Timpano - Tampa I genuinely do not understand how this place is Michelin recommended. Whoever was sent to evaluate it needs a second look. I've had better pasta at chain restaurants for half the price. The only reason this review isn't one star is because the calamari was actually good. That's it. That's the list of positives. My first pasta came out with a tomato sauce that legitimately tasted like someone diluted a spoonful of tomato paste in a cup of water and poured it over noodles. It had zero body, zero seasoning, zero depth. It tasted like warm pasta water. I've never sent a meal back in my life, but this one had to go. The server was kind and brought out a pesto pasta with grilled chicken. Somehow that was worse. The pesto was basically nonexistent -- no garlic, no basil punch, no richness. Just bland noodles and chicken. Sent that back too. Third attempt? Overcompensated with salt. It was so salty I just shook my head and told her it was fine because at that point I was done. Three tries. Three misses. I understand it was Valentine's Day and restaurants get busy. But being busy doesn't excuse flavorless sauces and poorly executed pasta. Michelin recognition sets expectations. This experience didn't even come close. This was beyond disappointing. I won't be back. read more

My boyfriend and I came to Timpano in Hyde Park for brunch specifically to try their French toast...i've been here before and loved it, but he hadn't tried it yet. We have our absolute favorite French toast spot nearby, but he declared this one by far the best in Tampa, and I have to agree, it's definitely up there! The Tiramisu French Toast (I think that's the one) was incredible: rich, fluffy, perfectly presented. We also got the brunch burger with an added egg. It was okay, nothing wrong with it, but it had a bit of a burnt/hard flavor on the patty that some people love but wasn't our favorite. Price-wise, it felt standard for a place like this (similar to other upscale burgers around Tampa), but we weren't dying over it. The truffle fries we added were outstanding, crispy, flavorful, and came with an incredible homemade dipping sauce. For an appetizer, we split the whipped burrata on toast (I think it's burrata crostini or similar) perfect portion to share between two (maybe up to four max), great presentation, and a nice starter. Coffees were very good, deep, rich flavor that stood on its own (I usually go for specialty drinks, but this was perfect black or with a little cream/sugar). Plates looked cute and matched the vibe. Ambience is great...rustic-elegant Italian feel with nice decor. We sat inside (it was cold out, and it was the Sunday after Gasparilla with the market going on). Place was busy for brunch, but we walked in right after church with no reservation and got seated right away, no wait! Our server was awesome: super knowledgeable about the menu and attentive the whole time. Presentation of the French toast, burger, and burrata was spot-on, everything looked Instagram-worthy. My boyfriend's never had dinner here (I've been before, it's been a while), but now he wants to come back for it. Brunch is definitely a win though..solid spot! The food was amazing. The atmosphere is nice, but very noisy and the thumping club-type music makes conversation a challenge. The service was touch and go. We checked in for the reservation and were told they would have a seat for us right away. After 30 minutes and seeing parties who walked in sat before us. I approached the hostess and was told that they had not checked us in and didn't know that we (in front of them) were waiting. The server they sat us with was overwhelmed and took about 20 minutes to send another server over to take our order. Things took a long time and items were forgotten. They have some of the best spicy rigatoni Ihave ever tried. The portion for the price, however, was pretty small. The espresso martini was decent though they automatically put Baileys into it which is not my preference. I sat at the bar and all of the bartenders were super sweet! The interior is very pretty. Never tried the brunch until now and I highly recommend! They had a wide variety of dishes from sweet to savory. I almost got the tiramisu French toast because it looked delicious, I will definitely get next time, but I wanted lunch so I got the rigatoni with sausage and not only is it super well seasoned and mouthwatering but a big portion I had to bring some home. My fiancée go the breakfast burger and he liked the plate cause the sauce they add to it is out of this world! A tip you have to order the truffle fries it's a must. One weird thing they didn't have Coke Zero for all my zero girlies. The service was a little slow but we went after gasparilla so it was packed. I am extremely bummed to write this review because prior to this visit we had nothing but amazing experiences. However, our yearly Anniversary Dinner was a tremendous let down at Timpano. We went on a Wednesday night this week, thinking there would be less of a crowd, and there was an extremely loud group of individuals that sat in the middle of the restaurant which ruined the whole atmosphere. The thing that surprised me was that none of the staff were asking them to be quiet and respectful of other guests. Instead, the music in the restaurant was turned up so loud so all evening we could barely hear each other. In addition, our server was beyond inattentive and our entire meal took almost 2 hours from start to finish. We ordered the Whipped Ricotta Crostini for $14 which came out cold and the bread was rock hard we couldn't even bite into it. We were able to get that subbed instead for the Housemade Focaccia which was hot a fresh. It was much better. After that it took an additional 20 minutes to order drinks and another 20 before he finally came to our table to ask if we were ready for our main entree. Our waters were not refilled unless asking and when the meal finally did come out the pasta was great except it was cold. After we finished eating, we waited another 30 minutes before our server came back to ask us if we were ready for the check. When he asked us if we wanted our leftovers boxed up, we said yes, and then proceeded to take our food and get stopped multiple times by other servers and went to another couples table with our food in hand. I don't like that our food was taken around the restaurant around multiple different people. There are sanitary issues in hand. Overall, we were extremely disappointed and will not be having our traditional yearly anniversary at Timpano's anymore sadly. read more

The food at Timpano was genuinely good -- no complaints there. Unfortunately, that's where the positive experience ended. Shortly after our appetizers arrived, a group of four young women settled in at the bar. Within minutes, the noise level became extreme -- loud voices and repeated shrieking that carried throughout the dining room, making conversation completely impossible. We couldn't hear each other across the table. We politely asked our server if something could be done. We were told the manager had been notified. At some point, we noticed the bartender say something briefly to the group and pointedly glance in our direction. I want to take it as an acknowledgment, at least, that the complaint had been passed along. It had no effect whatsoever on the noise level. Around us, other diners were visibly frustrated -- we watched people get up and leave, one commenting out loud that they couldn't take it anymore. After trying appetizers, we wanted to stay for a full meal, but instead, we skipped our entrées and left as fast as we could. A bar and a dining room sharing space is a common setup, and it can work beautifully -- but it requires staff willing to do more than a cursory word when bar energy overwhelms the room. A quiet, firm request to keep it down would have been enough. That never came. We may return to try the food again -- but not until we have more confidence that Timpano is willing to protect the dining experience it's presumably trying to offer. read more

Timpano was a tasty and fun spot. I walk by it all the time in Hyde Park Village. The lobster arancini was beyond delicious - flavorful, perfectly seasoned and nicely fried without being greasy. The grilled octopus tasted fresh and not rubbery. The cheese wheel pasta was a great presentation but the pasta and sauce were just okay. It was not salty enough and very overpowering. Didn't have a pleasant start to my visit here. My mom and I just finished up a Color Party at Kendra Scott and decided to try out Timpano for lunch. When we entered the establishment we asked about the wait time. The hostess told us that it would be about an hour-hour and a half wait. As we looked around the restaurant there were many empty tables we saw. Something told me to take a look at OpenTable to see if we could put in a reservation request for an hour from now, and just walk around until our time was available. Upon reviewing reservation times, we saw that there was a reservation open for 8 minutes after the current time (it was 4:22, the res. was available for 4:30, and so on in 15 minutes increments until late dinner time). This rubbed my mother and I the wrong way, but we'd heard great things about the restaurant and still wanted to try it. We went in and I showed the hostess the reservation and she immediately said "I don't think that that's accurate, but I'll seat you anyway"...interesting...she then proceeded to try to seat two ladies that were in line behind us, but they were just looking for their party that was already seated. Once seated, our experience improved. Our waitress was welcoming and very helpful with meal selection. I ordered the Zen Martini, which was very yummy! For food, my mom ordered the Heritage Berkshire Pork Chop and I got the Rigatoni. My mom loved her pork chop, but my Rigatoni was subpar. The sauce was fairly salty. I didn't want to make a fuss, so I endured. I'm saddened by the fact that I was really looking forward to trying this place out, but got disappointed by the initial service and the food. I think I'm becoming a creature of habit because I'm back again at Timpano I decided to celebrate my birthday with dinner on a Friday night. We made a late reservation for 8:45 PM. I did find it odd that they had a table who was cashed out, but they had not gotten up yet causing our reservation to run behind. I think for busy nights there should be some sort of time limit, especially when you have parties waiting. They did, however, offer a complementary Prosecco to accommodate for the wait. For Sunday lunch, we visited Timpano Hyde Park. Since we had made a reservation in advance, we were seated immediately upon arrival. Unsure about which appetizer to choose, we took his recommendation and ordered the Burrata. For our main courses, we went with: Funghi Crostini, Bucatini, Truffle Trotters. The Burrata arrived first, and it was a standout dish--creamy, flavorful, and complemented perfectly by pistachios, cheese, and bread. It was one of the best appetizers we've had and set a great tone for the meal. Next, our main courses arrived. The Truffle Trotters were a bit underwhelming, and we regretted not choosing Truffle Fries instead. My friend & I visited Timpano yesterday during their social hour. We were greeted by an extremely welcoming and attentive bartender who gave us great recommendations. I got the Italian Margarita, and my friend got the Limoncello Spritz. Both were good. For food we went with the recommendations, Lobster Arancini and Whipped Ricotta Crostini. The lobster arancini was wonderful, I really enjoyed the greens and felt like it lightened & complimented the dish in a great way. Though the true star of our experience was the whipped ricotta crostini. To die for! I will be coming back specifically for this. The bread was perfectly crunchy with caramelized honey, buttery, had the perfect amount of creamy ricotta & the mint on top just balanced out the dish perfectly. In my honest opinion the Sea Bass tasted decent but the price is not worth it. $54 dollars for such a small piece of fish. Furthermore the seasoning on the bass was very basic, smothered in butter and oil, really no other good aromas a flavors. The ambiance of this restaurant is easily my favorite part. I went here on a weekday and was promptly sat, starting off our meal with the tuna tartar. It was fresh with a clean, slightly sweet flavor - a balance of savory umami and bright acidity. We then ordered the Chilean Seabass and Lobster Risotto to share as our mains. The seabass was rich and buttery, perfectly tender. It both melted in your mouth and had a slight crispiness on the outside. The risotto was my favorite, creamy and rich with flavor from the lobster. My only note is that I wish there was more lobster in the dish. Compared to other restaurants in Hyde Park, I wouldn't say this is my favorite/first pick however it definitely made for a nicer night out!
