The sashimi are fresh! You can order a large or small box. I opted for a small box which fits at least nine pieces with two of them bring nigiri(s). The way it works is they charge per piece of sushi depending on what style you pick. Service is quick as everything is already displaced in front. There are limited seatings from inside and outside. They also have water and tea available for customers, which makes it feel more homey! I work very close by so I am sure I will become a regular here. Great value with lots of choices! I appreciate the vast selection of sushi, yubus, rice dishes, and more! This spot is located next to the Burlingame Caltrain, so if you ever are close by and need a bang-for-your-buck meal, this might be it. There is parking around but it may be limited, heads up! Buri buri is unique to most restaurants and sushi spots in the Bay Area because of how they serve their sushi boxes. This is a grab-and-go place where you can get any pre-prepared bowls and sides, but you can also customize a box of your choice of nigiri, sushi rolls, yuba, and more. You just need to line up, and the workers there will go down the line and stock up your box for you with your selection. The inside is nice and inviting, but they do not have any seating inside, and when I went, there were only 2 tables outside. With the small selection I made (5 pieces) it came out to $14 which was not bad at all! I would say when it comes to quality, do not expect a Michelin star-level bites where the fish melts in your mouth, but expect a meal that satisfies a craving. I had recently visited a build-your-own sushi box restaurant in Seattle, and was SO excited to see Buri Buri open in Burlingame. My friend and I stopped by for dinner on a Monday evening. The interior was small and casual, with minimal decor and only one real table for seating. They also had a few benches outside, but Buri Buri is definitely intended for takeout. I immediately noticed that the sushi selection was limited. By 6:30 PM, they had run out of many roll and nigiri varieties, so it's probably better to go for lunch. The nigiri was more expensive than I had expected, but the rolls were more reasonably priced. My husband and I were in the area for a different matter and I had remembered Buri Buri was popping up frequently on my TikTok so we had to make our way over... not that it was hard to convince him... just say sushi and he'll jump. I finally got to check this place off my list!! I've been eyeing it ever since someone posted it on Instagram. We arrived right at opening and I was so overwhelmed with the amount of options. They all look so freaking good. There were 2 size boxes and I went with the bigger size. I felt like a kid at a candy store. That one, that one, that one. So hard to resist. I could smell the sushi rice before i even entered the doors. The raw pieces were really delicious. & Its not just plain fish (which wouldve been fine as well) but buri buri drizzles some sort of sauce on it and its fills your mouth with umami. However, i did not rly like any of the roll pieces. I mean, personally its just tempura or CA roll and that gets boring quick. Finally got to try Buri Buri after seeing it all over my TikTok and Instagram! I would say the hype is sooo valid, even when we got there we saw so many people eating outside and in line. It moves quick! As someone who likes variety, this concept is perfect for me. I got to try so many flavors and combinations and I really enjoyed most of them. I really wanted to try their pressed sushi, but they were all out. The Japanese name is "oshizushi" and It is pressed through a mold to compress the ingredients together to get the shape to a flat top surface w/ layers. When they compress it in the mold, it is supposed to "infuse" the flavors more. I'll definitely be back as I really enjoyed the freshness and options so I hope I get to try that out next time I felt like the prices for everything were reasonable except for the specialty rolls (one small piece at $2.35). I was so excited to experience Buri Buri in downtown Burlingame, and it did not let me down! The store is on the fringes of it, which makes parking a bit easier but foot traffic a bit slower. 3.5 stars I've been here for lunch on a weekend and close to closing on a weekday before, evenings tend to take longer to move the line since only the same person is packing your order and ringing up the order. The price is per piece and varies between nigiri, inari/tofu pockets, and special rolls. They don't charge by the box so just ask for a box that is appropriate for your appetite. The torched salmon nigiri is definitely one of my favorites, as well as the hamachi nigiri and some of the inari pockets. I imagine the special rolls get changed up and I wish there is a more transparent way to see which pieces are being refilled soon without holding up the line. I was the least impressed with the scallop tofu pockets, I did really enjoy the savory mushroom one though. Sometimes it's all about balance. I visited Buri Buri after I finished my workout at Barry's up the block mid-January. This was around 10:30 on a Saturday morning. Cardio, then sushi and katsu sandwiches, that justifies a cheat meal, kinda? Buri Buri opens at 10, and there were 2 customers already in the shop. There a few stools and tables to eat inside, and a few tables outside, but this is mainly a grab and go spot. There was no advertisement of their katsu sandwiches but I asked if they had any, and I ordered the shrimp katsu sandwich, 2 TNT rolls, 2 Kaisen rolls, and one piece of tuna nigiri. Grand total was just under $30, and I shared with my husband for a light lunch. The katsu sandwiches are made to order so I had to wait about 10-15 for the sandwich to be ready. Buri Buri is great if you're indecisive and want to sample different things. However, at $2.35-3.25 per piece, it can add up. The katsu sandwich was $14.95. The sushi and nigiri tasted fresh, however, I didn't feel like any of the flavors popped out. Also, because the sushi is prepped ahead and on display, the rolls can be a teeny bit on the cold side. We really liked the katsu sandwich though, the milk bread was fluffy and moist and the shrimp katsu and cabbage, along with the roe were texturally satisfying and tasted great. The sandwich wasn't heavy on the mayo either. I think Buri Buri is a great place for those who like to sample, or have a small appetite. Unsweetened my matcha latte was too milky. We enjoyed all the sushi we got- we had a variety of salmon , tuna, white fish, unagi, imitation crab based rolls/nigiri, and even wished we had ordered more. I liked that they had a wide variety and it's nice being able to try out a bunch of different nigiri and rolls. I picked up 1 maguro (tuna) nigiri, 1 sake (salmon) nigiri, 1 salmon/tuna inari, 1 Green California roll, and 1 Kaizen roll. It came out to be less than $15 total for 5 pieces, which felt enough for a lunch for just myself. My favorite was the Green California roll, it's a slightly elevated California roll with shrimp tempura inside and seaweed salad on top. The rest were also very tasty as well. They also rotate some of the items whenever they run out as well too, so might be good to go early if you have a specific item that you're looking for. Overall, pretty happy that I tried this place. It's a fun concept if you want to try a variety. That said, it does get pricey. We paid about $40 for 16 pieces, which is roughly the equivalent of two full rolls at most sushi spots. The quality of the fish is definitely above average though, and the sushi tasted fresh and well made. My favorite was the Surf n Turf roll. Super flavorful and one I would definitely order again. I originally came here hoping to try their Coco Mango roll since it's highly recommended on Yelp, but unfortunately when I got there the tray was empty. I asked an employee if they were bringing out more and he said they were done making it for the day. That felt a little odd since it was still peak dinner time and it seems to be one of their most popular rolls. They were actually out of quite a few options by then, so if you want the best selection I'd recommend coming earlier in the day. My husband also ordered the chicken katsu sando (around $17), which he said was solid. I also took my chances on their mango matcha latte even though Cere Tea is just down the street, and unfortunately it was probably the worst matcha I've had. There was basically no mango flavor and the matcha itself tasted very bitter and flat. Just a heads up that this is more of a grab-and-go spot. Sushi that's so good it shines!! *^* Pick your nigiri and maki a la carte. It's about $3 a piece which I think is acceptable for the quality and beautifully made sushi. Fast and friendly service. Owners are Chinese and also own Wok Kitchen food truck business. And other restaurants. Clean and lots of nook seating arrangements. No large group seating. I recommend trying the sushi WITHOUT soy sauce and just a tiny dab of wasabi. The fish is fresh and not too cold. Perfect temperature for me. My fav nigiri tried today was the sea bream with the touch of jalapeno kick. I love the little decorative touches on each fish piece. Makes it feel like I'm eating art. Such a fun concept of building your own nigiri and sushi box! You can choose as many as you want or as little as you want. The nigiri's have pretty large pieces of fish on it. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the nigiri's and the sushi pieces. My favorites were the salmon nigiri's. Keep in mind it can add up pretty quickly, so it can be on the pricey side.
