I have been wanting to try this place ever since it took over Tani's spot. There are things I really missed from Tani's but the "new" replacement is lovely addition to our neighborhood too. It is still a tiny shop. This place only has sushi on the menu. It is the perfect spot to grab a deluxe lunch on the rare glorious September-in-March/April weather here in Daly City. Price is definitely on the expensive side. But I guess it also reflects the changes here in Daly City too. Tani used to be the only Japanese restaurant in the Westlake shopping center and now we have 3 Japanese restaurants including Tiny Sushi! I ordered the famous Sushi Box. My biggest surprise is not the quality of the fish (frankly I expect to be good when I am paying this much), but I was impressed by the sushi rice and the seaweed!! I really like how they seasoned the sushi rice here. Oh, and they don't use the typical yaki nori, but I was served with seaweed sheet that is similar to Gamtae (the Korean seaweed that has a moss-like texture). Only my pre-diabetics body made me stop from finishing the whole Sushi Box all by myself. It's so delicious and satisfying. The Baby sushi Box is definitely meant to be shared :) If you are Daly City residents who have a strong craving for some decent quality sushi/specialty's rolls but don't want to drive into the city, this place is definitely worth a visit. I showed up a couple minutes early for my to-go and the waitstaff was so kind and gave me a small bite + miso soup to shake the cold off. It consists of a box served with a mix of premium sashimi which includes uni, kokkaido scallops, seared salmon toro, crab meat, ikura (salmon fish eggs), and sushi rice. Make sure to ask for some seaweed where you can take a piece of seaweed, put some rice and sashimi over for a nice bite! The deluxe chirashi bowl is also a good choice which more sashimi fish selections. All the rolls are solid too and I specifically enjoy the Angry Fish. I will say the chirashi bowl is quite large but contains high quality fish and the rice was wonderfully seasoned. In preparation of going to Japan, my boyfriend wanted to have an omakase experience. He's not the biggest into sushi, but wanted to see if it would be palatable for him in Japan. It was great finding this spot that allowed him to experience it without breaking the bank ($60.95 for 10 piece omakase). We arrived right at opening on a Sunday, and were seated almost instantly. It's a very small restaurant, with three 2-people tables and 4 bar seats, but it allows very a very tight-knit experience. The waiter was very attentive, and he helped make our experience a memorable one. Since they were still setting up, they gave us a complimentary edamame appetizer, which perhaps was the most tender edamame I've ever had. With the omakase, they provided us with a small salad with their homemade roasted sesame dressing. I was raving about the dressing, wanting to just eat it by itself because it was so delicious. Then the omakase came out in an absolutely stunning display, laid out in a 3x3 box. The waiter walked us through the box, directing us where to begin and what to expect with every sushi. My favorites were the sweet shrimp and tuna toro, but everything was delicious. We both left feeling very satisfied, as it was just enough food for each of us. At the end, I was able to order a bottle of matcha IPA to go, since it caught my eye but I wasn't keen on drinking at the restaurant.
