I've been coming to this place for many years, and one thing has never changed: the quality of the food. It's always delicious, and you can always count on their carnitas being excellent. I have nothing but praise for the food--they're truly top-notch. Unfortunately, my experience with the service on this visit was a completely different story. I want to be fair because not everyone was unpleasant. The young lady at the cash register who took our order was very attentive, polite, and did everything she could to help us. The problem was with the young employee who handed us our food. I simply asked for a small container for hot sauce since our order was to go. You would have thought I was asking for something unreasonable. She immediately responded with an attitude, saying, "We don't give those anymore." I asked, "Then how are customers supposed to take hot sauce with a to-go order?" Instead of responding professionally, she tossed the containers toward me from where she was standing. I was honestly upset enough that I almost walked out and told my wife we should never come back. The only reason I didn't is because I know one employee shouldn't ruin the outstanding reputation this restaurant has built over the years. I didn't catch her name, but I hope the owners or managers read this review and use it as an opportunity to coach their staff. Customers aren't always right, but we do deserve to be treated with basic courtesy and respect. I was there for the first time this weekend and bought 7 lbs carnitas and a 1 lbs of buche to go. I was very disappointed as to how dry the carnitas were. I wonder if they gave me day old carnitas. They were so dry and didn't taste like carnitas. I normally pick up from a diff carnitas place but I was in a hurry and this location was closer. Also, the tortillas weren't good either. They had a funny smell. Sadly, my family hardly touched the carnitas. I spent about $100 and I threw most of it away. I gave it one star because the lady that works there was nice. There were renovations going on in the building that is right off the street, so there's a trailer you go to towards the back and order and dine with some benches back there. I really wanted to like this place, but it was a miss for me. A lot of the carnitas pieces had bone in them, which made it hard to enjoy. On top of that, I found a small metal shard that looked like it came from a scrubber sponge -- that was honestly pretty concerning. The Carnitas were ok. Nothing I would look forward to in the future. The parking situation is terrible. This business within a neighborhood; so there is absolutely no chance of street parking. They do have parking inside but the entrance is very narrow and cars outside block a good portion of the entrance. Maybe the mixed version would've had more flavor, but this one didn't quite hit the mark. On the bright side, the chicharrón was phenomenal--crispy, rich, and easily the best I've had. The beans and rice were also excellent, definitely a 5/5. Parking is limited, so if you arrive during peak hours, expect a tight squeeze. I was long overdue for a trip to Carnitas Uruapan and went mid-week with a friend around noon. The carvers are great and loaded us each up with two massively fresh and tasty carnitas tacos with everything (aka onion & cilantro mix) and a wedge of lemon/lime. We grabbed a seat out front sharing the table with two others. As I was eating my first taco, I thought to myself, I can't remember ever enjoying a carnitas taco more than this one. Here's my move...add a little salt on top of the tacos, squeeze the citrus on top, pick up taco, holding tightly, dunk it deeply into the cup of consume followed by splash of any of the three different and super delicious salsas, then stuff it in your mouth. It's the whole package. You can order different parts of the pig when they are making your taco or burrito right there in front of you. I love the food and the people are friendly. A clear 5-Stars again for me on the food. The ambiance is a little lacking out front and I'm not taking the wife there but it is what it is and I'm not marking them down for that. If your goal is to eat at some of the best taco spots Santa Ana has to offer, I think Carnitas Uruapan has got to be on the list. read more

What made the situation even worse was that she called me a "gringo" and used other verbally abusive words that I understood. Her body language and looks felt intended to humiliate me. I love it when I find these little hidden gems. This place smelled so good from the outside and as I was working in the area I can see they had a steady flow of customers. I felt the urge to try, glad I did! I got 3 carnitas tacos, it was $10 and some change. They gave me two cups for salsa and the salsa's were a great complement to some amazing tasting, perfectly marinated carnitas held in a warm, fresh tortilla. Super simple yet so good!
