I was a regular customer when this was Tinga, and it was one of my favorite local Mexican restaurants. Unfortunately, the transition to Tinga e Tikka has been a major disappointment. While they've kept much of the original name and decor, nearly every aspect of the menu has changed, and in my opinion, not for the better. The authentic Mexican dishes that made Tinga stand out have been replaced with a fusion concept that simply doesn't deliver the same quality, flavor, or overall dining experience. What was once a reliable destination for great Mexican food now feels like an entirely different restaurant hiding behind the old brand. What pushed me to write this review, however, wasn't just the menu change. Despite not having visited in nearly two years, I've been receiving a steady stream of promotional text messages. I've replied multiple times explaining that I never agreed to receive marketing texts and asking to be removed from their list, yet the messages continue. There is a big difference between marketing to current customers and repeatedly texting someone who intentionally stopped patronizing the business years ago. Using customer contact information in this way feels intrusive and disrespectful. If the goal is to win back former customers, ignoring repeated requests to stop texting is probably the worst possible approach. I miss the original Tinga. The food that brought me there is gone, and the continued unwanted marketing only reinforces my decision not to return. read more

Tingas continues to deliver the quality and probably the best value in Westfield. Normally, i wouldnt order quesadilla because they are too simple, but the chicken quesadilla here rocks! The chicken is so tender and flavorful, with a crispy and soft tortilla, it has to be tried here. However they are marinating the chicken, it works well. The portions are large enough that most of the entrees have enough to take home for lunch the next day. Service is always friendly and the food comes out fast. Went to Tinga for some dinner and the food was very good and authentic. We ordered the jalapeño poppers and chicken and vegetable soup for appetizers. For dinner we got the carne asada burrito and steak quesadilla which I did not get to take photos of because we were so hungry! The jalapeño poppers and soup were delicious and the steak was charred and very tasty. The chips with different salsas and guacamole were delicious as well. I recommend the tinga salsa! For dessert we got xangos and churros which were both delicious. Maybe a little less caramel on the churros would be even better to taste its crispiness. Came for dinner on a Saturday with two people. Chips and salsa for the table were stale. Food came quick but was cold when arrived. Both meals also tasted bland. Wow. Zero stars. Bad food. WAY overpriced. Skimped on ingredients. False advertisement. I literally have never written a bad review before, but my experience today was just terrible. Also, I assume the owner will respond with a passive aggressive insult, as it seems he has no interest in bettering his business, but instead seems to think all of his customers are the problem but I digress. Before I get into the details of my terrible food experience, I would like to say that my waiter was very nice and I believe did the best with what he had. But beyond that, everything was terrible. After passing so many beautiful and interesting restaurants in Westfield, my husband and I decided to give Tinga a try because of the "Taco Tuesday" sign, which advertised $2.50 tacos, and well, it was Tuesday! We sat down, and when I inquired about the Taco Tuesday special, the waiter looked very confused and asked "where did you see that?". I explained it was on the sign outside. He ignored this (but I've attached a picture of the sign here) and just said they aren't offering this but might in the future...Instead, their menu price for 2 tacos was somewhere around $15-17. My husband decided to get the catfish tacos anyway, and they were bland and soggy. I got empanadas, which were the worst empanadas I have ever ever ever had. Overall, everything had somewhat of a weird/ off flavor. Either that or just bland. My "beef" empanada dough had a sweet/ cinnamon/ cumin flavor and was almost like a pancake batter consistency, very doughy, so strange. The inside was like 10% beef, 90% watery tomatoes and peas??? It was just bad. Flavor (what little there was) was just so so off. We are both currently sick to our stomachs, literally. and I've seen other reviews that say the same. The reviews that mention the restaurant being dirty are true. I honestly have never had a worst meal in my life. I'm angry with myself for eating any of it, we just felt so embarrassed to say anything in the moment after sitting down. I hope the owner takes the bad reviews as constructive criticism and tries to improve rather than arguing with all of the people who would be happy to give him business if he ran an honest and good restaurant. The food is always great in my opinion, super delicious and satisfying with GREAT portion sizes (you will most likely be taking some leftovers home with you). My family comes here to celebrate birthdays sometimes because it was a go-to restaurant for Mexican food when I was growing up. I have in-laws in Arizona, so I've had plenty of Mexican food - the REAL stuff - so I had that background informing my experience at Tinga. Straight off the bat, I was appalled at the chips and salsa. When I said no love earlier? Their chips were clearly Tostito's, and the salsa Pace. Probably bulk items purchased at Costco. I ate a few and decided I wouldn't insult my intelligence, no matter how hungry I felt. Oh, yeah, they had the chips in an open bowl positioned below the cash register, a foot or two off the filthy ground. Probably had something to do with my bowel issue I suffered after eating here. Next, the main course. I had a quesadilla with sauteèd spinach, onions and garlic. Sounded good in theory, but what I received was a soggy quesadilla with half melted cheese. I was starving, so I had a few bites, but decided I couldn't eat any more. Check, please. The interior was unadulterated kitsch that had an ugly charm to it. Lots of doo-dads and thingamajigs all over the walls. You could tell it never got cleaned, though; the carpets were as greasy as the food. The service was entirely satisfactory and not a bit above. The bare minumum was achieved; nothing more. Fine, 20% tip, I guess. The chefs looked dirty and like they were depressed to be there. I felt sorry for them. It was a good place for lunch. We went there on a Friday. We were seated right away. They also have some seats outdoor. The ambiance is good and server was nice too. As normal we were started with some chips and salsa right away. We ordered a bunch of dishes, I ordered GRILLED VEGETABLE TACOS. The tacos were in double shells which I thought was weird, although it tasted good. Still, I would have preferred one shell. The extra tortilla made the taco slightly milder. After dressing it up with the salsa and some hot sauce they were good. The other dishes were good too. The food was good and the people were nice. Honestly I was very excited to eat here. I have crossed it a number of times and it always seemed like the perfect dinner place . Dinner was very underwhelming . Ordered empanadas, a bowl and chicken and beef tacos. My tacos had the same filling as the empanadas, so that means my taco had carrot and peas in it. The chicken taco was bland and dry... soooo dry. The chips were not fresh, I saw them lying in a box and being served from there. For a Mexican restaurant I would say the flavor was missing, it was all way to bland. I have walked past here a few times and finally decided to try it. And was underwhelmed. The staff was very friendly and attentive but the food was lacking. The salsa that was served with chips tasted like tostitos jar salsa with just pickled jalapeños thrown in. I ordered tacos al pastor and a side of rice and beans. The beans needed seasoning, the rice was okay. The tacos however were served greasy and flimsy. They were described as crispy & I personally would have preferred them to just be lightly toasted. But they were fried and I ended up taking the meat out and not ha vaunt the tortilla. The meat was very well seasoned and had great flavor. There needed to be more cilantro and onion inside of the taco, there was barely any. My wife and I try to visit Westfield restaurants at least 2 times a week and we're always on the look out for "undiscovered gems" that we can share with our friends and family. Tinga has a dining experience unlike anything you'll find in Westfield with great prices and large portions. 3 reasons to visit Tinga: 1) Great ambiance. For the second you walk into the restaurant, it's almost like you are taking a trip to Mexico. The walls are bright and colorful and lined with lit Jalapenos. Definitely something different than your normal Westfield Restaurant. 2) Bang for your Buck! You get a lot of delicious Mexican food for your peso... I mean dollar! You can easily do dinner with appys for under $60 3) Quick and friendly service. Our server refilled our drinks without us asking, and anticipated our needs before we knew we need them. The Tacos are served in an outer hard corn tortilla with a soft flour tortilla on the inside. I suggest taking them out of the hard tortillas and just ate them with the soft. It's a lot easier to manage. They don't skimp on the amount of meat inside each taco. Every bite had just the right amount to balance against the other complementary tastes inside. The Veggie tacos were HUGE. I recommend asking them to fill the inside of the taco with less, and then giving you an extra side of the veggies. My wife had a hard time managing to get a bite of the tacos without getting lettuce everywhere. We skipped dessert in favor of grabbing a drink before exploring the new Cinemark theater in Watchung. The burritos are okay. I'd say comparable to Chipotle or Qdoba (both of which are located really close by). BUT the prices are a lot higher (if you don't come at lunch). I'd expect a decent tasting burrito for the price premium. On the positive side, the chicken burrito does come with a generous serving of chicken. But it is a very dry burrito... they should serve it with salsa. Lunch special prices are not bad. I'd only return for the lunch special, but then again I may just go to Chipotle/ Qdoba instead. Seeing the previous reviews, I'm really surprised that my girlfriend and I enjoyed this place as much as we did today. We had passed by before and filed it under one of those "Maybe another time." things on the way to Trader Joe's. Today we sat down and had a wonderful lunch here. The decor is a lot of wood and tin plating that looks like it came from an old building. One wall has a large mural painted on it with influence from Mexican folk art. We sat by the window where there's a bench with a nice cushioned seat and several tables. The rest of the restaurant has tables going back in several rows, easily seating about twenty plus people. The rest room was quite large and had a beautiful molding around the door along with very clean and well kept facilities. Kudos to the decor and atmosphere. It's comfortable, festive without being overwhelming. We were seated and taken care of very quickly. The servers all seemed to be locals so they spoke English just fine and seemed eager to please. We were checked on at least twice during the meal. Being hungry, we ordered fast. My girlfriend had the spinach and beef salad while I had the "low carb" chicken with sauteed spinach side. We also ordered their guacamole with nachos. You're given nachos with salsa as soon as you settle in. Overall, it was quite a bit of food! The nachos are addicting. Fresh and salted with sea salt, we wound up devouring our entire basket. The guacamole was super fresh and tasty, with nice big chunks of avocado in it. My chicken was well seasoned and tender, and I added a bit of kick using the red and green habanero sauces on the table. The spinach was nice and bright and tasted great with onion and garlic. Cheese was melted on top, giving it an extra dimension of flavor. My girlfriend's beef was tender and also well seasoned, but I preferred my chicken. Note: while we sat there, at least three people came in for take out and three other tables had gathered outside. Everyone who came in seemed to be a regular as they seemed very familiar with the staff, that tends to breed confidence for me when trying a restaurant for the first time. It seems the other reviews here are not so positive to "ok" for this place, but my girlfriend and I both agree it's a place we really enjoyed and intend to visit again. I just love this place. Never disappoints when you're having a serious burrito craving. It's fast, it's fresh, and the portions are enough to fill you for the rest of the day. So many vegetarian options so you don't feel limited to a couple items (even the nachos grande come with vegetarian chili unless you request meat). I've had so many things in the menu and have never been disappointed, although I'm extra partial to the Californian burrito. Although we have never dined in, my family frequently order's food for takeout. Overall we have been satisfied with the food quality. This is more of a healthy take on Mexican cuisine in my opinion, so you have to go in with the expectation that it is not the most authentic Mexican food. The flavors are pretty good and although the delivery has had some hiccups, they are always smoothed over. Once I went to Tinga and I ordered a cheese quesadilla. I was with a friend and her mother (this was many years ago). Before I ate, I noticed that there seemed to be rice involved in this quesadilla. What an unexpected surprise. I have never had a quesadilla with rice in it. It was a good first time. Furthermore, just wanted to talk about how the hostess is an absolute doll.
