Timorian restaurant has given us the best service for the past 3 days we have been here in D.C. It had delicious traditional afghan food you can't find anywhere and if you are looking to open your horizon to new food on your palette and trying afghan food then this is the place to come. The ambiance is really nice and has a nice vibe. And the service and hospitality is immaculate. For dessert you should try their traditional ice cream and definitely visit if you're ever in DC!

Got a combo of chicken kabob and shami kabob along with a side of their borani banjan/eggplant dish. The eggplant was honestly one of my favorite things- it's a must get in my opinion. Homey dish with incredible flavors! Their naan is fresh and pairs well with it. The chicken was good, but I've had better honestly. The shami was a little disappointing as I expected more flavor and it was slightly dry, but good. Their rice was so tasty and I loved the sweetness coming from the carrots an raisins. Of course, the sheeryakh was great- quite a big portion for one person, but I loved the texture. It tastes very similar to the Indian/South Asian/Pakistani ice cream, "Kulfi." CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK: Service needs improvement. The whole time I was there I had to keep looking for waiters to make eye contact with to ask for menu, water, paying, etc. It took about 10 min or more for me to have to call a busy waiter over just to look at the menu- no one came over on their own. Things just took time for a Saturday night- plus they were hosting an event on top of this. Needless to say, I've never had service like this, but the vibe and food made me be not as harsh. Despite the service, this place is a must try for authentic Afghan cuisine. Can't wait to try more of their menu (and the borani banjan again) in the future!

Unfortunately, this restaurant didn't live up to my expectations…read more When we arrived the dining room felt very humid and sticky which made it uncomfortable to sit and eat. We were also a party of five but were only given one menu to share so not very convenient. I ordered the Chicken & Shami Kabob and it came with a choice of white or brown rice, one side, and naan. The meal looked nothing like the photo on the restaurant's website. The portion was overwhelmingly rice with very little meat. None of the garnishes shown in the picture were included on the rice. For $24 I expected a much better presentation and a more balanced portion. Oh and the meat was kind of dry. Parts of our order were missing, some dishes that came out were incorrect. The experience felt disorganized and the food didn't justify the price.

All I can say is the food is way better than I remember it. We ordered one of the kebob combos each time and have decided the lamb chops and chicken are the best. Their sheek kabob is good still, but these are just better. Our next order is going to be a full order of the lamb chops and a combo of bone-in and boneless chicken! Also of note are their desserts which are really outstanding. Our favorites so far is the ras malai {cheese balls in a creamy sauce} and the rice pudding. I am forgetting to mention the best part: their bread. It is more flavorful and softer than a lot of the breads we get from other places. Plus if it is left over, it holds well if you leave it in foil with no plastic wrap or refrigeration. The spinach and the chick pea sides are both top quality. They really seem to have stepped up their food and it was good to begin with. Nice folk too.

Conveniently sat myself down, self-serve plates n cups, self-serve food, pleasant owner, pleasant interior w lots of light, lots of room. Green n black tea, kheer dessert and naan included. Includes lamb. ALL of the dishes were good but standouts are the veggie curries (would be satisfied w rice n veg), spinach aloo palak and butter chicken.

We came, we tried, we won't be back. A friend purchased a Groupon deal to experience this…read morerestaurant, we could have chose anywhere else but we wanted to give this place a try. Arrived at 11:35am on a weekend. Entered, place was empty, we thought it would be a quick and attentive service. Not the case. It all so happens to be just one server and she was assisting in the back preparing take out/pick up orders. We sat at least 12-15 mins before she came to acknowledge us. We immediately let her know we had the Groupon to use. She let us know that it was a buffet style service and pointed us in that direction to take a look. We also browsed the menu but for the very little amount we eat, we thought it was best to try the buffet out which really only had 5 items. She allowed us that option even knowing we had the Groupon. We had to wave her down for water. She never came to check on us. She seemed very overwhelmed and without clear direction. Our Groupon was worth $40 of food for two. Just getting two plates from the buffet was $35. We were done and ready to pay. Well that's when she told us that she could not accept the Groupon because the buffet was not included and it had to be from the menu. We contested that she gave us that as an option which for all we knew it was an easier solve for them to not have to cook individual meals and just have us get food from the buffet that was already out and served (they seemed busy with take out orders). She continued to state that she could not accept the Groupon. We asked for a manager or someone else, who seemed to be in the back cooking. He proceeded to let us know that she was new, did not know, made a mistake and they still will not accept the Groupon because what we ate was less than the worth. We asked what needed to be done in order for that to happen and they requested we order more food yet he still wanted us to pay out of pocket since we ate a plate each from the buffet. Anyhow, the service was terrible. The manager or staff that came from the kitchen was extremely rude and demeaning even when the server gave us the wrong information. The food was ok, edible but I've had better, the dining in experience was horrible and complete lack of customer service and attention. We got rice putting to make up for the amount they wanted us to reach. We left them at the table as we really did not care for any more food. The salt and pepper shakers are also sticky and dirty. Train your employees properly to avoid these mishaps.
