    Black cod miso yaki
    Rose C.

Came in on a weekday evening, though this casual restaurant was busy, we were able to get seated right away. The first server was very nice. The other servers throughout the meal were cordial. There were so many choices on the menu that we wanted to try. We went with: the chicken katsu curry (very flavorful and delicious), black code miso yaki (very good though a bit small portion), hamachi sashimi (very fresh and smooth), mixed tempura (the coating was light and crunchy), the double toro roll (so good, fresh, a new fave), the takoyaki (another fave! So much flavor and texture in that small bite), and the spider roll (unfortunately, one of our least enjoyable item of the night. It was bland, seemed like the unagi sauce was missing). But overall, a totally enjoyable meal!

Stopped by here for a friend to celebrate their birthday, had a reservation at 7:45, and ended up a few minutes late, but it wasn't too packed so we were able to get seats relatively quickly. I had been meaning to come here for a while, but never had the chance so I was pretty excited to try the place out. The place is cozy, there are tables on one side and a sorta of deeper table on the other where you sort of sit into the seat, a bit different than sitting at a table, but adds to a more intimate experience. I had a quick beer before my friend showed up, and it was indeed refreshing. I looked over the menu and instantly saw the treasure box, which I've seen on the Yelp page, and we both ordered that. We didn't ask for the item menus, as my friend had been here multiple times and just told me to dig in. I started with the monk fish liver, and wow oh wow, I'm not a fan of liver at all, but the way they cooked this was fab-u-lous! The steamed egg following it was refreshing, and then just eating each piece of sashimi and sushi was amazing. Every item tasted super fresh and had the right amount of flavor, so I didn't need to add anything extra. It was an amazing experience, and for the price point, I will definitely be coming back!

    Assorted Tempura

Loved the tempura! It was super light and crunchy. It was not greasy at all and came out piping fresh. The rolls were also solid. The Ichika roll stood out to me the most. It definitely had a kick to it. The warriors roll was good, but the flavor was not memorable. The eel avocado roll was good for a basic roll. I like that they have a thick fish to rice ratio. Sauces aren't overpowering. The rolls are on the smaller side overall. Service was okay. It felt a bit rushed. We did arrive 30 min before closing for lunch.

Great little neighborhood spot that is SO good, super fresh fish and all around tasty menu. Never disappoints, have come back here for both dine-in and takeout. Parking quite easy with the lot out front. Docked one star off just because it's a bit pricey. But I come back when I want to splurge a little hehe. Also great service!

We've been here so many times with friends and for date night - consistently a solid choice from the food to the service. One of the items we always get is the treasure box. Out of all the treasure boxes I've had, this is the best. It's a mix of deluxe items such as the oysters, chawanmush (our baby loved this), skewers, sashimi and nigiris. Truly a great value. Other items we order are uni and hotate nigiris - always fresh. They're also child friendly which is a plus. Parking is easy and everyone is nice.

I highly recommend this spot for fresh sushi and fantastic, friendly service. I've been here twice now, and both times the sushi rolls came out beautifully presented and tasted even better. If you come around 8pm, you likely won't have to wait long since the dinner rush tends to slow down by then. Some of the best seats are near the entrance where you can watch the sushi chefs preparing the food. When we arrived, the staff brought complimentary edamame for the table while we looked over the menu. I appreciate when edamame isn't overloaded with salt, and they did a great job keeping it simple and flavorful. I love spicy food, so my friend and I split the spicy tuna roll, the hot girl roll, and the baked scallop roll. Each one was delicious, but the hot girl roll was my favorite. It's topped with spicy tuna and jalapeños and had the perfect kick. The baked scallop roll came out hot and gooey, covered in a sweet garlic sauce that paired really well with the scallops. The restaurant is also vegetarian-friendly, which is one of the reasons we chose it. My partner ordered the avocado maki, veggie dragon roll, and the futo maki. His favorite was the veggie dragon roll, which includes avocado and eggplant. The futo maki wasn't as much of a hit for him, but that may just be because he's not a big fan of radish. Overall, I'd definitely recommend this place for the quality of the food and the welcoming service. It's located in a small shopping center with its own parking lot, which is a big plus since you don't have to worry about finding street parking.

The ambiance here is very nice and I have enjoyed most of the dishes I have tried. Recently I came for a friend's birthday dinner and ordered the beef curry, which unfortunately was not my favorite. There was much more sauce than beef and the meat was extremely chewy and not cut into smaller, easy to eat pieces. It made the dish a bit tedious to eat and overall it was too salty for my taste. I should have gone with the chicken katsu instead. I did try it and it pairs much better flavor wise with the rest of the menu and it is also properly cut. The ribs are good, although they are not very filling since there is more bone than meat. The assorted tempura is a great appetizer and definitely something I would order again. The atmosphere is beautiful and very elegant. We were lucky this time and were seated in the back area of the restaurant with regular chairs. In the past I have been seated toward the front where the seating is much lower.

Love love love Ichika Sushi house! I've been eating here for years and has become a special place for me and girlfriend. It's not an exaggeration when I say everything I've eaten here was great. The quality of fish is top tier and the rolls they have are unique and creative. They even have a great fresh wasabi My go orders are the Chirashi bowl and also the sake don. For the rolls I love the double toro and mango roll. Inside it's very cozy they even have a couple booths that look very traditional. Love they serve tea and edamame to customers. They have a small parking lot so parking isn't usually an issue. 5/5 and A+ across the board for Ichika Sushi House

3.5 stars Small, well organized sushi spot with a parking right in front. Service was quick, got ice water and edamame immediately after sitting down, and when my friend arrived, they brought out miso soup right away. Nice touch. Food wise, the sushi quality really stood out. The shimaji and kimedai had great texture and no fishy taste at all. They were already brushed with a slightly sweet soy sauce and had wasabi inside, so no extra dipping needed. The beef ribs were flavorful and tender, and the soft shell crab was perfectly crispy. Amaebi and salmon rolls were just okay compared to everything else. The only downside was the atmosphere. The sushi chefs were speaking quite loudly, and we could clearly hear them using inappropriate language multiple times in Chinese, which made the dining experience uncomfortable. Overall: great food and efficient service, but the environment could be improved.

Food - Fresh sushi - Really liked their treasure box with assorted sashimi and bites - Great and easy to share - Came back for the sushi taco - Will continue to come back for the sushi taco - Free edamame appetizer Restaurant - Better to make a reservation - Can be a bit of a wait - Has indoor and outdoor seating - Outdoor seating has heat lamps - Indoor seating is plenty but sits close to others so it can get loud Service - Very attentive and kind Location - Shares a parking lot with other restaurants and businesses

Natalie our server was amazing today! She was very kind and attentive. The staff here never seem to fail with service. Always providing wonderful service. Our food always comes out delicious and fresh. Never have a complaint when coming here. This is my #1 favorite sushi spot to go to and would highly recommend people to come here. Service is very fast as well. The restaurant is always kept clean and tidy. Todays visit we had tried: -Wagyu Yakitori (3) -Scallop Yakitori -Beef teriyaki (My personal fav) -Mango Salmon Roll -Itchika Supreme Handroll All items came out very fresh and absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend everything on the menu from this place. I'll never stop coming here. We've been coming here for 3 years and the food and service is always up to par! It was so nice, after paying the bill they gave me a complimentary gift card to use during my next visit. How sweet is that? In all, I paid $99.93 after taxes (not including tip). I made sure tip was cash and 20%! They always strive for wonderful service and best quality food. Thank you Natalie for your wonderful service and all Itchika staff!

Rainbow Roll, Double Salmon Roll, Dragon Roll
    Jocelyn L.

The service was amazing. The staff was very accommodating. We had a birthday and they kindly offered a few free mochi icecream with a candle. There were two rooms in this restaurant. One side had what I thought was tatami mat seating, but it turned out to be a table inside of a raised floor. You were sitting like you normally would at a table but the seat was the entire floor if that makes sense. It's not actually tatami seating. We ordered a 10 piece salmon sashimi, rainbow roll, double salmon roll, and the dragon roll. The sashimi was delicious - no fishiness at all. They cut some of the pieces too thin, so they gave us an extra piece to make up for it! All the sushi was as expected and tasted great, the only problem was with the rice on the rolls. The taste and texture were fine, but I'd say they only put half the rice that would usually be on a sushi roll. I've order take out before and it was never like that, so this might have been a fluke. All in all, service was great, but you might need to order an extra roll to make up for the smaller portion sizes.

Baked Scallop Roll, 49ers Roll, Old County Roll
    Andrea T.

This sushi restaurant has really tasty rolls! There's usually a wait, so it is better to get here earlier if you don't want to wait too long. For the rolls, we got the 49ers, baked scallop, and old county roll and they were all really good! I like the vibes in the restaurant especially if you get the sunken seating at the side.

Ask the Community - Ichika Sushi House

When I ate there a couple of years ago they served a great tea, what was that tea?

How much is the treasure box? I tried looking for it in the menu list but couldn't find

The treasure box is currently $85. Everything inside the treasure box is Omakasa(chef’s choice), so the price can change. The treasure box is the most premium item we offer so every piece inside is the most premium cut we have for the day. Thank you…

Is the imitation crab gluten free?? Can you replace any imitation crab in a roll with real crab?

Imitation crab contain wheat, so it isn’t gluten-free. However, we offer real crab, which is gluten-free.

What is the max number of people you can reserve in-advance? Are there minimums or 20% tip accounted for larger groups?

    Is it still dog-friendly?

    There is outdoor seating.

Can we order your treasure box at lunch?

    Yes you can!

    Do you take reservations?

Yes for parties of four or more.

Can you order curry at lunch?

    Yes, you can.

Do they still have outdoor dining?

Yes their patio is still open with heat lamps.

Does the tempura batter contain eggs?

    Are dogs allowed?

Don't know about indoor dining, but they have some outdoor dining tables in the shopping center walkway in front of their business. I'd think dogs would be ok in that outdoor, shared public space.

Does the restaurant open at noon on Sunday?

Sorry, Ichika is closed on Sunday noon.

Does the restaurant open Sat noon now? Yelp say Yes, their web site say No.

    Yes! They open for lunch.

    Are they open during thanksgiving?

No we are closed for thanksgiving this Thursday. We will be open on Black Friday.

Is there outdoor dining or indoor dining with distancing?

There was outdoor only with distancing last time we went.

Why is the health score 25? Is this correct? The place looks clean

They have a green pass, according to the San Mateo County Food Inspection Department. https://www.smchealth.org/food-inspection-results

    Are there gluten free options?

Yes, there are gluten free options such as sashimi, salad, skewers, calamari, edamame, ice cream, you could also ask to order your roll naruto style. (No rice and wrapped in cucumber).

Is the tempura really vegan? It's normally made with eggs and I noticed a lot of the vegan sushi has tempura batter in it. Also, the Veggie Tiger Roll has honey listed as an ingredient which honey is not vegan friendly. Need clarification, thanks!

Do they have a private area or seating for large parties?

Yes, they have a side more private room next to the main dining room. It's not big, but it's more private.

    When is the happy hour?

Ichika currently does not have happy hour yet, eventually we will and would happy to let you know. Thanks!

I used the promotion on the website to get 2 free pounds of shrimp as well as the #7 combo (shrimp, mussels, crawfish). I got the combo in the super ultimate sauce. The flavor of the sauce was pretty good, and you get a lot of it in the bag. It was interesting because it had a bit of a tomato-y scent to it, almost like creamy spaghetti sauce, but it also reminded me of instant ramen flavoring (lol)?? I like that the sauce didn't taste as salty or as unhealthy as Boiling Crab's sauce, which has a ton of butter and leaves me chugging water afterwards. As for the seafood itself, the shrimp was good but a bit overcooked. My favorite part of shrimp is eating the heads, but these heads did not taste very good or fresh. Similarly, I got a few mussels that were closed which means they were dead before cooking and have to be tossed. I also wish they had a combo that was shrimp + mussels + clams because I don't really like crawfish. I do like that the combo comes with some sides, but the sausage pieces should definitely be bigger than some skinny slices. Overall taste of the bag was fine, and it was piping hot so seems like it was really freshly cooked when I picked up. Cajun Bowl hit the spot and I'm glad I have this option close to home!

The service was alright however the servers kept leaving us every few minutes and it took forever for them to take our order. We got the shrimp mac and cheese (spicy) and the 1lb of snow crab legs (mild) with the super ultimate sauce with an addition of sausage and broccoli. The shrimp mac and cheese was very delicious and the crab legs were large and meaty. While pretty good, the crab was a bit overcooked and the sauce we had gotten lacked a lot of flavour and was thick and pasty rather than seasoned well. The sausage was very good though. Overall the experience was quite nice but lacking in some departments.

The place is in a big shopping center so there are quite many places to park. The restaurant is very modern and clean, I liked it right away. There are quite a few dishes to choose from. Shared a Poncit Bihon, I always said more lemon the better but it was ok? I will try other other noodles dishes next time.
