My wife and I are locals, we took advantage of a "free" room at Ameristar this past Wednesday night. On a whim, we decided to try Timberline again. I walked up to the hostess, asked for a table for two, she asked if I had a reservation, I said no, (the place was half empty) she seemed annoyed, walked us past several nice (empty) tables to one at the very back, right outside the kitchen door. She dropped the wine list and menus on the table and turned around and walked away without saying a word?! I've had a better hostess at Village Inn. The food is ok, but definitely not worth the money. I love the place, and the ambiance (when you're not right outside a noisy kitchen) but I won't be back. read more

Simply the best restaurant in the Peak to Peak area. My husband and I have attended two Yelp Elite events here and have visited once on our own, and nothing in Black Hawk, Central City, or off of the Peak to Peak highway between those areas and Nederland even comes close. The food quality, service, and atmosphere are a step above everything else in the region. You will pay for that quality, but that's to be expected and it's great to have a place that is able to provide it. Make sure you make reservations as that is necessary and bring your appetite. As a side note, the restaurant is located on the ground floor of the Ameristar right in the casino, but in my experience, this does not negatively affect the atmosphere as the Timberline Grill is closed off from the casino and in it's own little "building." This was a wise choice. Worth your time and your hard earned money, particularly if you are spending an evening in Black Hawk or Central City. read more

Went in last night and have an update-- Pour from the bar has improved significantly. Oysters just as good as i remembered them. 20 Oz. Porterhouse seemed a bit light, but was outstanding and perfectly cooked. My wife had the lamb, which was declared excellent. Booth is the way to go. This was our second visit. This time we passed on the salads that we were disappointed with the first time we ate there. We went for the oysters app - fresh and cold. I had the lamb which was simply outstanding - I loved the sauce and the chops were cooked perfectly. My wife had the Sea Bass which was also declared excellent. The service was attentive, but not overpowering. That's the good stuff. Why not 5 stars? First, our table. Very close to the gas fireplace and also close to the kitchen. Every server in the place used it as a corridor, which was very distracting. We tried to re-route them by pulling out chairs, they just slammed into them and nothing changed. Don't accept a table near the kitchen or fireplace! I think a booth would be OK. Second reason for no 5 stars is the stingy pour at the bar. Yes, OK, this is a common thread of mine - they charge $6.75 for a 12YO Macallan and it's probably exactly a shot. It's embarrassing to have to order 6 drinks with dinner - just jack the price to $12 and give me a decent drink, OK? At least it wasn't a $12 shot like other places, so ordering a double here is an option. Expensive places shouldn't have the problems above, so 4 stars, not 5. read more

I would have given a 5 star review however they were out of a few things on the menu including the lobster which I had my heart set on. Opted for the 1.5 lb king crab legs and they did not disappoint. I get excited when you can pull a large piece of crab out on the first crack. Absolutely delicious!! One of the gentlemen at my table ordered the Berkshire pork chop known as the "King of pigs" according to our waiter. Served medium with an amazing char on the outside and paired perfectly with potatoes au gr atin and baby carrots. Our table was stuffed but couldn't resist desert which consisted of a Godiva hazelnut martini and carrot cake. Not your traditional carrot cake as heavily influenced with an orange and praline flavoring. I loved the extra little touches like the lighted menus so I am not digging in my purse for the flashlight on my phone and the bread service was on point. First time in Black Hawk. We are staying at Ameristar. Made a reservation for dinner a few weeks ago. We were promptly seated and greeted immediately with water and bread/butter. Our server Jessica was lovely and helpful. My husband and I both ordered the prime rib. I'm very particular with beef. I need it to be well done. We started with an appetizers, which were very good (soup and cantaloupe salad). Our prime rib was delivered and omg! Our portions were HUGE. I would give 5 stars to the bartenders who are customer service oriented and attentive. Food is ok but the bone marrow is the worst we've ever had. Sour chimichurri on top? Really? The bone edges were burnt yet the marrow was still solid, pink and undercooked and still cold. The dressing on top completely killed the flavor of te marrow (horrible chimichurri). Clearly the bone was frozen and shoved into a high temp oven/grill that did not work. I am not a chef but can cook and have treveled. Reach ot to find out how it's really done properly. Slow roast, garlic parsley and maybe cilantro. That is all you need at most to taste the essence of the marrow. read more

Our first visit to Ameristar and we dined at Timberline Grill. The hostess was unfriendly and we felt like a bother. My husband had lamb shank (expensive) which was overcooked and he only had a bite or two. I had Game hen which was also overcooked and dry. Appetizer was mediocre. Salad was great. My partner and I were staying at Ameristar for the night and grabbed dinner here. We didn't make a reservation so we waited a bit for seats at the bar. Definitely make a reservation ahead of time! The bartender who was serving us was fantastic, very speedy, observant, and helpful. One of the best meals I have ever had. I was a little reticent because it is a restaurant at a casino. But it truly was excellent. We had the double cut pork chop, salmon, chop salad, and the peas (as a side) and the carrot cake desser. Everything was cooked, prepared, and plated perfectly. Service and ambiance were also great. I don't like noisy restaurants (which many seem to be these days). Timberline had music playing softly and was great. Service was excellent. This place never disappoints. My visit Thursday night was phenomenal and I must let you know! First of all the atmosphere of Timberline is awesome. It's like you are in a cozy cabin. A perfect setting for date night. The food selection is off the charts. Steak, seafood, as well as vegetarian options. A standout is their NY strip steak. Very flavorful. The kitchen definitely takes great pride in what it puts out. The wine list is superb, be sure to ask for some wine pairings. They are very knowledgeable. Make sure you save room for dessert. The only reason I gave it a one star is for the hostess that was very nice and accommodating. Our food was nothing special or worth what we paid for. As for the waiter he made us feel very unwelcome, he was not friendly and forgot one of our appetizers until he was reminded by my husband. It was just an uncomfortable dining experience and he made us feel like we didn't belong. We are blue collar everyday people and own a business ourselves and are more than capable of paying for a restaurant with these prices and would never make a customer feel that way. The maître d' was on top of it, and was doing a great job getting people seated on a busy night. We ordered 2 appetizers - shrimp cocktail and bisque. The waiter forgot the bisque, which was served right before dinner arrived. The bisque was okay. The prime rib was very good. My filet mignon was dry and I didn't eat it. I ate my date's prime rib instead (sorry honey!). The bread they brought out was delicious. I've heard the chef here is very good. I think it was a very busy night, and I could tell the staff was working hard, and they were all very friendly and accommodating. I would eat here again, but just not order the filet mignon. The ambiance was relaxed and comfortable. A nice break from the loud casino and buffet outside. The bar was packed and everyone was having a great time. The restaurant was very clean, and the lighting was perfect. My only true complaint is that the restroom is wayyyyyy outside in the casino. I'm sure that this is a corporate decision. But the restrooms are a bit of a hike away through a winding crowd. It is what it is. The prices seemed a teeny bit high, but they do have a captive audience unless you want to eat at a buffet. My date loved his dessert. I didn't try it simply because I was full. We will eat here again try some new dishes and I'm sure we will have fun again. This place never fails, our favorite restaurant here at the resort. The meal isn't average, but you pay for what you get. The have several Oysters options from the East Coast to the West. Our favorites are the USDA Prime Rib, Filet Mignon and Salmon. Apps, must try are the Lobster Spring Roll and the Market Oysters. Only downfall is that they do not have a lot of Syrah by glass option (first world country problem). Average meal for two is $150.00, but so worth it! read more

The hostess, Heather, was about as rude as a person can be. We arrived 10 min early for our reservation. The restaurant was practically empty and she made us wait the entire 10 minutes before she sat us. We asked if we could sit in a booth instead of the table which was right by the kitchen and she said they were all reserved. Said we should have requested it when we made the reservation. Like that's an option or something someone would know that has never been to the restaurant before. 5 booths were still empty when we left. The food was good and the waiter, Michael, was excellent which is why I gave 2 stars. When you spend $280 on a meal for two, you want a nice experience. Heather, or should I say, Karen ruined the experience. She should be fired. She was also extremely rude to us when we walked out of the restaurant. I guess I feel sorta sorry for her. If you don't want to gamble at Ameristar, but want to spend some time in this beautiful place, no worries, just come for dinner at Timberline Grill, it's a sure thing! One of the best meals I've had in a long time. The jumbo prawns tasted fresh and had a great texture; they are served with cocktail sauce and just a kiss of lemon. We enjoyed the savory, delicious broth in the French Onion Soup and the Garden Salad was so good with lots of textures, and colors, and a dressing I could drink. The sides of roasted cauliflower and roasted broccolini with fried chickpeas were unique and delicious. If you've never had fried chickpeas, it's a surprise texture! Portions are generous, (so much food), so consider sharing a plate of something. Our filet and NY Strip were cooked perfectly. I'm going to be thinking of that filet for a long time. They offer one sauce with the steak, but honestly these don't need any sauce to be amazing. The drinks were good and they have lots of choices. The carrot cake dessert was like a piece of art; save a little room and share it with a friend! Our server, Suavick, was personable and so professional. I wouldn't write a bad review had the food been better. I paid $68 for a less than sub par rib eye steak. The soup my wife had she couldn't even Finnish and cost $12 a bowl. They charge for anything more than one sauce per meal. And they are $5 a piece my wife's fountain soda was 4 dollars. All together it cost $195 dollars including tip for the two of us to have dinner. I would tell anyone I know that it's not worth the money. Nothing in there menus selection seemed to be worth anything near the prices they were charging. I typically don't do fine dinning. Every once and a while it's nice to spoil yourself. This isn't the place to do that. Maybe it's fine for folks whom don't feel it's a big deal to spent $100 per person at dinner. For those of us in the real world stay clear of here. You will be disappointed. The server was kind and polite and did her job quite well. I wouldn't have anything bad to say if the food would have been better. Half my steak was fat, the drink was quite to strong and there wasn't any lower costing options on the menu. For a starter my Father had the beet salad with goat cheese... it was delicious but the dressing used to dress the salad was sublime. My starter was total decadence. Foie Gras on Brioche. HEAVEN... it melted like butter in your mouth and was so rich. My Father had the Dover Sole which was expertly prepared. Juicy, flavorable and almost too good to eat. I had the rack of Colorado Lamb. I'm so proud they feature what is arguably the best lamb in the world, ( Sorry, New Zealand). There is a unique taste with local lamb, not to gamey but distinct. ************NOW FOR THE ULTIMATE STAR OF THE SHOW************** The 24k Candy Bar with Raspberry Sorbet. Hands down the best, richest, most decadent, sublime, guilt inducing dessert Ive ever had. A beautiful bar covered in rich chocolate ganache, topped with flecks of real 24k baby. Inside are multiple textures that melt on the tongue. On top is house made raspberry sorbet sitting in a beautiful chocolate cup. Top two desserts I have had in the world. I've been coming here through a lot of name changes and other changes for this restaurant, but I still like it better than any other steakhouse in Black Hawk. The new Monarch steakhouse is really nice, but a little bit pretentious and over the top. The timberline is just great food and great service with no pretense. Some of the servers have been there for over 10 years. Do yourself a favor and have the tomahawk chop. You don't even have to be a Kansas City Chiefs fan to like it! read more

Oh man...hubby and I really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it fell flat. We had reservations last Saturday night to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. I couldn't check in because I couldn't get a great signal inside the resturant even though I was logged in to their wifi. I want to stress that our waiter was awesome. He was very professional while being down to earth and very knowledgeable when it came to the menu and wine list. We thought that this was going to be the start of a great night, but that's where the greatness ended. We ordered Crab Bisque and French Onion soup for starters. Hubby started adding pepper to his bisque right away. The French Onion soup was good, but not outstanding. The bread basket was pretty tasty. Ciabatta, pretzel, and walnut cranberry were served in the basket. We ordered the Rib Eye Steak w/Bearnaise sauce and the Filet Mignon w/Chimichurri sauce. The were both cooked perfectly, but we soon realized why the steaks came with a choice of sauce - there was no flavor to them. A little salt and pepper goes along way and both of these steaks tasted like they had zero salt and pepper. I ended up adding salt and pepper not only to my Filet, but also to my sauce, the side of green beans, and the potatoes au gratin. Very disappointing. We ended the meal with the Creme Brulee. It was served on a type of cookie, which I thought was weird. The texture seemed right, but again, not very flavorful. We had high hopes for the Timberline Grill, but it seems the best place to get a steak dinner in Blackhawk is Farradday's at the Isle. read more

this is the restaurant at the Ameristar casino located at the bottom floor. I was told that reservations are only possible through on-line for large group. During the dinner hours, there were several groups of people waiting in line at the beginning of the meal.. and also when we were coming out. Well dressed hostess greet you at the front..also has seating area near the front.. very large and roomy restaurant. Due to large group we had, I may add that our service was kinda slow but for these type of restaurant, they should have plenty of extra servers helping each other. There seems to be lack of coordination, hence reason for 3 star. service was kinda slow but she brought everything out when asked. upon sitting down, basket of assorted fresh baked rolls/bread is offered.. . they were so yummy and had to request another basket. Its steak house and they seem to be doing very good with it. lot of difference choices of steaks, sea food and also BBQ ribs. Our table ordered bone in rib eye, fillet, baby back ribs, sea bass and such. My ribs were good for the price, sea bass was excellent according to my hot date.. and everyone devoured their steaks.. bone in rib eye looked quite appetizing. don't forget to order baked potatoes as your sides.. huge ones with toppings on the side in this lil cute dish. my mac n cheese was excellent also. overall, quality of food is good, quantity of food per price is very good. atmosphere is good. service needs improvement (more refined, not Denny's type) I would definitely go back and try other offerings. read more

The last time we went to Timberline it was great service and food. This time was ok. When we first walked up to the podium, we got no 'Good Evening' or 'Hello'. Kurt just looked at us. My husband said 'Reservation for Christina'. Kurt just said condescendingly "You're Christina?". I was standing right next to my husband and just raised my hand, like that's me. When he went to seat us our table wasn't fully cleaned yet. 2 glasses and need to be wiped. He stopped us, grabbed the glasses and huffed away, swearing and mumbling under his breath, he washed the table and sat us. He apologized and I said it's ok. He snapped "No it's not". I think Kurt needed a time out to take a few deep breaths. Our server was great. XXXX, she smiled and was attentive. My husband's Caesar salad came quickly and was delicious. But though it seemed that the restaurant was about half capacity, the rest of our food seemed to take quite awhile to arrive. When it arrived, my Prime Rib was cooked correctly (med - rare, which was what I ordered). The baked potato was huge! If you get it loaded the bacon pieces are thicker, just fyi. Not crunchy. My husband ordered a Filet Mignon (medium), when it first came it looked good until he cut into it. It was VERY rare. We had to wait to get the attention of XXXX, she took the steak back to have it fixed. You could tell that the grill may have been too hot to cook the outside and not the inside. We had hoped that a place like this would 'eat the cost' and throw a new steak on the grill. But instead it was the same steak, which came cooked correctly, however the outside was now so seared, it was like a hockey puck. The Strawberry cheesecake dessert was very good but not like cheesecake you know. It was more cake-like. And when you make a reservation, it asks if this is for a special occasion. I selected Birthday. In the comments too I stated it was my 35th birthday and that we'd like a booth away from the kitchen. We did get a  booth but no recognition that it was my birthday. I wasn't looking for anything free, I just thought the acknowledgement would be nice. First of all the service was great!! So that leads to the negative.. I ordered the surf and turf, a 7oz filet and what was suppose to be 7oz of lobster. The steak was great but the lobster was a "joke" the portion that arrived was about the size of a half dollar and was over cooked, seriously!! I asked the waitress if this was the $90 surf and turf that I had ordered and she said yes, that's how it is prepared... I find it hard to believe that they can charge top dollar for a less than average product. Over the years we have eaten here and it's always been good, always a bit pricey but all in all good. Fancy steakhouse in the mountains, where there aren't many choices where you can go. Timberline has a comfy feel, which makes you feel kind of extravagant after you've gambled your patootie off. Come here for an excellent steak and wine to relax and wind down. At least that's how I relax. Who needs a spa when you have a pound of meat and taters on your plate? Is that normal? I ordered a prime rib rare (typically, I order medium rare, but I was feeling risky). The waiter told me that he would try his best to get as rare as possible, which I thought was a bit odd. Cook my steak how I ordered it, damn it! But I was not disappointed when the steak was set upon my table. So bloody that it was almost staring right back at me, eyeballs and all. I know that to some people, this is gross, but it was seared just perfectly. Yum. I should have taken a picture, but I ate most of it when I was there, and the other portion I ate as a late night snack in bed (don't judge me). The service was great, observant, but not overbearing. That's my favorite kind of service. Leave me alone to eat my bloody steak, for goodness sake. I know we can't expect anything but even Red Robin would bring out some cheap ice cream and say congratulations. Idk overall very cold and disappointing especially when you pay $100 for a steak and salmon. Why do they even ask if you're celebrating something if they don't pay any mind to it? I found myself in Black Hawk a few days before xmas, and decided to have a steak. This was the nicest place in the nicest hotel in town, so obviously, my wife wanted to go here. Overall, the experience was excellent. The Highs: - Interesting menu front to back - lots of stuff I wouldn't expect to find in a nicer Denver restaurant, let alone a restaurant in Black Hawk - Very nice staff - Nice space that's removed from the casino (you forget you're in a casino, in fact) - Perfectly cooked and seasoned steaks - Great wine selection - Actual anchovies on my Caesar salad The Lows: - The house steak sauce wasn't quite what I wanted...I'm a big fan of A-1 on my steak, at least on the side. Didn't feel like I could ask for that after being told about the awesome house sauces. - Not as cheap as other dining options in Black Hawk - or even a steak from Outback - but not crazy expensive either. The quality of this place is every bit as high as you'd expect from a top-tier steakhouse like Shanahan's, Elway's, Del Frisco's, etc. I'd rate this place half a step behind Del Frisco's, but that's still a compliment. If you're in town to have some fun and live it up, don't hesitate to go. It's an enjoyable experience for sure. read more

They've been good in the past, but I had a truly awful experience with takeout last night. For a $100 bill, it was horribly lacking. The Caesar salad was 1/4 of what you get in the bowl in the restaurant, with no dressing and full price. It was a cup of Romain with Parmesan cheese on it. The $70 tarragon smoked rack of lamb was a flavorless 5-6 bites of meat. The Mexican chocolate mouse was ok, but had so many missing or substituted parts, it wasn't even remotely as advertised. After a disappointing experience with the host at the Firehouse kitchen (or something like that) we walked downstairs to find this gem. Greeted with a smile & sat promptly. Chad was our server & took great care of us. He informed me there was no vegetarian specific meal but the chef could put together a veggie plate for me! WIN! I got a huge plate of broccoli, green beans, mushrooms, sliced baked potato & tomato. With a side of au gratin. The cheesiest ever. Yummm. BF said his filet was better than Elways. & he loves his steaks. Highly recommend this place. Not your typical "casino" food. This is a nice establishment with an attentive waitstaff. Do yourself a favor & treat yo self :) UPDATE: 9/6/16 My mom, boyfriend and myself dined here again because of the fantastic meal we received last night. It completely slipped our mind to ask for Chad though! Bummer :( However, he was working, he came over to say hi & even remembered that I had asked for a vegetarian plate last time. He had already spoken with the kitchen! We were amazed. Chad is one of the BEST servers we've ever had. (I've worked in the industry for 12 years & we've dined out often over our lifetimes) The food was delicious! Filet mignon, top sirloin and of course my vegetarian plate was on point. We It's going to be a new tradition to come here when we have friends & family visit from out of town. (& we'll always ask for Chad!) read more
