Dr. Elder and his staff are nothing but awesome! When I moved to the DC area 4+ years ago I was recommended to Dr. Elder and I am glad I was. Leeanne is nothing but professional and personable. When you walk in she greets you by name and makes you feel like family. She makes an effort to get to know you and is helpful when it comes to scheduling and rescheduling. Ellie is a great hygienist; she is careful and gentle. Dr. Elder is also very careful and gentle during his examinations and takes his time to ensure you are at ease and answers your questions. They helped to get me on a routine where I started to use an electric toothbrush and water flosser daily and my teeth feel great! I am moving soon and am going to miss this practice. Dr. Elder is a caring and experienced professional. I went twice - once for a checkup/second opinion, and the next for 2 sealants. Both times, he greeted me personally. I hate it when healthcare providers just do stuff to my body with tools I've never seen before, and expect me to be okay with it. Dr. Elder does a fantastic job of explaining all the tools he'll be using at the beginning of the session, and also explaining what he's about to do and what I can expect to feel, every step of the way. Two sealants took less than 20 minutes -- including him making adjustments to ensure my comfort as well as the sealants' durability. At no point did I feel like he was rushing. Leanne, the receptionist, is organized, warm, and communicative. As the first face that I've seen, she has really set the tone for the high quality experience I've gotten both times with Dr. Elder. Fans of my reviews have followed my painstaking quest to find a dentist I would not mind sticking with for more than 2 visits. Today was my first visit to the office of Dr. Elder and Elder. When I first called in for an appointment, the receptionist told me that they were booked up until November, but she asked me if I was willing to take a cancelled appointment--which I gladly took. The hygienist, Barbara, was very sweet and her lively chatter distracted me from her rummaging in my mouth. Instead of the water and suction, she scaled by hand which I prefer. Both her and Dr. Tim were very thorough with the examination and I felt like I was taken care of and not just another paycheck. In addition to the wonderful service, I loved that they didn't push any unnecessary procedures on me. In fact, they confirmed that I don't need enamel fillings (or bondings), like one of my previous dentists had recommended. I grind my teeth so Barbara went over all the different types of mouth guards I can try. They answered all my questions very thoroughly and did not rush me out at all. Absolutely pain-free and wonderful visit. Yes, I'm describing a dentist's office. read more

Dr. Elder is nice enough but I cant give a great recommendation after my 2 (supposed to be 3) visits. My major problem came when they cancelled my long standing appointment for their Christmas party right when I got laid off from my job, thus losing my dental coverage without ample time for me to find a new appointment. That and while I get that this is DC and everyone has an opinion on politics, one of the hygienists is a little over the top in her opinions and while I respect her passion it just made the appointment more stressful because I can't participate in the conversation with her fingers in my mouth. read more

Both dentists--dad and son/Gary and Tim are very good and don't try to sell you on unnecessary procedures. I switched from someone who claimed I needed 3-4 root canals or I'd lose those teeth "within a year." Dr. Elder reviewed the X-rays and said "nah." That was 4 years ago; no problems. I've been a patient of Dr. Elder's for over a decade; before that his dad was my dentist. I left DC a few years ago and I have not met a single dentist like him since, and I've tried! I actually schedule trips back to DC from New Orleans specifically to see him, or rather have him see me. Dr. Elder is skilled, professional, and kind, always working around your needs. For me, he represents the best of two worlds: the attention, care, and trust one gets from visiting an old-school family dentist married with a modern and efficient approach that uses all the latest technology and practices, reducing time, cost, and yes pain. Most dentists where I live now have big practices with dentists that have no idea who you are, offering more of an assembly-line experience than that of a family dentist office. Noe of them have the light touch Dr Elder uses to avoid pain and provide detailed work; I never really knew how good I had it. Most of the dentists I have seen since I was a regular patient of Dr. Elder comment on the work I've had done, how well it was done, and how good it looks. If you were to ask them, I'm sure all of his other patients would say the same thing. You'd be lucky to have him as your dentist. read more

Everyone is so kind at this practice and they do a fantastic job cleaning your teeth and answering any and all questions. Just moved to DC in the last 2 months and stumbled upon Dr. Elder through Yelp. It was very easy to make an appointment and they got me in relatively quickly. Instead of having to fill out a bunch of paperwork at the office they had an online form that I filled out ahead of time. I liked that. When I arrived I was a little early but they got me in pretty quickly anyway. My hygienist was VERY knowledgable and did a great job explaining to me how I could take better care of my teeth. She also explained what she was doing and why she was doing it. She kept the conversation going and had 80s music playing in the background to help distract me during the actual cleaning. She did a very thorough job and clearly loves and takes pride in her work. Dr. Elder himself was a nice man and also seemed quite knowledgable. He told me that the fillings I have are well done and I should never let anyone take them out unless I'm in pain. So that tells me that he's not out just to get money but is the real deal. Overall a great experience. I made another appointment for 6 months from now, and am thinking I'll stick with Dr. Elder and his crew for as long as I'm in the DC area. read more

I just transplanted to DC officially and I hadn't been to the dentist in a while but they made the appointment as painless as possible. It was very easy to get an appointment and on my way out the receptionist made a point of booking me my next one 6 mo. from now. The hygienist is also great and even though it was not the most enjoyable experience, her chatter was an excellent distraction. She also plays great oldies while she works! For as long as I am in DC I have a good feeling I will be staying with Dr. Elder! read more

I happened upon Dr. Elder because his office is very close to where I work and a lot of co-workers go to him, and I can't believe how lucky I was! Dr. Elder and his entire staff are incredibly nice, very approachable, and just downright pleasant to be around. As opposed to just about every other medical office I've visited in DC, my appointments always start on time and are super efficient. I agree with the other reviewers that Dr. Elder and his hygienists never try and upsell you or convince you of things you don't need- they truly do have your wellbeing and care in mind! Terrible service! Dr. Edler, please talk with Tomy, your assistant. I called today to make a rather urgent appointment for a second opinion. I am out of network and so asked a few questions to be sure that I'll have the funds to cover the expense. I deduced that I could afford this visit, and so asked for an email to send the films. She said send them to me...and gave the email. I then asked for her name. It's an unusual one so I repeated it and paused. She then became very angry. I get it... Tomy most likely got teased as a child or is asked to repeat her name. I meant and did no harm. She then tersely said "you know, you should go find another doctor." I said, wait a second -- what just happened here? What have I done to receive such strong and harsh words? I take my health very seriously. Sorry, but I cannot support an office that has front line people who are mean. You should know that your front office is also pushing away patients. I wish you success. If you seek to discuss, I will be open to removing this post. As a small business owner I know this is not good, but I have no other way of reaching you and alerting you to the "power" of your front staff. read more

Such a kind and informative dentist! I needed a broken filling fixed, and had very limited time available to fit in a visit to the dentist because of work. Thankfully, Dr. Elder was able to fit me in to his tight holiday schedule around mine. He was so personable and quick. He listened, examined, then explained everything he was going to do to me clearly before and during the procedure. He even adjusted it to feel more comfortable for me after he finished. We have been going to Dr Tim Elder since he has been in practice, and prior to that, his father, Dr. Gary Elder, now for about 40 years. Our children started with Gary Elder as children and now go to Dr. Tim Elder as adults. We drive down from Rehoboth Beach, DE to see Dr Elder. Teeth are important and can be expensive to maintain if you don't have the best dentist. My 6 upper front teeth implants, which required extractions and implants at age 41 because of a childhood accident, would not be holding fine, at my age at 66, 25 years later, were it not for the dental expertise of Tim and his father. He and his staff are excellent. read more

This review is long overdue. I've only reviewed businesses a couple times in the past and feel that Dr. Elder and his team deserve a five-star rating. I've been going to Dr. Elder for several years for my routine cleanings. Recently, I'd visited another dentist for a cleaning, as I no longer have dental insurance and decided to purchase a groupon. The dentist told me I had 3 cavities and a chipped filling that needed to be replaced. I was suspicious, so I called Dr. Tim for a second opinion. He did an exam and saw no signs of decay. Just to be certain, I got copies of my x-rays from the other dentist and sent them to him. Again, he saw no signs of decay and didn't recommend fooling with the chipped filling because it wasn't causing any pain or any other issues. After all this, he didn't even charge me for his time! You can't get better customer service than that. I grew up in this area and have had a few dentists in the area. My experience with Dr. Tim and his staff has been the best yet. They have always been friendly, helpful and upbeat, and Dr. Tim is about as nice and honest a dentist as you can ask for. I'll be moving out of state soon, but will plan to get my teeth cleaned by him and his staff when I'm back in town for a visit! read more

I just had my first clean/routine check up appointment with Dr Elder and the hygienist Hillary. Dr Elder was booked up until June so I opted to take the last minute cancellation. I'm so glad I did! Hillary is the most thorough hygienist I have ever had and you can tell she really wants to get your teeth and gums into a better shape, rather than filling the scheduled time. Dr Elder is also very nice and didn't try to sell any product to me, unlike the last dentist I had. read more

I just realized today that there are 2 Dr. Elders in two separate offices, in the exact same building. There is a son [Tim} and I think his grandfather [Gary]. I was kind of confused at first, because Dr. Tim[the younger] is in a brand new office one floor up, in suite #306. That is the dentist I always have seen, in the past. The staff looks the exact same, and it is a beautiful office. They took digital x-rays, so as soon as the x-ray was taken it showed up on the computer screen. I love this new office and Dr. Tim Elder. I highly recommend this office. read more
