This a gem. What is there between Tracy and Los Angeles on interstate 5? There are a few typical fast food places, a handful of chain diners, Anderson's Split Pea and Harris Ranch. Okay, I probably missed something. And then there is Tita's. The owners pride themselves on making genuine Salvadorian and Mexican food. We had excellent pork and cheese popusas that were made from home made tortillas. We added fried plantains that were some of the better plantains we have tasted recently. On top of this we got ala carte chicken tamales. We had to wait a bit for the order since the chef masterfully creates each order with care. If you want pre-made junk tacos in less than five minutes you probably don't have time to taste Tita's delicacies. I rated 5 for excellent service from a small establishment and great food. I doubt there is a better Salvadorian restaurant in 30 miles. We will be back. read more

I still dream about thier pupusas, particularly, the curtido they make here is like non other and rivals even Panchitas in SF's Mission. Everytiwe take a road trip to SoCal, this is where we stop. This place falls under "recommended places to eat en route LA" on many blogs, so we had to make a pit stop here. It's right by Highway 5. Plus, who doesn't like Pupusas? On our way to LA we stopped by Tita's. A bit dark interior and small tables around, it was pretty quiet for a lunch hour weekday. We were greeted by a wonderful lady who also took our order. It seems to be family run/ It has a small bakery section at the counter as well. We had a couple of things there, pupusas (duh) - couple of them to taste as many as we could, Camarones a la Diabla, tamales and Pork Verde. Everything was delicious and tasted authentic. The pupusas were delicious and so was the Salvadorean tamales wrapped in banana leaves. The Camarones was exceptionally good. This really stuck to its name, it was very SPICY and for me to say that, that is if you know me and my love to spicy food, this was up there. I really enjoyed every bite. The pork was good as well but typical. The portions are large and you can very well split the platters if you order pupusas. Of course nothing survived our table and all was over within minutes :) This is definitely gonna be our go to restaurant when driving to/ from LA. read more

I had a fish taco which was excellent. It needed nothing else although their side salsas were great. I also got the cab Esa taco which was also really good and both salsas worked well with it. They had a salsa rojo and an avocado salsa both were great. I also had the Salvadoran tamale which had chicken and yucca with a little red sauce inside. Also really good. It wasn't even very crowded, 4pm on a Monday with just one person ordering in line ahead of us. I'm always impressed when I can find a decent meal while traveling and I had a fantastic meal at Tita's. If you happen to be in Buttonwillow, check out this little Salvadoran/Mexican food truck. I had their chili coronado and it was delicious with chunks of tender pork and the sauce had a nice bite to it. The service was slow so if you're in a rush to get home after road tripping, make sure you factor this in. I'm somewhat of a Taco Truck fiend. I started basically commuting back and forth from Stockton to West Hollywood. Apparently, love is strong enough to make me make that drive. :) Anyway, I enjoy trying out different taco trucks in random places. I never expected to find a really good Taco Truck in Buttonwillow. The shrimp tacos are fantastic! I'm not much of a pupusa guy so I have no opinion on that. I also like their Carne Asada tacos. I'm a pretty simple man. I drive long distances for love and really like tacos. This place is really worth stopping for. Also, the gas across the street is usually cheaper than a lot of places. Beware, during peak hours, there is usually a line. I think it's worth waiting for but if you are in a hurry than stop off hours. read more

Hello everyone, so for Presidents' Day weekend my family and I where at Buttonwillow raceway for a track day when about mid day everyone got hungry and while driving up to the track we saw Tita's Pupuseria just off the freeway so everyone voted to try it for lunch so we did, we ordered 6 revueltas 2 cheese 2 asada mini tacos and a bean and cheese burrito......WOW! Definitely very tasty! The burrito was huge! The pupusas where big and very tasty the asada tacos delicious! And the Horchata was very good as well. I was delighted to have found a Pupuseria this far from home, home being 150 miles away. Either way I recommend this establishment to everyone who's familiar with Salvadorian food and those that aren't worry not the staff is friendly and I'm sure they'll help navigate through the menu it won't disappoint. read more

Great find along the I-5! Perfect if you're looking for an alternative to more than just fast food! Large assortment of Ecuadorian and Mexican menu items. My husband and I shared the pupusa which was stuffed to the gills and absolutely delicious. It was accompanied by a mild cabbage slaw/salad. We also enjoyed the chicken tacos and a chicken tostada. What?! What is this? There's a place in the tiny, dusty, speck-of-a-town of Buttonwillow with 300-ish reviews & a solid 4 star rating? It's hard to conceive of any place here that would be that much of a draw. & not just any ol' place, but a restaurant? A pupuseria, of all things? What? Yup, Tita's Pupuseria. Heading home from YSB SD '16 up the 5, I thought it was a mirage when it popped up on my Yelp app. Hey, I like pupusas. Why not give it a shot? The 1st thing I had to figure out was which Tita's I was going to try. There's a Tita's food truck by the freeway on-ramp, which I believe was the origin of the Tita's Buttonwillow pupusa empire, & there's a Tita's sit-down restaurant maybe 150-200 yards down the street. I opted for the restaurant. On a Monday afternoon, the parking lot was mostly empty. Inside, there was only a single party of 4 sitting & already eating. Ordering is at the front counter & I got a 2 pupusas combo plate (1 pork & cheese, 1 bean & cheese, w/ rice, beans, salad, & tortillas). Service was effective but largely disinterested. My order took a really, really long time. & the $$ for a combo plate was pricy compared to the $ for individual pupusas. Digging in, after I finally got my food, all of it was good. The pupusas were really good. Not the best pupusas I've ever had, though perhaps the biggest pupusas I've ever had. Overall, I feel like my stop at Tita's Pupuseria was a 3.5 out of 5 star experience. Given the complete & total dearth of interesting food choices on I-5 through the entire Central Valley, however, I'll round up to 4 stars for good pupusas, of all things, in Buttonwillow, of all places. read more

On a long drive along I5 there are few things that make me stop: Gas, restroom breaks, and now pupusas. Originally just a food truck right off the freeway in a truck stop area, they now have a full restaurant open in the same area. We decided this time to get food at the restaurant. The truck is literally right next to the onramp. We ordered a couple different types of pupusas and tacos. The pupusa revuelta was sooo good. Melted cheese and pork with a slight crispy tortilla - Definitely a must get. The shocking part was the pupusas were still warm after a few hours! We also got carne asada and carnitas tacos which was pretty good. And finally we ordered some rolled tacos. You haven't had rolled tacos until you've had them here. No Lie, the best rolled tacos i've ever had. After that small sampling, I'm sure you will not be disappointed with whatever you pick. Overall a great place to eat and now is going to be a mandatory stop to and from SoCal. read more

SO I stopped at one of the trucks here with my youth delegation here about a week ago, and let me start off by saying this place has some amazingly good and authentic mexican food. The quesadillas are so good alone that I would drive 200 miles just to get them and come back, let's not even get started with their mega burrito. Let me just say if you ever stop by buttonwillow, CA. You would be crazy to go to the McDonalds or Carl's Jr. next door. Just saying...basically if you eat here you'll be in a food coma the rest of the day. They include everything you need for the best mexican feast fo your life right in the bag and they have that authentic coke straight out of Mexico and AHH it's just too good! Wow, who would've thought such a place would exist in the middle of trip from LA to SJ off the 5? Was feeling a bit hungry on the way home, and we decided to make a pit stop in Buttonwillow again. Saw a Taco Bell sign, but then saw a sign for Pupusas! We saw a little truck, and opted not to eat there, thinking it was the Pupusa place (which I believe it is, but there's also a restaurant). With TB not being in sight, we decided to have a longer sit down meal at Tita's Pupuseria. We walked to the front, thinking we'd order, but she gave us menus and had us sit down at a table of our choice. At 3:30 PM on a Sunday, the restaurant had a good amount of tables taken. I decided to get two of the pork and cheese pupusas ($2.85 each). Little brother decided on the special, which comes with 2 pupusas of your choice and a side of rice and beans ($9.50 or so - which I don't think it's worth the extra $4!). During our wait, we heard the soccer game on the TV behind us and munched on the tortilla chips and salsa. Salsa was decent, but wish it had more flavor and spice. Eons later, I see the table behind us get their pupusas. I gasped. They were the largest pupusas I have ever seen! Size of pancakes you'd get at IHOP! I was imagining smaller than half the size they were, as that is what I am used to. Ours came out shortly after, and we had a jar of cabbage slaw and hot sauce to go with it. If I knew they were going to be this big, I definitley would've only ordered 1. They were pretty tasty, but I wish it had more substance inside. Since they were pretty thin, I could barely taste the pork, but definitley tasted the cheese, although it was burnt as some had oozed out while cooking it. Went well with the slaw they provided, and added some tapatio for that extra flavor. We both took one each to go, as there was no way we could finish all of that. They also provided us baggies of the slaw to go as well. I reheated it the next day, and it was still good, but not as good as being fresh off the pan. This place did put us out for awhile out of our trip since it takes awhile to receive the pupusas. Also, the service was not great, we had to keep going to our waitress since she never came by, and she gave us our food without any utensils. She then started chatting for awhile with our utensils in her hands. read more

Where else can you find a delicious beef tongue burrito for around $5? Of course at Tita's Pupuseria! (not to be confused with Tito's!). This was probably one of the best beef tongue burritos I've ever had. I can only imagine what it would be like to get a beef tongue taco without all the other ingredients getting in the way. The beef tongue was tender, soft, flavorful and went with the burrito so well. The chicken burrito was pretty good as well and their pupusa was alright ... I didn't think it was all that but their pork taco = deliciouso!!!! We had a whole feast, and I do mean feast for two for two days for around $15 (wow??) and it was right next to Motel 6. There's no better way to be lazy than to grab a feast for two after a long day of sitting around doing nothing at the track and coming back to the motel room to feast and sleep. great restaurant. read more

The loroco y queso pupusa had hardly any loroco - and didn't come with cortida or salsa until I asked for it. It was not the best Salvadoran food I've had. They offer specials for various days of the week so I ordered the special for Saturday - but got charged the regular price and I had to ask why the total was so much higher than expected (and then was given some cash - probably too little as a result). Instead of looking forward to eating here the next time I'm passing through, I probably won't ever come back. This was the second time they overcharged me on a credit card and had to issue a refund. We were heading home on Mon 3/17/08 and wanted to go somewhere to eat dinner. Our plan was to eat at In-N-Out in Kettlemen City, but I saw the sign that said Pupusas, Ice-Cream. I'm so there. So we got off I-5 and found Tita's which is on the Left side. It's a restaurant, but you can also get to-go. We decided to eat there. FREE chips & salsa. I didn't try the chips, salsa to me was kinda blah. I picked pupusa revuelta (cheese & pork) which is a Salvadorean specialty. It was ok, though didn't taste or see any pork. It was kinda burnt on the side which I don't appreciate so made my friend take it. Also comes with a huge tub of cortida (Salvadorean coleslaw) and a mild tomato like sauce. I also got a lengua taco which was fine. Nothing special. Friend also got a pupusa-a squash & cheese one he liked better than mine. I found it fine. He picked carne asada taco I think and he liked it. Our total was $9.75 or so before tip. Service is Slow though. Don't eat here if you're in a hurry. read more
