Hudson (adopted at 11 months from Almost Home Foundation)
    Teddy M.

Almost Home Foundation is the quintessential place to find your rescue. I just adopted my little guy and the adoption process from beginning to end was beyond amazing. Gianna my adoption coordinator went above and beyond to ensure each concern was addressed, the process explained thoroughly and communicated so effectively. There is such a sense of family and community at Almost Home Foundation and the care they take for each dog & cat is exceptional. I have told all of my friends & family about them and love how they go beyond to help each animal in their care. Gianna's compassion and kindness for how she made the process seamless can't go unnoticed. Almost Home Foundation exceeds the mark!!!

We adopted our cat Pearl from Almost Home Foundation in March 2025. After we submitted the application, AHF sent emails keeping us updated with the status of the application and what the next steps would be. When it came time to meet Pearl, AHF Sheila met with us at the foster's home. Pearl was extremely shy and anxious so we weren't able to really interact with her. We still wanted to bring her home and give her a chance to have a forever home. Sheila recommended foster to adopt to ensure that Pearl would feel comfortable with us and that she was a good fit for our family as well. We knew that we would do anything to help her feel at ease with us as long as it took. But it was nice to know that if she really did not feel at home, she would go back to the fosters (in a safe environment). During the six-week foster to adopt time, Sheila maintained contact with us checking in with Pearl and to see if we needed anything. At Pearl's official adoption, Sheila had all the adoption documents ready, a goodie bag for Pearl, and a knitted blanket (donated by a volunteer). We could tell that Sheila really cared about Pearl and her wellbeing. She even asked us to send her updates after the adoption as she likes to see their adoptions' progress with the families. If you are looking to adopt, foster to adopt, or foster, check out AHF! They are a great group of staff and volunteers that really care about their cats and dogs.

We adopted Barney (aka Douglas) 6 months ago and we cannot image our lives without him. AHF is a great organization and Gianna was super helpful. She assisted with all of our questions and concerns and made the adoption process seamless. All known "illnesses" were told to us up front. AHF also worked around my schedule to get Barney neutered. Gianna checks in every now and then which means a lot to us as it shows us that they really do care about the animals. If we ever choose to foster or adopt again, AHF would be my first choice.

    Puppy

Love everyone on the team. Especially Gianna and Kelly. They are so thorough and helpful With the adoption process. They save so many animals and the animals are always so taken care of! I adopted a beautiful puppy from there

    Ellie and Cady

As we prepare to celebrate Ellie's birthday this month, we couldn't be more grateful to have her in our family. About a year ago, after hearing recommendations from friends and colleagues, we chose to visit Almost Home to find a companion for our other dog. We met with Gianna to visit a dog we had seen online. As advised, we brought our dog to the meeting to make sure she'd get along with this new dog. When that meeting didn't go so well, the staff on site that day knew that Ellie (formerly Madonna) would be just perfect for all of us. Ellie wasn't the dog we planned to see; she wasn't even on our list. Ellie turned out to be the best surprise, though! She is the most gentle, loving pup! Gianna and another staff member took the time to introduce Ellie to our dog and really make sure they'd get along. They then allowed us to spend the entire afternoon with the dogs, making sure we were also a good family for sweet Ellie. We wanted to bring Ellie home that night, but upon realizing they were sending her home with tons of new toys, a large crate, and a large bag of food and treats, we just couldn't make it all fit. We chose to bring all her things home and have her new home ready for her arrival. The next day, another volunteer from the shelter went out of her way to drive Ellie 45 minutes to our house! After the official adoption, Ellie settled in perfectly! Gianna kept in touch with us (and still does on occasion) to make sure Ellie is doing well. We can't imagine our lives without this sweet dog! We are so grateful for the kindness and the expertise provided by Almost Home. They knew exactly the dog who we needed in our lives, and they knew exactly the family Ellie needed. It's sure a good feeling knowing that the many dogs who are rescued by this foundation are so carefully placed into the loving homes they all deserve!

We adopted our dog Dorothy from AHF three years ago, and we can't imagine life without her! The volunteers are all so helpful and really care about the dogs going to good homes. They do a home check and have you foster for a short time before finalizing an adoption to make sure it's a good fit. Urszula and Gianna are the best! Gianna even got Dorothy a Christmas present the year after we got her and asks me for updates on how she's doing.

    Tazzie Baby

I found my sweetheart kitty from Almost Home. The foundation made everything clear and up front. They were there for me every step in the adoption process. I love my baby, her name is Tazzie Baby. She's had all her shots and is already spayed.

This is our sweet angel Nala. She's a lab mix and we just adore her. She's a true gift that Almost Home Foundation blessed us with.

We can't thank Gianna and the Almost Home Foundation enough for pairing us with the perfect addition to our family. The process for us to adopt our sweet Nala was exceptionally easy and seamless. I felt that they did a good job of vetting us to insure we were a good candidate which brought me comfort knowing they care so much about the animals they place. Gianna even continued to follow up to ensure that the placement went smoothly. If I could give ten stars I would. Thanks again Almost Home Foundation.

    Mr. Finley
    Kristen W.

Almost Home Foundation is a wonderful place that has the best volunteers around! We had been wanting to add a dog to our family and were going to wait till after our wedding, but when we saw Finley's post come up on Facebook my now husband and I knew we had found the pup for us. AHF travels all over to take in dogs from some terrible living situations and cases of neglect and abuse. Our Finley came from Alabama and although he's a nutso Auss-Border collie mix who prides himself on causing mischief, runs around all day with one of his many rubber chicken toys, still is too wired to calm down to get along with our cats, one look at at his big blue eyes will get him forgiven of just about anything. The people at AHF are the heart and soul of the operation. We had many questions throughout the first couple of months and Gianna was always just a text or Facebook message away to be of any assistance at all! Kim and the trainer from the Sunday afternoon training classes have been awesome at helping get Finley socialized and start his training process. I really applaud them for doing home checks and letting people foster to adopt to be able to make sure that the dog is the right one for you. Keep up the good fight AHF!!

    Our AHF pups

We loved working with AHF! We fostered a few dogs through them & eventually adopted two into our own family. Now our house is full or we'd still be fostering. AHF is so easy to work with & really care for every single animal. We recommend them to every person we meet looking for a dog or a cat. They listen to your household's needs & match you up with the perfect animal for your family. If you're fostering, you get to know the animal the best so you get a lot of say in where it goes to live it's best life. We can't recommend AHF enough.

A great completely volunteer run organization! Giana was awesome in coordinating our meeting with Rusty aka Cornelius and helping us to make sure it was a good match with our dog Benji. Gerry coordinated all of our Vet appointments and she was a lifesaver helping me out since I currently don't have a vehicle. She volunteered to pick us up and take us to Rusty's appointments. Both of them have checked in to make sure Rusty's transition to his new home is going well. Which it is! We love him so much and are so grateful to Almost Home Foundation for hooking us up with the newest member of our family!

Mm-hmm!…read more Since I moved to Roselle a year ago, I've been driving myself out to distant Goodwill locations and other assorted retail shops while overlooking this gem right nearby. Actually, I did know it was here, but I had poor experiences at other Salvation Army locations and didn't want to come here. A few months ago, I stopped in this location on a whim to drop off some donations and ended up being kind of impressed! It's one of the largest, sunniest, and most organized Salvation Army stores I've ever seen. Every section is clearly labeled by a sign hanging from the ceiling. The clothes are organized by colors and styles. The employees are actually friendly. And the prices!? LOW! Yeah, some things smell "old," there's a bit of dust in the air, some of the aisles are quite narrow, and some things seem kind of broken (I would recommend staying away from the toys and electronics), but it doesn't bother me. Somewhere in the midst of all of this, there is treasure to be found! While the clothes are a bit worn down and more along the line of spring break t-shirts than designer tops, this is my jam for last-minute grabs. Although I probably won't be filling my closets with clothes from Salvation Army, this is a good spot for pick up some clothes that can be dirty, items for homemade costumes, knick knacks, and furniture that you can upcycle. I am, however, currently wearing a pair of pajama pants that I bought here (don't worry, I washed them first). Oh, and as Candice mentioned in her recent review, the couches here are awesome. I found myself wandering around the dozens of couches, wondering if there was any chance that my husband would be willing to drop a few bucks on a new (and unnecessary) addition to our living room. There were so many to choose from and they weren't icky at all! We haven't found the perfect couch or armchair yet but I'm keeping my eyes peeled. By the way, donations are accepted at the Salvation Army truck in the parking lot of Nerge Road. I don't understand why donations are accepted this way, but hey, it's for a good cause. And it works.

Every piece of my gutter he replaced, still leaks and the gutters overflow worse than they did before he touched them. I reached out to him and received an excuse about him having health issues. He said he'd be back out to resolve the issues. That was March 2nd, 2026. I haven't seen Bob, but I do see posts stating he's been working on other homes. The disrespect is amazing. You talk with others while there: The "Social Worker " is not certified from what I was told. Rolando, is USELESS. He says he will help find a place once the patient is leaving. He DID NOT. We had to push, ask questions, meet, etc. NOTHING was really offered. He finally said he had phone numbers to give us. That piece of paper with 10 facilities on it, was USELESS. I found 2 to be possibilities but those didn't pan out. On most, there is no distinction which are rehab, asst living, nursing. WHY THEY HIRE SOMEONE in this position, I do NOT understand. Anyone can hand out a paper or cards and leave if up to the family. He DID NOT make call/connections for us. He did tell us that they have info for those WHO CAN PAY which I figure is probably their 1st or 2nd floor residents. BE CAREFUL as Rolando will have an exit date. IF it is NOT reasonable, speak up. He was going to send MOM home by AMBULANCE as she was not mobile. I asked what we do once she arrives. He then changed the date. She was able to walk with assistance when she left on a later date. So, the patient is treated well, and rehab is good. IF you have lots of money to cover for residence afterwards, it's probably OK. However, there are even NICER places if you search ALDEN, Arbor Terrace in Naperville, Sunrise, some of the Heritage Woods, Asbury Gardens, Victory Center of Bartlett. Research and find one.
