"Fishwich" with über-garlic curly fries and fry (aka, 'comeback') sauce. Excellent!
    Edward S.

Our first time here and it won't be our last. We drive through Kettle Falls a couple times a week, pass by TJ's every time. This time, it was just past lunch and we decided to stop. Good call! The place is just as advertised; a bar and grill. The inside is split between a family dining section and the "pub" section, complete with pool table and big screens. BUT, there are also a few tables there so we decided to sit in that section. The pub side is a little dark, as you would expect a pub to be. The family dining section, though, is more brightly lit - both areas are very clean and welcoming. The menu has many an option from the standard comfort fare to pasta and low-carb options. They also have a board with daily specials. We both ordered the "fishwich." She ordered garlic on her seasoned fries and I ordered garlic on my curly fries. Our meals came out pretty quickly and we're piping hot and tasty. One word of caution - expect to be feared by vampires with all the garlic that comes on those fries! But, to their credit, the garlic is not as overpowering as it looks like it could be. The fries were really good (especially the crispy "seasoned" fries), as was the fish sandwich. Service was efficient and friendly. We were brought our drinks and food with smiles and offers for anything else. Prices are respectable - even surprising. We're looking forward to coming back and trying their dinner menu.

TJ's is a staple in Kettle Falls. We come to town once a year for turkey hunting and we always make our way to this spot. We originally met the Family that owned the joint (47 years) and they were amazing. This year we found out it was bought by a new owner. Talked with her for a bit... very lovely and I imagine she will do great thing for this location. She made great recommendations and was extremely personable with us. We ended up both getting the Chicken broast. Crispy and incredible tender, the chicken was amazing. My only complaint would be the portion was insane! That was a lot of chicken... good leftovers. Head to TJ's if you're in town. We'll worth it.

I had the western dip, hubby had the taco salad and mom had the fish and chips. We also added bowls of clam chowder which arrived steaming hot, Smokey, creamy and delicious with a side of crunchy garlic toast. Fries served along side the fish and sandwich are hand cut from fresh potatoes. Taco salad was large and crispy tortilla bowl was not greasy. Food was so delish we had eaten most of it before I remembered to take photos. Service was fantastic, definitely planning on coming back again soon.

A must do! What a nice little place. Stopped in for lunch and had the chicken special with beef vegetable soup to warm the soul. Generous portions with a hearty soup served bu very friendly staff in a relaxing atmosphere. Also have to give a shout out to the onion rings. Lightly battered and plump little onion treasures that don't fall apart when you eat them.

Expensive! One hamburger no size no drink $16. I know the new owners took over but this is crazy. Good luck. It is a good burger though.

I've driven past Benedict's many times and have wanted to check it out. Tonight I had the regrettable displeasure. Our waitress was very nice. Perfect service. I ordered a main. A 10oz NY strip steak, medium rare, pretty standard. It showed up, a sad 8oz at best thin little steak on a soggy piece of garlic bread looking pretty crispy. I got a couple bites in. The initial flavour was bland followed by a bitter burnt musty taste, imagine trying to eat reconstituted mothballs overcooked on a dirty grill. I felt my eyes water up as I chewed. I tried to swallow. I felt my entire GI tract prepare to purge. That was as far as I was willing to go with this sad steak. Please understand that I've eaten some wildly questionable meals around the world. This still wins the worst. Our waitress came by to check on the food. I politely told her I wasn't going to be able to eat the steak. Without hesitation she apologized and said she'd have them remake it no problem. Cool, ok, great. My gross sad steak leaves the table. 30 seconds later the MANAGER shows up with the steak I thought I'd never have to look at again. She was pissssed! She wanted to have a full on argument with me about what medium rare is. In the end she charged me $30 for an un edible piece of meat. She was so out of line and ready to battle with me. It was actually so insane it was hilarious, in a sad pathetic way. Anyways, save yourself the horrible experience and the waste of time of money and go literally anywhere else. My dogs thought it was good! So there's that.. I guess.

We were impressed with our first time here, why not come again? This time I opted for the Denver Omelette. And, thankfully, had enough sense (I was starving) to stop and take a photo - but, not before adding some Tapatio. It was hot, it was STUFFED with big chunks of ham, onions and peppers and it was all VERY good! The hash browns were on point as well; crispy, tender and a lot of 'em. Service, again, was top-drawer. The new waitress (she said it was her first day) was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was like the last time ... it's a saloon! Whattayagonnado?? So, yeah, Acorn is quickly becoming our "go to." The other, local places that decide to only be open a couple days a week are sorely (going to be) missing out.

The girls were quick to take our order when we sat down, but after 40 minutes of sitting there we still hadn't even received our drinks (one water and one soda), and they had not come to our table one time to check on us. We finally flagged them down and when the one girl came to the table she just said "the food should be coming soon", not even realizing we still didn't have drinks on our table. When I mentioned to her we still didn't have our drinks she had to ask what we were drinking again. She brought the drinks pretty much right away after that, and the food shortly followed. Once we received our food and drinks, nobody ever came back to the table the whole time to see how everything was, if we needed drink refills, etc. After we finished our meal it wasn't until my uncle got up to use the restroom that they came to take our plates, but didn't bother to ask if we wanted anything else, more water or soda, or even ask how the food was. We sat there at least another 10 minutes before the other girl finally brought the check over, all the while I'm sitting there watching her mess around on her phone and chat it up with somebody sitting at the bar (unsure if it was a customer or coworker). Granted, they were busy when we arrived so I expected there to be a wait for the food, but I didn't expect to not receive our drink order, especially since it was just 2 of us in our party and it was a water and a soda. I also didn't expect to not be checked on at least once during the 1+ hour we were there or have to wait around forever for the check. If it were up to me I wouldn't go back, but my uncle likes the place and has more patience than I do, so I'm sure I will. But I will try to talk him into going elsewhere first.

I know there are other restaurants in Rossland but having a fantastic restaurant literally 1 minute from your room makes life a lot easier. So far I've eaten 2 dinners and 1 breakfast meal here. I plan on eating at least 2 more meals here before I leave to go back to the United States. The first night, I had the roast beef special of the day, which was described to me as sliced roast beef with gravy by the bartender Savannah. She was fantastic, very friendly and welcoming. Upon receiving it, I realized it was prime rib, which made me more excited. It was served with brown gravy, broccolini, and carrots. The gravy was superb and added just the right saltiness to the prime rib. It was a nice cut with plenty of meat and a small amount of fat. The broccolini and carrots were cooked to the perfect tenderness. I did order a mocktail, the Ruby Fizz, because I wanted a tart drink. Grapefruit and lemon were the primary flavors and it was magnificently refreshing. The next morning, I opted for the more expensive breakfast buffet, which includes eggs, potatoes, sausage, pancakes, and bacon on top of the nice spread of fruits, pastries, yogurt, oatmeal, and fresh fruit. As far as breakfast buffets go, it has everything I needed to tide me over until dinner. For dinne on day 2, I went a bit indulgent after recommendations by my waitress Kate. Kate was amazing; attentive, knew the menu well, and very friendly. I started off with 2 bottles of some of the best Ginger Beer I've ever tasted. Strong ginger flavor with a spicy bite. The canoe cut of bone marrow was so rich and delicious on the lightly toasted pieces of sourdough. I even used extra prices to sop up the juices in the bone marrow. Last but not least, was a slice of beef tenderloin, lobster (which I added), wilted kale, and potato pavé. The kale was wonderful. I wish I had more of it. Lightly cooked with a nice salted finish. The potato pavé was something I've never seen before. Kate explained it was basically scalloped potatoes with a crispy shell. That too was crispy, yet tender and buttery. The lobster was cooked to perfection, tender and not tough or overcooked. It was lightly seasoned and for the first time in my life, I ate lobster without butter and I liked it. The beef tenderloin was cooked medium rare and was sitting on a bed of gravy. I'm sure it was the same gravy as the prime rib and I made sure to eat up every piece. I love The Velvet. It really is a wonderful place to eat and the food is superb. Everyone is nice and I've had back to back delicious dinners that I'll remember long after I leave here. Can't wait to eat here tomorrow.

We all got some variation of Eggs Benedict - add avocado or bacon. We each had a different drink. I had the bloody Mary and found it to be one of the best I've ever had!! Friends had a long island and a wine spritzer. They each enjoyed the libations!! The eggs were perfectly cooked and the homemade hollandaise sauce was KILLER!!!
