Authentic fresh Greek food. Owners from Crete. We had a large party (12) yesterday afternoon. Service was flawless. Food was spectacular. We started the meal with large cold platters of hummus, dips, olives, grilled peppers and pita. Our hot appetizers included grilled octopus, grilled calamari, fried calamari, and grilled shrimp. All outstanding. Everyone got their favorite Greek meals and the variety was incredible. All the food was served hot and fresh at the very same time. (Not an easy task, but they made it happen.) My husband, daughter, and I dined here on Saturday night. My hubby's office had ordered takeout from here in the past, and as picky of an eater as he is, he talked about how good it was; so we thought we would try their dine-in experience together. We arrived around 5:45pm to a fairly empty restaurant, which often gives me pause; but as the night went on, it quickly filled up. We were seated and tended to promptly. The interior is cool and inviting, with Greek artwork and upbeat music to enhance the ambiance. Our server was attentive and blunt in a fun, friendly way -- make sure you bring your sense of humor so you don't take anything personally! I had a bowl of the Chicken Avgolemono soup, though the smaller cup would've been more than enough. It was nice and hot. My husband and daughter both got Souvlaki platters but didn't want their Dolmades so I happily ate those. I also shared their fries and part of my daughter's Pork Souvlaki. The Dolmades were some of the best I've ever had and the fries were amazing. But the pork. Listen, I rarely choose pork as my protein and I was very unenthusiastic about it, but it was possibly the best pork I have eaten in my life. It was super tender and juicy and absolutely full of flavor. Together with the fresh pita, tzatziki, and cucumbers... I didn't have words. My husband enjoyed his Lamb Souvlaki, but he tried a bite of the pork and shared my sentiments. We shared a piece of Baklava for dessert, which was also delicious. It was a wonderfully satisfying meal! Restrooms were bright and clean, albeit you have to walk through their office-like area to get to them and kind of feel like you're intruding. By far my favorite Greek restaurant meal in the US, ever. We went only because it's close to the hospital where we were visiting family. The restaurant used to be in Downingtown, and the family knew of it, which encouraged us further. (The ratings here on Yelp helped, too). It's a simple, lovely place -- very clean. Our server might have been an owner. A tall, blond woman, she was enthusiastic, honest, warm and very relatable. We never got her name, but meeting her was one of the pleasures of eating at Olive Tree. My partner got the yiayia meatball platter and I got the vegetarian platter. We took out the chicken orzo soup and baklava for the hospital folks. And honey walnut cake for our own dessert. The platters layer on top of grilled pita, the main dish and generous portions of magnificent rice pilaf, olives, stuffed grape leaves, and chunky, ripe tomatoes and cucumbers. Mine featured grilled summer squash and asparagus, and a full sized portion each of spanakopita (spinach/feta/onion pie in phyllo) and tiropita (phyllo rolled over mixed cheeses and herbs -- like a crispy, savory blintz). I took home the spanakopita, olives, 3/4 of the pita, and grape leaves (4!) to have for breakfast the next day, and I'm no minimalist eater. Each bite tasted so fresh and delicious, with clear natural flavors coming through their minimal, in-house preparations. The beef meatballs were extremely tasty, and my partner ate his entire platter in one sitting, enjoying it very much. His plate included a generous portion of highly herbed, fresh, creamy tzatziki, some of which I stole and enjoyed as a dip for the pita. Baklava: crisped outer layer, and gorgeous nut/honey filling. The honey-walnut cake was moist and so, so flavorful. Not too sweet. I wish we had room to try their rice pudding. Next time, we'll try the grilled fish and meats. Was in the area and thinking about Greek food, so I stopped in. This is the same restaurant that used to be located on 113 between Downingtown and Lionville. I really enjoyed that place. In Paoli... Parking is very spacious. Restaurant and table were both clean. My server was the same lady from the previous location, and she is wonderful. I ordered the Traditional Gyro with fries, and it did not disappoint. Phenomenal taste. 12 noon on a Monday, and there was a good lunch crowd. 5-Star. Glad I found The Olive Tree again. Found this place on Yelp. The app has never failed me yet! We ordered the Spanikopita app, Lamb Souvlaki, Chicken Souvlaki and Gyro platter. Good portions, very flavorful, excellent salads, and meat cooked to perfection. The pita bread was soft, the Tzatziki sauce was good as well as the Greek dressing. Areas for improvement: - more Tzatziki sauce - more salad dressing - one of our meals did not get any Tzatziki sauce. Other than this, I will be back when I am in town! read more

Wonderful food and very cute atmosphere. Even the fries were amazing - not exactly what you go to a Greek place for, but a welcome surprise! They have a great selection (including a decent vegetarian variety) without it being an overwhelming amount of choices. On the way out, the woman who waited on us even gave us some free holiday sweets (which were also delicious)! It was a very kind gesture on what was an otherwise stressful day. I had the most bazaar experience there this evening. My wife and I walk into this restaurant and at the entrance there is a sign: "wait to be seated". There is a older woman paying her tab and a older female cashier/waitress perhaps owner with an accent ringing her up. The cashier repeating kept saying "Sixteen Dollars" in a frustrating tone. The woman paying seemed slow or perhaps a bit old and she had $40 in her hand. The customer eventually understood and gave her one $20 bill, then she said this is for you, handing her a 2nd $20 bill. The cashier took the bill and put it to the side but I don't remember seeing a smile or hearing a thank you. Bill paid the older woman walks past us and now we are now the only ones there standing at the entrance . The the cashier/waitress says to my wife and I in a loud tone...."WHAT?" as in "what are you looking at". I was startled and I said "what?" I was perplexed I just walked in, there is no one in the restaurant and I'm in front of a sign that says "Please wait to be seated" I take a deep breath and try compose myself a bit and asked her "what kind of question is that, why do you think we're standing here???, we are customers!?" Then I said "you know want we gonna leave." We left. Apparently the older woman customer was outside but she must of heard our interaction with this cashier/waitress perhaps owner. I said to the woman, can you believe what just happened in there, she replied I would of left also. I then said, "that woman was mean to you", she said "oh she wasn't mean you should give her another chance the food is really good." The woman customer was simply a very kind person. At any rate we really wanted to try the food but I can't imagine ever going back there again. We ended up driving to West Chester to Opa Taverna where the staff was friendly and the food was great. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++ My response to Owners Reply: (George), You don't know me but I also own a business and I deal with the public. I please my customers with respect, great customer service and I deliver a great service. I also know a bunch of people and restaurant owners in the Greek and italian communities in your area. I always treat everyone I meet with kindness, understanding and respect. Your employee was angry when she looked at me and simply said "WHAT????". My wife and I were blind sided. We were simply standing there patiently. If the older woman customer gave your employee a $20 or $5 tip really doesn't materially change what happened. For the record I saw a $20. Allow me to give you a little advice: As a business I owner I sometimes encounter challenges and I always try to and often do turn them into a positive. Why you wouldn't find a way to get me back in the door I can't imagine, while you offered no apology you didn't even say "give us another try". I eat out often and I completely understand what an insane experience and the impossible challenges running a restaurant and dealing with the public. All I ask for is to be treated civilly. I hesitate to write the following but there are several comments below that validate the same conclusion, so please accept this in the spirit of quality improvement and fair warning: The waitress was so increasingly hostile and indifferent that we would never return -- we couldn't get her attention long enough to refill a drink or ever get any water and just trying to pay the bill was an ordeal. This place is on the main drive, US 30 (Lancaster Blvd) in Paoli, PA. It is a authentic Greek food restaurant. Intermediately sized, with parking. The food is very good, the wait staff very friendly, and the pricing is quite fair. The ingredients are fresh, well prepared and served with a smile. A very pleasant dining experience was had by my wife and I there and we will return. BTW, I am fan of cucumber and dill so one can image I rather like tzatziki. Some of the best I've had. I got way too full dipping pita into it and brought 3/4's of my entree home because of it. No negatives on this place. read more

I haven't made it past the Greek Sampler and Meat Sampler entrees because they are just so tasty and satisfying for a Mediterranean craving; always generous portions, delightfully herbed works of culinary art! Meats are succulent, packed with smoke and savory flavor, and always high quality. Their rice is crack pellets! Omg, it is so extremely tasty! Too many Grecian spice and herb secrets in there for me to unpack, but just ladle it down my throat, please! Yum! Their grilled veggies are the best I've ever had. My grilled tomato tonight was also savory and smoky, but still full of that robust red tomato juice flavor. Their pitas are great quality too, with velvety, herb-bombed tzatziki, that is divine! The staff is friendly, conscientious, and hard working. The closest other options around here for Greek fare are Estia and Minella's. I did not care for Estia's food, and Minella's is good, but not even close to the level of quality or sophistication of Olive Tree's dishes. 90 minutes before entrees! Bad service. 90 minutes from the time we sat down until the time we got our entrees (although the appetizers came pretty quickly), and other tables had similar waits. Watched an awful lot of take out orders being taken out. 1 waitress for the whole restaurant, but there was a another staff member who did nothing but takeout orders all night. Maybe shut the takeout line down for 15 minutes while you catch up on your in house customers that have been waiting for 90 minutes. The atmosphere was bad. The restaurant got extremely smoky during the course of dinner. The cooking area faces out to the dining room, but I've been to plenty of other restaurants with an open kitchen, and this was the smokiest I had ever seen. Also, the sun was right in my eyes for part of dinner, and the windows didn't have any shades or curtains to block it, so I was wearing my sunglasses indoors. The appetizer were actually pretty good. The octopus was nicely grilled and generously portioned. The Greek meatballs were were big, tasty, and authentically seasoned. The entrees were all too salty. I had shrimp pasta, two others had sampler platters, another had chicken. We all agreed, way too salty. Also, I know this is a minor thing, but when will chefs learn to take the shrimp tails off when the shrimp is in pasta? Server made a face at me when I asked for more water and a small dish to put my shrimp tails on (this took 15 minutes). Yes, I need more than 1 glass of water when I am in a smoky restaurant for 90 minutes! The server barely checked on us and had to be flagged down for everything. Although we all love baklava, we all decided to skip dessert because the wait time had just been way too long. I saw the server take a couple of shots of ouzo with people at another table, and I've seen other reviews of people saying they saw the same thing. The place is BYOB, so it's not technically illegal, but it sure seems like a bad idea. Especially since they have a cheese dish that the server flambees at the table. Before visiting here, I only had 2 restaurants that I had vowed never to go back to. Now I have three. I guess a bronze medal Razzie is better than being completely forgettable? read more

I've heard the food is good but didn't have a chance to try it because the waitress/owner (?) was so rude that we just got up and left after sitting there for about 20 minutes. We were seated, and about five minutes later a trio came in, were seated and ordered before we did. After they ordered I thought for sure she would take our order, but no she came out and cleared an adjacent table never looking in our direction. It wasn't like they were busy! There was another two people sitting at a different table happily enjoying their food! If they were slammed and she was the only waitress it would be totally understandable. The woman who is a waitress is a true bitch. Seven people walked in to dine and she turned all of them down. Her view on that was we close at 8 and it's seven now so we can't serve you. Than she started to yell at me. I actually called first and made sure it was ok to come at seven and she freaked out. Honestly the food isn't even that good and they are expensive. Skip this place. Go to Estia in Radnor the food is way better and they treat you like family. To reiterate, this place has a very arrogant attitude and is not the atmosphere I recommend to dine in. Truly delicious and I think has become my pregnancy craving. I haven't craved or really had much of an appetite which as a foodie has been weird. All day I thought about their trio dipping platter with soft pitas, hummus, tzatziki, and melintzanosalata. So my husband brought me tonight even though we were just there 5 days ago for my birthday. I got their greek vegetarian platter this time and it was excellent. Everything was so good. Love all the veggies and everything is so fresh.
