I underwent a Mako robotic-assisted hip replacement surgery with Dr. Terence Delaney at Good…read moreSamaritan hospital. Prior to surgery, my pre-operative records--including a medication list reviewed and signed on the day of surgery--documented that I had recently taken daily doses of vitamin and herbal substances that are associated with increased bleeding risk; and hospital pre-operative materials and Dr. Delaney's website recommend discontinuing them before surgery. Despite this, I did not receive any documented instructions to discontinue these substances before surgery, and I was not advised of any increased bleeding risk related to them. Nor is there any documentation showing this information was evaluated for safety considerations prior to proceeding with my elective surgery, even though these records were included in my pre-operative chart and the Pre-op/Anesthesia Home Medication List was signed before my surgery. I was also not informed of the potential risks in variation of implant positioning with Mako robotic-assisted surgery, or other procedure-related risks associated with robotic-assisted surgery.. During my procedure, my blood pressure dropped to hypotensive levels for a prolonged period of time, which can be associated with ischemic events affecting vital organs, including eyes and inner ear. Following the procedure, I also experienced significant bleeding and developed a post-operative hematoma, which required a second surgery to resolve. A few days after my procedure, I experienced partial hearing loss (later diagnosed as SSHL) and partial vision loss (later diagnosed as NAION). These conditions are associated in medical literature with ischemic events, including those related to intraoperative hypotension. Based on my medical records, this sequence raised concerns about whether my documented medication use had been fully considered before surgery or whether it may have contributed to the resulting conditions. The procedure was also performed using a Mako robotic-assisted system with a pre-planned acetabular cup component implant position. The final operative report describes a final component placement of 40°. However, post-operative imaging shows a significantly lower angle along with measurable anterior-lateral overhang. I was not informed of this difference, provided with an explanation of its potential significance, or told why there was a discrepancy between the operative report and imaging findings. Medical literature indicates that precise component positioning is essential to reduce the risk of issues such as increased component wear, edge loading, unbalanced load distribution, instability, reduced range of motion, and iliopsoas impingement. Also, key surgical documentation--such as Mako robotic system planning and verification reports--has not been provided to me after repeated requests, leaving unanswered questions about how the final implant position was determined and why Dr. Delaney did not retain these records. A review of related medical records and correspondence also shows inconsistencies, which raised additional concerns about the accuracy and completeness of the medical documentation. Additional post-operative records do not show I was informed of any unplanned interoperative events, including drops in blood pressure, possible nerve or muscle-related complications, implant position differences, how these events may have been managed, or their possible future effects. In the months following my surgery, I received treatment from numerous other physicians regarding my condition and also corresponded with Dr. Delaney regarding the surgical process and results. However, my latest email to him was unanswered, and additional efforts to obtain medical records have required formal requests through legal channels in the court system. Since the surgery, I have experienced ongoing pain, stiffness, reduced mobility, instability, and loss of range of motion, and symptoms consistent with iliopsoas impingement in my left hip. An independent orthopedic doctor confirmed the position of the acetabular cup is causing the iliopsoas impingement, which can only be resolved through a muscle release or revision procedure. I also suffer from partial hip flexor nerve/muscle issues, and vision/hearing loss, which I have been informed by medical professionals will be permanent. These issues have had a significant impact on my daily life.

This review is about my most recent experience with him and his colleague, Dr. Eliot Foad. I am a rock climber and injured my left shoulder in December 2024. I saw him shortly after and recovered through the adjustment/treatment visits and rehab exercises he prescribed. However, I re-injured it in January 2026 and had been doing rehab exercises since then with little progress. I finally went back -- I live in San Francisco, so the commute is tough! -- two weeks ago, this time for pain in my lower back. It turned out I had been straining it through poor weightlifting form. He adjusted me, advised me on what to avoid while lifting, and I felt like a new person almost immediately (though the body does take a few days to fully recover). He also suggested a novel treatment called shockwave therapy for my shoulder and elbow, where I had developed tendinitis from climbing, along with a compression arm band for use when climbing or lifting. I completed the shockwave therapy on my shoulder and elbow with Dr. Foad, who is also highly knowledgeable and a genuine pleasure to talk to. A few days later, I felt as though I had a brand-new shoulder, which allowed me to start climbing two grades above my previous level, something I had avoided out of fear of further injury. My elbow is also feeling much better, and the band has been a great help. I highly recommend both Dr. Pedersen and Dr. Foad for any sports injuries or injuries in general -- you could not be in better hands!

I honestly don't understand all the bad reviews about Golden State orthopedics…read more I came in today for the first time. I had an appointment to see Dr. Nathaniel Cohen at 1:45 pm. I showed up 1/2 hour early to fill out the paperwork and was greeted right away by one of the 3 receptionist. The receptionist also helped helped me fill out the paperwork as I had some questions. WHAT WAS GREAT ABOUT THE VISIT #1. My appointment was for 1:45 and they called me in to see the doctor right at 1:45 "no wait. "And there was like 20 people in the waiting room" #2. The doctors assistant asked me why I was there and took notes while listening intently. #3. About 15 minutes later Doctor Cohan came in after reviewing my MRI cd, the 4 page MRI write up and looking up information about my case in doctors journals as it is unusual. He then asked me to describe my pain level, what happened, what I was feeling etc,etc. He asked me questions like who is the surgeon who made the recommendation for surgery and was perplexed by what I told him because for the most part surgery is not possible. When I told him the surgeons name who made the recommendations Dr. Cohan became even more perplexed as the surgeon is a very well known and knowledgeable surgeon in the medical community. So he asked me more questions and even called the surgeon to speak with him and "unfortunately the surgeon was out of the office" try to get to the bottom of the confusion. After Dr. Cohan examined me and we spoke more, he was able to ascertain why he believed that the surgeon was recommending surgery for me and believed that if he is correct then he would also recommend getting the surgery. What struck me about Dr. Cohan was that after he had looked at the results of the MRI's and talking with me; he was not sure of a proper course of action and that he told me that he did not know everything. "Now to me this is a sign of a great doctor who is also humble" (instead of coming to a conclusion and possibly giving me misinformation, (like my GP) he chose to say I don't know!, now that's a good doctor!!!) He told me to make another appointment with the surgeon and wrote down for me what to ask him specifically. He then said that if the surgeon confirmed what Dr. Cohan told me to ask him, that I should have the surgery performed. (Here is an Orthopedic surgeon telling me that the other surgeon is more capable to perform this specific surgery... I mean wow!) All I got to say is Dr. Cohan obviously cares about his patients!!! Dr. Cohan, you are the best!! Thank you for your kindness, bedside manner, honesty, compassion and concern for your patients. #4. He even gave me a referral to another GP!! And told me to call him if I had other questions about anything. 5 stars is an understatement! Everything about this office is 5 stars including the receptionist. Again I really don't understand the bad reviews.

Cohen has great bedside manner & it's just an overall nice person as is Dr. King. The office even has x-ray and MRI on site which is helpful. However, after a recent injury, I was referred to Dr. Kim. I don't know if this guy was having a bad day but he was rude, non responsive & left in the middle of my appointment, even though he was an hour late. He was so condescending during the appointment & off putting that his nurse had to apologize on his behalf. He just walked out of the room, as I was asking questions about the injury and never reappeared. My fiancé who attended even said there's no way that guy is operating you, if that's how he acts during an appointment. The challenge with the office staff is getting a response. There are a number of other reviews for the same location and majority are around gaps in response or complete lack of response. I ignored those comments and went back to what I trusted and now know they were justified. I don't know what happened to this practice, but do not go. There are other orthopedic surgeons in the Bay Area, who are great, care about follow up and the overall outcome for their patients. I wish Dr. Cohen and Dr. King would leave this office because there's no way it's getting any more of my business. Now, in the middle of an injury where I was getting treatment from this facility, I'm now having to go to a different orthopedic surgeon.

I received no email or comms from my doctor, the management team nor was I given any guidance on next steps in switching doctors. This is unacceptable. I should have been proactively notified and should have been made aware of my options ASAP. I called and texted the office several times to speak to Dr. Gorman about my experience but did not receive a call back. Instead, I received an impersonal, cold and sterile letter a few days later notifying me that I needed to find another doctor. I would not recommend this practice to anyone given the sloppy nature of my situation was managed- it's completely unacceptable.

Dr. Mehta did an x-ray that found no arthritis or bone spurs. She recommended PT type exercises. She said it was a minor tear and didn't recommend surgery that could possibly make it worse over time and cause arthritis. I did the exercises religiously for a month and took a prescription anti-inflammatory for a week. For years I continued to play tennis and pickleball with no recurring discomfort as long as I did the exercises three times a week. As I approach 80 years old (now I walk/hike/bike ride instead of court sports) I still have no issues with the knee. And a study recently came out saying meniscus surgery has proven to cause a worsening of the tear and painful arthritis. THANK YOU Dr. Mehta for protecting and improving my life.

I went to see Dr. Pamela Mehta as an out-of-network patient because I was in severe pain in my hip/pelvis area and wanted help quickly. Unfortunately, the visit was one of the most disappointing and unprofessional medical experiences I have had. Before the appointment, I was asked to get an X-ray. At the visit, Dr. Mehta looked at the X-ray and told me it looked fine. When I pointed to the exact area where I had pain, she seemed unsure whether the issue was my hip, rib, abdomen, intestines, or pelvis. That alone was concerning, but what concerned me most was that there was essentially no physical examination at all. She did not ask me to perform any movements, did not test range of motion, did not ask me to lift my leg, did not examine my gait, and did not physically evaluate the painful area. I explained that the pain felt bone-related and became worse when standing on my left foot, but there was still no meaningful hands-on evaluation. Instead, she ordered an MRI and recommended ibuprofen. The MRI was then denied by insurance more than once. Based on the denial explanation I received, the medical necessity was not documented adequately, and the clinical reasoning submitted does not appear to have matched my actual symptoms. Weeks later, the issue is still unresolved, and the office seemed unclear about the peer-to-peer process and the status of the authorization. The whole reason I paid out of network was that I was in serious pain and needed timely, competent care. Instead, I left with no clear diagnosis, no real exam, an MRI request that insurance rejected, and weeks of delay. This is exactly the kind of experience that makes patients lose trust in medical providers: a quick visit, little actual evaluation, an expensive out-of-network bill, and poor follow-through when the authorization fails. When I later went to the office to ask what was going on, the interaction became even more concerning. I was frustrated, but I was there because I had paid for care and still had no answer. During that office interaction, Dr. Mehta initially said something along the lines of reimbursing me so I would leave. She says there was a "well documented physical exam." That does not match my experience in the room. I was not asked to perform meaningful movement testing, range-of-motion testing, gait evaluation, leg raise testing, or any hands-on examination of the painful area. Claiming after the fact that a complete exam occurred does not change what I experienced as the patient. She also claims law enforcement was contacted because of "threatening behavior." I strongly reject that characterization. No law enforcement ever showed up, and from my perspective, the 911 threat was used to intimidate me and reframe a legitimate patient complaint as a safety issue in front of other patients and staff. Anthem/Blue Cross deemed that my patient responsibility was only .63 cents, so the insurance company sent a payment to Allied in the amount of $3,793.67 in December 2024 and now Allied's patient services/billing department refuses to refund my credit card for this amount. Not only did Allied keep my money, but they are also pocketing money from Anthem, which has been deemed fraudulent by Anthem and they are now engaging in an investigation into Allied. Save yourself the emotional turmoil and run arounds, and just go elsewhere. Hard lesson learned on my part. EDIT: Anthem/Blue Cross' Grievances Department just mailed the attached letter on January 10, 2025 stating that I am due a refund of $3,793.67 and my financial responsibility is $.63 cents. A MERRY CHRISTMAS REVIEW!…read more Even though I'm still in the middle of my treatment and awaiting further surgery, I just wanted to stop by and give some much deserved love to Dr. Patrick Polsunas and the staff at Allied Pain & Spine in Los Gatos. Prior to my vehicle being struck by a red light runner at high speed, I was never really sick very much, and didn't have any illnesses or major injuries. Most of my life living as an athlete and personal trainer, I had no real need to see a doctor except for the regular annual check-up. But now for the first time finding my self as a partially crippled person, it's been depressing at times. So, to have a rare and wonderful doctor like Dr. Polsunas who not only goes above and beyond for his patients, but is actually extremely caring and does whatever he can to fight along side you, so that you can achieve the maximum healing that you deserve, it's a blessing.
