Had the displeasure of eating here this evening. We ordered three different plates for the table, and every single one came out cold, not just lukewarm, but like it had been sitting in a refrigerator and never reheated. The only items that were actually hot were the catfish and a hotdog. Our waitress took about 20 minutes to come back and take our order, and after the food was delivered, we didn't see her again for quite a while. That meant we never had the chance to mention the food was cold, couldn't get refills, and were left sitting there waiting for the check. When she finally returned roughly 25 minutes later, she saw that most of the food was untouched and didn't question it at all. At that point, we just paid and left. To make matters worse, there's a section of the ceiling actively leaking a dark, sticky substance that looks like honey, which is pretty concerning. The pepper sauce for the greens also had peppers that had turned completely white, not even a tiny of green or yellow anymore. Overall, a very disappointing experience. Went looking for Cajun food for Mardi Gras & Tim's was so fun and good we went 2 nights in a row. Pros: - Everyone is treated like family, Tim comes around and talks to every table. - The food is authentic Cajun cuisine with loads of flavor - large portions - live music and fun atmosphere - food and drinks specials weekly, check their socials - love the decor, feels like Louisiana in AL - the sweet roll that comes with platters is phenomenal!!!! Cons: - Very busy (was a holiday weekend), which is great for them - could just be slow w service at times. - Expensive priced crawfish compared to other spots in town $45 for 3lb w potatoes corn and sausage. You can't beat Tim's for authentic Cajun food esp their boiled crawfish. They even got the dipping sauce game on point. We had some boudin balls also not pictured but they are amazing. Great staff and service even tho it was slammed due to crawfish season but that's expected on Friday and Saturday nights. Wife got one shrimp in the gumbo and her side green bean casserole was something that more closely resembled a microwave dinner. I liked this place, with a few reservations... Pros: Parking was a breeze (there's a lot), though we came during off hours--also meant no issue with seating. Service was lovely. The boiled shrimp were tasty, had some spice, and came out quickly. My shrimp po' boy was good (if a bit skimpy on shrimp for the price). The bread was nice, and I enjoyed the Cajun fries (note: they're salty, but I didn't mind it). Crawfish po' boy had much more stuffed in it and was nicely cooked. I didn't think prices were outrageous (the shrimp were a bit high, but meh). The fried stuff didn't taste like old grease, nor was it dripping with oil. Cons: I can't speak for the gumbo, etc. but it didn't feel super authentic to me. Next time I'll try one of the "real" Cajun dishes. Will SOMEONE please clean that bathroom. It smelled awful, was tiny, and you could see where (hopefully just) water had come up from the floor drain recently. It was honestly just nasty. Once the restaurant got a few more customers, I could see how the single server was going to have a hard time dealing with all of them attentively. Pepsi products only :( Overall, I'd go again. The alligator is spot on perfect and tender. The boiled crawfish - I wait all year for the post that Tim's has it in. The spice is perfect. I drive about an hour and a half for the crawfish. The only thing I would ask in a perfect world is if the boil started earlier than 4 on Saturdays. But I'll take what I can get! Service has always been great! read more

I ordered a catfish PoBoy with fries for myself. Catfish had zero taste & fries were limp & soggy. 1 Coworker ordered a shrimp PoBoy, said his shrimp taste like rubber, same issues with fries. Last coworker ordered Wings, Jambalaya, & Fries. Same issue with fries, Didn't get to the Jambalaya, & the wings were "just okay". For a grand total of $70, this was NOT money well spent. I've heard about Tim's Canjun Kitchen so decided to finally try it out. It appears the building used to be a Pizza Hut. With that being said, it is definitely a "mom and pop" type of restaurant. Its decor is definitely geared towards Louisiana, hence "Canjun" kitchen. The restaurant definitely needs some upgrades although it was clean. Our waitress/cashier was super nice and gave us great service. I ended up ordering the gumbo with fried okra and corn nuggets. The gumbo was good, however it was just too much rice. Less rice and more gumbo. And although the okra and the corn nuggets were very crispy (how I like it), they were served a little on the cold side. I almost asked the waitress to pop my plate in the microwave. Last but not least, I tried their famous bread pudding. It was delicious, but once again, it was on the cold side. Not sure if the food is actually cooked to order, but nonetheless it was pretty decent. It has been a few years since last visit to Tim's and I'm so glad that they survived the pandemic and everything!!!! And- the food is still great! The étouffe was full of crayfish, turnip greens were most delicious, fried okra was crunchy but moist and very well seasoned and squash casserole was excellent- great flavor, not greasy, well seasoned. Being form New Orleans I love the atmosphere at Tim's. The decorations and decor make me feel like I'm home. I stopped in last Friday to try their meat load special. A large chunk of meat load was served with a side of mashed potatoes. The other side was bread pudding and I love bread pudding. Their bread pudding is more dense that traditional bread pudding, but their sauce is spot on. The absolute winner of the meal was the roll. OMG! Their yeast roll was the best roll that I've ever tasted in my life. I told the waitress how much I liked the roll and she brought a couple extra to the table. The red beans and rice was not very tasty, almost a "muddy" taste to it. WAY too much rice. Green bean casserole had no fried green tomatoes. Bread pudding was super-rich but OK. I ate hear recently and got red beans and rice and fried okra. To me, to be a top Cajun restaurant you need to knock the classics out of the park. Red Beans and Rice is a classic. And Tim's version was just okay. One disappointing thing is instead of long grain or medium rice, they used what appeared to be minute rice. The flavor overall was just lacking. I had lunch here before driving back to Birmingham last week while on a business trip. Walking in and taking a seat, I asked the waitress for the crawfish étouffée with some fried okra and also some stewed tomatoes and okra. The good came out in less than 10 minutes. The serving of étouffée was in a separate bowl and I thought it was smaller than expected however chocked full of content especially crawfish. The fried okra was a large serving while the stewed tomatoes and okra were in a very small bowl. I was disappointed with its size. See the pic for all 3 items mentioned. Okay so after my doctors visit today, I was told that I have a slight increased cholesterol level and high blood pressure at 29! Horrifying, so I wanted to have a dinner that wasn't too salty or fried(I'm from Mississippi, I can't help it), then I stumbled across Tim's Cajun Kitchen, suggested by a very handsome male friend of mine, hidden on Jordan Lane! Something like serendipity! The server was so polite and happy to serve us even though we arrived a little after 8, they close at 9 on Monday's. After looking over the menu, I decided on a cup of crawfish etouffee and crab boiled shrimp- not fried!! It was absolutely amazing and delicious and filling, though a small portion.
