Some of the best, if not the best, Jamaican food I've had in Los Angeles. The oxtails were incredible, super tender, rich, and full of flavor. The sides were just as impressive, especially the mac and cheese and the plantains. They also give really generous portions so you definitely get your money's worth. I ordered takeout and everything was still hot and fresh when I got home. This place definitely gets busy, but it is absolutely worth it. I love supporting local businesses and black/brown owned businesses, but the customer service is poor and crazy check in process for pick up/takeout. Yes... you read that right, check in process. We live up the street and it was our first time trying this spot to finally see what the buzz was about. I paid for the food using Apple Pay and had my husband pick it up. I did read that when picking up, you need to have a matching ID and the CC used to pay. So I sent my husband with both. The security who checks you in gave him such a hard time about it and denied his entrance because it needs to be the same name as the person on the receipt! So I had to go. I arrived, parking is difficult to find although it's in a residential area. So after I showed him my ID, CC, and Email confirmation, he then has to write down all this info from your email?? He said the last 4 digits didn't match my CC, so I let him know I paid with Apple Pay. He then asked me to open my Apple Pay App to then look at the history?! The food is good and flavorful , but in LA, you can find that elsewhere without all the hassle. We will not be going back, that's for sure. I don't like to give low ratings but the system here for ordering should be addressed for a better experience for the customer. When you walk up there are two lines outside. One is for walk in and the other is for people who have already ordered. The security guard tells you when it's your time to go inside to stand in another line to order or pick up. Mind you the lines inside are semi crossed and confusing, so if the guard does not walk you in and point you to the correct spot you might be in the wrong line or unknowingly cut someone. There's a large menu board but it does not have the full menu stating the cost for additional sides, drinks or combos. And if they run out of items you don't know until you're at the window. When you get to the window they have a paper menu, I'm not sure why it is not available before reaching the window which would be convenient and save time. After I stood in line I ordered and received my number. They do not call names or numbers, I was told to get in the other line after 30 minutes, bruh! I saw the glistening sauce on a wing someone was eating, and I was curious. Don't skip on the cabbage. It's so tasty and perfecrly spicy which made it hard to stop eating. I purchased this order to go, arriving home over an hour later. I did not warm the food, and dove into the oxtail. They were small but plentiful, perfectly seasoned and the meat fell off the bone becoming addicting. I ate a couple of the tender wings and used the sauce as lipstick. Finger licking good. We arrived 30 mins after opening and the OUTSIDE line was already queued up! In line for a good 25 mins before getting to the INSIDE line!! =O 35 mins before we got to order and 20 mins before the food was ready!! That's probably average wait time right there. One thing no one talks about is the butter cake that you can order when you get to the register to pay--I don't know if you can order butter cake online as I've only been in person. That butter cake is delicious! Butter cake is a cousin to pound cake, but butter cake isn't as dense and it's more moist than other cakes. Also, this butter cake comes with a glaze that you pour on top. It is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend. If you decide to eat there, Tev's has a patio in the back. Now keep in mind these are their wings, but they assured me they dab it up with their famous jerk sauce. The jerk sauce had zero, and I mean zero flavor. If this is indeed the same sauce they use for their regular jerk chicken , I'm definitely not gonna be a fan . It is neither sweet , nor spicy. And that's the sina qua non of a good jerk chicken au jus. In fact, the sauce was so mild and bland, that if this was a blind taste test, and i didn't know it was a Jamaican restaurant , the last thing I would know is they're jerk wings. I went on Thursday and got two Jerk chicken pastas, one Jerk chicken and shrimp pasta, and a Cajun chicken pasta and the flavors were great. The chicken was juicy and shrimp was cooked to perfection (not tough or rubbery). The Cool-Aid reminded me of my childhood, ice cold and it happen to be a hot day so that added to the nostalgia of drinking Cool-Aid for me. I've never had to jump through so many hoops just to pick up food. I placed an online order and was told it would be ready in 45 minutes. I arrived after 45min, only to find two lines outside and TWO top flight security guards managing the process. Before even getting in, I had to show my order confirmation, the card I paid with, and my ID. WTF? After waiting about 15 minutes outside in the sun, I was let in... to stand in another line for ANOTHER 15 minutes! In total, it took over 70 minutes from placing my order to actually getting my food. The food was MID! Not worth any of the hassle.
