Well... Hate to give a bad review because I do understand the difficulty in running a restaurant however this place just fails on so many levels and the food wasn't even one of them! Was kind of excited to try this place because food pics looked great and most reviews were good... However, let me detail my experience. Arrived at approximately 10:45 am for breakfast... Was seated promptly in a comfortable booth... The first thing you notice is the noise level. Place had a couple of large groups so I get that can make a difference but really an investment in some baffles or other sound diffusion would go a long way. Coffee arrived quickly and we placed our orders... Which DID NOT ARRIVE UNTIL 11:25... I do not understand how some eggs and pancakes can take 40 minutes to make it to the table. Portion size was good but everything was bland. Potatoes overcooked and had an odd taste... Bacon was burnt... Oh and I forgot to mention the coffee... I think they must have just waved a coffee been over some warm water because it was basically tasteless. Try this place if you must but we will definitely not be returning. read more

Was in the area for a Sunday drive and found this place after turning to yelp for a breaky suggestion. We were told to find our own seat right away- 1/2 star, by a very unhappy server and were brought not so great coffee right away. Order was taken pretty quick by earlier mentioned unhappy server then things started going downhill pretty quick. As I'm writing this review, it's been over 1/2 an hour since we ordered. The coffee lady has been by only once and there's no one around to ask about the status of our order. Food finally came and they got my order wrong so back it went. *sigh* It quickly came back corrected and looked pretty good however my now hangry mood would not allow me to fully enjoy my breaky. Portions were generous and food was ok...I'll give 1 star for that. Soooo, 1 1/2 total stars, I would not recommend and will not be returning. read more

Let's start with the good- Menu offers a variety of standard diner fare. Water refills a plenty. Coffee refills are included. The decor is very diner-esque with lots of booths (TIP- select a booth because the noise carries and if sitting at a regular table yyou will become deaf). However- Disorganized - period - . For a diner that has been in business as long as it has there is no reason to a) have underage children working tables - bringing water- cutlery - not just busing . b) to have to wait for food over 30 minutes and then be told that it takes longer to cook the item?! c) dirty untensils. d) Never really sure who our waiter was - no introduction and no return for "how was meal check-in?, nor even an explanation why the VERY long delay for food- which most restaurants are well aware when they are behind or delayed. We had at least 5 different people come by the booth throughout being seated till departure - so unsure if each person "specializes" or everyone covers everyone - or just chaos. Final note - one of the staff was wearing the Covid-19 mask under the nose - what is the point of that? We were a 3 person party - 2 people ordered eggs with smoked meat or bacon, but the LARGE delay turned out to be the liver and onions (which unfortunately the potatoes and mixed vegetables drawfed the tasty liver - only 1 small piece) - inadequate size for the price). So while the food for the most part was decent - the chaotic service and delay in food service prevents a better score. For a restaurant with a LONG history - perhaps it's glory is in the past, because we will not be returning. Lastly - a soon to be common rant. When paying with the new swipe card machines - the TIP options are ridiculous. I would not be offering a 24% TIP on any menu item (especially on top of the taxes that are added BEFORE TIP - so that customers are tipping on the fully taxed meal). Restaurants that use the tip menu are cheating their customers .Be smart people use the fixed dollar amount. read more

Went for breakfast today and was so disappointed. Home fries were served cold then after I said they were cold were reheated and came back burnt and dried out. Bacon was dried out and cold as well. Have been there before on the weekend and had a good experience, today was very poor as well as the attitude of the server. I rarely give bad reviews to places like this but this place failed us on so many levels... In fact, as soon as we walked in they said they're closing in 30 minutes. It wasn't true because it was only 9pm and the place closes at 10pm on a Saturday. As well, when they did kick us out there were a few other people who had been there longer than us and didn't get kicked out! I suspect the lady serving us was in a terrible mood. Food wise it was also terrible. We got the poutine fries and it was the worst poutine I ever had. It was made with a bag of frozen low cost fries and a can of gravy topped with a couple of cheese curds if you could call them that. We were scared to eat this so called poutine. I have been here several times and I have tried different options for breakfast and lunch, and I have to say their food is just amazing. Their burgers and fish and chips are just unbelievable. The staff is really attentive and really professional, they welcome you warmly and make you feel comfortable. Came here on a Sunday around 1pm and it wasn't too busy so we got seats right away. I ordered the grand slam which has 3 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 pancakes and home fries. The good: The home fries were the highlight for me, they were fried, well portioned and yummy. The service was friendly and they always came to check on us and refilled our coffees regularly. The bad: I was sitting in the long booth by the windows and I guess the cushions are really worn down because when I sat down I sunk in and it was an awkward angle for me to eat when the food came. The sausage was just a tad too fatty for me and the pancakes kinda came apart when I poured syrup on them. The coffee was also a little too watered down for my taste. I have been anxiously waiting to review this Diner for the longest time. I now been here several times for brekkie and find the food very consistent and delicious. The home fries are deep fried and crunchy. Add some fried onions on top and BAM! Pure breakfast bliss! There is plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside. I hear the diner gets really busy during prime time during the week and on weekends. I usually show up around 930 to 10 and always get my regular booth. The have the space for big groups too. Probably a bit more inclined to give this place a 3.5, but hey, their service was friendly so I'll classify it as a 4 :p My boyfriend said he used to always come here with his dad when he was younger, so we decided to go for brunch the other weekend. Very traditional looking diner, felt a bit like I was transported back in time haha. Very similar to Fran's Restaurant in Toronto for those of you who have been there. The place is almost divided into two stores (apparently they bought out the store next to them at some point and expanded). In my opinion, I think some of the furniture is in need of being revamped, which can be done while still maintaining the classic diner look. There are booths available for bigger groups, but we just got a regular two-seater. Started with coffee and tea (coffee is only $2 and you can get as many free refills as you'd like!). We decided to split a french connection - 3 eggs, French toast, bacon, sausage, and home fries for $13. It was plenty of food foe us to share. He also ordered a chocolate milkshake (as he claims they're the best he's ever had), which I only tried a sip or two of, but from what I could tell, was awesome! Solid breakfast. Please keep in mind this is a diner....and it is true to that, which is what gives it the charm it has. The breakfast is all wonderful but I recommend the eggs benedict. This place serves three eggs with their bene instead of the normal two. The potatoes are always nice and crispy. The coffee is never bitter. Do not be shy to talk to your waitress as she is passing you. This place gets busy and if you see her with a coffee pot don't be afraid to ask for a top off. We keep going back and have yet to find a place that beats it. Be warned....the bathrooms are very, very cold! read more

My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for over 30 years! The food is phenomenal, the wait staff is superior, and the owners are always extremely friendly and welcoming. I've seen Peter and Sandra's kids grow from little teeny guys to adults. My children have been going since they were babies, and now that they're adults, they go to celebrate their special occasions or just for brunch, with their friends. I went in there with a friend for breakfast waited 10 minutes for a table, and that's after me signalling for a server. Got a table waited 20 minutes for coffees, and then waited over an hour for a food. The server then blamed us for not being ready to order, and then said an order of 50 went in prior. Another server said the initial server said it was going to be a long wait. Yes. Because I would love to spend 90 minutes waiting for coffee and scrambled eggs. I complained to management, and in polite terms pretty much told me and my friend to fuck off. The only way to get service there, is if you've been going there for 50 years and you know the staff otherwise they would not give a care about serving you. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE!!! I decided to drop by alone for an early weekend breakfast. My waitress was slightly grouchy, but everyone has their off days so I didn't take much note of it. Besides, the other servers were quite friendly and frequently stopped by to check up on me. Their food is quite alright. I had the bacon and eggs, served with home fries and toast. The bacon and eggs were cooked to perfection (with the eggs cooked to your liking). However, the home fries were slightly tough and seemed a little overcooked. All in all, it was a good breakfast with fair portions. The 50s mom and pop style decorations adds a nice ambiance, though slightly dirty here and there. But that spot has been at that area for the past 60 years, that is saying something. The first thing you'll notice when you walk in is the bright colour of the booths and chairs. The walls are full of posters, pictures, memorabilia from an simpler times. If you go often, you can see that the same faces occupying the same seats at the bar, watching TV, bantering with each other, and having a good beer. It really sets the tone perfectly for a place where you can relax and drink in the atmosphere. The waitress or waiter will greet you and when its not busy, sit where you like, pick a booth or table and start ordering. The menu is a pretty standard diner menu, dotted with classics like breakfast items, burgers, and tons of sandwiches. But since the owners are Greek, the souvlakis are great. If you are into fish and chips, this place is the place to go north of Toronto, huge halibut on top of crispy frenched fries and side of oil and vinaiger coleslaw. These item will satisfy your desire at anytime of the day (not 24hr though :( ). But doesn't matter what you order, the portions are huge and they are delicious. Many of their ingredients are homemade and you can taste it on the first bite. Dare I say one of the best burgers I had next to the burger priest. The waiting staffs are friendly and fun. You can tell them about your day or just vent, you'll find them attentive and willing to listen. If you go there often, chat up one of the regulars, they have many interesting stories to share as they been around this area for ages. As you can see, a diner is quite different from looking at other types of restaurant. Each one has their quarks and differences. But these features are what make them fun and interesting and amazing gems in any neighborhood. read more

Excellent greasy spoon joint for Sunday morning breakfast. They've got a good selection of egg, pancake and French toast combos. They make their burgers from scratch so I decided to try the smothered burger, topped with caramelized onions and cheese, for $8. You have to get a side of fries separately. The rest of my friends ordered breakfast items so I just ate their home fries, which are crispy and a very generous serving. Anti-Union. Owner had no customers and a large empty parking lot that he had roped off to prevent striking teachers from parking in it. Even refused to permit a disabled teacher from parking there. He was very belligerent and antagonistic, uttering threats of calling the police. Not a very smart attitude. Every week there are HUNDREDS of teachers picketing right in front of his restaurant. Many of them work in the neighbourhood every day. Today, everyone crossed the street to buy their coffee and food. Not that I would have eaten there. I got food poisoning there a few years ago. The city health inspector said that she had never seen a restaurant that bad. read more

Fries are SO bad, and the gravy is really weak, but thank goodness the burger is so good, or it would be 1 star or less :) Had a decent, large toasted western and another solid burger - the $8 "Canadian burger", but recommend just sticking with the cheeseburger, because despite being a thick slice the peameal bacon was flavourless and will be skipped next time. Another pet peeve is that sauteed onions cost an extra $1.50 which is kinda chintzy on a regular base cheeseburger that's already $6 alone with no sides. SO, I'll probably be back for a cheeseburger and onion rings, but I will pout about not being able to pair it with fries & gravy due to their crappy fries, and my pricey fried onions, despite enjoying the burger. You'd be surprised! That a little dingy diner like this could serve up such a tasty eggs Benedict! Top notch. The egg has been perfectly cooked everything I've ordered it! 5 stars for the quality Benedict and for its value. Other than that good breakfast food basics at very fair price and super efficient service. My only complaints are that their hash brown is plain and unimpressive - just deep fried potatoes (no seasoning or fried onions, green peppers etc), and that their coffee is diluted like Tim Horton's. This is quite possibly the worst service I've ever received at a diner. We walked in, we weren't greeted after about 5 minutes of waiting we had to get up and get our own menus. After waiting about 10 minutes, in which many times the server passed us and helped the tables around us, we decided to get up and ask if we could get some service. In doing so we were met with a very rude, I'm very busy, to which we responded we understand however you were cleaning the tables near us to which she began to raise her voice and say when? I was not cleaning any tables and proceeded to walk away. I WOULD GIVE THIS PLACE A 0 FOR SERVICE! The place is rather old, given it's reputation, they did some renovation and you can definitely see it. We've been here twice in the past couple of months and we had ok service to was that even service?! OMG jeez I can't even explain it properly, it's like I had to do the service for the server. No one greeted us at the door and this was Canada Day for flippin sakes. So we found ourselves a seat, the place was almost dead, after like 5 minutes of us staring at the walls the server finally made her way to our table. She was an older lady, that didn't even bother to hide how annoyed she was by being there. God forbid a smile was to be given. No hello's, no enjoy your food or how may I help you, here you go's or thank you's. We asked for water, it came after our food and you could imagine that was a wait. She pretty much ignored us the whole time we were there and we just got up and got our own stuff from the counter, such as ketchup, hot sauce, etc. When we were leaving, my boyfriend was still nice enough to leave her a tip, but she honestly didn't deserve it. If it was ever based on service, I would never come back here. This place should honestly get their act together with their staff, because their seriously hindering their food value with this shitty service. THE FOOD IS A 3 STAR The first time we came here, I got a burger and my boyfriend got the open sandwich. It was so basic and ok. Like nothing was that great, nor was it the worse thing you ate. Worst diner ever, waited for 40 minutes and realized that they haven't even started making our food. Some of the customers who got there after us had already started eating. We asked the waiter/ waitresses politely to follow up on our order for two eggs bunnies through out, we get waitresses avoiding us, telling us "you ll get it when it's ready" or "you came at a busy time".
