I usually prefer TJ Maxx over Marshalls, so it pains me a little to say this, but the TJ Maxx in the Pentagon City area has been pretty underwhelming compared to the nearby Marshalls. Since I now work in Arlington, I visit both stores often, hoping to score the kinds of finds TJ Maxx is usually known for. Unfortunately, I haven't had much luck at this location. I still pop in from time to time out of habit and optimism, but more often than not, I leave empty-handed. Selection & Finds: The selection here feels hit or miss, leaning more toward miss lately. There's a sign for a "luxury" section, which initially caught my attention, but the items there tend to lack the quality you'd expect from something labeled luxury. It feels more like a concept than a well-executed section, which is disappointing when you're hoping to discover standout pieces. Store Experience: One of the biggest challenges with this location is how messy it can be. Racks often feel overcrowded, and items are frequently out of place, which makes browsing feel more like a chore than a fun treasure hunt. Compared to the Marshalls nearby, this store feels noticeably less organized and harder to shop. Service: The associates have been fine overall, but the general store upkeep makes the experience feel a bit rushed and less enjoyable than it should be. Pricing: The prices here can be decent, and I know TJ Maxx is known for good deals, but lately I've noticed more items that feel overpriced for what they are. Sometimes the discounts don't feel as significant as expected, especially when the quality doesn't quite match the price point. It makes it a little harder to justify purchases, especially when I'm not finding standout items to begin with. Overall, I still love TJ Maxx as a brand, but this particular location hasn't lived up to the standard I'm used to. If you're shopping in the Pentagon City area, you may have better luck at the nearby Marshalls. read more

I went there today and accomplished what I intended to do. The store was orderly, not particularly crowded. My issue is what happened when I attempted to use a dressing room. I am a senior citizen and physically handicapped. I need assistance to walk due to massive nerve damage. When I arrived my friend dropped me off and got me a cart so I could shop. I was going to a holiday party the next day and wished to try a sweater on and went to the changing room. I made sure the cart only had my purse and the sweater. I was stopped told I could not use the cart to take me into the room my walker was not in the store and I did not know if I could used it. I was told I had to walk into the room or not at all. In spite of my demonstration of my inability to walk I would not be allowed to enter. I was told I could cling to the wall and enter that way. To my shame I managed to do that and will never let an employee bully into demeaning myself in that way again. When I told all of this to the employee she shrugged it off. TJ will allow me to enter their store, allow me to shop but not allow me to enter their changing area with pride. They humiliated me and took my money. TJ did not accomodate me and my handicap but still took my money. read more

What a disappointing experience. I spent a good amount of time shopping around the store and stopped by the jewelry counter to try on some glasses. After waiting for someone to unlock the case, no one came by. I went to the dressing room area multiple times (about 3-4 times), asking if someone could call for assistance, but each time, I ended up waiting around 10 minutes with no help. Definitely not the kind of service you'd expect when shopping for luxury goods. Eventually, the gentleman from the dressing room took the initiative to assist me, and he was very kind. I finally found a pair of glasses I wanted to purchase. However, when I asked to speak with a manager at checkout and inquired about a small discount for the inconvenience, her response was dismissive. She claimed that someone had already been assisting me (which was not the case) and outright refused, saying they don't give discounts for that. When I explained how long I had waited and mentioned that others were also waiting for assistance, she simply disregarded my concerns and walked away without even an apology. I wasn't expecting anything major--just basic acknowledgment of the poor service. I had a really frustrating and stressful experience at this location. I came in hoping to try on a few items, only to find out that the fitting rooms were closed. When I asked staff members about it, I was given conflicting information--first I was told they were "short staffed" then we asked a cashier and she said "oh I don't know why we closed it we usually close it at 9:30" which obviously looks like no one knew what they were doing or there's just lack of communication/training. Later on to find out they close it at 8pm but I was there before that time along with a friend and another customer waiting around. It honestly felt like they were just trying to avoid dealing with customers, and the lack of transparency made the whole situation worse. Shopping for clothes without being able to try anything on is already inconvenient, let alone customers were trying things on outside on the mirrors which honestly looks so bad for the public. Being mis-led by the staff added unnecessary stress to what should've been a simple shopping trip. Really disappointing. On top of that on our way out, the cashier did not explain about the red tags clearance items so another staff member explained that to us which honestly baffled me because if I were to take that tag off at home thinking it was a sensor, and due to the fitting rooms being CLOSED , what if the clothes won't fit? And honestly the clothes were BIG on me what a waste of time and money. The red plastic tags basically means if you remove it you can't return it. What kind of rule is that? This TJ Maxx is okay. Not bad, not great. It feels sort of small and cramped--it looks like it is two levels, but it's really just small entry that takes you up to the second floor of the main store. I was not impressed by the selection here. The women's clothing section is dominated by fast fashion, cheap-feeling polyester clothing. It's hard to find nicer brands and labels. (Maybe I've just visited on days when the clothing has been picked over.) The jewelry is a pretty but also mostly costume pieces that I wouldn't expect to last for a long time. The pet section was nice, and there was a decent selection of small area rugs. I'd stop in here if I needed something and was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit this store. read more

This TJ Maxx is located in Pentagon City, which means you'll have to pay for parking just to go shopping here (less than $5 for 1-3 hrs. if you park in front of Unleashed/Smoothie King area). It is near The Loft and across Nando's. This TJ Maxx has two levels. The first level is rather compact, with the escalators being located within a few feet from one of the doors. They sell random stuff on the first level, but none of it are clothes or beauty/body products. They're just, random. The second level has all the clothes, beauty/body products, pet products, kitchenware, accessories, etc. It isn't as big as other TJ Maxx locations. Love the beauty/body products. They're much more affordable for quality, brand products. Customer service is average. Once in a while, they get impatient. They're also very pushy with their rewards cards. Lastly, their bathrooms were surprisingly clean for a department store, the one time I went. read more

I would like to be clear, that the store and most of the staff here was friendly and helpful. The issue began when my mom was encouraged to open an account, which she did. The associate entered her previous address which she indicated was not correct both before and after it was processed. The sales associate informed her she would be able to call and fix this issue or change the address online.... My mom is not tech savvy so she called and after three hours and several transfers she was told that they would mail her the change of address information...but to the WRONG address! I called back with her and was informed that to change her address to the correct address she would have to send a five second video of her holding her driver's license, and two proofs of address (they used an example of utility bills or bank statements). Seriously?! To open the account they only asked for her driver's license and social security number, when it comes to changing the address to receive the bill so she can pay it, they want to verify as much as one would have to for a passport. It was just shy of asking for a DNA sample. Five transfers, later, we paid the bill online and closed the account. I asked if we could receive and email for payment confirmation as well as verification for the account closure and you guessed it, "it will be mailed"....to the wrong address ‍ This is ridiculous and unacceptable. A company that is so quick to open an account with little information and virtually no security precautions to protect a person's identity, but makes it impossible to fix a mistake THEY made on an address so the customer can pay their bill; should re-evaluate their policies immediately. Feel free to shop the deals, but know if you open a credit card with them, you will also be opening a can of problems and aggravation. Happy shopping... read more

Very nice TJ Maxx location with a surprising amount of designer clothing for women and a friendly helpful staff. Really appreciated how clean and organized everything was in this store. The men's selection was somewhat limited but I did purchase quite a bit of nice quality women's clothing and they had a good selection of smaller sizes. Downstairs was current season swimwear and sunglasses. Upstairs is everything else and I recommend you check it out! read more

I could go to the opening but made it today. It's much smaller than I thought because they don't have much on the 1 st floor. It's brand new. So it's pretty clean and organized well. Also no clearance. Variety: Clothes, shoes, furniture, toys, cosmetics, bags, accessories, etc... They have high end brands too. Price: Not bad but no clearance so far. Customer service: Nice. I shop at tjmaxx a lot so I tried helping her out and saying that you match the receipt with the bag tags and she snapped and me and said that they don't do that. She then called the manager Sylvie over and they matched the receipt to the bags! When I thanked her she also seemed very dismissive. I was going to shop more after this return but did not want to interact with this cashier again! read more

Stopped in around 5pm on their opening day to take advantage of a stocked and organized store; if there was ever a day to go, today was it! I would say that the handbag department is probably the best, although I did purchase a pair of shoes as well as a pillow in the home section. A lot of Christmas items were in the home area, so after the holidays there will probably be a lot more in that section, but I was quite disappointed by the clothing (women's) department. There really was not all that much; the store is smaller than I expected, so they have obviously fit in all they could. Cashier was realy nice though, and I would definitely stop in again after the holidays. read more

I write this wondering and about to do research on the difference between Marshall's and TJ Maxx, because I don't know. I do know that I like this TJ Maxx. I rarely venture into one but when I do, I end up leaving satisfied. So, I can't speak on real purchases. If I'm in, I am browsing and or killing time. I gravitate toward the cancels and the snacks, other than that, I couldn't care less. My disposable income, is dedicated to Student Loans and my Yelp bookmarks, not bolstering my wardrobe. One day I will. I wouldn't trek to TJ Maxx just for a bag of chips but I like the random chips that they have. No rhyme or reason with them, just like the name-brand items that Aldi has--hecka irregular. I wish I could say something about the return policy or the fitting room but I can't. I can't even shout out the tea I bought last time because I'm certain it won't be there if you go there looking for it. read more

I like TJ Maxx generally (although I'm starting to less and less as I age) but this location pretty much sucks. It's a small one so I find the selection to be quite limited. More often than not do I walk in wanting to buy something and I leave with nothing. That rarely happens to me anywhere if that's my mission! Cashiers have been nice enough, sometimes even friendly, but the fitting room people I have dealt with are downright rude. If I say I have 5 you don't have to shake your head at me "no" then recount them yourself and proceed to give me a "5"tag. This is a new addition to the area and I think it's perfect. It is not very huge but it's got what you need. Home goods are very WELL organized and stocked. They have good merchandise on sale and easy to find your sizes. Fitting rooms are big and well maintained. Cashiers are efficient and friendly. Grand opening, so it is poppin! Free tote bag for first 1000 customers! In addition to the tote bag, they gave a free water bottle, hand sanitizer, and mints. Now I feel super fresh! The men's section isn't too big, but I suppose you could find some cheap items in your size if your willing to search around for a little bit. I don't see myself coming here to often, but maybe for gym shorts, jogging pants, or a belt. Nevertheless, I think it is a solid addition to Pentagon city. read more

I'm a fan of this "type" of store - I enjoy shopping and think it's fun to hunt for a bargain. That being said, I am continually unimpressed with this TJ Maxx. It's small (particularly the shoe section), a complete mess literally every time I visit (many of the racks are mislabeled), and I rarely see employees out on the floor helping customers. As a side note: the people manning the dressing room constantly treat customers like thieves! The last time I visited alone, I handed back several items and was trying to walk out with one I was going to purchase - the woman stopped me to inspect the inside to make sure I hadn't taken the security tag out. Incredibly rude. I'd highly recommend the nearby Marshalls and Nordstrom Rack over this store. read more

The jewelry, lingerie, and coats sections are wonderful! Spent so much money when I was here. I left my earrings as I was trying on other earrings, and when I called later to get them, they were holding them for me and returned them when I came back to the store. Extremely slow cashiers. Even if there are 2 people in front of you it will take 15 minutes to check out. Frustrating how after waiting in line for a while they will announce you can check out downstairs. The people in line in back of you rush downstairs and check out before you even though you've been waiting longer. Please fix the check out system! I shop at TJ Maxx all the time (3+ times a month); however, my recent experience has made me reconsider ever coming back to this location. I picked up an item that didn't have a price (plastic bed risers). After waiting 10 minutes for a price check they brought an item that was 4x more expensive than the item I was purchasing (wooden tray set). How they decided that was similar was beyond me. When I asked why they chose that and countered they told me to check the home goods website because that's the price they sell it for. Avoiding my initial question and making me do the research. Well when trying to log onto the site i found home goods doesn't list their products online, only store locations. Wild goose chase. When I mentioned this to the manager she rolled her eyes and said we can call stores but it will be another 20 min. After waiting 30 minutes, I showed her the prices of the same item at other stores that I could research and the manage said I only care about home goods prices (which she clearly knew I couldn't counter). After a painful process, I ended up leaving empty handed. The TJ Maxx managers at this location should really review the honesty and ethics code in addition to their business model if they want to keep their loyal customers returning. read more
