Good food at a good price, great atmosphere. A go to restaurant! Meal selections are plentiful, the chili is awesome!

There is a significant service and management problem at this restaurant. My family and I went for St Patrick's Day, as we have before. We asked the manager for some napkins to prop up the wobbly table and he said (quote) "Why don't you tell your kid not to stand on his chair" and walked away. The kid in question was literally sitting in his chair with one foot against the table. We explained to the manager the impact of what he said, and gave him multiple opportunities to apologize. We get it: its St Patrick's Day in an Irish bar and it's stressful. But instead of recognizing that he snapped: he doubled down and tried to convince us that his language fine, and that we were in the wrong for calling him out. I even talked with him an hour later, after it had cooled off, and he continued to be aggressive and dismissive. A bad manager is one thing. But our server didn't acknowledge the awkwardness (even as other families watched in shock), just trying to rush us out. The food was probably the worst it's ever been at Stone's, which raises questions of why. It's understandable to have a bad day, it's *not* ok to set the tone for your staff and establishment that berating your customers, unprompted, is acceptable. read more

Terrible. Infested with flies, food is drastically overpriced. Service is very slow and not friendly. 0/10 would not recommend, will not come back. In this day and age, at these prices, something needs to be actually special. I've had better food and service at dive bars and $2 taco joints. The hostesses were on their phones when we came in and continued scrolling as other parties came in. Our waitress was condescending and rude. Our busboy / runner spilled the food all over the table and haphazardly cleaned it up. And all throughout, flies landing on everything as other in the reviews have said. The muscles were good and it was a great portion for one of their smaller plates. The broth at the bottom of the bowl was a bit salty for my taste. Followed up with the scallops and they were okay. On the ride to this restaurant, I found Ashland to be a very inviting county looking place. It was suggested to me to try this restaurant, it's everything you would want in an Irish pub. The menu items are thoughtful and different along with some classics. Of course, I got the most expensive thing on the menu the seafood stew, and my friend got the fish and clam "chowdah" which he said, was very decadent. When you walk in there's a nice ambience, fireplace is going, the wait staff was incredibly kind. I will definitely be back.!!! read more

Recently, I had the opportunity to meet up with a former colleague and friend at Stone's Public House -- mostly because it's roughly halfway between where we live. But I know from past experience the (mostly comfort) food is good. It fit the bill perfectly for this get together. I love the eclectic ambiance. It's definitely an old, historic building -- but there are modern comforts mixed in with the old. The staff is great, and I would describe the food as "good." Nothing fancy or exceptional, but always good. I had clam chowder and a salad while my friend had a burger. We were both very happy with our meals. The dining in experience is good at Stone's but unfortunately not the take-out. They make good sandwiches so once in a while we order them to go, from the Reuben to the smoked salmon BLT to the lobster roll in the summer. Multiple times, the mixed greens that we've ordered as a side were black and rotting. We ordered again but made a point to ask to please give us fresh greens, but it hasn't worked. Recently we gave them another chance and ordered lobster rolls to go only to find when we got home that they were only half filled. If we had been at the restaurant we could have sent them back, but we weren't. We called the restaurant who offered to give us a $10 refund, but it still didn't make up for the fact that we spent $80 for 2 lobster rolls with only enough lobster meat for 1 roll. I would assume that the kitchen staff was having a bad day, but added to the ongoing rotting greens issue it's time we don't bother with Stone's any more and just order from Jack's Abby which serves delicious sandwiches with huge portions and the sides are always super fresh. Let me tell you that I went to this place particularly for the seafood stew (Cioppino). I've tried this dish in many places, even in San Francisco, CA where this dish was created and it doesn't compared. It was excellent! Seafood was fresh and broth was spicy! It could easily be in the 1st or 2nd place competing with my top rated place at a restaurant in Bar Harbor, Maine. Also tried their salted caramel cheesecake. Solid pub with pretty decent staples. My steak was rare while I ordered medium rare, which is actually great, because I love it rare but usually don't order it. This is such a solid place. I've been here various times and the meals are always filling and delicious. It's a lot of New England tavern staples and some dishes with a modern twist. There's always a decent tap list too. My favorite room is the bar with the giant fire place but all the spaces are cozy. Servers are always friendly and attentive. read more

Don't go on a weekend night without an advance reservation. You will starve to death on a waitlist just waiting for someone to cancel their reservation so you can be seated. Crazy. BUT, it is worth the wait if you have the time. Just get a reservation, because they were right on top of seating people quickly who had reservations. ------ Corrections to note the restaurant has posted on open take after I had posted under an old reservation incorrectly: We were not served, so I shouldn't have put the rating down. Based on my past experiences, the waitstaff has been very good, so I changed so nobody would misinterpret that service is bad. It's not. Is good. 2 corrections to restaurant note: I was not told a 50 minute wait. I was told 'it could be up to 30 minutes. I called on the phone ten Minutes before we arrived and was told the same thing, that's why we went there. If we had been told the wait was 50 minutes, we wouldn't have come at all. Since a waitress asked me to move from where I was standing and waiting, and I was tired of standing, at 6:30pm I asked how much longer it could be. And they told me there hasn't been any cancellations. So I said, 'we only get seated if someone doesn't show up?' She said yes. So my daughter and I went out to sit with my wife who had already gone out to wait in the car. While sitting in the car talking, it popped up in OpenTable that I had left the waitlist. So the restaurant removed me from the waitlist. Looking back, maybe I should have said we are going to go sit in our car, but I didn't think it was a problem because we gave our cell number and was waiting for a text and had seen other people come from their car responding to a text. So when I saw you had canceled us off the waitlist, I wasn't going to go back in and argue about it, we just left. AND we were not mad, we will come back. We were tired. And my point was to have a reservation on a busy night. Don't think that just because there are seemingly plenty of empty tables that being on a waitlist on a busy night is going to get you seated. I have been living in Ashland for two years and finally got to try this place! Our waitress (I think her name was Hannah) was so sweet and had such a good personality. The service was top tier. We loved all the food that we got. I had a side salad with my sandwich and the portions were huge. The fries my boyfriend got were perfectly crispy and he liked the sauce on the pulled pork. It had a little kick to it but nothing too crazy. I got a white sangria that the waitress suggested and my boyfriend had an old fashioned. We both liked our drinks. If you like historic homes, this place is right up your alley. Beautifully preserved and well appointed, the fireplace was warming guests in one of the dining rooms. Being a Saturday evening, it was bustling and we'd wisely made reservations. I arrived early and our waitress was more than accommodating. I had my cocktail in no time and she checked on me while I waited. Despite the crowd, we felt no pressure to hurry and enjoyed the experience. I decided upon the Pan Seared Mustard Crusted Atlantic Salmon with Warm German Potato Salad. It was just amazingly delicious. Portions were generous but not overkill. We both left without doggy bags but had room to share dessert and not be uncomfortably full. I wish I could recall the exact dish my date ordered. I'm not a steak fan, but believe it might have been the sirloin. He had mashed potatoes and opted for carrots over the offered asparagus. From all reports, and the clean plate, it was very good. We shared a flourless chocolate cake with raspberry compote - it was absolutely the perfect ending to a stellar meal. read more

There are a lot of things to like about this place. It's got a cool atmosphere, it's got a very friendly staff. There's a warm and friendly feel about it. It's probably a terrific place to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink with friends. As far as the food goes, both our lunches today were OK. Not quite Sysco food, but not that far off unfortunately. I wasn't feeling overly hungry, but I thought a salad would be a perfect call. The only one I saw on the menu, read well, Milanese, chicken and arugula salad. Beside the obvious ingredients, the chicken was really a glorified fried piece of chicken. It was good sized, but lacked flavor. It was pretty dry. There was a drizzle of balsamic on the salad, but otherwise nothing outstanding about it. The other meal was the fried eggplant sandwich. It comes on a very thick roll with not a lot of eggplant, and nothing memorable about it. Fries came with the eggplant. Those were really good. Decided to properly check this place out when taking my mom for a bday dinner out. So glad to see they were open on a Monday night! We've sat at the bar before, but never tried Stone's for dinner. We sat in the dining room to the right. It's a dark restaurant - its part of the charm/ambience, no biggie, but neither of us could see the menus. Really just a heads up if you're one of those folks who sometimes needs the ol' smartphone camera -- you will need it there! Our waitress was lovely. Great with answering our few questions as new diners, our waters were refilled consistently, pace and friendly nature were great. Offered us appetizers, drink refills/more cocktails, desserts... We'd gladly sit at her table again. I'm just sorry I don't remember her name. But generally, big kudos to the staff all around. Great folks! The food - ehhhhhh. Mom had the mustard crusted salmon, I had the petite filet. We got the mashed potato and asparagus as sides to share. Everything was over salted. It's a chef's choice, but I ended up skipping the sauces on my plate altogether. The filet looked like it was butchered, and I don't mean by a professional - it was kinda mangled. When I come into the area for work, I have to hit up Stone's. They pour some of the best Guinness outside of Ireland. It's a must-have. I like, but not love, the Irish breakfast. They cook almost everything well, the beans are more American than Irish/English - but for me, that's a positive. The miss is no potato and no brown bread. I got the rye bread, and it's at least a close 2nd to brown bread. The white and black pudding was the only thing a little over cooked. The whole place does remind me of some of the Irish pubs I spent time in while in Ireland, and the bartender was just overall fantastic. 4.2/5 for food with a 5/5 for their Guinness pour. read more

Our party of four wanted to dine alfresco in this general area and selected Stone's Public House based on the photos of their nice outside patio and the many positive Yelp reviews. Their comfort food menu also looked inviting, so we descended upon this restaurant, anticipating some very good food. I was seated at a high-top table, about 10 minutes early. While awaiting my other colleagues, I sat unattended for those 10 minutes, and an additional 5 minutes after my first colleague arrived. Our waitress finally arrived, close to 20 minutes after I was seated, and took our drink orders. She was very nice, and seemed very new, as she could provide little guidance on what was offered from the bar. To say that this restaurant is located near the train tracks is an understatement, as the Commuter Rail is so close to the restaurant and the patio, you can almost feel the breeze as the train passes, blaring it's horn every 20 minutes while we were dining. That said, the patio is a private, attractive brick venue, and aside from the train and Main Street road noise, a very nice spot. We ordered 3 appetizers to share: * Corned Beef & Cabbage Egg Rolls - Outstanding, best dish of the evening * Beef Chili With Cornbread - Tasty with delicious cornbread * Crispy Fried Calamari - Disappointing, arrived cool and not crispy For our dinners we ordered: * Lamb Shepherd's Pie (Carrots/Parsnips/Tomatoes/Mashed Potatoes) * BBQ Pulled Pork (Housemade bbq sauce / Coleslaw/ Toasted Brioche Roll) * Fish & Chips ( Extra Chunky Tartar Sauce/Housemade Chutney Ketchup/Pickled Onion) The presentation was nicely done for all our dinners. The lamb pie was fairly good and the lamb was very tender. The mash potatoes are placed on top of the gravy, and become potato soup as you consume the dish. I think they could come up with a better plating alternative. Most of my mashed potatoes remained uneaten. My colleague was underwhelmed with his Fish & Chips. He has dined here several times before, but for breakfast/brunch. He said his dish was just OK, though he liked the curry sauce which accompanies this dish. The BBQ sandwich comes on a large roll. The diner who had this dish removed the top roll and consumed this as an open face sandwich. He said it was good, but left quite a bit of it unconsumed. Out of the six dishes selected, we really liked two (Egg Roll and Chili). We would order those any time. I don't think we'd order any of the others, though we would certainly give this place another visit. The service was painfully slow, with people, leaving their tables to check on the status of their orders or the whereabouts of their checks. Many restaurants are having difficulty with staffing, so I'm hopeful this will improve over time. Overall, a three star dining experience. read more
