have insurance and had learned the hard way that prices vary immensely. Timberlake's charge was $85; the 2 chains had told me the charge would be $109 and $107.50. It was already 2:00, I'd not had lunch and was hungry. At the store's soda fountain, I had a great roasted turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce. Yummy. read more

This is the worst pharmacy I have ever been to. My wife and I love to support local business, but if you want to be judged and yelled at by a pharmacist and humiliated in front of others than this is the place for you. I stayed as calm as can be and other customers are looking at this man like he s crazy. My medication did not work for me so my doctor called in a different brand. The pharmacist refused to fill. The doctor called the prescription in and explained all this without an issue. When I went to fill a few days later there was a problem. Thanks Timberlakes. I hope you to take pride in not filling a prescription a patient can have seizures and die without. read more

This is a hidden gem on the downtown mall. In the back of this old-school drug store is a sandwhich and ice-cream parlor that looks and feels like the 1930s. Not much has changed, including the delicious sandwiches, the amazing beef chili, tasty homemade lemonade and limeade, and the delectable pies and desserts. Their corned beef sandwich along with side of chips and bowl of chili that I had was amazing. But don't forget their amazing dessert selection. I stopped in Timberlake's yesterday and had the nicest meal for the money EVER! What a unique place- it saddened me to read the other reviews that found fault. One questioned the food price- $4.00 for a chicken salad- that is CHEAP! And my pastrami sandwich was amazing. Then to find out about the wonderful bond between the owner and staff. I used to go to Timberlakes back in the 70s, and they were always so friendly and sweet. They'd let me and my friends use the restroom, even though we weren't paying customers. I took my 8 year old son there a year ago, and I was shocked at how rudely we were treated. The older woman up front glared at us as soon as we walked in. In an effort to "break the ice," I explained that I used to visit the store in the 1970s, and she responded with some garbled, negative comment about my appearance! I ate for my second time ever back in August and the first having been about eight or nine years ago when I was a broke high school student who was in a special play at The Discovery Museum for my drama class and decided to stop by and try it before having to catch the bus. Had I left a tip I wouldn't have had money for the bus so the first time I didn't tip...sorry to whoever that was. Fast forward to August 2013 my sister who works on the mall treated me to lunch for my birthday at Timberlake's. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich which was okay. My sisters, mom, and I are critical of any chicken salad because my mom's mother made the best chicken salad ever when she was alive so I'll probably never find a great chicken salad and therefore I wasn't expecting to be blown away by theirs which I wasn't. I understand they need to make money off their food and I'm not an expert in the restaurant industry but I do think $4 is too expensive for just a sandwich. Here at Timberlake's that's all you get is the sandwich. For $4 I was expecting some potato chips or something to come with it instead of just a small sandwich. Our waitress wasn't rude but she wasn't friendly either and my sister dealt with a rude employee at the front of the store. I don't remember what my sister got to eat but I do remember our bill for just the two us being close to $15 if not more. I will say the nice thing about this place is my sister can get prescriptions filled here cheaper than Kroger. Maybe one day I'll go back to try something from the soda fountain or a dessert but never will I go back for an over priced lunch! read more

We went here with the kids, and the place was everything you would hope an old style drug store would be like. Finally, someplace in Charlottesville with "real" southern charm. They greeted us very warmly and made us feel right at home as we ordered. The fresh squeezed lemonade and limeade were wonderfully refreshing and my teenage daughter had her first ever egg cream, and loved it! Then as we were getting ready to leave they came over and asked my toddler son if he was full, he said no, and she promptly asked me if it was OK to give him a piece of cake, of course!
