    So disappointed!!
    Susie B.

I was a little disappointed.I ordered 1.5lb and I said little cuero. They gave me 2lbs of mostly cuero.

I was there for the first time this weekend and bought 7 lbs carnitas and a 1 lbs of buche to go. I was very disappointed as to how dry the carnitas were. I wonder if they gave me day old carnitas. They were so dry and didn't taste like carnitas. I normally pick up from a diff carnitas place but I was in a hurry and this location was closer. Also, the tortillas weren't good either. They had a funny smell. Sadly, my family hardly touched the carnitas. I spent about $100 and I threw most of it away. I gave it one star because the lady that works there was nice. But I won't be returning.

I don't usually write reviews but this is a really bad experience, my wife went to get some carnitas, she ordered 2 lb of maciza and 1 of surtida, they gave her no only a few grams more but over a pound more! Which obviously ended up on more money we had to pay, add to that that even for $60 we didn't even get tortillas, and got 3 small containers of salsa. Worth to say we won't be going back and I would not recommend a place where they rip you off and don't listen to your orders...

As the name suggests, the name of the game here is carnitas! There were renovations going on in the building that is right off the street, so there's a trailer you go to towards the back and order and dine with some benches back there. The service feels pretty standard at taco trucks/stands and the folks were friendly, helpful, and efficient. I also came here on the earlier side because I made stop here in the morning before meeting my brother's family at Disneyland that day. It was already really busy! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Waiting in line with the crowd made me feel like I was at the neighborhood carne asada, haha.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ordered two mixto tacos....but honestly...I could have been good with just one. They are huge. And after topping them off at the salsa and toppings bar...it was almost too much food. And I'm not a small person. The meats were delicious and the salsas were fresh and tasty. Just really delicious tacos. I was able to find street parking nearby. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location of this place feels like the old town / industrial area.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Carnitas and buche; found a metal shard

I really wanted to like this place, but it was a miss for me. A lot of the carnitas pieces had bone in them, which made it hard to enjoy. On top of that, I found a small metal shard that looked like it came from a scrubber sponge -- that was honestly pretty concerning. Flavor was okay, but between the bones and the safety issue, I don't feel comfortable coming back.

The Carnitas were ok. Nothing I would look forward to in the future. The parking situation is terrible. This business within a neighborhood; so there is absolutely no chance of street parking. They do have parking inside but the entrance is very narrow and cars outside block a good portion of the entrance. I will go back and give them another try and perhaps I will revise my rating.

    Carnitas Taco heaven.

I was long overdue for a trip to Carnitas Uruapan and went mid-week with a friend around noon. The carvers are great and loaded us each up with two massively fresh and tasty carnitas tacos with everything (aka onion & cilantro mix) and a wedge of lemon/lime. We grabbed a seat out front sharing the table with two others. As I was eating my first taco, I thought to myself, I can't remember ever enjoying a carnitas taco more than this one. Here's my move...add a little salt on top of the tacos, squeeze the citrus on top, pick up taco, holding tightly, dunk it deeply into the cup of consume followed by splash of any of the three different and super delicious salsas, then stuff it in your mouth. It's the whole package. You can order different parts of the pig when they are making your taco or burrito right there in front of you. I love the food and the people are friendly. A clear 5-Stars again for me on the food. The ambiance is a little lacking out front and I'm not taking the wife there but it is what it is and I'm not marking them down for that. If your goal is to eat at some of the best taco spots Santa Ana has to offer, I think Carnitas Uruapan has got to be on the list.

We ordered the mix carnitas. The majority of it was tripe. The overall flavor was okay, but we won't go out of our way to come back.

The photos caught our eye, but they don't even do justice to the actual experience. The modest facade completely hides the gem buried within; the moment you step through the doors, you are transported into a beautiful, vibrant atmosphere. Despite arriving just before 7:00 PM on a busy Saturday night, we were seated incredibly fast. We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Karla (with a 'K'). Her enthusiasm, attentiveness, and deep knowledge of the menu were top-notch--truly a model for how the entire service industry should operate. As for the food? Out of this world. From the presentation to the flavor, the attention to detail is flawless. It is completely clear that Rosa Madera was created by someone with immense vision and heart, and they've managed to find a staff that shares that exact same passion. We are so hooked that we will absolutely be making the trip back from San Diego with the sole purpose of eating here again. In the meantime, my friends and family are going to get sick of me over the next few days, because I refuse to shut up about this place!

Thanks to Restaurant Week, we stumbled upon this gem, and we are so grateful. The hospitality alone would earn five stars. But then came the food. The tacos? Absolutely exceptional. The steak was tender and flavorful in a way that reminded me of eating throughout Mexico, you could actually taste the meat. A light, gentle pickle of vegetables on top, minimal cheese, nothing heavy or greasy. These are not the American-style tacos drowning in a pound of melted cheese. These are the real thing. The beans were lovely, the rice was solid, and my passion fruit winearita drink was genuinely a treat. Restaurant Week gave us the perfect low-pressure reason to try somewhere new, and we walked out with a new favorite. We'll be back for lunch. We'll be back for dinner. And yes, Taco Tuesday, we'll absolutely be back for that.

To make matters worse, one of our meals was completely forgotten. The service was extremely slow throughout the entire visit. Every time we needed something, whether it was a refill, an update, or assistance, the wait felt excessive. The restaurant may have potential because the food itself was flavorful, but it seemed like they were either understaffed or unprepared for the number of customers they had. Another disappointment was the drink selection. We were told they don't have a liquor license, so hard alcohol isn't available. Their sodas were canned, and when we asked for juice for the kids, they told us they were completely out. As for the atmosphere, the restaurant is on the smaller side and felt more like a converted house than a traditional restaurant, complete with a fireplace and television in the dining area. The food had good flavor, which is the only reason I'm giving more than one star. Unfortunately, the long wait times, missing meal, lack of drink options, and poor service made the overall experience disappointing.

I used to LOVE coming to this place... until I realized their customer service seriously sucked…read more First off, the food is honestly a little on the salty side, but I kept coming back because I liked the place. Then this happened. I brought my family here for dinner, and when we were closing out the check, the server failed to mention that gratuity was automatically added for a party of 6. I didn't realize it until I was about to sign and saw that I was about to leave ANOTHER tip on top of the automatic gratuity. I was like, oh HELL NO, I'm not tipping $80+ So I asked the server to refund the entire transaction and rerun the payment correctly. She told me she couldn't do that, but said she could refund the extra tip instead. I said okay, trusting that she knew what she was doing. We left. Fast forward about 4-6 months later. I come back with different family members, and the MANAGER comes over and tells me I have an outstanding balance of around $150. At first I genuinely thought he was joking. Nope. Apparently, when the server was supposed to refund the extra tip, she accidentally refunded the ENTIRE BILL and kept the tip. ‍ Now explain to me HOW that was my problem?! I specifically told her I wanted the entire transaction refunded so we could start over, and SHE chose to handle it differently. That was THEIR mistake, not mine. And the worst part? Instead of pulling me aside privately and explaining what happened, the manager brought this up IN FRONT OF THE FAMILY I WAS WITH. So now I'm sitting there being told I owe $150+ in front of my guests because of an error THEIR employee made months earlier. Talk about embarrassing. Thank God I'm in a position where I could afford to pay it, so I paid the outstanding amount AND my new bill that day -- over $300 out of pocket -- just to resolve the whole situation. I paid everything they said I owed for both visits, and I have never gone back since. And I WILL NEVER go back. Between the salty-ass food and the customer service, I'll take my money somewhere else. Just sharing my TRUE experience because I think customers deserve to know what happened.
