We had the pleasure of dining at the Timberline patio last Friday night. The owner sat us and suggested some sugar free drinks for me as I told him I really wanted a cocktail but couldn't have any sugar. I went with a seltzer citrus infused gin. It was delish but I forgot to take a photo. We started with pork belly tacos and fried ravioli. Both were outstanding but those ravs and dipping marinara are making my mouth water even now! My husband had the chop, my youngest the salmon and my other son and I had the chicken. Wow, wow wow! That pounded out chicken was juicy on the inside while the crust was crispy and not at all greasy. The mash was handmade and that Texas gravy? Your Memaw would be speechless! It was hands down the best white gravy I've ever had. My husband gave me a bite of his chop and it was sinfully delish! My son with the salmon barely spoke during the meal as he thoroughly enjoyed his dish. To top off this wonderful dining experience, the owner gave my husband and I a nice bottle of local wine and bought my son's drinks when we informed him that our youngest son was leaving for the Army that Sunday. He spoke to my other son in great length about culinary arts and truly made us feel at home. Please, if you are in the area do yourself a favor and stop into this gem of a restaurant. When you pull up and look at the building, it's a bit of a head-scratcher. It's very non-de script, with a couple apartments as part of it. The small restaurant is upstairs, and Larry, the owner, is as nice as can be. Larry is hard to miss -- he's the 7' tall guy in the room. :-) I went for prime rib night and both the food and drinks were great. Absolute treat coming here. We went to another place and their restaurant side was closed. So we were led here and we are SO GLAD!! The owner (Larry) was amazing and so kind to chat with. It was a slower night due to local Halloween parties, so we felt fortunate to meet and learn more about him. Small world! We got the coconut shrimp, generous salad, and amazing fried chicken. They have some Canadian based menu items so we knew it would be great. And it didn't disappoint! Larry also wasn't afraid to share some recipe tips with us of some favorites. Timberline is a lot of things. On weekdays, they serve terrific small bites in the friendly Squirrel bar and the dog-friendly patio. On weekends you can get locally-sourced full dinners like prime rib, chicken-fried chicken, and wild-caught salmon. Veggie options too, and a full bar. Sunday night is the Sunday supper club, where you can pre-order dinner for the whole family. It's comfort food, cooked with care, and in generous portions. Co-owner Larry is a retired nurse and is insistant on having a clean, healthy, welcoming restaurant and dining area. Scott runs a mean and clean kitchen. Dinners and apps are cooked to order, so you might have to wait a few minutes for your meal, but it's worth it every time. Plan on having enough for leftovers. read more

I'm happy for the owner's retirement but sad that we're losing one of the best restaurants in town. Every entree is delicious and made with quality ingredients and care. As my partner says, "that Larry can cook his ass off"! The curry and chicken fried chicken are two favs. Don't share an entree. I was traveling up from LA and love this part of CA. It takes you straight up to Avenue of The Giants. I stayed in a place down the street which was pretty nice. However, I was shocked by my food. It was really delicious. The salad and dressing were fresh (no wilted greens or bland dressing). The best part was the fish and chips. They were really delicious! I grew up in the PNW and it has the best fish and chips, hands down. However, this place was right in line with their freshness and it was prepared with the perfect amount of crunch. Had the privilege of eating a meal from Timberline. This is a magical garden delight being run by Larry. BEAUTIFUL outside area!! Wonderful meal of mouth watering Cod - "fish & chips"..and oh my goodness...the slice of Prime Rib for my dog smelled like heaven and got my dog eating again!!!! I came here for my Birthday with about 9 friends. We had made a reservation and it was not busy on A Friday night in June. The owner (fun fact - he is 7' tall!!) takes great pride in his restaurant, and it shows. He wants his drinks and his food to be the best. We ordered the deep fried ravioli (MOLTON HOT!) and we all ordered cocktails...which were HUGE! I had read the reviews about the chicken fried chicken and that it was enormous (all the portions here are hefty), and I decided to split it with my hubby - we struggled to finish it. It was really good and the green beans that came with it were a surprise too. I tried someone's meatloaf, very good, and one of my favorites at the table were someone's sweet potatoes with ginger (stealing that recipe). No one got the pork chop - which I would like to have tried The owner brought out a lemon curd dessert for my birthday that was super tart and a nice finish to the meal. Well what can I say the owner and his son were quite nice however the food was mediocre . I had the chicken fried chicken and my partner had the pork chops . The mash potatoes and gravy were absolutely my favorite. The chicken fried chicken was over fried dry and quite really unedable . The pork chops were dry and well blah . The broccoli was good . If I would eat here again I'd have the broccoli and mash potatoes with gravy . But I would it come here again unless that what I wanted . I did want the prime Rib However they were sold out was I lucky or unlucky ? Four of us ate dinner here while visiting Guerneville the last weekend in July'. Our food was infected with e coli all four of us were sickened by our meals. Hospitalized. Attempts to communicate this were rebuffed and ignored. Complaints are being filed to the health department. Eating here caused 30,000 in medical bills for four people, who were severely sickened with symptoms including diarrheaa vomiting, stomach pains, body aches. We all required stay in hospital. Due to those symptomsa The "Owner, waiter dishwasher" hovered over our tables during the meal, sitting down as if he were an invited guest. He kept begging us for a positive yelp review. We must admit he was charming at first,. But when he did not get our signal that we we wanted to talk amongst ourselves he was a bit of a nuisance. A friend and I tried Timberline for dinner last weekend and we're so glad we did. Larry greeted us at the door and told us that all of the food was made with local ingredients, fresh that day. Really enjoyed this place! We worked directly with one of the owners/managers for a big group birthday dinner of about 25 people and they were more than accommodating. They have a really cute back patio with market lights and picnic tables which we had all to ourselves. The service was extremely hospitable and they made us feel like family. Larry and Scott catered my sister's surprise 50th birthday party for 14 people and let me tell you, what an incredible and memorable dinner!!! We are still talking about this food a week later. The experience planning the dinner was smooth. I truly appreciated Larry and Scott's input on which dishes would compliment each other and which dishes they do not recommend, unless served right away . Here was our menu below. My family and I went here after we spent 6 hours canoeing on the river. To say we were tired and hungry is an understatement. We pulled up to Timberline, it was easy to find parking. Once inside (which is actually outside due to covid) we were greeted by a really kind and friendly person who helped us with our order. Very charming place, with a nice home cooked meal. Food hit the spot. I got the chicken parm, and my mom and partner got the fish and chips. Her mom got the chicken fried chicken. Will def come back here the next time we are in town. A low key gem of Russian River. Completely non-pretentious with food that will food that will surprise you in the best way. Half the price of a place like Boon with double the portion size. We ate here Sunday night when we were in town. We ate downstairs in the rustic bar although the full main restaurant upstairs menu was also available. In the bar, they serve small plates along with a full bar of course. They've also turned a parking lot into a cute little garden with seating. Bring a jacket at night. I had the caprese salad which was made with thick slices of heirloom tomatoes. It was so good I kept on eating it as dessert long after I was full because I just could not leave bite of those exquisite tomatoes. I suppose that's a summer only thing. Maybe we will get lucky and they will make put up some relish with those tomatoes. we also had the street corn which was equal delicious and I didn't want it with chips but they nicely made me some crudites to go with it. I have the salmon and the mashed potatoes and the salmon was very well cooked and tasted good I have to say the mashed potatoes were incredibly smooth and decadent. I think about them in my dreams. i'm not even supposed to eat that stuff anymore but I just couldn't help myself. Also the bartender Rosemary made me the best virgin bloody Mary of my entire life when I challenged her. I don't usually have virgin drinks but I have been on a cleanse so I didn't want vodka. It was so incredibly good. Real horseradish. I drink two. The host Larry is one of those people who's so kind and friendly that you feel that his life would not be complete if you didn't have a good meal. Made reservations here to have dinner on NYE. We booked through Opentable, which I would NOT recommend, as the restaurant seems to have some issues with that system. They couldn't find our reservation when we first arrived, and when I told the hostess that we had booked online, she rolled her eyes and sighed like it was a common problem they had been having with the site. However, she said she would make sure to find us a table, but that we might have to be a little patient as they were packed on this evening. In the next room, they were also hosting a drag queen show, which made everything even more hectic. However, within a matter of 5 minutes, she was able to get us seated at a prime window spot. Our dinner service started off a little slow as there were only a few waiters serving a bunch of tables, and the staff kept apologizing to us for the delay. We were fine with the wait because of how they handled it - I like when people acknowledge the delay and do something to make up for it. We got a free apple pie a la mode and a cup of coffee on the house at the end of our meal, which was great. For the rest of our meal, we started off by ordering the coconut prawns and for our entrees, I ordered the Chicken Fried Chicken while the bf got the Prime Rib, one of the specials of the night. This place gives you big servings - you definitely get your money's worth here. The steak was nice and grisly, and full of flavor. The Chicken Fried Chicken was perfectly fried - not too greasy, and the gravy that paired up with it was delicious. The only point of complaint I had was that the coconut prawns was advertised as coming out with 5 pieces, and we only got 4. This was a minor detail, and did not take away from the overall experience of the meal. I would definitely come back to Timberline next time I'm in the area. read more

You have to try to the chicken fried chicken. I came back to Timberline for a second night in a row to enjoy the chicken fried chicken once more... The next morning we came back with a large group of bicyclists and the chef got up especially early for us at 5 a.m to cook us breakfast. I love this place and will keep coming back every time I'm in Guerneville. 16 beers on tap, plenty of good options for wine and very reasonable prices. We had the pleasure to be here for Thanksgiving. There was an all-you-can-eat "turkey + the trimmings" option or the prime rib. Because the restaurant's ad adopts a modest tone, my expectatIons were low... and I was startled by how adeptly made the food was. Their handling of veggie sides (the crisp-tender green beans, roasted brussel sprout, sublime sweet potatoes) was masterful, and their meats succulent & well seasoned. Ambiance (that night, at least) seemed to be a nice mix of visitors with a healthy sprinkling of locals. Everyone seemed relaxed, and we were soon chatting with neighboring tables. This was a really cool, comfortable place to eat a lot of well-made food. The moment you walk upstairs to the main dining area, you start to think, "what is the restaurant going to make me experience?" Right off the bat, we were greeted by Christine who confirmed our reservation and seated us in a great spot in the restaurant. Friendly and inviting, good start. Our server, Dana, was knowledgeable of the menu and offered great entree suggestions. We took advantage of their specials, prime rib, pork chops, just to name a few entree specials. Served with either Polenta or Mash Potatoes and off course, sauteed green beans. Comfort food, perfect, right in my wheelhouse. We enjoyed the entrees, well seasoned, temperature, fresh, a welcome surprise. Local ingredients infused, why not? Your in wine country, Sonoma. This restaurant has potential staying power if they continue to maintain attentive service, create thoughtful and simple menu, and keep a great stump town vibe for new and returning customers.
