TJ's has some great takeout options, especially their cheeseburgers, fries, and sweet potato fries. The burgers were cooked perfectly medium and had a nice char on the meat and bun that added a lot of flavor. They also use the recycled cardboard containers for the food which keeps everything hot and absorbs the moister better than styrofoam and, of course, plastic. The clean and dimly lit bar looked relaxing. The staff were friendly --we'll definitely be back. read more

We went to TJ's two nights in a row, and had a great experience both nights! We sat in the bar so we could watch football, and the scene was perfect! This venerable pub is part of a strip in Paoli. I'd say good pub fare with a family vibe during the day, sports on tvs and a good selection of beer. There are wall monitors showing the extensive selection as well as ABV. I had the falafel and couscous salad. Overall, pretty good. The romaine salad is fresh, evidenced by some unwashed sand/grit that detracts from the dish. The waffle and chicken sandwich seemed to be a hit. I'd go back for sure. read more

The more I thought about this today the more upset I got about the food. It literally makes no sense to get some disgusting piece of crap in a box that has no flavor and is over cooked. I have stored cold meat or eaten it a couple of hours later and it was still good nsomething went very wrong compared to our normal experience and they refused to fix it. Had the hankering for a nice crispy chicken salad so gave the place a go again. Ordered lunch online for pickup and found website was beautifully redone. And food was pleasantly good too and prompt, just 15 minutes. Salad came with a generous portion, stuffed into a large styrofoam box, and ingredients seemed fresh. You have options to modify, either add or remove items, some for an added charge, or to request some items on the side, like the dressing. Pork torta in particular was delicious, sweet and spicy, with the slight fruitiness of guajillo chiles, topped with queso fresco (basically 'fresh cheese'). Basically, a good chili served on a sandwich of your choice (we chose Ciabatta, though it could have been toasted a little better). Around the time of Covid, we thought the place had gone downhill a little, but this time gives me hope. Eager to try indoors again, as I remember their beer selection was quite good. Food is a little on the pricier side, around $15-$20 for most entrees. Inflation has finally caught up with TJ's, which has always been somewhat pricy, and the prices don't seem so relatively pricy any more (think of what you would pay for a Whopper meal these days, probably the same price as an entree here). We haven't been back since the Paoli Blues Festival was chased out of the strip mall but we were in the area & needed a spot to grab lunch. Great beer list. Knowledgeable and friendly bartender. Hostess/waitress was nice and accommodating. Service was good. Got the French onion and tomato basil soups as appetizers and both were delicious. My date got the burger and Fries while I got the roast beef burger combo with straws. Nice fresh ground blend of beef, cheddar cheese, cooked right, tasty. Onion straws rocked. We went earlier this afternoon for a 2 PM lunch. The bar was filled, but we had our choice of table seating. There was only one bartender and one server, but they seemed to handle the crowd. They were out of mint, so a few of the flavored drinks were not an option. Instead, I opted for a moscow mule and some carrot drink. For food, we ordered the bavarian pretzel, pork and waffles, and TJ's burger. If I'm at a restaurant and I see a soft pretzel on the menu, I order it. I don't mess around, so needless to say, I've had my fair share of soft pretzels. Sadly, the bavarian pretzel at TJ's was a bit of a disappointment. It was underwhelming because (1) the dough wasn't that soft, (2) there was an excess of seasoning overpowering the pretzel flavor, and (3) the cheese would not (I repeat, would not) stick to the pretzel no matter how deep it was submerged. I've had soft pretzels that were warmer, softer, larger in size, with less seasoning, all at a lower price point. Switching gears to the pork and waffles, which was the best dish of the meal. The pork was moist and flavorful and the waffles were warm and crispy. The different tastes and textures provided a great balance. The burger was average. The bun was cold and the meat was about average with juice and flavor. The fries were good though, but it's hard to ruin fries. Overall, the food isn't bad, but there are other places that, in my experience, provide a comparable atmosphere with better food at a more affordable price. I certainly see myself coming back to TJ's if I'm in the area, but I probably won't make it a destination spot. read more

I've come here a couple times for happy hours when traveling for work. They're very flexible about seating. The service is always friendly. Make sure to tell them up front if you want to split checks. They have an extensive selection of beers and a couple ciders on tap. I've eaten dinner here before and the food was pretty good, but this time we just got an appetizer. We got the reuben nachos which had soft pretzels instead of chips. We all enjoyed them. So we've been to TJ's a few times now. The people and food have been very good. Great selection of beer and guy bartender can make almost any drink and taste the way it should. And I'll prefix my next comment knowing that prices have gone up on most things, however, I've also been to very expensive higher class restaurants and didn't encounter what we did this night. A margarita is usually around $10-12 and a cadillac (Grand Marnier) usually adds a few dollars for the shot. But never have we encountered an $8 shot before. Why did we wait so long to try this place?! It was a phenomenal night for eating outside. We ordered the Frosé and the Painkiller to start. The Frosé was perfectly balanced and not too sweet. The Painkiller was strong and flavorful. For dinner we ordered the Apple Chicken Salad and the Ultimate Fried Chicken Wrap. There was no shortage of flavor in the salad. There were plenty of apples and the blue cheese crumbles were great! My boyfriend has not stopped talking about how good the chicken wrap is. Hey now.... TJ's... we need you in NJ. I'm not familiar with the area and I came here (thanks to Yelp!). As usual, the beautiful Yelpers have not steered me wrong! This place is great! I came here to get a quick meal and drink at the bar. Let me start with... the beer selection. I didn't get a beer but not only is there a good selection but the prices are great too! Everything is reasonably priced. Not only is the beer selection good but the drinks are too. I chose to drink 'The Local' which is a bourbon based drink that was so well balanced and well made that I wanted to drink it all night. They also had a nice Suntory whisky that I enjoyed for a reasonable price. Now, the main reason I came here is because I am a big fan of DanDan noodles. They are my favorite type of noodle and I don't often see it on a menu. Before I came here, I saw on their menu a Shrimp and DanDan Noodle entree. Usually, non-Asian places don't do Asian type food that well but this place proved me wrong! SO GOOD. Like, SO GOOD. I would drive the two hours from NJ to here just for these noodles. Honestly. With food that good, I would think this place could get away with being fancier and uppity but it's a nice, down-to-earth place. If I lived around here, this would probably be my regular bar. The service at the bar was good too even with the bartender being alone at the bar and it being pretty busy. Another bonus... hooks! There's hooks at the bar for purses, jackets, bags, etc! The sandwich did not come with the au jus and horseradish aioli we asked for on the side. The smoke mozzarella that we asked for in the side was thin and melted to the container the sandwich was in. The salad was nothing but romaine lettuce and three pieces of radicchio, even though it was ordered with almonds, apricots, cucumbers, tomatoes. Couscous and cheese. Near the train station in Paoli, this restaurant was a nice surprise following an exhausting 2-day trip. It was about 2:30PM and we were starving. Although they were a bit slow to acknowledge that we were waiting to be seated, when we were warmly greeted with smiles and kind words, the wait was forgotten. We sat in a booth in the bar area and enjoyed watching what appeared to be a local crowd get excited about the sports being aired on the monitors. We enjoyed the music playing throughout the restaurant and especially appreciated the playlist. The beer options were easily viewed via monitors in the bar area. Although we were seated in the bar and not drinking, a booth was enough of a restaurant feel to keep us comfortable. (There is another seating section away from the bar. We were asked our preference and we chose the bar area.) We ordered salads. They were fresh, delicious, and satisfying. The chicken in the salads was moist and delicious. We opted for a shared dessert. The Toffee Pudding with a scoop of vanilla was AMAZING! It was warm, interesting, and felt like home. I will go back repeatedly just for this dessert! It is made on-site and the chef who created it deserves all of the kudos I could possibly give her. The wait staff was friendly, attentive, informative, and oozed with positivity! The waitress Dallas overcharged me for drinks first. I called her on it and she revised the bill. I gave her 4 gift cards at $25.00 per card, more than enough to cover an $87/ change bill before using the excess for part of her tip. She did not give back one of the cards. She said I did not get the one card with remaining money back because once I use the card any remainder is forfeited. Upon approaching her again, she gave me the fourth of four cards back and a bill for the remainder of the bill. I covered it with cash. After some resistance from my new bride, to visit TJs, I convinced her. We arrived around 7:00 to an expected busy Friday night, but not packed by any means. The hostess took several minutes to acknowledged us, told us she would be with us shortly, and then sped off. She was frenetic and disorganized everytime we saw her zip by. We were eventually seated in a smaller dining section and had a rather relaxed, if mediocre meal of average pub fare. When the check came, it was in range, but I made a point of using a debit card to pay to avoid the processing surcharge so many places have adopted. I was informed that anytime that they use a POS swipe, they charge as if it is a credit card. THIS IS ILLEGAL in Pennsylvania. There is a $0.07 charge for swiping a debit card. I complained and asked to see a manager, who quickly came by and smugly told me that they have adopted a "cash discount" policy, instead of a processing fee. I told him that a debit card was supposed to be treated as cash and asked if it was worth the "bad faith" on his part. Despite telling him I would report him to the State AG, he acted as if he didn't care and walked off. Was it worth the bad reviews I intend to provide, not to mention the lost business of a local who appreciates a good beer list? The owner should take this manager to task, and remind him that it is the customer who eventually pays to keep that business running. read more

Good service, consistent food with interesting zings, excellent drink variety. This place seems to live for its bar crowds and desire for the latest choice from pages of options, but does not skimp on its good pub food. The menu never changes and the specials are usually nothing spectacular, but there is a nice consistency and they have nailed their brand solid. Parking can get crowded in the shopping center but only at peak times, people usually come and go fairly easy. Plus a nice discount selection to veterans and local school fundraisers. I wish they wouldn't focus quite so heavily on beers/ales and branch into ciders and wines, but maybe you don't fix what isn't broken. read more

This was my neighborhood place about 14 years ago when I lived on the Mainline. I love to pop in here was I'm in the area to grab a beer and some food. It's elevated pub food and their beer selection is outstanding. The last time I was there I ordered the falafel wrap. It wasn't dry and the sriracha-kewpie sauce is divine. I also tried their brussel sprouts which where perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside. They have a dining area in addition to a bar area, so it's family friendly. It's located very close to the Paoli train station, but it is tucked away so you may drive by it if you're not paying attention. This place is a must go to if you love great beer. read more

I eventually received a full refund for the item. It was a lot of hassle to just get a refund and no one seemed to care that I was almost poisoned. Been going to TJs for longer than I care to admit. It was a meal for four with a $130 food tab from GrubHub. Disappointing. To TJs - I recommend either figuring out how to manage your business relationship with GrubHub or cutting ties. Returning this past weekend, we were greeted by the host, but we only wanted to sit at the bar. TJ's might have been the first bar I've been to, other than two places in center city, with amazing beers on tap. Over the years, there has been minor renovation changes, but the bar has always been my place to find home. This past visit, we were greeted by a bartender who was there the last time I visited.
