I'd been keeping an eye on the reviews on All Trails (one of the very few features I actually like on that app, but that's a story for another day) and knew several weeks in advance that snow on the mountain was a distinct possibility. When I made eye contact with Humphreys two days before summiting and literally saw tons of snow from about 60 miles away - along with very recent reviews warning about it - I knew I had to make a pit stop beforehand. It would PROBABLY be an exaggeration to say Peace Surplus saved my life, but without it (and its supplies), I don't think I get to the top of Humphreys Peak, or even close. I stopped by last Sunday, the day before my hike, knowing that I needed to get some type of traction on my hindpaws. I considered getting poles (which I've been mulling for years - we're getting close there), but the spikes for the hiking sneakers seemed paramount. I located them very easily right off to the side of the shoe section. I honestly don't know if $62 for these is insane or not, but they made the difference the following day so I can't sit here and say they aren't worth it. An absolute gamechanger, and something I can use going forward in less dramatic adventures if there's icy/snowy conditions afoot. Beyond my primary purchase, I was very intrigued by the little food/grocery store section off to the side by the entrance. It has a lot of hiking snacks that can usually be procured easily at a gas station (cough cough Clif Bar cough cough), but also the ones that are a bit harder to find without Amazon's help, like the Honey Stinger waffle, which for sure came in handy the following morning. There's a definite emphasis on overnight camping/thru-hiking, so there were quite a few freeze-dried dinners, etc. as well. It was an impressive selection. Everyone here was super friendly and nice. The people at the register immediately looked around for another potential customer to ring up the minute they were done with their prior patron, and several times I could overhear presumably managers spitballing how to allocate their staff based on where the immediate needs were. While I was in there, a few employees were outside handling a holiday sale, I believe, so I imagine it gets a little tougher to gameplan when literally some of your people aren't even in the store. No wasted energy at this place. I don't feel like I did more than skim the surface of what this store offered, but they had what I wanted and needed in the moment, and for sure they get some credit for my successful Humphreys ascent. Give Peace a chance.

It's embedded within a 55+ living community so it is quiet and very peaceful. We went on a Monday, and they had a BOGO special going on, so I got to join my boyfriend for free! The course was well maintained, but it is a NARROW course with houses lining each side so it's some pressure to execute some NICE swings. There are little arrows pointing you to the next holes as you do have to drive in the community a title bit, but the houses were so sweet that I didn't mind. Lots of hills and water hazards to make the course fun! We can't wait to come again.

Greens were in excellent shape, the fairways were nice and firm and balls were not difficult to find. The bad - if you're used to a new, shiny club featuring stainless steel open areas and shiny tile FAC is not it. The buildings were built in the 70s and despite some remodeling at the West club both clubs are dated and somewhat dreary. At times it seems they are not even trying to (shower heads in the east club are mismatched, come on), tile is dingy, and both clubs give a worn out vibe. Some of the gym equipment has seen better days, esp at the east. The good - the staff is very friendly, their classes are varied and a lot of fun, both clubs have both a steam room and sauna plus a jacuzzi, and they always seem to have an ample supply of clean towels. I was just robbed at the Sedona Golf Resort, not by a random bandit but by the resort itself…read more Planned a golf trip here, staying at the resort only to find upon my arrival that the coutse has severe damage, including the greens that makes it almost unplayable. Have a 6:45am teetime, but can not use the practice facility to warm up because they won't be done mowing until after 7am. Inside the proshop asked about these and Kenny had about the worst attitude I've ever seen. Basically told me that if I don't like it, don't play. To make it "right" they give you a $20 credit, not apply to the cost of golf but towards a purchase. Bright side is that Scott was very helpful and engaging. Jeremy Hayman(GM), you have to do a much better job with course management, staff management, and customer service. I've essentially wasted a 3 day golf trip on a poorly maintain and managed course that's currently only slightly better than a muni course. My recommendation it to avoid Sedona Golf Resort until these issues are fixed, and instead play Oak Creek County Club, which is only a mile away and in amazing condition.
