We went to Tio's for the first time last night and I was immediately a little wary. The location was an older building in the middle of South High street and there were no other cars in the parking lot, but when we went inside, the dining room spacious and inviting. I went with a group of six and we were given excellent service. One of the people I went with got the grande margarita and not only was it impressive, he said it was amazing. I was envious and will get one myself next time. The group I went with was majority vegetarian and there is a whole section of the menu available for us to choose from. One person got the vegetarian fajitas and two others got the vegetarian fajita burritos. The food was so good that my friend said that he wished he had gotten another burrito to go. I got the vegetarian chile rellenos and was far from disappointed. The chile was flavorful and filled with cheese, and came with really well spiced beans and rice on the side. I could tell from our experience that anything that you could choose on their extensive menu would be amazing. They also do brunch and we agreed that we will return to try it soon. It's a shame that there weren't more people there in a Saturday night, I hope that this review helps give this place the recognition it deserves as one of the best places to get authentic Mexican food in Columbus. read more

First off the the people are really great and hard working. The food is always good. I've had the El Alambre, the Chilaquiles, the El Bandito, Steak Hawaiian, all have been excellent. I find a new favorite every time. The peppers and onions with the meals are fresh and amazing. You can't go wrong! Give them a try! They have recently changed up the decor for those who haven't been in for a while. It looks nice inside. Prices are very fair and the lunch crew and I try to go at least every couple weeks, if not weekly some months. read more

I had this place bookmarked after reading about their all day breakfasts. My daughter, grandson and I were headed to Local Cantina for a Friday lunch after attending my son's graduation ceremony from the Fire Academy. Instead, I saw Tio's on the drive north on High. I pulled in and we were seated at a booth. We got (big) margarita's and ordered lunch entrees. Grandson got breakfast. My shrimp burrito with rice tasted so good; loved it. Met Mark here for lunch the other day to try out a new to us place together. Noonish on a Wednesday, wasn't busy. Service was pretty good until the end when it took a hot minute to get our checks so we could leave. These folks have an extensive menu of Mexican, Tex-Mex and regular diner - breakfast and lunch food. Prices are reasonable and portions are about what you would expect but not overly generous. It still has that 50's Diner look from when it was Dan's but with a small flourish of Mexican decor. Also, Mark introduced me to Esquites which is a dish of corn, seasoning and mayonaise. Sounds like an odd combination but it is delicious! If you see this on a Mexican menu, get it! I'd definitely be up for exploring more here! 5 stars. read more

This should really be a separate entry, because it is owned by someone else, has a different name, and has a very different menu. Of course they do have both signs up still, so it's a little confusing. There are some diner items left on the menu: a few burgers, and some breakfast. But mainly there's a huge Mexican menu, with Mexican breakfast, lunch, dinners, drinks, etc. Met Mike here for lunch. It wasn't super busy at noon on a weekday. Service was great, although it was a little slow towards the end when we waited on our check. But in general, very good. Huge menu with lots of interesting stuff on it. I got esquite, Mexican street corn but in a dish instead of on the cob. Very good. Big portion. And I got carnitas. A pretty standard version, but very moist and tender, very flavorful. Came with fresh corn tortillas, plus the usual rice and beans, etc. I was starving and ate all of both, but both were pretty big portions, so I normally would've had a few leftovers. Definitely more on the menu I wanna try. A nice place to eat. Still feels like a diner, but somewhat redecorated. Prices were reasonable for quantity and quality. read more

Good ol diner vibes but with both greasy spoon diner eats PLUS super tasty Mexican comida! 100% loved it. Friendly, quick service, tasty food, amazing prices. This is a simple neighborhood diner - it's not fancy or pretentious but these are some of my favorite spots! We had Mexican eats this time and got completely stuffed for about $30. A friend I work with took me here. I was not disappointed. The diner wasn't busy at the time but we had great service and the food was excellent. Generous portions and very tasty. It was very typical as a diner and I loved the Hispanic music they were playing, definitely will go back and anyone wanting excellent Mexican food should give this place a look! read more

Dan's is here no more, but Tio's is, so Tex/Mex fans rejoice! The walls are still awash with old diner kitsch. And now they have US & Mexican flags to add to the ambience. The breakfast is still enormous, even though it speaks a bit more Spanish than it used to. Lunch looks hearty. Dinner was more than ample. And the service is as agradable as can be. My Carnitas filled more than 1/3 of my plata. Mom's Popeye chicken (with spinach of course) filled half of her platter, and was a wonderful mix of "run for the border" flavors... heading south that is, because running the other way sucks. My margarita came with a generous slice of orange, a wedge of lemon, and blueberries under an umbrella. I was a bit slow on the trigger for pix, but from what so vices on my plate, I hope you can see that my Carnitas were done to perfection. The cheese dip was cheese dip, and the salsa was salsa. No surprises, just the food you'd expect your uncle to serve you when you stop in. Awesome stuff, guys. Muy bueno. Muy rico. ¡Muchas gracias, mis amigos nuevos! I am in Merion Village at least once a week and have had my eye on this spot for awhile. Decided to stop for breakfast after Mass at St. Joseph Cathedral. Am I ever glad we did. Service was fast and friendly in a brightly decorated clean space. Gave vibes of both an old school 50's diner and a beach cantina. Food portions were huge and inexpensive. We had breakfast this time. I had the Big Country Breakfast which was your typical large American meal. Eggs over medium were just a tad hard but still enough gooey yoke to sop my bacon in. Biscuits and gravy and home fries rivaled any diner I've eaten in. My wife had Mexican Breakfast...Chilaquiles Mexicanos, which was Eggs over corn tortillas topped with Tomatillo sauce, cilantro and onions, with a flank steak, Spanish rice, and refried beans. You can also choose red enchilada sauce. Will have to try that option sometime. The Tomatillo sauce was very good and just a tad spicy. The flank steak was tender and could be pulled apart by hand, and very flavorful. Complimentary chips and salsa and free drink refills? You bet. This place has it all. read more

Typical classic American diner fare that includes a Greek specialty section on the menu. Service and atmosphere also typical of the old school diner. Food was good. Could have been a little warmer. Had scrambled eggs with hashbrowns, toast, and a side of sausage with hot tea. Didn't get pics because my phone died as soon as I checked in. But it's not hard to imagine breakfast from a diner that's been around since the 50s. read more

I ate here twice when visiting Columbus and I highly recommend it for anyone picking people up from the airport. If you are really hungry, this is the place to go. The food is delicious and there is lots of it at a reasonable price. It is a family owned business just getting its start, so when my regular cafe in German Village was too packed on Saturday, we went to Tio's for a second meal and it was even better than the first one. John said the pork in particular was extremely tender. I am a vegetarian, but with over a hundred items on their menu, I had no trouble finding something to eat. Very nice family. Pop by for Mexican food or all day breakfast. I don't drink, but they do have what appears to be a full bar for those happy hour customers. I will visit there again on my next trip into Ohio. read more

Haven't been to this place in a couple of years. Came in and there was probably 8 people inside and a bunch of tables that needed bussed. They made you sit in front section which was the mess. 3 waitresses working but basically only one doing any work. Not good. Well it must be shift change, two of the three just left. Had the Meat Lovers Skillet Bacon, ham, sausage, green peppers, onions and scrambled eggs mixed with homefries and topped with shredded cheddar and mozzarella mix. It was a little dry but a ton of food. The toast had no butter on it. This place has definitely gone down hill since my last visit. I give the one waitress that stayed credit but she was in a drowning situation. read more

A true gem just south of downtown Columbus! My son and I found this on yelp and wanted to try it. I had the huevos de la Mexicana and he had the French toast great little hole in the wall joint. Only thing would be Service was a little slow, but it didn't look like they had too much help in the kitchen. Hope tried this place sometime! read more

The people who run the restaurant could not be any nicer. They really are wonderful people and you can tell they really care about their food. I routinely order the El Bandito for lunch since it's not far from where I work. Myself and co-workers go in once or twice a month. The interior looks like a traditional diner with a Mexican restaurant flair. For those that were familiar when it was Dan's Drive-In, all the decor has stayed and most of the original menu is still there but now with numerous Mexican dishes available. Breakfast is served all day and I highly recommend trying any of the Mexican breakfast options. I recently had the Chilaquiles Mexicano and added onions and cilantro. Oh my goodness, it was amazing!!!!! Don't judge a book by the cover. The exterior could be freshened up a little but that might be more of the landlord, so please give the staff and the food a try! It is certainly a diamond in the rough! read more

Ordered Gyro Plate, pictured menu says comes with gyro meat, pita, salad and fries. Received a gyro sandwich and fries, was told if you get the pita, you don't get the salad and vice versa. Also if there was more than three ounces of meat, I'd be shocked. Definitely not competing with the real greek places in town. Should of known when they called it -"gy-ro" what I was in for. I'm always wanting to support local businesses, but this one was pretty disappointing compared to the other diners I've been going to. I was on this side of town and kinda wish I didn't come in being there was only one customer in this large joint. Usually, mom and pop diners make homemade almost everything besides this place. I ordered the Dan's breakfast, and it said biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs and home fries ( which my experience has always been homemade sliced potatoes on a grill. These were frozen potatoes cubed fried in grease. Not very tasteful. The gravy was out of a bag , definitely not homemade, and neither were the biscuits, and my eggs were over med. But severely burned on the bottom. I'm glad I came here because now I know what places to come back to and avoid. The bacon was the only good thing tbh. read more

Dan's Drive In is a throwback diner. It's cozy enough while still having enough space to relax. The decor is the best thing. It's has lots of model cars. The service isn't warm and friendly but everything else went all right. I had the hummus and vegetable pita with chips. It's about $7 which is pretty fair. The sandwich had more than just iceberg lettuce and some thawed onions and peppers. It actually tasted like it was made to order. The decor is what everyone talks about when they talk about this place. It has lots of model cars on the wall behind the counter. There's also pictures of celebrities from the era like Marilyn Monroe. It's not in a good neighborhood but it's still pretty safe if you're there early. The restaurant sometimes is only open until the afternoon anyway so there's not likely to be a crime there. If you want a classic diner experience go to Dan's Drive In. It's in a pretty scummy area but it's not crime infested. The service needs some improvement but this should be given a chance because of the experience and food too. read more

I kept hearing good things about this place and decided to take my family to try it out...boy was that a mistake! Service was very slow and the place just had a very dirty, gritty feeling to it. I tried to be patient throughout our visit because I understand how understaffed places are nowadays, but the workers really just didn't care. Dan's Drive In: A Columbus Landmark since 1951! Came in today for breakfast after a recommendation from another foodie friend. We were seated promptly and started out with many cups of hot coffee (the refills didn't stop) They have a large menu with various options. I had the Greek sausage skillet: sausage, peppers, onions, potatoes, eggs, and feta cheese. It was served with a buttery delicious biscuit. I wasn't a huge fan of the skillet. Wayy to many potatoes. And the potatoes weren't even good (very soggy). Hubs had the meat lovers omelet, which he turned half into a biscuit sandwich (pro move). He really liked it! read more
