We like the chill wear-sweats-if-you-want atmosphere, great service, and solid pub food. It's very much a "locals' place". Burgers, bar pizza, wings, steak and cheese sub, fish n' chips, cobb salad, and chicken parm over penne are our go-to faves and their hand-cut fries are practically a food group. Oh, and they're on DoorDash, now, too. If it gets super busy (think game day) the service can slow down a bit, but that's to be expected at any establishment. We went to the Rose Garden and met up with a buddy who recommended it when I said that there was no way we were going to meet at the country club because I was dressed like a lumberjack. From the outside it looked like a typical local dive bar. On the inside was a warm cozy comfortable bar with clientele most of whom were dressed like me. The bartenders and waitresses were extremely friendly and accommodating. There is a large selection of draft and bottled beer. The pizza is good (their specialty) but the nachos are great they are prepared with several layers of toppings like a lasagna with cheese and meat on every layer of taco chips. Well, it's always nice to find a hidden treasure. Rose Garden in Upton, MA is definitely a diamond in the rough. Unpretentious in its outward appearance, it has that charming cozy comfortable feel when you get inside. I felt like I could get used to coming here a lot. Not sure exactly why, but there was just a friendly charm to this little local pub. I only hopped inside because I was looking for a quick drink and had a few minutes to kill. But I was intrigued enough to order a plate of wings to boot. Oh man. They were delicious! Meaty and just the right amount of heat. The dressing it came with was a bit thin. I'm a thick blue cheese guy. But hey, the wings were phenomenal. Beer selection was pretty limited, with only 4 on draft. But they had a good local craft option, so points for that. My husband found this place and boy am I glad he did. Great food at super affordable prices. I just had one of the best Cobb salads I've ever had. Couldn't even finish it so yayyy for leftovers. Excellent clam chowder. Sure, it's a tavern. I affectionately call it my favorite saloon. It has a friendly staff and friendly patrons. Plenty of parking. Can get a bit noisy but everyone is having a fine time We eat out often, and frequently at pricier places. But we've begun hitting here almost weekly. Never had a bad meal yet. And with inflation being what it currently is, that's an added plus. Whatever they pay the chef, he's a keeper for sure. They really know what they're doing. read more

If first impressions were everything, I might not have gone inside. The outside is a little plain looking and I, as I drove by, thought it was a Chinese food place.. A couple of friends took me there and I really had a good time. The interior is simple and clean, the food is really good and the service has always been good for me. Customers are always really friendly as well.. I love the pizza, their burger is worth it and the hand cut fresh french fries are cooked to perfection.. Now for the issues, the place is a little dated, the restrooms need to be gutted and renovated, the exterior needs to be updated as well. It looks like a barn, not really saying what it is.. Went here last night for food and drink with my sister and girlfriend. Not to busy, we sat down and grabbed a menu. We observed and a waiter and waitress both at a table of about 10 behind us chatting it up with the customers. Well after about 10 mins the waitress left and walked right by us not saying a word. The Rose Garden is a townie pub. Anyone who says otherwise is probably a townie. Now don't get me wrong, Im not saying I don't like the RG, Ive been there plenty of times, shooting pool, watching the Red Sox, getting absolutly fucking SHATTERED. Let's just say the place has an expiration date on it and I think I may have hit mine. The folks have moved out of Upton, so my chances/reasons to head to the RG for a bite to eat and way too much rum seem to be few and far between now, but it may still happen. If you don't know of any good restaurants or bars in Upton, it's because there aren't any. EXCEPT for the Rose Garden. This place has everything you need from a comfortable bar setup (with a pool table, KENO, and jukebox!) and plenty of space for family and group dining. I used to come to the Rose Garden for their juicy burgers and dirty martinis, but now I also come for their brick oven pizza. What a great addition to their menu, the BBQ chicken is my favorite. As far as french fry choices, they pretty much have them all. Curly, hand-cut, or home made chips. I've tried them all and they're all delicious. And there's plenty of beers on tap to pair with your appetizers or dinner. Bottom line is this place is perfect for any type of diining or drinking out experience that you're looking to have. When we stumbled into the Rose Garden, we were happy to find a pleasant watering hole, but the real coup is the food. I was stunned at how tasty the food is -- I would disagree with the reviewer who pegged it "greasy pub fare" -- it is really, really good comfort food. I have tried alot of the dishes -- from the grilled cheese to the cobb salad to the grilled chicken dinner, while the BF is stuck on the jalapeno burger. This is an inexpensive bar that serves decent pizza and burgers. From what I hear they've improved the food quite a bit throughout the years. The bar scene is full of locals and you're bound to meet some very kind and interesting people. However, the bartender absolutely ruined my experience. As I was having my first drink of the evening I spilled my beverage... the bartender was helpful and got me some napkins, but would not serve me another drink. I was not intoxicated, nor was I driving home that evening. I understand that she was trained not to over-serve and she did offer me anything non-alcoholic as a substitute. She either did not want my business or was using poor judgement. I absolutely cannot recommend a bar that will not serve you beers if you accidentally spill one. Ordered a cheeseburger for my wife. Got it home and found the top bun in three pieces, veggies on burger limp/wilted. She said the burger was nothing like it used to be. A couple of years ago the food was great. You got what you ordered, and the cook took pride. Now? It's sloppy bar fare that only a true alcoholic would get into, if only to keep their system from becoming too vitamin deficient. The Rose Garden is a bar. Period. They have great wingdings, nachos, and Fries which we know is incredibly important at a bar. The sandwiches are awesome definitely get the pastrami Rachel special or if you're hungry some great Italian the chicken parm is classic. Awful service. Mediocre Food. Overpriced. Unorganized. To start, the food was average at best and was everyone was pretty disappointed with their meals. They overcharged us by adding $2 to doubling the prices they list on their menu for several items. When this was brought up to them they only offered to repay $3 of the $15+ that was overcharged. On top of overcharging us on most of our order, they had the order completely wrong when we went to pick it up. Our order had the wrong name on it as well as had half of another customer's order on there causing us to wait longer. When we called to express the issues with our order we were told to call back several times and the lady answering the phone was no help. She made absolutely no attempts to rectify the issue or apologize. We were never able to actually speak with the manager directly. read more

I am a huge fan of the Rose Garden !.....The food is great and well priced to the point of being under-priced !......The servers are knowledgeable and personable while being quietly efficient and unobtrusive......The parking is excellent...The interior is spacious and well organized...The entire place including the bathroon is clean and spotless !.....On thursday evenings there is music upstairs in a very large listening room.....I am very very impressed with the quality of musicians and musicianship.....Its very much a converation amongts friends....truth be told I have just recently begun going there to the tune of 4 times.....i will continue on doing so and will definitely enjoy the varieties of music on thursday evenings.....highly recommended !....Thank you !....MK read more

I just had a horrible experience at this place. We sat for 25 minutes and never got acknowledgement from staff. No AC- so it felt like a sauna inside. My friend went to bar to try to get someone's attention but they failed to give her the time of day. I could easily go on and on but all you need to know is this place really bad.
