I'm new to the area and was craving steak tips. I saw a few reviews describe this as a dive bar?! Though you can tell it's well loved by the locals and though I love dives, this is absolutely not the case! [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was surprised by the ambiance and setting. Everyone from staff to patrons was incredibly warm and friendly :) I also appreciate any bar that delivers your drink garnish skewered. I ordered my tips med rare and though my tips varied between more rare (pictured) and more well, I was very satisfied with my meal and the price! Very friendly and helpful staff! The place was buzzing with activity but service was excellent - Very attentive. There are several seating options, from outdoor deck to bar seats to high tops to dining room. We weren't starving, so we shared a meal. No grumbling from the waiter. One of the specials was a Shrimp Po Boy, which was delicious. The shrimp was fried in a light, non-greasy batter, almost tempura style. A generous portion was stuffed into a grilled hotdog roll and served with the sauce on the side. It was kind of a Cajun remoulade sauce and it was very good. We also used it to dip the accompanying steak fries into. My only regret was forgetting to take a photo. Next time, for sure! read more

Had a great lunch there today - the hamburger was delicious! Thick and juicy - almost 2 inches thick. Ordered it medium and it came exactly that way. Best burger I have had in a long time. Got onion rings instead of fries and I will now always get these instead. They were very tasty and lightly battered. This place is one of a very few that have delicious lunch specials for around $10. If the phone is busy while trying to order take out, it goes to a fax machine... a bit odd. Drove over and placed a take out. 30 minute wait so I decided to have a cocktai at the bar.... Yeah Right... Good luck getting bar service. Sat for 10 minutes with a $20 in my hand to be ignored. Walked out to sit in my car to wait for the take out. They lost out on what likely would hve been $20+ bar charge - and tip! Take out.... should have taken the hint from the bar service.... The only pasta offered is rigatoni - which was actually ziti.... Both the Veal and Chicken parm were over done and under sauced. No salads for $15 each meal - and stale bread... This place has been there for 30+ years and shows it. I used to go here only because I could walk home at last call... well, that hasn't changed - but the food and service certainly have. We have been going for at least 20 years - since college. Today - July 21,2019... we went after church for the Sunday brunch. We mentioned to folks from church, from Ashland, do you want to meet at T J's for Sunday brunch. Everyone said, NO !!! We went. Bad. Really bad. I can see why no one wanted to join us. It has gone down hill. It was dark. The lights weren't up or something was wrong... a young girl with long brown hair was seating people and it was nearly empty. She was 'confused', and seemed like - Why am I here. We mentioned it being dark and the waitress said, 'I guess the lights aren't turn up.' And it remained - dark. Items on the buffet were not getting replaced... some items like basic pancakes, and English muffins. The eggs were dry, the home fries actually brown and greasy. You couldn't even see the buffet... it was dark. But, everything seemed gray, over cooked and greasy or things just weren't there. The young tall boy - man - who was cooking was tall awkward, wearing a black Nike shirt... gossiping with a young chubby blondish guy about a 'Luke' - if I recall - who accused someone of stealing money, got in a fight, and then discovered that the person they or he was accusing never took it... the money. They were ha ha ha-ing about it. He - the tall boy - man - stretched putting his hand on the ceiling, and suddenly started making punching motions with his fist at another young man who was busing tables. Who wants to hear gossiping as you eat. Who cares. We go there to eat and have discussions at our table... why should we listen to 'the help' - workers - gossip, carry on, act out, and talk loudly. Then the aggressive punching motions like you see at a sports game, and the chubby younger man was egging it on as if to prove how masculine he was or that he too could join in. And NO ONE said anything. How about... shut up, get off the floor, stop congregating, get back to work and do your jobs. How about some adult taking control... but, noooo. The blond waitress seemed tired, not interested, and had an - Oh, well - attitude. The tall guy or cook seemed 'not right' or off. This was all on the main floor and NO ONE was taking care of the buffet or refilling it. It was a mess. Dark. Kids and workers just hanging out. No one seemed to care. We won't be going back for awhile. The bar seemed busy, so if you're into drinking it seemed to be busy. Maybe it's just becoming a booze and go kinda place. There is also one really - REALLY -very UNPLEASANT woman always seems angry, indignant, and as if she is going out of her way to wait on you... sometimes she tends bar. She seems to hate life and everyone. Didn't see her today. But we always avoid her. I just don't think we'll be going back. No one seems to care. It is what it is. From the minute we sat down I knew we should have gotten up and left. The food was mediocre and the atmosphere was that of a crowded bar...which is basically what it is. Oh and then they only take cash and Venmo which is not noted anywhere that I saw prior to trying to pay. Yelp even says they accept credit cards. I've worked in food service and always leave at least 15% tip even if everything is subpar but the little I left was was undeserved. There are a lot of great restaurants in this area. A pickle was placed on top of grilled cheese without being wrapped which soaked through bread & made it a Pickled grilled cheese sandwich. My husband and I went to TJ's for the first time last night. I was not sure which door to go in. A waitress happen to glance my way and came right over to see if she could help. I mentioned it was our first time here. I received a big smile and a welcome. Come on in, I will show you around. they were quite busy, but she took a few moments to make sure we felt at home. She introduced us to the woman who would be our waitress. another big smile. I felt like I was on vacation. What a great vibe this place has. I already decided I was going to become a regular, no matter what the food tasted like. We ordered fried clams and fried scallops. One with French fries, one with onion rings. these were the best clams and scallops I have had in years! I love to cook, and we enjoy dining out and trying new places often. Both casual and fancy. We found a gem at TJ's. I talked to both the waitresses again before we left. Sadly, I did not get their names. I felt like I made some new friends. This restaurant is on the Ashland/Hopkinton border and a mainstay for home cooked meals. Before covid and outdoor dining, this old time eatery was a favorite of many surrounding towns. They became nimble and set up an expansive socially distant dining experience outdoors. The parking lot is huge but pretty tough. Not s problem. My lady friends and I decided to eat here on a sunny day and had lunch on the deck. We both ordered the the burgers with fries and onion rings. My friend wanted hers week done, mine medium. Josh, our server was excellent from beginning to end because this does not end well. As we were eating these wonderfully stacked sandwiches, generous with the ingredients, we entered areas of red meat, uncooked and mushy to the chew. It was awful. I called Josh over and showed him. He took this off the bill and we left dissatisfied but since this was not his fault, I did too him for his courteous service. Will I be back? If course. I've eaten here before for a fund raiser inside. My meal, which I forgot, was excellent. Will I ever get a burger here again? Probably not but be aware this could be a problem if you do. read more

my husband and i are still new-ish to the area, and haven't yet found our "home" bar/restauraht. the first time we went to TJ's, we looked at each other and just knew we had found it. the staff is very friendly, in a no-nonsense kind of way. they're quick to pour you a drink (which is a good thing) and you're unlikely to ever have an empty glass. their draft beers are a good reflection of some MA staples, including locals like Start Line. i don't drink anymore, so I can't indulge in their famous mudslide, but their bartenders have made me some pretty tasty virgin frozen drinks, so i definitely can't complain. when it comes to the food, everything has been really good across the board. we've had fried ravioli and chicken wings, as well as pasta dishes, a burger, and their chicken parm sub. the food is very comforting, clearly homemade, and plentiful in portion. if you're looking for a Cheers kind of vibe with dependable, good food TJ's is definitely your place. it's ours! read more

They have a breakfast buffet that didn't look very appetizing, but they also have a small, but adequate breakfast menu. I got steak tips, scrambled eggs, potatoes and an English muffin. I think all of that came to about $10. Definitely a bargain and the portions were huge. The steak tips were outstanding and the eggs were fluffy and moist. A couple of us got the tips and all were happy. The ambiance here is that there really is not any ambiance. The place is very basic.
