It was my first time coming to Tio and I truly enjoyed it. There was a wait for seating but the bar is first come first serve and is FULL SERVICE. You can order drinks and food. The margarita flight was really good, strong in a good way and you get to sample different types of margs. The wings were crispy and tender on the inside. The rice and beans were okay but they didn't ruin the meal for me. So the first the I came here the food, service, and drinks were great, not the same the second time around. The food was good this time but the margaritas are way overpriced! I complained to my server that my mom's drink was honestly incredibly small and had like 3oz of actual drink but since she took a sip they gave me a hard time, the manager came and explained there was nothing she could do. However, they made the drink by mistake and instead of offering it they basically said they would charge us for it if we wanted it. For $15-$18 drinks I thought this was comical! As you can see on the image it is ALL ICE!!!! I've come a few times here and this time I paid attention to the bill.. not all restaurants do this but I'm starting to see the shittier restaurants charge the customers for using card payments. Tio and Tommy now have a 2.95% fee when you use a card... they didn't say anything about this prior to us coming to the restaurant nor did they say anything as we paid. I'm pretty sure that's illegal in NJ now, they need to notify customers about this extra charge. The only reason this is a big deal is because this affects how much to tip, shitty restaurants that do this will not get my 25-20% tip. I was craving mexican food so we went here to try for the first time. We started off with the truffle guacamole which lacked any flavor whatsoever. I would never pay $15 for such a thing ever again not to be a Karen or anything. But it just tasted super bland. I had gotten a mojito margarita and that was alright nothing spectacular. My entree was two tacos, one al pastor and the other is the crispy pork belly. The proteins were cooked to perfection, however, they poured so much sauce on my tacos it just took away all the flavors. For desert, we had shared a cheesecake churro? Not sure I forgot but it was the star of the show lol. I would skip everything else. It's really hard to mess up Mexican good so I was confused. Stopped in at Tio Taco + Tequila Bar for lunch with my cousin. I had seen this restaurant last time I was in the area and wanted to stop by. We had arrived and was seated immediately. We were provided a menu as well as a menu with their specials for the day. The waitress greeted us and took our order for drinks. We started with the queso fundito and added chorizo. The queso was served hot in a skillet and served with salted lime tortilla chips. It was soooo cheesy and each time we would dip--there was a nice cheese pull! We enjoyed this! We ordered the carne asada quesadilla and chicken fajitas. We also couldn't resist and also ordered tacos. Our entrees came out just as we were finishing up the queso. The chicken fajitas were served on a hot skillet with onions and peppers and served with a plate of rice and beans, fresh corn tortillas, and another plate of guacamole, sour cream, cheese, pico, and lettuce. It was delicious!!! The quesadilla was cheesy and had a good portion of steak. What blew us away the most were the tacos. We had ordered the shrimp grilled and fried, chicho (pork belly), and al pastor tacos. We enjoyed all of them! Overall we enjoyed our lunch! Our server was great and very attentive. Came here for taco tuesday and happy hour to try and get the most out of the deals. Sat at the bar and while it was a bit busy, the service was extremely poor and eventually we had to flag someone down just for the check at the end. the bar itself was sticky, and a bit on the dirtier side. I get it's not a five star restaurant but more upkeep would be appreciated. Happy hour has some okay deals, but the house margarita was pretty tiny for $8. The tacos were good and had a nice selection. For half price they were reasonable but at full price, $7 a taco is hefty. Also went with one of the salads that was pretty good. Overall a very mediocre experience and still pricy despite the deals...nothing terrible, but likely nothing to get me to come back either. read more

We've been back to Tio's several times and I'm increasing my review to 5 stars for a few reasons: 1. Food is consistent, we haven't had a bad experience and frequently order the same or similar items that are always excellent. Quality control is not an issue and considering we almost always come during prime time on Friday (7-9pm) this is impressive. 2. Drinks are delicious and fairly priced for the area. I am obsessed with the frozen coconut Margarita. I typically get it with salt on the rim for a sweet and salty mix. 3. They've fixed the lighting issue for the most part. Some areas of the restaurant are still a bit dim but it is significantly better than our first experience and we no longer feel the need to take our phones out for light. Now for the service, that is definitely something that is inconsistent but never awful. At most we've had to wave down our server in the past for refills on drinks at best our servers have been constantly checking in on us. We had Gared last night and he accommodated my request for a side of fajita vegetables which is not on the menu and checked in frequently with a smile and humor. Yes there is typically a wait if you're going on a weekend past 8pm and they do not take reservations or call aheads, but in my opinion for the quality of food you get and for the prices, it's absolutely worth putting your name on the list and hunkering down at the bar for a bit. If you want a lower pressure dining experience, try going earlier. We will continue to return. read more

My husband took me here for my birthday after work. Our experience was terrible. The waiter was unprofessional and lacked basic hospitality service skills. The waiter didn't even introduce himself or bother to review the menu with us. He seemed bothered when we asked question about the menu. We didn't even get water until we had to ask twice. My husband asked for a slice of cake and to sing Happy Birthday to me at the end of our meal. The waiter brought out a scoop of whip cream and a candle and put it on the table and walked off. Stopped in this past Sunday for the first time while waiting for Top Golf. We were a party of four who arrived around 3:30. We asked if we could sit in the outdoor area and were told we could and it would only be a few minutes. 20 minutes later we were told it was a waiting area by a different hostess who also told us "I just got here" as a response to our question of why did the other hostess tell us we could sit out there. After the 20 minute wait in a relatively empty restaurant we were seated next to the area we wanted to sit but were told it was a waiting area just to see 10 minutes later people being sat in that exact area. Asked our waitress about and she was very "matter of fact" and offered to call the manager "if we wanted". We didn't request the manager. Anyhow, I wanted to give a glimpse of what the overall experience was. There's more but lets get to the food and drinks. Food - not great, not bad and a little sloppy in my opinion. Drinks - Boosted the score a bit. Overall the entire table was happy with our drinks. Overall, I'd like to be able to go to Tio again but service needs to tighten up quite a bit. The birria taco on his opinion could have tasted better and the sauce was not original. However the cod fish tacos were good. I came here with a friend after watching a movie down on route 1. Given this was one of the only places open late for a sit down restaurant I felt it was a ok to good experience and I would return on a different day given their happy hour deals. I ordered a Mexicano mule which I enjoyed and my friend order a mango jalapeño marg which she said she really enjoyed. As far as the food goes I was a little unimpressed. The milanesa torta was not that flavorful (quite dry actually) and I had to put two diff types of hot sauce to even get some flavor. The rice and beans were also just ok, I didn't even try them myself because they didn't look too appealing and my friend didn't enjoy them so I thought why bother. The short rib quesadilla saved the day as this was super flavorful and enjoyable--this was only on the special menu so I hope the decide to incorporate it on the regular menu. Overall good experience due to the drinks and birria quesadilla. The service by Camila was top tier. She was super attentive and really knew how to take care of us which was amazing an appreciated. Cute ambiance (we sat outside) it was quite humid so maybe inside during the summer but the outdoor seating area was nice and I would look forward to sitting outside for small apps and drinks sometime soon. read more

The chicken quesadilla was OK too, not sure they are made fresh daily but did have a taste as if they were refrigerated. Came to this place on a Saturday afternoon to have lunch with friends. It was about a 15 minute wait around 3 PM. I left my name and gave my phone number and they text me as soon as my table was ready. The place wasn't really packed but it had a good amount of people. Me and my table ordered a lot of food and drinks. One thing that I can say is that the food lacked flavor, it was lukewarm, and overall underwhelming. The drinks were good And the desserts were on point. Our server was very nice. We first ordered a margarita flight, smoky pineapple margarita. And a strawberry margarita. The flight was really good and so was the strawberry margarita. The smoky pineapple margarita had a taste as if you would lick a dirty barbecue grill. It had no pineapple flavor it was just all smoke. I guess this is a drink that has a desired taste. My table ordered Chicken floutas, elotes, beef empanadas, fries, chicken fajitas, Jalapeño cornbread,avocado taco, and a beef taco. All the food lacked flavor and was luke warm. But sinxe it took a while to arrive we just stuck with it. The french fries tasted cold and stale, the empanada filling wasn't desirable, it tasted more like beef that you would eat with spaghetti. The flautas lacked flavor and needed salt, it was all one note and one texture which was mushy. The jalapeño cornbread was beyond disgusting. It tasted like a mixture of raw meat and cheese which was very weird and odd. The elotes were very cold as well. The fajitas were OK and the tacos were also below average, but passable. The best part of the whole meal was the dessert. We ordered the churros and the rum banana cheese cake burrito. It was to die for. If I ever do decide to come back here (which i most likly wont) i would stick to drinks and dessert. The bill came up to around $140, which wasn't bad for the amount of food that we ordered and splitting it between three people along with a child's meal which was a cheese quesadilla and french fries. What a great experience! This was my first time at this establishment and I loved it. At first the music drew me in and the beautiful outdoor area was warm and inviting. Upon being seated we had our drinks taken and a great explanation of the menu. Our drinks came out super fast and they were delicious. We had the one of their new chili Infused margaritas and it was delicious. For food we ordered the wings and the chimichanga. OMGGGGGGG - the wings were soooooooo good. My favorite. It was like they fried them and also grilled them. It has a delicious smoky taste (not too smoky) but also a great crunch. I'm a huge fan of blue cheese with my wings, I didn't care. Which seems like such a contradiction at a tequila bar. Guacamole was super bland. Tacos were super dry. I am reading that they bring out complimentary salsa with chips, which we didn't receive. Upon arrival, we waited about 30 mins for a table which was fine since I was expecting a wait. Once we were seated, the waitress was attentive and very friendly. The drinks were AMAZING. Once I saw frozen margarita flight... I was absolutely sold. And the flight didn't disappoint at all. My bf also got a margarita with a corona in it. Was so good. The food is what is lacking here. For our appetizer, we got the beef empanadas which we both enjoyed. For my entree, I got 3 different types of tacos and didn't particularly care for any of them. I just ate the proteins out of them and left the shells and toppings. They all had a very large amount of red cabbage on top which was not necessary. The other entree ordered was the steak with rice and beans. Very standard, nothing special. This dish came with plantains coated in cinnamon sugar which were phenomenal. I was celebrating my birthday so we decided to try this place. I was told they've only been open 4 months. THEY DON'T TAKE RESERVATIONS. Upon arrival, I met a hostess named Danielle. She was wonderful! She was very upbeat and pleasant just like all the other servers.. Danielle told me there would be approximately 1-1/2 hour wait. I was shocked, but decided to wait because we just drove 45 minutes and didn't want to have to find another place to eat and possibly wait. This place is definitely doing a good job with social distancing, and every other table was vacant which I believe made the wait even longer. People were standing in the doorway of the entrance and inside the breeze way by the door. Danielle suggested waiting outside on the patio but it is not enclosed, only the other half they use for dining was enclosed with heaters which didn't make any sense. With the breeze, it made it feel like it was 10° out. Only two young guys chose to wait outside because they urbered and didn't have a car to sit in. They did have a fire table but it really didn't give off any heat. (I would suggest they enclose the outdoor patio for the winter and put some heaters out there so there's a place for people to wait since they won't take reservations. Come summer they can remove the enclosed covering. My other suggestion would be if people are going to be asked to wait 1-1/2-2 hours on average then it would be nice if Tio Taco would offer complimentary chips and salsa, or something to snack on while waiting because drinking Tequila on an empty stomach is not a good mix.) There was absolutely no place to stand so I couldn't order appetizers while we waited. There are no seats at the bar, and due to Covid you are not allowed to wait near the bar or around the area. Everyone is required to wear a mask while waiting. This left very limited space inside to wait which made it very difficult. After seeing many people go outside and wait in their car, we decided to do the same. We waited approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes to be seated. Once seated I ordered Blood Orange frozen margarita, Spicy cucumber margarita, Grand Tio San-Rita. The frozen drinks were really good! Next time I'm going to try their 4- 5oz mini assorted flavors of frozen margaritas so I can try their prickly pear and mango flavors.. For appetizer I ordered the house guacamole (Tio) guacamole with pico de gallo and cotija cheese. The guacamole tasted very fresh and it had a good chunky consistency, accompanied by their homemade lime flavored tortilla chips which really hit the spot. There were other guacamole choices to choose from, the ranchero guacamole with the pork belly sounded great too. For my entree I chose Churrasco Skirt Steak- marinated and grilled topped with chimichurri sauce and served with yellow rice, black beans and fried plantains. My steak was a little over cooked, I asked for med rare, more to the rare side, it was more medium. I was surprised the rice portion was small, usually in a Mexican restaurant the portions are large. It also came with plantains, and those were a nice portion and delicious. My friend ordered a chimichanga and it was a nice size, she thought it was lacking in flavor. My other friend ordered 2 different tacos and a side order of rice and beans. He liked his tacos but said they were cold. We didn't say anything because we had waited two hours and 15 minutes to be seated and we were so hungry that we just delt with it. I did not order dessert. I know this restaurant is fairly new, but the only way to make it better is to point out what could be improved. Came here for a birthday, and this was a great setting for a celebration. Seating can be set up easily to accommodate large parties, and service is fast and efficient. The table shared nachos and chips & guacamole, and both were super flavorful and well-seasoned. For my main, I ordered a shrimp taco and a chicken tinga taco. The portion size was wonderful, so no complaints there. The shrimp had a nice crunchy texture, and the sauce was light yet creamy. However, besides the sauce, the shrimp taco was missing a bit of flavor. Same for the chicken tinga taco. I also didn't like the texture of the chicken. The pieces were stuck together and hard to chew. The tortillas were also too chewy. Overall, though, I enjoyed the appetizers, and I would recommend this spot to anybody looking for decent Mexican food in large quantities. read more

A few weeks ago I visited Tio's. I had a really good time! The atmosphere is great, the decor has an awesome rustic middle of no where vibe and the staff is super friendly. Only thing I would suggest is if you plan on going, make sure you call ahead. I had to wait a little over an hour for a table but that's given the current Covid restrictions in pace for indoor dining. We started the order off with a couple cocktails and an order of wings in their house and empanadas. The wings were probably the best wings I've ever had. I really wish I could describe them. Like obviously they were fried to perfection. But the sauce they used was indescribable. It's a sticky sauce with Smokey flavors but also sweet and then even some heat! I can't describe them just go try them! The empanadas were good too they weren't dripping in oil which was awesome and they had a great crunch to them too! I went there on a cheat day so I ordered 3 orders of tacos. I had a total of 12 tacos, 4 chicken, 4 shrimp and 4 chorizo. The tacos are well prepared and have awesome toppings on them which accent the meat perfectly and aren't over powering. The chicken and shrimp was cooked well and tasted phenomenal. The chorizo taco was good too don't get me wrong but was a little on the sweeter side and I'm just like used to chorizo with a kick or some sort of spice and heat but still they were really good. The tortillas were made from a thick corn flour which don't rip when you pick up your tacos either because the tacos are LOADED! I really had fun there. Some of the staff couldn't believe the amount of food I ordered so they came walking by to be shocked that I actually ate all 12 tacos because those bad boys were massive, haha! I was at the restaurant today and order the lobster tacos although only two for the price of $25 the lobster amount given in the tacos did not add to a regular lobster tail therefore over priced and the margaritas were supposed to be frozen was water down and nothing like the advertising on the website. The soda was water down as well we send back the margarita and soda and settle for water . The chicken wings was fried hard and for the cost of $16 should have been cooked better. The cheesecake dessert was delicious and the staff over all was courteous. The corn was also very good, and the chicken nachos were a personal favorite of mine. Overall, the restaurant is excellent and provides a great time with good food. Finally tried this place after wanting to for a while - so worth the wait! The atmosphere is so fun and different! It draws you in immediately. We started off with chips and salsa and the empanadas. Both were incredible! I love that they give you two types of salsa to pair with your chips, most places don't do that! I had to get a margarita OF COURSE, when I saw they had a coconut flavor it was a no brainer. My boyfriend went with the pork belly enchiladas (incredible!!! The meat was so flavorful) and for my dinner I went with the taqueria salad. This salad was jam packed with all of my favorite ingredients and I loved the dressing! Service was fast and friendly and food/drinks were tasty! I recommend the house margarita and empanadas for starters. Tables were at least 6 feet apart from other customers and entire staff was wearing masks. read more

Terrible experience! Food was terrible, service was worse! Got sprayed with water from bar and had zero apology. The manager said "it was not intentional" had to find our own towels to wipe ourselves and table off. Had 3 margaritas, 2 were wrong and had to be sent back. Was served food, cold and cheese on nachos was not even melted. Finished eating and all empty dishes sat for over an hour in our table. We were there for over 4 hours, had 3 people in our party, 1 left early. After 3 margaritas the manager came and told our table had too many cocktails served even though we had an additional person and we were cut off. There were 2 of us who had 3 weak margaritas over 4 hours and ate food. This place is pure disgust. read more
