Seriously, this store is like no other Maxxies in the area... I have two rules for clothing shopping: 1. Don't have your heart set on finding any one particular item. Just welcome what looks good on you. 2. Don't go when you are on your period. Those dressing room lights are brutal enough without adding a few pounds of water weight to the whole mess. Yesterday, I set out to find an Easter dress. And I'm on my period. Hey, I'm a rebel, a rule-breaker! Even my own rules.... Whatever. The Maxx did not let me down. No, I didn't find my Easter dress, but I did find two lovely dresses for other occasions (one for work and the other for my upcoming class reunion). I also found a pair of 7 for all mankind jeans and Steve Madden sunglasses. I'm going to Vegas and I need sunglasses! I didn't need the jeans. But they fit my curves, so they had to come home with me. So, there you have it. A successful shopping trip and broken rules. It's fun for me. read more

There was this crazy Chinese lady named Mae that manned the dressing room. I mean she was like a TJ Maxx Nazi, I even complained to the manager about the crazy bat in the dressing rooms. Mae: You are only allowed 6 items in the room at a time Me: Dude, come on you see me here twice a week! Me: May I please leave these items here to try on later while I keep shopping? Mae: Get a cart! Me (in my head) this isn't a supermarket. I am not putting Tahari in a cart! Fast forward two years to my new job in the city with a new co-worker who becomes a dear dear friend who also has an affinity for TJ Maxx. I tell her about the amazing finds at the store in Moraga... she exclaims: My grandma works there! Me: No way... who is she? Kristie's grandma was Mae. I told her how crazy I thought she was. I love Kristie and her stories about Mae. Later shopping excursions, I would stop and chat with Mae about my friendship with Kristie... but still it was only 6 allowed in! I sat with Mae at Kristie's wedding and could see how proud she was. TJ Maxx now lets your bring in more than 6 items... but I still miss Mae. read more

I wish there was a 5+. Maybe a 10+. This is not my mom's TJ Maxx. This is the TJ Maxx you can probably ONLY find in the middle of suburbia - so maybe people should stop complaining about the inhabitants of surburbia that they encounter. Where else, pray tell, would someone spend $1000 on a purse at TJ Maxx? That's right, $1000 for a $2000 Bottega Veneta handbag. I saw TWO one week and they were gone the next. The new Runway section is a dream for those who love designer classics at "premium" prices. The labels that are carried there: Missoni, Rock and Republic, Theory, Ralph Lauren, La Rok, Ed Hardy, Seven for All Mankind, True Religion, Pucci, and many more. True, this section is not cheap, but it is cheaper! Most of the premium denim (7, R&R, TR) are $100, other are less expensive ($70 for Hudsons). I still love all the other sections, of course. I just bought a Nike Fitdry sports tank for $9.99 ($12 at the outlet even), CK undies and bras, Reebok socks, yada yada yada. My husband loves the golf shirt selection, as well as the slacks. Especially nice is the baby section - lots of toys and books for the little ones. Alas, I am here about once a week, so I can speak to the fact that they get new stuff just about every few days. The TJ Maxx in Moraga is probably the best TJ Maxx that I have seen in the bay area thus far. I live in Alameda and they have one there. It is messy there and the selection is always subpar. The TJ Maxx is Moraga is very clean and well organized. They also have a better selection of clothes and styles. I only started stopping at the discount name brand places this year and i have discovered that the selction at TJ Maxx and Ross are very similar. I went shopping for some board pants for Hawaii a few months ago and I saw the same pants and same prices at both stores. The selection between these store often don't change too much but when you find something you do like, it is a steal. I can only speak for the men's clothing side so maybe there is more of a fresh selection with women's clothes. If you are looking for TJ Maxx to check out..definitely go to the one in Moraga. It is a little ways in off the 24 but it is hidden for good reason. It keeps the diamonds in the roughs at an all time high and i truly believe based on the demographics of the people who live there (Orinda and Moraga being higher income), they have nicer close than the other TJ Maxx stores. Downturn to the economy=okay to abuse discount store shoppers? Update to return policy and customer service, as well as selection are GONE. 1) Items from other TJ Maxx location not returnable. 2) Items from clearance not returnable or exchangeable even with receipt. 3) Poor response from argumentative management. I've been an avid shopper at TJ Maxx and Marshall's for over 15 years, but the recent changes to their return policy are NOT customer friendly and the selection hasn't been as good as in the past. Over the course of two weeks, preparing for vacation, I purchased several items both at this store, and the Alameda store. When I attempted to return all items at Moraga, I was told that I needed to drive them to Alameda because they weren't coming up in their system. Plus one item, which had been randomly hung on the end of an isle when I found it, was apparently a clearance item and "past season". Well no sh*t, isn't that the definition of a clearance rack at a discount store? I was told they couldn't take that item back anyway, because the past season item may have been purchased too long ago (even though it was on my recent receipt). I asked to speak to a manager, who repeated the same strange mantra. So buyer beware! Even with a receipt, items may not be returnable or even exchangeable... So I get in the auto and drive through the tunnel, back past home in Oakland, across the water to Alameda. I've had okay service here recently and the manager is great, meaning he seems to "get it" about the customer service thing. However, today some overlords from corporate were there, who came up, after about 8 pages to get a manager, to help process all the returns. An employee, standing in her own line to purchase shoes and cash her paycheck, informed the employee paging management that the managers were all "in the break room". Great. When they come out, the big guy in charge gets stopped after approving a check, by a sales associate from the floor who is wanting to find out if two purses of the same brand but different style are the same price. Without even looking at the customer who is inquiring about the tag-less item, he starts spouting off: "These just came in today, who's taking the tags off of my damn purses..." and basically yells at the woman inquiring that they rest of them are all over on the rack where she found it, if she could just bring a similar style up. Then he thinks better of it and storms off. It was ridiculous. When I attempted to speak to a manager, I was told that the Moraga store "always does that" (sends people back to the store of origin) and that since my item wasn't in the computer, I couldn't return it. I was so furious, and now own 70.00 of items purchased two weeks ago at a TJ Maxx that I can't use or return. Needless to say, I won't be back. I'd rather go to Nordstrom's so at least I don't have to watch other customers get yelled at or accused or tag-clipping, and can return unused items if I need to. Which is actually what the employee who denied me said I should do..."there are a lot of other stores open around here, our policy had to be updated and this is a very good place for us employees to work..." Although this store has designer bags, sunglasses, cloths, etc the place is a MESS, with cloths all over the floor. Nothing is in size order. The designer bags are late model designs. Jewelry selection is good. Cosmetics, haircare and skincare packages are all open, nothing is in order so that you can find it. Shoes all over the place. This store makes my head spin. I am rating this T J Maxx store in relation to their other stores at which I have shopped in NY, LA, the Bay Area, Dallas/Ft. Worth, and Reno. This is, hands down, the BEST T J Maxx store at which I have shopped. It has the best selection of stock...high end merchandise, variety of sizes and colors, of the moment styles...this T J Maxx has it all, as well as their famously low prices. The most I have ever spent in one trip to a T J Maxx store is a little over $800, and that was at Christmas time. However, a few days ago I walked out of this store with a tab of $1483.69 for 44 items. I had to leave in order to make it back into the city for a spa appointment or else I would have bought more. Thus, I had to return the following morning, where I only spent another $357.00. In fact, maybe you shouldn't shop here...unless you have some SERIOUS impulse control. If I could have afforded it, I could have bought so much more, because there were so many good, superior quality purses and shoes here. I'm the type that can't rummage. I usually avoid stores like ROSS, Nordstrom Rack, and any thrift stores just because I'm not good at rummaging. TJ Maxx, however, is a whole new ball game for some reason. I don't know if it's this particular location, or the type of clothing they sell, or the organization. Maybe I can tolerate it more because it's smaller than other stores. Anyway, I almost always find something to walk out with at TJ Maxx. As a peformer, I'm always on the look out for black clothing I can wear in performances and TJ Maxx is one place I always go to. read more

I love TJ Maxx! I live within walking distance, but normally have to drive regardless considering the bags of clothing I buy on a typical trip there. Everything is discounted to an awesome price. They have a fairly new section (I believe it opened up last year) which has designer labels left and right--all discounted by hundreds of dollars. Even if you don't want designer clothing and/or accessories, the entire rest of the store has some really great stuff for really great prices. They have everything from bedding, kitchen items, and general house decor to baby clothes, children's clothing, womens and juniors clothing, men's clothing, PJs, lingerie, shoes, purses, etc. Yes, sometimes their store is messy (it's a discount store, after all), but it doesn't typically get out of control. The only thing I debated knocking off a star for is their customer service. There can be a very short line that takes around 15 minutes to get through just because their cashiers can't get things done in a timely manner. You can always see the people in line exchanging irritated looks with each other. The changing room staff are always snobby as well--you can count on it. However, since I don't go to TJ Maxx expecting 5-star service, I decided it wasn't enough to take away a star! Plus, it sure beats the heck out of Ross. read more

Best TJ Maxx EVER! Check back frequently, as stock varies, but whenever a new season starts, they have an amazing selection of designer duds. Can't believe they have shoes in my size, too. I never walk out empty handed. Probably came on an off day. First time here. Would not drive all the way just for runway section. Browsing Tjmaxx runway online was more interesting. Was greeted with $19.99 "hot kiss" flare distressed jean rack as i walked in. Not sure why it was at the front... 4 for nice welcoming people that work here. Team seemed solid, heard people being requested to help out fitting rooms. 2-3 for selection. Shoes: boc, coach, guess foam platforms ... Saw lucky brand necklaces as well as betsey johnson skull necklaces ~19.99. Womens fitted orange plain tshirt from Rugby (Ralph lauren discontinued label). Something like $35 down to $24.99. Prefer to wait for this tees clearance price 10 bucks perhaps. It looks like a $5 cotton polyester tee. Made in China label. Not an amazing find. Womens one stall bathroom was odd. Sit on the toilet and the slanted mirror facing you reveals your girl down under. Got up to wash my hands only to realize there's no mirror in front. Need to turn back to that creepy slanted mirror to do another check. * dressing room elderly lady is a pro. Tried on 16 things in two fittings. She didn't even bat an eye, said thank you and calmly hanged everything up. Just courteous and sweet~ read more

This place is exempt from my general disdain for suburbia and shopping. The most organized discount shopping possible... and the best merchandise of any discounters. The most efficient location for those of us who shop based on need. Although consumption fanatics will appreciate this place too. Yes, it's a hike, but if you are already driving to shop in the nearby cities, it'll be worth your while to stop by. I once rain into a friend who drives from Oakland Hills, through the Tunnel, to shop there. Check out the Home Goods store in the same plaza while you are at it. First off, I'm not a fan of Ross. There are always huge lines and its hard to find anything as the place is always a mess. I grew up in Moraga so I went to TJ Maxx much more than Marshalls or Ross. They have great brands and huge savings. They even carry my favorite - Max Studio. What I like most of all, the lines for the most part are short and the store is kept quite clean. TJ Maxx in Moraga is my favorite -- although I live and work closer to the TJM stores in Concord and Pleasant Hill. This store is larger and has a much better selection of merchandise. Customers seem to keep their kids under better control here and merchandise and shoes are not strewn all over the floor. So it seems to me that customers and./or store staff do a better job here making this a more friendly environment for other customers -- compared to the Concord and Pleasant Hill stores. I also enjoy the designer section at the Moraga store although there is not much in my size. Today I scored with a RL turtleneck, patent croc loafers, a kicky print jeans jacket, slacks, jeans, and a nightgown for less than $130. Full price would have been at least $300. read more

Designer items at discounted price. This particular location seems to have a vast selection of big designers, compared to others. If you love handbags, this is the place to be. We saw a Kate Spade handbag for $140. And an MK purse (originally priced at almost $500) was $160. There were a lot of MK handbags to choose from. I loved the big home decor section. This is such a great store! Mostly because the selections are great...it's got everything from Juicy to BCBG to Seven to Gucci to Prada. Yep, this store has a runway collection so be prepared to find some wonderful shoes and handbags. And, I love how there's always something "new" every time I go in. My biggest problem would be that the Clearance/Sales SUCK! Granted, everything here is already discounted, but I love seeing that extra red clearance sticker. It took me two attempts to get here and finding it with screwy Mapquest directions was no easy feat, but I must say, it's well worth it. The Cypress location manager Syed is rude. I purchased two necklaces from another location. I have the tags and receipt and Syed refused to return them telling me the tags don't match and to take them back to the store I bought them from. (Really insinuating I'm involved in wrong doing) On the receipt it says jewelry/accessory with no description. When you purchase no one checks the jewelry tag but when you return they inspect and go to the computer for a description. They did deny my return! If you make purchases from TJ Maxx get a manager to look up the jewelry you are buying and write a description on your receipt with that their signature for your protection and also so you don't get accused of swapping jewelry. For me I don't be shopping at TJ Maxx anywhere ever again! read more

I love this TJ Maxx. No other one seems to be quite like it. The boutique section is great. Although it is not the cheapest stuff in TJ Maxx it is still affordable considering the markdown. I get all my designer jeans there for literally half off and its great for finding that little something you need for a friend. I have found some great deals on purfume there as well! Now take in mind you are in a TJ Maxx. It is not going to be the cleanest, the workers are not going to be the most helpful, in fact at time they can be downright annoying. But you don't come here for the amazing customer service, you can go to Nordstrom for that. However the quality of the clothes they have and the variety are great. read more

It's a nice store. Pretty clean, nice selection. They have a designer "runway" section and some non-fashion things (stationary, small home appliances, linens, dog stuff ect). The only negative comment I have is about the manager who was on duty when I went to return some items after the holidays. The cashier helping me and the other one were both doing returns at the same time and were having some difficultly with it. I'm sad to write this because every other time I've visited the store it's been great. A week ago I purchased a set of containers, which had scuff marks and a tag that was ripped half way off. Thankfully, i had the manager ring me up and informed her of the scuff marks and ripped tag. She informed me that it would be okay to return as long as i have the original receipt and tags on the items. Today i returned the items, unused, tags still on, same as it was when i purchased it. The cashier rudely stated that it looked used and the tag was ripped. She asked me three times if i was sure i didn't use it. She kept saying, there is cat hair all over it. I apologize , that my dogs hair was on it due to the fact that it was sitting on floor, unused. I informed her of the conversation I had with the manager when I purchased it. She then proceed to say it looks used. Another manager was kind enough to return my items when I explained to her the conversation I had with the manager who originally rang me up. I love Tjmax and will continue to shop at their store, just not at this location. read more

I've been living in the Lamorinda area for close to 20 years now and I've seen this place from allowing itself carelessly being shoplifted by outsiders and then trying to "improve" once the residences started to complain of people shoplifting, opening beauty products to "test" the product, leaving it disgusting and with very noticeable chunks taken from the products. I'm not sure how you are dealing with this situation, TJ MAXX, but obviously you're not doing it at all in the right way. Firstly, to follow around people who you think are shoplifting and not noticing the old lady standing a few feet away from me, placing things in her pocket, bad choice, don't you think? Not only did you follow me, you and your entire staff STALKED me, and not very slyly, I might add. I've been in retail for a good 5+ years, and I would love it if you would take note on this, shoplifters don't come around when it's dead in the store, they tend to come when it's busy! I've been to this store when it's crazy busy and there are people shoplifting left and right, opening and thinking they have a right to "test" products out in the open. Never, have I seen your staff try and stop them. It's usually a person who lives in the Lamorinda area that is informing your staff! And to make it seem like you're all working and caring for the store, not only do you harass the wrong people, you stalk them at the wrong time of the day! Whoever is training this "team" needs to educate them on what to watch for when it comes to watching out for shoplifters and how to approach them IN A CAREFUL MANNER! STALKING and HARASSING is NOT how to handle the situation. If you really want to do a better job with this store, why don't you actually WATCH people who are openly opening your products, they're doing it RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU! Stop harassing the residences and start watching the REAL shoplifters who are RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU! Oh, and start cleaning up your aisles and when a moisturizer looks like complete shit and has obviously been opened and tampered with, don't toss it around the store thinking some idioit is going to pay for a half empty, greasy and soaking, nasty jar of who knows what! Doesn't matter if it's on clearance, I would rather pay full price at Sephora than get the 50% retail price on a used and handled not very carefully product! read more

Love this location! They've got the designer section and a decent selection of work out gear (yoga pant wearers unite!), both of which make me happy. If one is to be a truly successful shopper, you have to come often to see what is in stock. Most of the staff members are helpful, with one exception of a seriously downer-Debbie fitting room attendant. Though of course it's no Nordstrom in looks, service or price (woo-hoo!) so I always go with that expectation. read more

Most of it is still too much for me to feel good about a purchase, but this last trip I found my favorite style of Joe's Jeans in my size for $80.
