The outside bar didn't open until 4p on a Saturday, and after it opened, we ordered some espresso martini's with Licor 43 which were pretty good. The dirty martini's were made extra dirty on request and the rose was flowing as well. They also had a Del Maguey mezcal flight which was a nice way to finish off the afternoon. The bartender was friendly and engaging and was also prompt with service, even after the bar filled up. She said it can get busy in the evening hours and also as the restaurant side opens up. This place has great views and it's super cute inside and outside! I ordered a sangria and the short rib and yucca hash. The drinks were really good, however I would not recommend the food here at all. The short rib was extremely dry and hard and the yucca hash was extremely dense and flavorless, which was very disappointing considering the prices. I had two drinks and the dish on my check, however the server split up the items, I requested to put them together however they were charged separately with the automatic gratuity on each so it ended up being more. We ordered mocktails and 2 small brunch plates, waited over 45 minutes, and never received anything. When we asked the server she answered with no care and said she couldn't do anything about it. We came here celebrating one of our friends and we saw online that they have a great happy hour, we were kind of a big group so we decided to sit at a table, that's when they told us that the happy hour it's at the bar only, thing that was not advertised in the happy hour but well we decide to stay and share a couple wine bottles, shoutout to their wine selection it's actually pretty nice. We shared a couple appetizers, the tostones were very average and the charcuterie board was just okay, the star of the night were those croquetas, they are outstanding and one of the best things of our night here. I booked a Mother's Day reservation for four at Sal Y Mar and unfortunately it ended up being a really disappointing experience. We were seated outside on the rooftop in direct sun with no umbrellas, fans, or any shade coverage at all. Temperatures were in the high 80s to low 90s, and while it seemed manageable at first, the longer we sat waiting for drinks the worse it became. Eventually my mom simply could not tolerate the heat anymore. What made it more frustrating was that we were the only table seated out there at the time. We ended up paying for our cocktails and canceling our meals because staying there was unbearable. Not exactly the Mother's Day experience we hoped for. In the future, if guests are being seated in full sun during 90-degree weather, there really needs to be some basic accommodation for comfort -- at minimum umbrellas or some type of shade. read more

It is important to say that this is not a reflection on the server/waitress that I had. She was great! Given the situation, she did her best with the situation and I'm very appreciative of her effort. However, this restaurant seriously had some serious mismanagement and oversight. On Mother's Day, of all days, how are you this severely understaffed? I know you had 3 large parties that came in, but if you know you were going to be short handed, perhaps you should have limited or restricted the number of reservations rather than stretching your staff so thin. Because of this, the overall service and experience suffered. I show up 10 minutes before my reservation time and ended waiting 20 minutes past my reservation time before I was seated. I put in order for appetizers and they didn't come out until the entrees came out. The entree itself, which the braised beef short rib was pretty tender, the overall plate was lukewarm. The Yuca Mash was under seasoned and I didn't get any of the seasonal root vegetables that were listed on the menu to accompany my dish. While the Croquettes and Baked Oysters were decent in flavor, they too were lukewarm. I truly hope this restaurant and management can get things in order. This is a great location and has potential to turn out great food. But if you have these operational shortcomings on major holidays, it really doesn't reflect well on the restaurant as a whole. read more

Let me 1st start by saying this place esthetically is beautiful. It is a Yucatan inspired decor with latin menu. But this place has very poor service. This is my 3rd time there to dine in and thought maybe this time will be different. The server was not even the biggest problem, although she wasn't attentive. The biggest problem was the lengthy time for the food to be delivered and the quality of the food. We got there for an event that was 12-4 sat down at 12:50 orders place by 1:10. It was supposed to be a quick brunch then the Cafecito Rooftop Party event. We did not get food until after 2 o'clock! Which at this time 1 of our guest decided just cancel her order she wanted to enjoy the event that we paid for. When my food came the homefries were greasy and not crispy at all, my over easy eggs were cooked all the way the sausage was cold, my toast cold and had no butter, so I sent it back and said I no longer wanted the food there and my self and other guest would eat after event at Shake Shack. My other guest said they still presented our 2 checks that we send back and also after this they also charged a 20% gratuity automatically for larger parties of 6. I will clarify that once we spoke to the server and told her we sent back the food she took them off the bill. I told the other guest that ate go up to cash out because in the past times it has taken over 30 minutes to get cashed out. And they said no the server should come back out so we will wait. Needless to say they went in to pay due to the lengthy time yo be cashed out! We had another party of 6 at another table and their food as well took a lengthy time as well. We also overheard another guest who stormed up to the front to ask for a manager. Her complaints were rude service. I really honestly want this place to succeed because it is a beautiful place with great rooftop view of the city. A pleasant hideaway with a delightful view. Finding parking can be tricky unless you want to pay for the valet. We managed to grab the last space in the small lot behind the building, but I wouldn't count on it on a regular basis. They have a good selection of beverages and lots of food choices. My wife and I shared their Ahi Tuna Nachos, which tasted even better than they looked. Sadly, we were hungry, and we didn't stop to take pictures. You should order them, and you'll love them too. I believe it's the element but don't quote me on that. The food lacks diversity and flavor. It's standard bar fair so I usually don't order food. We didn't have a reservation and was offered a seat at the bar, which we accepted. Usually, when I've sat at a bar the bartenders are friendly and helpful. Well at this place they ignore us and do not make you feel welcomed. I felt like I was bothering them with every request including asking for silverware and small plates. Went here for a birthday brunch and it was a horrible experience. The drinks took forever to arrive and it was NOT busy. I think they are either completely understaffed or unprepared. The restaurant was almost empty aside from 3/5 tables of less than 8. The drinks were extremely weak to be $16-20 in price range. Then the food took over 1.5 hours to come out. When it did my chicken was lukewarm and the waffle was cold. This is brunch plates were talking here that took this long and did not appeal to our taste. The server made 0 accommodations or updates as to why we were waiting so long. Other tables said they got to the restaurant at 12pm and did not get food until 3pm. I advised the server my waffle was cold and they did bring a new plate... to which the waffle and chicken tasted like it was sitting all morning on a warmer. For this particular visit, my friend and I each had two different tequila-based drinks. They weren't strong but had a pretty good taste. We also shared the shrimp tostones and beef empanadas. I'm not going to lie, after seeing Sal Y Mar being featured in Selling Tampa on Netflix, my expectations we're probably a bit too high. I was surprised at how "tight" the inside of the restaurant is. The high top tables are gorgeous for the restaurant's aesthetic, but they are not comfortable. I know a lot of people prefer the outdoor dining for the beautiful view of Tampa, but with it being the middle of the summer, it was wayyyy too hot to sit outside. On the plus side, they have covered outside seating for those interested. My friend enjoyed her steak, but the vegan ravioli was too dry and some of the pasta tasted chewy and undone. Service was okay. Since my friend ordered a steak well-done, our food took awhile to get to us. Our server didn't check up on us until my friend stopped her to ask how much longer we would have to wait. When arrived to the restaurant, we were separated in three different tables, and we were not informed of that. We didn't know and the reservation given to us was 30 minutes before the restaurant closes, so besides the food taking too long we were rushed to eat and leave fast. I booked my reservation at Sal Y Mar weeks in advance with no issues. The hiccup came when I tried calling multiple times the week prior to ask a simple question about bringing in a custom Valentine's cake for my daughters and friends. No one answered, and my voicemail was never returned. When we arrived, I politely asked why no one had been answering the phone. The manager (or team lead) immediately went into defense mode and explained that apparently a manager had taken the phone home and they had just gotten it back an hour before. Whew. Since I hadn't received a response, I brought the cake anyway because leaving a custom cake in a Florida car is simply not an option. I was then informed there would be a $45 fee for outside food. When I asked what if we didn't eat it there, I was told it would still be $45... but it could be "brought down" to $35. I agreed, because at that point the cake had already survived Florida heat and deserved to see the table. There was also an automatic 20% gratuity added, yet we were still prompted for an additional tip. My server, Carlos, was amazing attentive, kind, and truly the highlight of the service. I just genuinely hope he actually receives the gratuity that's automatically added. The food? Great. No complaints there. The atmosphere? A little underwhelming for Valentine's Day maybe it was the low-temperature music or just the vibe, but it didn't quite match the occasion. Overall, it wasn't a terrible experience, but it wasn't memorable in the way I'd hoped for a special celebration. As much as I love a rooftop moment, I don't see myself returning. read more

I ordered the Surf and Turf Bicongo which is Cilantro Shrimp, Marinated Steak, Red Peppers, Spanish Onions, Garlic Butter. The bicongo is ripe and green plantains fried and mashed together. The meal was excellent the flavors blended brilliantly the onions were sautéed just right and the mixture of green and ripe plantains was delicious. The cilantro shrimp was seasoned to perfection and moist. I asked for the steak to be medium and it wasn't also they skimped on the steak. That is my only issue with my meal. I had a glass of Malbec with my dinner. My dinner date had the PORK CHULETA and he didn't like it at all he said it was overcooked and not seasoned well. The service was great!
