For the longest time, I've been wanting to try Tipsy Pig cause I love me some bbq!! Look at the great reviews. It's hard for me to find some good tasting bbq though. I'm really particular. After hiking Stone Mountain today, I wanted to stop by and grab some food. Unfortunately, a lot of places were closed on Sunday!! Oh well. Tipsy Pig to the rescue. It is located right next door to a gas station but shares the insides with the gas station. Half of the gas station is dedicated to bbq customers. There are a few tables but they were all occupied with hungry customers ripping up the food. You order at the bbq side and get a receipt to pay at the gas station side. Then you return back showing that you paid. If you want a receipt for what you paid for, you have to request it. Otherwise, sorry, no receipt. I ordered the family pack #1 that feeds 3-4 people, 1 1/4 lbs of pork, 4 buns, & 2 pint size choices of sides. I decided on fries and mac & cheese ($1.50 extra). The fries filled in a huge to-go container. Since I love me some chicken, I ordered smoked wings. The two sauces I chose were regular and spicy. I took it all to go. I opened the fries container and looked inside, it's edible but sooooo dry! They were over fried. But I still kept eating them. I do not know why I thought I got ribs. For some reason, I thought that. The pork meat was pulled and wrapped in parchment paper. The flavor of the meats were nothing to rave about. The sauce was great though. I liked it but I do hate when you rely on the sauce for bbq. I feel the meats should be smoked with some yumminess and the sauce be the supporting star, not the main star. So the smoked wings were 3 whole wings. They were so dry. Without the sauce, it would not even be good. Overall, disappointed. I wonder if I got the ribs that it would make a difference. Fantastic find for BBQ. Place is tucked away so don't miss it. I had the 2 meat combo with Chicken and ribs (3 bones). Chicken was some of the juiciest I've had. Ribs were fall off the bone. Just around the corner from my new pad, I was stoked to have a BBQ shop so close by. I ordered a two meat special, ribs and chicken with green beans and fries as the sides, also added a small Brunswick stew to the mix because I love that. The chicken was super smokey and moist, ribs were the same, mild sauce was just okay (I like the sweet stuff). The fries look like they are cooked in an air fryer which is more healthful, but dry. The portions were large btw. Beans pretty much the same, bland. The stew I didn't care for at all. All in all pass on the sides, but meats were very good. read more

This place is awesome! It's inside an Exxon station so you may not expect greatness but don't let that stop you this place is a diamond in the rough. The people behind the counter are just full of smiles and very helpful if you have any questions. And now for the food. We had the ribs, pulled pork, the Brunswick stew, coleslaw, and the greens. The ribs were the best I've ever had! They had a wonderful crust sweet and smoky but very tender. Pulled pork was very tender but kind of light on the flavor. My husband liked the Brunswick stew so much we went right back and got a quart more! The coleslaw was not too sweet very creamy. The greens were flavorful but undercooked. After we had that for lunch we went back and got the stew, more coleslaw, half a smoked chicken and the brisket. The smoked chicken was juicy and the smoke flavor was in the meat not just the skin. The brisket had just the right amount of spice although it might have been a tiny bit dry but in my opinion the flavor made up for that. With your order you can choose two different barbecue sauces which they make themselves. We got the hot and the vinegar. The hot was so good we purchased a bottle of it. I had high hopes.... I really did. To be honest, they're more like a 2.5. Overall, the highlight item was the ribs. They were cooked well and they were tender. The smoked chicken was ok.... had a few dry parts. All of the sides were trash. We got the mac & cheese, green beans, potato salad and collard greens. The mac had ZERO seasoning and barely any cheese. The greens came straight from a can, as did the green beans. I passed on eating the sides after tasting each one. All of them were bland. We got the sweet heat bbq sauce on the side and it was very vinegary and just blah. It didn't go good with the meats at all. Like others have stated, it is inside of gas station. Reporting live from my seat at Tipsy Pig (singing Beyoncé's 'Let me upgrade you') while I add a star to my previous review. THE SCENE Today's experience is a worthy rewrite of my original review, or in this case an update. It truly is good to visit a restaurant multiple times before putting your opinion to paper. Although this is only my second visit, I want to simply say it was superior to the first in every way. My first review was a generous 3 stars. I was bordering on 2 stars, but I really enjoyed the ribs. This go round I arrived just minutes before the ribs were to come off the smoker. The manager (Steve) offered me a deal on "day old ribs" that were $5 cheaper per rack than fresh cooked, but I held out for the fresh ones even though we were starving. I'm so happy I did. Tipsy Pig took a large leap into possibly being my favorite BBQ pork ribs in Georgia. Hot, tender, nicely seasoned and juicy would be among the list of adjectives I would use when describing these perfectly smoked delicious morsels of meat. 5 star worthy all the way!!! THE RIBS Initially, I had them wrap the order to go, but decided to take a bite while they were hot and fresh for yelping sake. That was all she wrote, because next thing you know we were seated and asking for dishware. [too late] We did a face plant into those suckers right there and didn't stop until there was only a pile of bones, empty Styrofoam containers, and BBQ sauce slathered smiles. I also tried the pulled pork and honestly I'm just not a pulled pork kind of guy. The pulled pork here is okay, but the ribs are simply fantastic! BAKED BEANS/MAC N' CHEESE/GREEN BEANS The sides were also better today, much better than my first visit. However after the manager allowed us to try samples of all the sides, I'm still not a fan of the potato salad or cole slaw. Otherwise I'd give the baked beans a 4 and all the other sides between 3 to 3.5. FINAL THOUGHTS I can't in all good consciousness hand out 5 stars here for anything other than the ribs, but I must say Steve and his crew were delightful and accommodating. Steve (on his own accord) heated up a sample of the day old ribs and brought them to our table to try. Unless $5 means that much to you, stick with the fresh off the grill ribs. There is simply no contest between the two. Actually, having the fresh off the grill ones has ruined me 4life! I serve notice to Tipsy Pig that henceforth I'll be calling ahead to find out when fresh ribs will be ready, hop in my truck and drive there to greet them as if my wife was giving birth to a new baby!!! I must have them this way each and every time! Now, I wonder if I should buy flowers or balloons saying 'welcome home' to our next ribs delivery? LOL read more

A small hole in the wall that is a true hidden gem of Georgia. Excellent BBQ and soul food that gets my seal of approval. I saw this in the nearby on the Yelp mobile app and if something nearby is featured in Lawrenceville, that means it has to be good since there aren't a lot of good places so I bookmarked it and filed it into the back of my mind. After going to a nice 3 dollar signs place and not being pleased with it, we ended up leaving before getting entrees, and thought where to next? My cousin is also a Yelper and she had this filed in the back of her mind also so we decided to adventure. We're thinking "anything will be better than this" =P Now this place is inside a gas station so we're not expecting much, but we want to understand why a place inside a random gas station has almost 5 stars on Yelp! We walked in and the staff there is immediately accommodating and welcoming. They have that southern charm that southern BBQ seems to compliment. The staff provided some great recommendations and really sold us on getting their smoked bbq chicken. Along with that, we got the pulled pork, mac and cheese, and baked beans. Drinks wise, since it is inside a Shell gas station, we got diet soda beverages from the gas station. The pulled pork was awesome! My only regret is not putting enough bbq sauce and being too full to be able to get another order to go! The bbq chicken was also awesome. It definitely had the smoked flavor. But try the potato salad, cole slaw, and fries! Yes, even the fries are great. Best part about Tipsey - they are open 7d a week. 7d! Some que places aren't open 5d a week! Ribs, 7d a week. Think about that for a moment. Go ahead, we'll be here when you get back! Tired or pork (gasp?!?) - get some chicken. They smoke wings and drop fry them to a crispy finish, before tossing in your choice of bbq or hot sauce. Or get their version of a kicking chicken sandwich - it's amazing on Texas Toast! Wow! So we were just driving through and looking for somewhere for a quick lunch and not a fast food chain and we hit the jackpot! First off, yes it's located in half of a gas station... but don't let that deter you. My husband had the roasted half chicken and I had the pulled pork sandwich. Both dishes were excellent, well seasoned, and perfectly cooked. Mac n cheese and baked beans were delicious too. Cleanliness was a high priority for the workers. They were constantly changing gloves (I like being able to see the preparation). All in all a great meal and we will find a way to get back to try more! So you might not associate a gas station with good BBQ or good food at all.... but this is no ordinary gas station and its no ordinary BBQ... Before you can even put your car in park you can smell the delicious smoked pork ... but nothing compares to how good it tasted.... Totally worth the trek to get there..... We tried the smoked chicken which is hands down the best smoked chicken I have had... truly awesome... the ribs were pretty good too the pulled pork was just ehh a little dry to be honest... as for the sides the slaw and mac were ok... but I'm such a sucker for green beans.. and collards I can probably eat a giant bowl full... Best barbecue in Lilburn/Lawrenceville in my opinion. Their pulled pork is absolutely amazing.

I tried this place twice after seeing it mentioned everywhere as being underrated etc. However was a little disappointed the sides were not that great. The pulled pork sandwich was simply just sad. The ribs were good however I seemed to always get the ones that had been out of the barbecue for a while so were a little tough to it. Service was amazing both times. read more

Ordered catering for a family get together. You will NOT be disappointed. Everything was delicious, but the cole slaw, pulled pork and smoked chicken were beyond perfection. Everyone loved the food and all leftovers were claimed by the guests. Jacob was a fine young man to deal with and made the process so easy. I visited this "restaurant" at the suggestion of neighbors on NextDoor. It is located inside the gas station, which is quite cluttered. I observed several young people "cooking" the food. Basically, they were dumping cans of green beans into a warmer. That was so gross. I also observed one kid making banana pudding without gloves. It was unsanitary. I took the food because I had already paid for it, but could not eat it. My son did and stated that the potato salad was not palatable, the BBQ chicken was ok. We dumped almost all of it. I realize that everyone's standards are different. In my opinion, the BBQ is less than tasty and the "soul food" is just awful. I'm so sorry to be so descriptive. Yes this place is inside of a Shell gas station but don't let that discourage you. They provide friendly, helpful service and treat their customers well. It was our first time there and we saw lots of repeat customers that the staff called by name so that was a good sign. We ordered ribs, chicken, smoked wings and a red neck Cuban sandwich (pulled pork, ham, mustard and pickles on Cuban bread) with Mac and cheese, baked beans and coleslaw. The meat was tender and the portions very generous. The Mac and cheese wasn't my favorite but I loved the coleslaw and beans. The sauce was vinegar based and tangy yet sweet. OMG......I have gotten their chopped pork by the pound for years, and the Brunswick stew and tried their 1/4 chicken that is all TO DIE FOR!!! But today, I added a slab of Ribs..........and there are no words. I have been known for my ribs for many years, but ran outta time to cook them today. Tipsy Pig came through..........RIBS ARE FABULOUS.....MEATY, MOIST, TENDER, FLAVORFUL........DAMN SPOT ON!!!!! We tried them for the 3rd of July and were very pleased. With the #2 family meal you get a LOT of meat, and an adequate amount of the sides. The BBQ pork is tender and delicious. The sides were good also (we had slaw, mac n cheese, and baked beans). I also got an individual Brunswick stew. It was very flavorful but had more meat and less vegetables than I'm used to. I recommend it if you know what to expect. The only slight mark down is that they didn't include plastic ware or napkins and didn't tell me. You pay via the convenience store register in the same market. Will be back, once we finish the leftovers! read more

Not bad. Cute little place tucked in the back of a gas station. People are nice. Potato salad is good the ribs have a good flavor but are a little chewy. Brisket is thick cut and a little dry. Updated Review: Everything I wrote in my previous review is still true, but the ribs on my 2nd visit were truly magnificent. I brought my partner along on this visit, after I had told him about the awesome service, and wonderful food. He doesn't usually care for pork, but he was taken for a pleasure cruise by the fall-off-the-bone goodness of these ribs. We both loved the awesome Mac and Cheese and the Brunswick Stew (again!) I wish I could have more food from the Tipsy Pig, but I'm back home in SLC, as I write this. Tipsy Pig has spoiled me for good barbeque. Sadly, there's nothing I've tasted in Utah that compares the the down-home genius of The Tipsy Pig. When I'm back in GA, I'll make a point of returning, you better believe! read more

So at first I was a little skeptical when coming to this place. BUT MANNNNNNNN!!!!!! i order 2 plates. the rib and pulled pork w/ baked beans and mac, as well as the chicken and pulled pork w/ cole slaw and mac. The meat wasss AMAZE BALLS. It was juicy, and tender and well seasoned. The side sauces are superb..esp the ones with vinegar bbq sauce and a hint of spice. When i arrived an employee as me what sauce i wanted. I let her know it was my 1st time eating there so she loaded me up w/ every sauce that they had and they are all yum yum good. My dislikes were the coleslaw and mac. the cole slaw didnt have much flavor to it. I did remake it once i got home but the initial taste did not impress. The make was ok but it tasted like box brand mac and cheese and i was hoping for an old style in home taste. other than that it was good.
