The ambiance, sitting on the patio was great. Service was sub par. There was apparently a lack of preparation on the part of the management for an event weekend. The food we ordered literally consisted of salad and burgers, things that do not take long to make, took over an hour to receive. We had to go in and see if we had a server, then we had to go in and see if our drinks were coming, then we tried to cancel our order so we could move on and then the food showed up. The lettuce on the plate with the crab cakes looked like it also went through the chameleon with the crab cakes. A well done burger was medium at best with cold fries. We visited both the restaurant and the brewery on separate days. The restaurant had great food, with good service. The manager even came over to ask how our lunch was (something no other manager did while we visisted). A bit like an upscale pub, but reasonably priced. I'm not sure if it's a scratch kitchen, it may be. You can have your pick of wine, beer or cocktails, and because it's a brewery, not be judged for indulging before noon. The brewery was also quite fun. We went in there before our train left at 5 on a Monday. We met a very nice couple who were also Kansas-citians, and in public service like ourselves. I enjoyed a flight, as I always try to sample as many craft brews as I can, especially a local craft brew. They have a cellar you can explore as well, which made it fun. I would love to go back and see this place during a concert or summer event. Their beer was fresh, cold and crisp! Just how we like it! read more

Disappointed. Used the washroom located in the lower level. It looked, and smelled, like it had not been cleaned in ages. The smell permeated up the open stairs into the main floor. I was pleasantly surprised by the beer at Tin Mill (as was my very happy bro in the pic :-) We bought one sampler, which proved to be the perfect sampling size for three people. My bro & my mom didn't care for the Hefeweizen, but otherwise we all liked the other beers, particularly the Maibock and the Skyscraper...I plan to look for the Skyscraper in stores. The brewery is cute, and on nice days you can take your sampler outside and sit at one of the tables on their patio. Nice way to end a day of wine tasting. read more

We've been to this restaurant before and had decent service. Came in on a Friday night which did not seem busy. It took 15 minutes for anyone to acknowledge that we were sitting (though we had been set by the hostess). At one point, part of our party went to the bar to order drinks. A few (3) in our party ordered the shrimp platter. The shrimp on the skewer was cold and raw. We brought this up to our sever and it was taken care of. But, obviously the kitchen staff is having some issues to not know how to cook a simple seafood dish. We had to go to the bar to get our own pitchers of water and our own drinks. At one point the bar tender did not fulfill the drink order after waiting for several minutes, so we returned to the table. She hunted us down 45 minutes later with our missing drinks, demanding we pay. This place seems very unorganized and poorly managed. I would not recommend. Very disappointing for dinners that cost over $25/person. read more

We came to Hermann on a Sunday afternoon hoping to explore the town, but we ended up staying the day at the first place we stopped! We decided to sit at the bar and our bartender, Jody, along with Joe from the service staff kept us there until the end of the day. The food and drinks were spectacular-- our favorites being the larger than life Bloody Mary, the Old Fashioned, the house Manhattan, Jody's famous Espresso Martini, and the German Sausages and German Pretzels w/ house made beer cheese. You can't go wrong here, it has everything you'd ever want for a great afternoon. The building itself is incredible; it is an old flour mill that has been converted into a beautiful new age bar and restaurant. All original interior, with an amazing staff to boot. We made our annual trip out to Hermann and soon realized that lots of places are closed on Tuesdays (guess I have never been to Hermann on a Tuesday before!). We were lucky that Tin Mill Brewing Company was still open. I'll say that I wasn't that impressed with their beers. They have four (my favorite being Midnight Whistle, which is a dark beer) and they're $6.50 for a pint, which I think is overpriced. You are also able to order wine, but their corking fee is quite a bit more (I think around $8) when compared to a place like Vintage Restaurant. So, with all of that said....we LOVED the food and service here. We had both lunch and dinner here when we came because it was so good. I would HIGHLY recommend the risotto balls. I also tried the lobster salad, which was delicious. Finally, they have a creme brulee cheesecake! The prices are a little higher than most places, but totally worth it. The bathrooms are really clean and modern, which is nice as well. Finally, both of our servers were FANTASTIC. They were super friendly and very available. Our food also came out incredibly fast. In sum, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the alcohol here, but the food is great! We will definitely be back. read more

Fun stop in Hermann for beer sampling. They typically have 5-6 brews on tap along with a root beer. I like being able to sample all or one prior to deciding on a pint. I enjoy their seasonals typically more than their standard brews, but they are all pretty good. Oddly enough, the pints here are more expensive than the bar up the way, but nonetheless, I like having the variety to try along with seeing the brew setup from behind a glass wall in the hallway by the main room. They have a nice outdoor beer garden for relaxing in warm weather months. Overall, a nice break from all the wineries in the area. read more

I rarely write reviews, and the purpose of writing this one is NOT to criticize, but to simply may suggestions. Went to Tin Mill for lunch last week. As is typical, we waited a while to be recognized for seating - BUT I totally realize this is a result of scarce workers - so that was not a problem for me. Service was a little slow, BUT again, I attribute this to a scarce workforce right now. For lunch my friend and I both chose - the fish sandwich! This could have been over the top - the fries were perfectly seasoned, warm and crunchy, not quite enough coleslaw for me, but it was good - the problem came with our sandwiches - the fish was perfectly cooked, nice crisp and hot, lettuce and tomato were both fresh and plentiful - bread - this was the downfall. It was just a typical "hoagy" type roll, but this sandwich could have been over the top for me - if the roll had been toasted or grilled. This would have taken literally a minute or two - and changed my entire meal for the better. For drinks we both had lemonade - we were seated outside and wanted to have a cool brisk lemonade! I didn't particularly expect fresh lemonade, and I am sure it wasn't, but it was lackluster. Assuming they were using a powdered product - there just wasn't enough powder to water ratio. I chose mine iced and my friend chose no ice - and they were both lackluster - so it is not likely it was just my ice melting. Don't overlook this restaurant - this is NOT intended to be a negative review - just simply comments on my meal - overall the meal was good, it just could have been so much better with some simple tweaks! read more

Will I go back? Probably not. Due to our planned lunch restaurant being closed we ended up here hungry. The menu is limited, essentially appetizers and pizza. We ordered a supreme pizza and the draft root beer (we were saving the sampling for after we ate). The pizza was average at best. It had lots of vegetables and meats but the cheese and tomato sauce were bland and the thin crust lacked flavor. The keg root beer was excellent. After we ate we decided to take the self guided tour. If you have every taken a guided tour elsewhere you can skip this tour. It is nothing more than looking at tanks and reading brief paragraphs about the beer making process. If I did not have knowledge of the process this tour would have left me with more questions than answers. We then decided to try a couple of beers. They charge $1.25 for a 5 oz. sample which is a bit of a turn-off and limited the beers we tried. It would be nice if a smaller free sample was offered just to get a taste. The Red Caboose Pilsner and First Street Wheat were tried. While these were well crafted beers they did not sit well on my palate. I found the taste differential between the two beers to be limited as both had very strong flavors. There was only one person working in the bar who also doubled as the cook. This lead to some slow service and some confusion at the bar. read more

The digs are kind of cool, in an old building a block off Main Street. AFter that, It kind of went downhill, with indifferent service, bare bones decor, very hoppy beer (not to our taste). On the plus side, it's good that Hermann has someplace to get an interesting break from the wines, the live music was good and the air conditioner worked. I wish they'd carry a few "sure things" or maybe some mixed drinks in addition to their own brews. We just didn't like their beers much. As a standard of measure, we also didn't care the the beer flight at Schlafly's in St. Louis, so these might be great beers for some. read more

Do not try to eat here on a Saturday night or anytime. The kitchen had an issue when we were there and had to shut down. Half of our party had already ordered. So then we had to get a refund so we could all go somewhere where we could all eat. Won't even comp my beer after the fiasco. This was the second year in a row that we tried to eat here and were denied. Only do a girls trip once a year here and this year I had even emailed about our group in advance. I was assured that we would have no problem having dinner here. Well that couldn't have been further from the truth. The worst part was how we were treated. The bartender/asst manager treated us just awful. One of the rudest restaurant industry employees I have ever met. This place is only good for a beer and live music. Do not bring a large group here to eat on a weekend unless you enjoy being treated awful and want to waste a lot of time and leave hungry... :( read more

Skyscraper and Red Caboose were both tasty. I tried multiple samples of beer and those were my favorite. Lisa was very accommodating. I'd recommend going to the brewery itself and not the restaurant if you're looking just for drinks. They have a great outdoor patio and appeared to have games to play. It was almost closing time on a Sunday when we stopped in so everything was packed and picked up. On the other hand, service at restaurant was slow and food was just ok. I'm from KC and we have quite a few up and coming breweries here. Having said that, Tin Mill is stellar. We went for a drink before dinner on a Saturday night and came back the next morning for another round! The first time, we each had the sample and each sample was better than the last. My boyfriend and I just looked at each other in astonishment as we tried down the line. Having said all that, I will say that we did not eat here. Atmostphere wise, they are lacking slightly. Both times we were in, we were one of two couples. The music is 80s rock (think Styx and Boston) and there are board games in the corner for amusement. Strangely, the environment seemed somewhat sterile. There wasn't a ton of personality. You can tell their focus is on making stellar beer-- not on the decor. However, their beer is stellar to say the least. That alone makes this place a solid 5 star place as far as I'm concerned. read more
