I absolutely love this restaurant. I love everything about it and had nothing bad to say about it. Upon entering the parking lot the outside really does look authentic rustic. I believe that's because it is. Has a very used, off the beaten path feel to it. Inside is fantastic. Scenes of the coal mines way back when. Some would think it's corny I believe it to be a great dining experience. As long as the food is good which it was. I ordered the big tbone steak and veggies. Steak was great! Very tender and juicy. Cooked perfectly. Veggies were crisp. No complaints. Waitstaff was very friendly. It is a bit dark in the restaurant but again, coal mine theme. I loved it! Overall very happy with this restaurant. This is a local mainstay and is highly over-rated. They are known for their steaks, (which are usually pretty good), but everything else is crap. The fried mushrooms have so much breading and are so greasy they make your stomach knot up and try to reject them. I cannot think of a single good thing I have eaten there besides the steaks. And then the atmosphere...creepy. Nasty dead animals everywhere. They have been there for decades and are moth eaten, dust covered and give the place the feeling of eating in a mortuary. This place needs an updating ASAP. Forget the stupid gimmicks and offer some great food. And before I forget; the background music should be in the background, not drown out any conversation you may wish to have. "We cut the finest meats your nuggets can buy!" Any restaurant with a slogan like that gets 5 stars in my book. Along that theme, the name perfectly describes the decor. There is natural wood everywhere you turn. And the miners siting around are equals to those in a ride at Disney World. To be honest, my initial reaction upon entering the building is that I was in a Haunted House. The hag at the player piano in the lobby put me over the top. As we were led by our hostess to our table, the Haunted House feel doubled. The center of the room was practically pitch black and had a gold miner scene surrounded by fake pine trees. Each booth was nicely secluded and was lit by a fake kerosene lantern above the table with a light bulb plugged in the bottom. Enough of the atmosphere. Now onto the food. The place is apparently known for its steaks (which are in the $20-$40 range) , but I deviated from the norm and made a selection from the Specials menu: BBQ Chicken with a salad, bread, and choice of baked potato, veggies, lima beans, or fries...all for $14.95. My dining partner had The Miner - ground beef steak smothered in mushrooms and onions with a choice of the same sides...also $14.95. Our salads were actually pretty awesome. The croutons tasted like they were made fresh that day. It also included green peas and a red beet slice (neither of which I would normally eat on a salad) but slathered in their raspberry vinaigrette dressing tasted a little bit like heaven. Next for the drinks. I don't know much about the blue laws in Utah or in the different counties, so I may sound ignorant here, but our adult beverages had to be served and paid for separately from our food. Not a big deal, but just something to be aware of. They had a handful of local beers on tap that were served in a mug so cold, it caused ice chips to form on the top of the beer. The decor is pretty funky, in a 50's sort of way, but don't let that dissuade you - this is among the top 5 beef houses I've ever been in (including Kansas City, Omaha, Austin, Topeka, LA, SF, and Denver). Growing up in Davis County this place was always the go to place for special occasions. Moved away from the area and totally forgot about this place. I am a big prime rib fan and my kids have also learned to love it. Don't have it often but when we do we have been going to Market Street or Texas Roadhouse. Save your money and drive about 40 mins and its worth it. This place is better than i remember. Nice big cut of prime rib and a baked potato for less than $30. Bargain. Had the fried mushrooms and WOW! The salad was great and fresh and the service was outstanding. If you are looking for a fun place to take your family or date, its a bit of a drive but the atmosphere and quality of food is worth the drive. They take reservations for 8 people and up, if going on a weekend would suggest reservations, My son and I went on a Saturday night around 6:30 and had a 20 min wait. Check this place out. We ate at Timbermine after multiple recommendations from locals while in Utah for our honeymoon and were pretty disappointed. We both ordered different steaks and, while they were cooked correctly, they had no real seasoning or anything special to them. I also would've liked more options for my sides rather than an itty bitty baked potato (with only butter and sour cream) or veggies. We ordered wine and had a very helpful bartender. The other staff was just there to do a job, but not really fantastic with their service. I guess it's just been around for so long that older people love it. I have no idea. Got in town and was looking for a steal lace and this came up. We stopped in and was surprised by the decor, very interesting. I had the prime rib and son has the filet mignon but very tasty. We also had half order of mushrooms and cheese sticks, son devoured the cheese, I ate most of the shrooms, way to much food. 3.5 stars. I came here for a huge banquet before a research conference at Weber State. There was ANOTHER huge banquet taking place across the hall, so this place is big, which is good if you're trying to hold a large event. The meal included salad with ranch (simple, not impressive Denny's style salad...mine didn't even have any croutons), a roll, water or punch, a choice of beef, fish, or veggie plate, and dessert. I chose the halibut and it was very moist and flavorful and came with a juicy slice of lemon and a delicious tartar-ish sauce. The side was a perfectly tender baked potato with sour cream and chives, yum! The steak looked WAY undercooked (I like my meat rare, but I don't want it to still be "Moo"ing when I get it), and a girl at my table was assured she would get her bloody steak re-heated...and then the server never came back so she went hungry. Sad. The cocktails were pretty reasonably priced, 3.50 for a whiskey sour...but there was also barely even a shot of whiskey and it wasn't even good whiskey. My second drink was a Coors light, which was both cheaper and more buzz-worthy (in terms of feeling tipsy, obvi). The atmosphere is casual. The server was efficient, friendly and prompt. The food came out timely and warm. The salad was ok. A bit sparse but I'm finding that to be true at a lot of steak places. A salad, for me, even a small one, helps fluff my tastebuds for the main event...the meat... Oh well. The price was okay too. Wow! We took our daughter here for her 15th birthday and I asked the server to help me with some surprises. She was super helpful and her attentiveness level was perfect. (Someone had clicked a wrong button while submitting a review) We came in Monday night (had to make a reservation since there were 9 of us) and had a terrific birthday dinner. Stakes are superb! Housewines are good. Service is pleasant and quick. The interior design is funny, special and neat - certainly worth walking around to look at hundreds of details. Pricewise I was prepared for more expense, but they have spared it for me. If you order drinks (I mean spirits/wines) be prepared to open a tab in the bar, since drinks are served by a separate waitress. A little bit unusual for us newenglanders but not a problem. The decor is a total mind-trip and worth the drive some Salt Lake alone, but the tried and true menu befit with classic steak house fare and proprietary nuances will make you want to come back. The staff is attentive and polite and when we lost track of time only to realize we were the last people in the building they didn't make a fuss. The beer is ice cold and the drinks (albeit Utah liquor laws) aren't bad.
