I love to dine with local businesses because they are welcoming and the food is amazing.but when i walk into Berwyn tavern the ambiance wasn't the best for a summer day. Right when we sat down they gave us the typical waters. I ordered a sprite and they gave me ginger ale. For the food i ordered a burger. It was probably a top 5 burger in my life. Stopped in for lunch this afternoon and we were greeted with applause. Hahaha some patrons were enjoying themselves and the vibes were immaculate. Service was excellent and we sat at a table near the bar. We shared the southwest egg rolls (delish and so flavorful) and I got a burger. We came here for dinner on a somewhat quiet Saturday evening. Luck was on our side as they had no problem getting us a table for four and we were sat quickly. Service was friendly and the menu was surprisingly deep. Overall, the food did not disappoint. We started with the French Onion soup - it is on point and if you like French Onion, I recommend it. I went with the meatloaf sandwich. It was good, but the BBQ sauce was a bit sweet for my liking. Still a creative and enjoyable sandwich. We also got a poke bowl, which was very fresh. I'd recommend getting the dressing on the side as that could overpower some of the aspects of the bowl, but no other modifications needed. I've heard this place can get busy and is a bit of a dive bar. Given its location, I am sure it can get busy so I would plan ahead if you want to eat. As for dive bar, not sure I'd call it that but if I did it would more bit a complement. I say give Berwyn Tavern a go if you are in the area. read more

We were a party of 3 early on a Saturday like 5:15. Chicken sandwich, cheesesteak and quesadilla were ordered. Two orders came out and said coming right up for the 3rd. 20 minutes later still hadn't arrived so told them to just cancel it as I shared food with the other two. The nerve! The cook came out and yelled at us for not accepting the order. Never had that happen. No apology for the late sandwich or anything just made us feel like we did something wrong. They could have come out and talked to us to explain what went wrong or whatever but that didn't happen. Just to harass us for cancelling. read more

Food was okay, but the portions were really small. Needed something to eat when we got back home. We're in our 50's and we sat in the nice back porch area. For some reason our drinks, non-alcoholic, were served in tiny little plastic cups. Like a college party. I visited this place with some of my friends, which is located in the main area of Berwyn. I see a lot of folks who seem to be close groups and locals watching NBA at the time. They have a good collection of beer and nice place to catch some games or spend time with your friends. The service is fast and staff is very attentive. The food was not bad, but the service was deplorable. We went on Tuesday night for Quizzo and dinner. We got our menus and drinks very quickly, but no one took our order for at least 45 minutes. The place was crowded because of the Quizzo, so more help was needed. The waitress messed up one of our orders, so she had to wait longer to get her food. The place is old and not very nice looking. Definitely needs a make over. I might be back, but only for the Quizzo. read more

Been here a couple of times. A cute, no nonsense pub on Lancaster Ave. They have a good collection of beer and their food is actually super delicious. I love the pot stickers , the potato skins were yummy and the rolls along with the dipping sauce were mouth watering. Great place to come for a no frills evening. read more

Indoor or outdoor seating , TV's, and outdoor pool table , outdoor bar( when it's appropriate) & even a smoker for barbecue( call ahead to see if its on the agenda!). the indoors is a bit it dark but that is due to it's location. So my friend took me here to get a quality cheessteak close to his house without going downtown to Philly! So we each ordered a cheessteak, mushrooms and onions and provolone, Along with cheese fries! Cheese steak was tasty with the proper roll , a bit greasy-- buy hey it's a cheese steak! It was more than enough food ! I would totally order this again! It seems a like a great place to grab a beer and watch the game! Going out to eat comes at a premium price so I feel inclined to share my experience. My family and another family were here on a very slow night. I'll get straight to the points. 1.) Kids - This is not a child friendly place. On their outdoor patio which was virtually empty, on a gorgeous spring night, 3 kids (girls) were not able to walk around and explore. They yelled at us saying something along the lines of "police will be called by the property next door". If the place was busy, the kids would be seated - totally different story. We were waiting and waiting for our check after the meal which is why the kids got up in the first place. Seemed really odd how bad the relationship is with the building next door. 2.) Parking - There is very limited parking. The parking directly behind is for the property next door and was told I needed to move my car. Again, a poor relationship with the building next door. Seems odd they can't work together and makes you think about it what happened for this relationship to get so bad. It's a small restaurant so they are not taking up too many spots. 3.) Ambiance / Design - While I like retro, this place needs a facelift. From the outside, it almost looks creepy/sketchy. The entrance alone was not friendly nor welcoming. The bar inside is dark and loud. We got out of there as soon as possible to the back deck. In the enclosed deck/patio, the music is blasting so loud, I could barely hear someone speaking and there are outdoor TVs (personally not a fan, especially when outdoors). Eating out, at a table, is about connection. Totally different vibe if you are sitting at a bar. 4.) Food - Food was ok. They charged us $20 for a greasy Reuben! The price wasn't listed as it was a special. Broccoli rabe was loaded with cheese and was again, just ok. Side salad, just ok. Tater tots were a hit with the kids. Their meals though were just ok. After getting yelled at because the girls were gently playing in an empty area and all of the above, just gave us bad vibes. Both families will not be going back which is a huge bummer as it is within walking distance to Handel's Ice Cream. Luckily there are several other restaurants nearby and also in walking distance. read more

What makes a great cheesesteak? People like Phil trying to make a good cheesesteak. We got the flank steak cheesesteak. I hear flank steak and I think of a tough piece of meat. Luckily, Phil tries to make a good Cheesesteak and he marinated the flank steak perfectly. The roll held up very well. The fried onions and mushrooms were marinated and heated up magnificently. Y'all are gonna hate this. You're gonna hate it so much. But the frozen grocery store pierogis and onion rings we had here after a night of drinking were the best two food items we had while in Philly. Trust me, I don't believe it either. But in between doing Irish car bombs my dude tried them up perfectly and we left feeling satisfied. Cool bartenders good spot and good people. "The BT" is a local bar, good people, good ownership, always open when no one else is open...

Long time customer. Not likely to return. Owner Joe is a great guy. Chef Phil and bartenders Pat and Co. are the best. Manager Brandon, however, is clueless when it comes to interacting with loyal customers. An improper handling of a question about an upcharge on my bill resulted in a negative exchange that showed no courtesy to the customer. Nothing but attitude after even screwing up my order? Berwyn Tavern is conveniently located right across the street from a local brewery, so we stopped by for a nice cold beer after an evening of enjoying other nice cold beers. Fully equipped with like 5 parking spaces and an ATM, the tavern was pretty packed on this Saturday evening (with a crowd that's like ages ~35-50). Their beer selection had quite a few local craft brews available which was great, although most were IPAs (no complaints from me, just not as much variety as I'd expect). We didn't have to wait long to be helped at the bar, and I enjoyed the delicious citra IPA. For what they are- a dive bar- it's what you can pretty much expect. We didn't order any food, so I can't say anything about that. Our service was pretty average here too. read more

Parking is dismal. The restaurant/bar area smelled like a dirty toilet. Staff was friendly (when present). Some of the food was edible, worst cheesesteak I've ever had (obviously frozen). We stopped in for a little food and a few beverages. Great experience overall! Friendly staff who are very attentive. If you are looking somewhere to watch some local sports, they have a ton of tv's throughout the tavern. Kid-friendly too - several families were there!!! DIVE BAR +++! If you are lucky enough to pull into one of the 6, that's right I said 6, parking places in front of this joint you'll note that the outside screams dive bar. You'll continue thinking that if you sit at the bar made of stained and varnished plywood. As you begin to experience it you'll see why I added +++ to your typical dive bar. +#1- The overall ATMOSPHERE here is special. The crowd is a wonderful mix of every age and type. The place is clean. You got your outside porch that's enclosed in the winter and open air in the summer. You have an upstairs for a quieter experience. You've got a TouchTunes juke box enabled for your phone app. Golden Tee is there. The tables are nicely spaced and comfortable. The bartenders are incredibly friendly and provide excellent CUSTOMER SERVICE. The overall vibe here is just great. +#2- Of course there is as a full bar but the BEER choices are definitely a step up from the typical dive. There aren't a lot of taps but the bottle list is very good. Unless you are a serious beer snob, brew drinkers will be content here. BTW, there was even a small specialty martini list posted above the bar, +#3- The menu here is a big STEP UP from a typical dive. How about a big basket of hot and crispy TRUFFLE FRIES for $4.50? Or maybe a HOUSTON BURGER topped with pulled pork, an onion ring, and more for $9 and change. Note that they have a smoker outback so if you are a carnivore you are likely to be a happy camper. I absolutely love BT! It is a good local bar that has great service and awesome food! When you look at the menu, it looks like typical bar food, but they always have some type of amazing special. Honestly, I can't really comment on their regular menu because I always get something off of the special board. I have had specials like jambalaya, Thanksgiving dinner on a roll, shrimp po' boy, smoked turkey leg (that they smoked on the property) and so many other delicious meals. You never know what you are going to get, but it is always good. They also will cater to you if you want something different. I typically try to avoid carb loading (I am a sterotypical girl, always trying to lose weight), so they have taken a sandwich special and turned it into a platter instead. It is a hidden foodie gem. They always have some type of drink special and they frequently have food specials as well. If you are looking for a great meal and a few (or a lot) of beer, this is a great place. The only down side of BT is the parking. There is about 5 spots out front, but there is the train lot right next too it too. We have parked there a few times when we couldn't get a spot in front and have never had a problem. There is also street parking across Lancaster from BT. read more

A great Dive. My wife and I stopped in here on Valentine's Day to stick with our tradition of going to a decidedly un-fancy restaurant. They had a fairly extensive craft beer list to choose from as well as your standard selection of fizzy yellow water. Food was surprisingly good we actually joked that we broke tradition because the food was too good to qualify for our on fancy Valentine's Day tradition. The locals might have been my favorite part of the night. It was quite easy to strike up a conversation with people around you who were happy to share a pint and a story. Good luck getting one of the six parking spaces out front and make sure you pull all the way in so as the back of your vehicle isn't sitting on Route 30. read more

Needed to kill some time and saw this place. Great dive bar, good but not overwhelming brew selection. Some really interesting ones too. The Bar layout made it hard to get service but it wasn't bad (one server forgot about me but he was very contrite). The menu was usual suspects but the grilled chicken sandwiches sounded good. It was a great choice. I got one with bleu cheese and it came served open face. I tried to eat it as a sandwich but that was a bad idea. Eat it with your utensils. I was offered choice of potatoes so that was a positive too. Plenty of screens for you sports fans. Loud but not overwhelmingly so. The BT is a classic local's bar. Sufficiently good food for a bar. Plenty of drink options. It's got that excellent corky character that one doesn't know they want, but that just feels right when you're there. Indoor and outdoor seating. Strong community vibe.
