    clean, modern, relaxing bar

TJ's has some great takeout options, especially their cheeseburgers, fries, and sweet potato fries. The burgers were cooked perfectly medium and had a nice char on the meat and bun that added a lot of flavor. They also use the recycled cardboard containers for the food which keeps everything hot and absorbs the moister better than styrofoam and, of course, plastic. The clean and dimly lit bar looked relaxing. The staff were friendly --we'll definitely be back.

This venerable pub is part of a strip in Paoli. I'd say good pub fare with a family vibe during the day, sports on tvs and a good selection of beer. There are wall monitors showing the extensive selection as well as ABV. I had the falafel and couscous salad. Overall, pretty good. The romaine salad is fresh, evidenced by some unwashed sand/grit that detracts from the dish. The waffle and chicken sandwich seemed to be a hit. I'd go back for sure.

Party of 12 walkins...they got us in the bar no problem . In town for HS hockey nationals and found this place . If I could move to this neighborhood tomorrow and eat here five days a week if I could . GREAT beer list... a menu I did not expect and service that should be emulated everywhere. Thank you for showing up in my search . I WISH we Had a TJ's like This back home !

The more I thought about this today the more upset I got about the food. It literally makes no sense to get some disgusting piece of crap in a box that has no flavor and is over cooked. I have stored cold meat or eaten it a couple of hours later and it was still good nsomething went very wrong compared to our normal experience and they refused to fix it. Last time I recommend them on the community forum and actually will vote against them No excuses and no tolerance for not fixing an issue.

Came here for dinner the other day with my boyfriend! The food was good and the staff was friendly but overall everything was incredibly expensive for typical bar food. We also went during "happy hour" but we weren't told any specials that were going on so I'm not sure if they even have a happy hour (I used their website for reference) I am not from this area so I'm not sure if these prices are normal so if these are normals prices I'm sorry! I also got the pineapple margarita and it was excellent!

We haven't been back since the Paoli Blues Festival was chased out of the strip mall but we were in the area & needed a spot to grab lunch. Great beer list. Knowledgeable and friendly bartender. Hostess/waitress was nice and accommodating. Service was good. Got the French onion and tomato basil soups as appetizers and both were delicious. My date got the burger and Fries while I got the roast beef burger combo with straws. Nice fresh ground blend of beef, cheddar cheese, cooked right, tasty. Onion straws rocked. Kenmore lager recommended by bartender was perfect. Good to see this neighborhood place is still cooking good food and serving delicious adult beverages.

    Carrot drink and moscow mule

We went earlier this afternoon for a 2 PM lunch. The bar was filled, but we had our choice of table seating. There was only one bartender and one server, but they seemed to handle the crowd. They were out of mint, so a few of the flavored drinks were not an option. Instead, I opted for a moscow mule and some carrot drink. For food, we ordered the bavarian pretzel, pork and waffles, and TJ's burger. If I'm at a restaurant and I see a soft pretzel on the menu, I order it. I don't mess around, so needless to say, I've had my fair share of soft pretzels. Sadly, the bavarian pretzel at TJ's was a bit of a disappointment. It was underwhelming because (1) the dough wasn't that soft, (2) there was an excess of seasoning overpowering the pretzel flavor, and (3) the cheese would not (I repeat, would not) stick to the pretzel no matter how deep it was submerged. I've had soft pretzels that were warmer, softer, larger in size, with less seasoning, all at a lower price point. Switching gears to the pork and waffles, which was the best dish of the meal. The pork was moist and flavorful and the waffles were warm and crispy. The different tastes and textures provided a great balance. The burger was average. The bun was cold and the meat was about average with juice and flavor. The fries were good though, but it's hard to ruin fries. Overall, the food isn't bad, but there are other places that, in my experience, provide a comparable atmosphere with better food at a more affordable price. I certainly see myself coming back to TJ's if I'm in the area, but I probably won't make it a destination spot.

I've come here a couple times for happy hours when traveling for work. They're very flexible about seating. The service is always friendly. Make sure to tell them up front if you want to split checks. They have an extensive selection of beers and a couple ciders on tap. I've eaten dinner here before and the food was pretty good, but this time we just got an appetizer. We got the reuben nachos which had soft pretzels instead of chips. We all enjoyed them. Overall, it's a great place to grab a drink after work.

Service was excellent and we sat at a table near the bar. We shared the southwest egg rolls (delish and so flavorful) and I got a burger. Service was friendly and the menu was surprisingly deep. Overall, the food did not disappoint. We started with the French Onion soup - it is on point and if you like French Onion, I recommend it. I went with the meatloaf sandwich. It was good, but the BBQ sauce was a bit sweet for my liking. Still a creative and enjoyable sandwich. We also got a poke bowl, which was very fresh. I'd recommend getting the dressing on the side as that could overpower some of the aspects of the bowl, but no other modifications needed. I've heard this place can get busy and is a bit of a dive bar. Given its location, I am sure it can get busy so I would plan ahead if you want to eat. As for dive bar, not sure I'd call it that but if I did it would more bit a complement. I say give Berwyn Tavern a go if you are in the area.

First off - the manager is confrontational. A few weeks ago, when I ordered the Ellis Island Hot Pastrami I was told that it has to be on a Rye bagel. Well, that is obviously not the case as when I went to order it today, they were out of Rye bagels and I got to select a different bagel. My sandwich both times looked nothing like the picture. The Asiago bagel was dry and seemed to be a leftover from a previous day. I placed my order today and after paying, I was told I would need to pay extra for the Asiago bagel. This really should have been addressed before I paid. There is a tip jar in the counter. It is in plain sight, therefore there was no reason for the manager to say "And here is our tip jar." While dining with a friend, the manager interrupted our conversation to ask if we lived in Chesterbrook and then to tell us that the police told him that he should carry a weapon, due to a recent shooting of empty cars. When I asked which police told him to carry a weapon his story changed to "I heard it in the news". I came to enjoy my lunch. I didn't come to be nickel and dimed after paying for my order and then interrupted with scare tactics if I lived in the area. When the Einstein Bagels in Paoli gets their A/C fixed, I'll return to that store for light conversation, fresher bagels and honest prices. I might give Manhattan Bagels another try if the management changes.

It's pretty obvious that Baxter's isn't exactly the Ritz... but neither is it pretending to be. On the other hand, if you're in the mood for a burger & brew, or just some laid back comfort fare, it's definitely a place to consider. After all, man does not live by foie gras alone. I've always been of the opinion that each restaurant should be evaluated individually - on the basis of how well it fulfills its own particular raison d'être - not en masse. But regardless of where you're dining - however humble or upscale - it's always a good idea to go with what the restaurant's kitchen does (or proports to do) best. Based upon my years of experience as a food writer, the dishes that Baxter's - and restaurants of similar ilk - seem to do best are those that require the least amount of fuss. Take a gander at Baxter's globe-trotting menu... you find such diverse items as steaks & prime rib, chicken parm, Thai stir fry, all-American calf's liver, and a variety of seafood... There's simply too much going for the kitchen's reach not to exceed its grasp... If I want an 8-ounce filet, I'll go to a steakhouse; if I prefer chicken parm, I'll pay a call at my favorite Italian restaurant. Thai stir fry? My go-to Asian eatery... And when I chow-down at Baxter's, as I have over the years, I stick to the pub-grub or similar fare. This, of course, doesn't guarantee success... but it certainly puts the odds solidly in my favor. During our most recent visit, however, my permanent dining companion and I decided to take the "comfort food" route - she settling on the Fish & Chips; I opting for the Home-Style Meatloaf - both of which proved to be somewhat disappointing. When I think about fish & chips, I can't help but recall an incident that took place several years ago... My companion and I were visiting a New Jersey restaurant (thankfully now defunct) that I planned to review. We were seated at the bar enjoying a preprandial libation and checking out the menu. When my companion spied the fish & chips, she asked the bartender his opinion. "What can you do to fish & chips," he shrugged. Well, actually you can do a lot - in this particular case, none of it good. For no matter how straightforward a dish may be, a kitchen can find any one of a number of ways to muck it up. I'll spare you the gory details... but let me simply say that the sorry specimen we were served has remained the worst representative of the genre it has ever been our displeasure to ingest. Fortunately, Baxter's version, while not exactly receiving my dining partner's enthusiastic imprimatur, at least did not incur her wrath. The haddock was at the peak of good health, she said, the batter judiciously applied & done to a golden brown, and the accompanying sweet potato fries perfectly crisp and beyond reproach... Her final word on the matter: "Acceptable." ... And the same could be said for my meatloaf. Hardly the incredible "diner" meatloaf of childhood memory - for which I constantly search - but adequate nonetheless. On the positive side, the texture, neither too dense nor too mushy, was right on the money. And the portion size, as you'll note from the photograph, was certainly generous. On the other hand, the meat lacked anything even approximating seasoning... And the flood of bland-leading-the-bland brown gravy did little to ameliorate the situation. The pillow of mashed potatoes was so-so at best... But, kudos to the kitchen, the side of house-made coleslaw was quite good. Dessert choices round up all the usual suspects... Dark Chocolate Mousse... Apple Crumb Pie a la Mode... New York Cheesecake... Carrot Cake... and Baxter's Brownie Sundae (pictured). This latter offering is clearly the way to go. A Ghirardelli triple chocolate brownie is crowned with vanilla ice cream, splashed with caramel and chocolate sauces, and finished off with whipped cream and a cherry. Yes, very old-fashioned... but very good, very rich, and very suitable for sharing.
