I took in two pair of jeans (one brand-new, one vintage) for alteration. The new pair just needed to be hemmed. I specified ORIGINAL HEM. They weren't embellished and didn't have difficult seams or finishes and they charged me $75 to hem and the original hem wasn't applied. I called them twice while I was waiting for them to be done (I wanted to remind them, because it was prom season and they were busy). the woman on the phone said "We always do original hem" but I didn't get original hem back and now the jeans look cheaply made (the hem is also crooked). The other pair is a vintage pair of Calvin Klein jeans that I bough a size too large so they could be tailored to my body. They charged me $100 for those, which also seemed steep but I paid it. When I went to pick them up, it's like no one had actually touched the jeans. I tried them on again for them to correct it and was specific when the attendant was pinning them. I still don't think they were done, because now it looks like I have saddlebags because they were never taken in on the hips where I showed. I have now paid almost $200 for two pair of jeans to be altered that weren't what asked for; getting it fixed at another tailor will mean even more money spent. I will continue my search in Chicago for someone who can make basic alterations to clothing. Not removing/adjusting seams or dealing with challenging fabric-just 100% cotton fabric. with basic hem or just taking inches in along the side seams. Basic tailoring shouldn't cost so much or be this hard.

First of all the shirt is couture, and was not remotely cheap, and has only been worn a hand full of times. Secondly I don't care if the shirt was from Walmart, if we take it to get dry cleaned without a hole and then get it back and the arm of the shirt is ripped with a huge hole that's beyond repair I'd expect an apology or an offer to fix it AT THE VERY LEAST. This was not done. In fact they blamed my husband. We have been in this neighborhood for a long time and will make sure to tell all of our neighbors to never go here. My dress was a way too big in some places and snug in others but also had a lot of detailing that makes it difficult to hem or alter. I was very stressed about getting it altered. On my first appointment, Niki walked me through everything she was going to do step by step and explained in detail what it was going to look like and answered all of my 1 million questions on what she was going to cut, what she wasn't going to cut where she was going to buttons, etc. Throughout the process, she happily addressed all my concerns at every appointment. You can tell Niki takes great pride in her work and I love that. It fits me like a glove now and I'm thrilled with how it came out! The people at this shop are so warm and friendly and make you feel right at home. I would absolutely recommend them to anyone who needs a dress altered. Mine felt like it was going to be impossible to get right because of the details and construction of the dress but Niki really came through. Just make sure you bring in your clothes with plenty of time to alter because Niki cares deeply about the quality of her work and she won't want to do a sloppy rush job on your garments!
