Tin Cup's is an iconic bar/grill on the East side. The owner, Gidget Bailey is the most endearing woman you will ever want to meet. She tirelessly watches out for the people in her community. She calls out public officials when they err, and she holds fundraisers for groups, causes and individuals in need. Food was great but the service has gone downhill. I brought my family of 6 out for dinner Friday night and there were only 2 other tables eating the same time as us. We ordered your apps and drinks. the kids and wife got their drinks and I didn't. When the apps came out, we were told that they were out of the mozzarella sticks. After waiting a while I began to notice that the other tables were not getting any refills as ours had been sitting empty for a while. Meanwhile, I still didn't get my drink. My wife waved down the waitress for refills. Hoping she would notice that I still had not got my drink, she came back with the kids refill. She looked over the table and still didn't notice I didn't get my drink. I was the only one who had ordered a beer. So it's not like it was overlooked by the pops. We all ordered the juicey losies so i know those take some time. But the kids and wife sat with empty cups. Like I said, it was very slow this night. Two other tables, and the other two were finishing when our food arrived, so it's not like the waitress was busy. When my tab came, my beer was on there. They did take it off since I never got it. our family goes out for dinner almost on a weekly basis, so I know the difference between bad service and busy service, and this was bad service! read more

I have been wanting to try a Jucy Lucy for quite a while. I have been reading about the rivalry between the 5-8 Club and Matts Bar and Grill in Minneapolis about which place invented the Jucy Lucy and who has the best. Being from St Paul and knowing there are quite a few places that have a version of a Jucy Lucy, I wanted to spend my Jucy Lucy dollars on this side of town. I was all set to go to a different place in St Paul, but upon reading about the Tin Cup and there version of this burger, I decided the Tin Cup will get my first Jucy Lucy dollars. It helped to that it is very close to me. As others have mentioned, it is a blue collar bar/restaurant place. Nothing fancy, but decent enough for me. It has about 20 stools at the bar, 2 rows of tables and a row of booths. As a guess, I would say a capacity of 100 - 120. Fairly large to me. I went there about noon. Two guys at the bar, 2 parties in the booth area. None at the tables. Pretty quiet it seemed to me. That's OK. I am no into crowds. I sit down at a booth and was quickly offered a menu and asked about a drink order. Water is fine for now. Quickly was served a large glass of ice water. Very refreshing on this cold winter day !!! After a few minutes of looking over the menu, I decided on the Luicfer. A Jucy Lucy stuffed with pepper jack cheese and Jalapenos, topped with a Diablo Sauce. The waitress took my order and verified my desire to have it cooked medium. I was served with my burger/fries in about 15 minutes. That is a decent amount of time. I would be concerned if it was shorter, that the burgers are semi cooked and finished after an order is placed. The burger is served in a standard basket lined with red/white checkered food paper. If wanting it served on a plate, they will do so if you ask. Basket is fine for me. I wish I would have brought my camera to get a pic. It was a nice looking burger and fries. No camera with me today. I asked for a refill of my water and it was quickly brought to me. I let the burger cool a bit, nibbling on the fries. After a few minutes, I bit into the so wonderful burger. First bite there was not much cheese, which is what I would expect for a stuffed burger. Second bite, OH MY, delicious, wonderful, gooey cheese, with a jalapeno slice. YUM. I liked the bun. Nothing fancy, just a basic fresh white bun, slightly toasted. A bit of the Diablo sauce dripped off the burger, into the basket. I forgot to taste it separately. As I was getting near the center of this burger, more cheese and a few too many jalapenos. I like jalapenos, but it kinda over powered the rest of the burger. It is a very decent Jucy Lucy, but my eyeballs didn't pop out. When my eyeballs pop out, I have hit the jackpot. Sadly, this didn't happen. My search for an eyeballs popping out Jucy Lucy continues. read more

We had dinner during the mid week at less than half capacity. We waited a long time for our food but the drinks were good and atmosphere was comfortable for a dive bar. The food was worth it! I had the French Dipper juicy Lucy and it was possibly the best burger Ive iever had. My friend had the walleye special....also yum! My advice....stay away from the house chips and pay for the fries. On the search for the most amazing burger I stopped in the Tin Cup who has quite the reputation for a Juicy Lucy......I have to say although I am quite impressed with the service and staff. The food is just sub-par. My cheeseburger was clearly the pre-formed frozen with little to no taste. I believe the chili was the kind bought in bulk and poured out of can. This is a home town favorite...a place that my family has been going to for a few generations...th people are great..I am always welcomed. It has warm, your a part of something special feel. I never stop smiling while I am here. The food is wonderful. My fave is the cedar burger...and the fries are bomb. I can't say enough for the tacos..yum! My Jed loves the inside out California burger. The owner Gidget is awesome. She always says hello. Opens her place of business for others try to Make it as well...she loves her community so much and plans many activities and events to keep the neighborhood together and safe ! "Tin Cup" is the quintessential greasy-spoon and dive bar. The fried walleye fingers and the wide variety of "Juicy Lucy" burgers are the best items on the menu by far. This restaurant and bar is exactly what you would expect it to be. Service is not the best, but not bad. It can take a while to have your order taken and to get your food when it is busy due to the small number of staff working at any given time. There is a large number of "regulars" that come here several times a week. Tin Cup also offers pull-tabs, bingo night, raffles, and other special events. read more

I've been to the Tin Cups a few times with my Wife and every time I go I always keep my expectations low because you never know what you're going to get.. I can't complain about the food, the cooks do a pretty bad-ass job on whipping up some grubbing meals. BUT, I do have an issue with a few of the waiters and management, it seems that every time I come in for dinner the Manager is always sitting when she should be walking around making sure her customers are satisfied and her staff is content. Besides all that, I did have a pretty awesome server named Tammy. She was very helpful, funny, kind and made sure everything was to my liking! She did a kick-ass job and if I decide to ever come back to the Tin Cups again I'll be sure to request her!!!! read more

The food is ok. The server did not know what she was doing. We didn't get the drink specials that we ordered and it took almost an hour to get our food. Nothing like having the back door open for the smoking lounge. I tried shutting the door twice while waiting for our meal. The smokers kept opening the door back up. One of them was even standing inside the back door with his heater in hand. Won't go back again. I believe the state law is fifteen feet from the door. Not here. read more

We've really tried to like Tin Cup as it is fairly close to our house, and have given it a few tries, but last night is the last time we will be going there. The food is OK but the service is horrendous. Our waiter started out great and very enthusiastic, but after bringing drinks and taking orders it went down from there. Management really should have more than one wait person, as he clearly can not handle the stress of taking care of that many tables at one time. I had a wrap, so not very difficult to screw up, and my husband had the special of Chicken and Ribs. They are known for their chicken and he was pretty excited to try it, and he loves ribs as well. His meal was not to his liking, which was not that big of a deal. But the waiter took it personally and could not understand how someone could not like the food. We sat awkwardly for 15-20 minutes waiting for the server to even come back so we could get our bill. The place was not that busy, and he was in a back booth folding napkins and silverware. I was about to go to the bar to request our bill when I found him and asked him to come and take care of us. His excuse was that he was busy getting food out to other tables, but we were watching him, and that is clearly not what he was doing at all. No apology for not being on top of it. We felt as though he forgot we were even there. When we mentioned this he got very flustered and went to get the bill. Someone else brought the bill out. I guess he was too flustered to do it himself? And she was also questioning why my husband did not flip head over heels for their ribs like "everyone else does." They really should be focusing more on waiting tables properly and less on taking a criticism so personally. As we were getting up to leave the waiter did come to the table again, and again wanted to know why my husband wasn't a fan of the food. The ribs had great potential, as they were fall off the bone tender, but they just didn't taste good. Maybe lesser quality of meat (which they very much denied) Also the chicken was maybe not done, as it was still kind of bloody inside. But our issue really wasn't with the food at all, our issue was with the service that took forever. Food that took forever to come out. I saw tables who came after us get their food before we did. Like I said, we really wanted to like this place. We have been here a few other times and the food has been fine, but the one thing that keeps preventing us from coming back, and will prevent me from recommending this place to anyone, is the horrible service. read more

This is a traditional neighborhood dive bar that still is welcoming to families. The menu is very creative and the food is terrific. Everything is home cooking at it's tasty, greasy best. I am not from the rice street neighborhood, so when i come in to Tin Cup I get stared at, lol it's a friendly neighborhood bar/restaurant. But I am willing to travel to come here. I had the fried chicken dish and it was decent. The atmosphere seemed like it could be fun (we went in the mid afternoon) but there was numerous altercations between other customers there that day. This is the best bar I've been to in the cities. I come from a blue-collar rural MN town, and this is as close to home as it gets.

Just ate at Tin Cups after not going there for several years. I ordered the Reuben .Big mistake. It was shredded up corned beef and I thought it tasted like canned corned beef hash. I couldn't eat it and sent it back. I can't remember the last time I sent a meal back. The next thing I know the cook came out and harassed me and told me he cooked it for 17 hours and no one has ever complained about his Reuben. than the waitress came out and said she couldn't believe I thought it was canned, and even the assistant cook came and talked to me. They took the food back but refused to take it off the bill even though I had just eaten a few bites and none of the fries. The waitress ignored me for the rest of the night, to the point of me having to have someone else order beverages for me .Valentines night was ruined for me .The most disappointing thing is I rarely go out. read more

Well we can't rate the food... because our order never came in in time to eat it! We read how great this place was last year in the Pioneer Press. Finally got everyone together for a "Sunday Funday" at the Tin Cup. A group of seven of us went to do the meat raffle, pull tabs, and have a Juicy Lucy and the Famous Chicken. Our server was pleasant enough, but we had to continually flag her down to get her to service our table. After placing our orders, the food came in a reasonable 25 to 30 minutes or so except for my husband's chicken and my Juicy Lucy. The server said ours would be out in 10 minutes. So while five of our group ate, my husband and I sat for another 30 minutes with no food. So at this point we decided just to cancel our order as everybody else in our group was done eating and ready to go. About a minute after informing our server to cancel our order she came back with our food which was now over an hour after ordering. We refused to accept it because it was too late and wanted it taken off our bill which our server agreed to do. We asked for the manager (Brittany, the owner's daughter) to let her know we were not happy with our first visit to the Tin Cup. When we told her that we were not accepting the late order, she offered no comping, no apology and treated us like crap. When we informed her that we would be posting a bad review for the place, she pretty much said she didn't care. Then we waited and waited for the bill, so my friend goes back to see if she could get their bill, which they told her they had to recreate (because the server didn't have a clue what we had for food, drinks etc.) The manager told my friend to "go and sit down" ...super rudely. Two out of our group were servers and know managers are to help and make sure things run smoothly. We ordered after the meat raffle so it wasn't very busy to give us good service. We are super easy going foodie people and very generous tippers and for the first time in my whole life couldn't justify a tip and will not be coming back to the Tin Cup! read more

never again! we went on a friday night for the fish fry and it was busy, only one table and a booth open in the back. we asked if we could get the booth seeing as it was my wife, my mother, my son and myself and was told " the booth was a waitress station" so we took the cold table next to the front door. waitress took our drink orders and came back with them 10 mins later. no big deal, it was busy. we ordered our food, three fish fry meals, and waited, and waited, and waited. we waited a solid 40 mins. another couple with a young child came in and stood at a counter and orderd 2 fish frys and a chicken strip for the kid. THEY GOT THERE FOOD A SOLID 15 mins BEFORE US!!! we had to ask another waitress for refills and about our order, then our waitress returned and said that she had not forgot about us and that it was busy. not more than 4 mins later our food came to the table. kinda seems like she forgot, no drink refills and no food till we asked. the fish was 6 out 10. oh yeah and back to the "waitress station" as we got ready to leave i noticed that a couple was sitting in that same booth. read more

Tin Cup is one of the best restaurants in the Twin Cities area. I use to frequent the bar/restaurant back in the 80's and absolutely loved their fried chicken. I have gotten reacquainted with the restaurant in the last 2 years and the wonderful owner Gidget more recently. They still have the best fried chicken in town but it's a hard decision because their burgers, particularly their juicy lucy's, are absolutely mouth wateringly delicious! They don't skimp on the beef and are stuffed to capacity with whatever you order. The owner Gidget opens her restaurant and heart to those in need in the community by helping to plan benefits and giving to those that are the neediest. She is on top of everything that goes on inside her restaurant and treats her employees like family and you can see that by the way they care about eachother and work so well together. I've seen nothing but smiling faces on all the employees and the service is phenomenal! read more
