So this place is super close to my condo so I asked my two friends if they'd like to check it out. Oahu is just generally so behind when it comes to quality Mexican food but I had high hopes. Anyway, ordered the three tacos with beans and rice. Two shredded beef and one chicken. The shredded beef tacos were on point, really delicious. The chicken taco was good but not quite as good as the beef. Whole pinto beans, very tasty. Sadly the rice wasn't so good, definitely lacking flavor but mixed with the beans okay. Overall, I was surprised. I've eaten Mexican food all over California, LA, San Diego etc and this was good. I swing by every time I'm in the area. I wish they franchised. The food is some of the best Mexican I've had anywhere. Everything is seasoned well and so flavorful. Ive tried all the meats and my favorite is the pork. All the meats are juicy but this is especially so. Therefore, be prepared for a wet burrito if that's what you order. I've even tried the veggie taco and it was delicious. Good is served very hot and very fast. The gentleman who takes the order is very friendly as well. I can't get enough of this restaurant. Wheeww, finding tasty Mexican food out here is a mission & a half. I found this recommendation on tik tok & had to try it. It's in luxury row area of Waikiki tucked away on lauula street. This cool food truck is brightly decorated & hard to miss. They have a cool seating area with lots to look at. I ordered the birria tacos & they were delicious! I went here. I ordered three Birria tacos and one chicken Birria taco, however I wasn't really satisfied with it. It felt like there was little to no flavor in the meat or no seasonings at all. It was not authentic Mexican food. I even ordered an Horchata, which was way too sweet. I ended up eating only two tacos out of my four one beef one chicken and I couldn't finish the rest because I genuinely did not like it. And by the way, I am Mexican from California and I seen other reviews saying that they give the stamp of approval of authenticity for Mexican food but for me it was a definite no! maybe it was more of a Tex-Mex restaurant and even Tex-Mex isn't real authentic Mexican food either. read more

Mario is a very personable owner - it's a two-man operation with him and his chef. He was kind enough to give me a complimentary Li Hing Mango Horchata, I believe is what he said. Ordered online on a Saturday, their website is pretty easy to use. They're a cute food truck that I don't think moves as I've seen it parked in the same spot in the evenings when I drive home. It said pick up after 12:15 but I got a text around 12:11 that it was ready, so might be better to go a little earlier just in case they aren't busy. We ordered the pastrami melt and the Chilaquiles with add on of pork. The pastrami melt was pretty good! 3 slices of bread with onions and cheese. The onions was good, I think it outshined the pastrami. It was served with waffle fries which were nice and crispy... Unlike the chips of the chilaquiles which was soggy. I think he needs to either poke holes in the take out box or put them on the side. Going to go back and try some other menu items next time! read more

When I was returning back to work and wanted to avoid the road work on Ward Ave from Queen St to Ala Moana Blvd, I've discovered the Mexican food truck on the side street on the corner of Cooke and Kawaiahao Streets. I stopped by the next day on my lunch break to pick up dinner since they close early at 4 pm except on Taco Tuesday. Tuesday they close between 6:30-7:00pm. Speaking of Taco Tuesday, There's a $10 Taco Tuesday special for 4 different meat tacos and sauces for $10. You can also get the taco sampler on the regular days for $12.95. My wait time was not long since I've pre-ordered my sandwich and fries combo. Since it was slow he said about 5 minutes or so. I've decided on the Tlacuache Sandwich. Wow the sandwich was tasty and hearty with fresh carved Roast beef, Pastrami, ham, hash browns, grilled onions, bell pepper, cheddar and Swiss cheese on a torpedo french roll served with fries. The sandwich was Thick and good and even the fries! . The plate also came with pickles and some veggies on the side and to my surprise, I found a hostess cup cake and a Fiber One chewy bar inside my package! That was a nice touch! So sweet of them! Emjay who helped me over the phone. was very helpful. The cook, Jesse, and him both said their favorite was the Chipotle Sandwich. Both of them and the owner used to work together at La Cucaracha in Waikiki. Jesse was the head chef/cook and Mario was the General Manager (Mario was not there). Emjay helped them. I believe the restaurant has not reopened since the first shutdown may be closed for good? They let me in on the news that they will have a second Mexican food truck coming soon and probably Mario will run that food truck. I'm glad they have this truck servicing the Honolulu area. I want to wish them well! Metered parking is available or if there's room right behind their truck or further back in front the parking entrance of the imperial plaza for only a very short time to run out and for pick up! They have been working and preparing for this for months but got everything up & running about a month or so. They have a unique menu and would love to try their other menu option even Taco Tuesday! I had to try it! Street tacos on Taco Tuesday $10.95 for two shredded beef and two pulled pork. Otherwise it's $12.95 for any choice meat. It would be nice to try it out immediately rather than waiting till I got home. The chips were already soggy to be expected. The tacos were delicious. They give one tortilla unlike the traditional way of two tortillas. Fine by me, since I remove one tortilla anyway. I did get the Carne Asada, I had to, I'm from California. That way I know where to go when I'm craving carne Asada. It was a great marinade so it had flavor but I think I prefer flame grilled carne Asada then chopped up rather than grill cooked. However, I liked the flavor of the meat. Would be great if they had Al Pastor but they didn't. They sell carnitas too. Another dish to see if they are good. Next time I might have to try their carnitas. I would return to try something else. Their shredded beef and the ibirra sauce. I will have to get that next time. In a quest for the best tacos in Oahu, I found Tlacuaches808 just around the corner from where I was staying. Ordered the birria tacos. The birria was pretty good; not as good as my cousin's but really good. For Oahu, I guess. My main gripe is the plating. The plating could have been done better. In the container was a good amount of what tasted like hot Pace picante sauce. This made the tacos a little too soggy and not something that normally goes with birria tacos. Some salsa roja may go better. There was also some lettuce. Lettuce only goes with taco bell tacos. No lettuce. The consommé was delicious especially with the extra birria that was in it. My workmates and I have tried Tlacuaches808 twice for lunch ... they offer an interesting variety of cuisines and mixes of multiple cuisines on the same plate. The first time I had their Birria Mac N Cheese; two (very delicious) tacos and a bowl of soupy mac and cheese. The latter dish was pretty weird to me, it was more macaroni soup with a huge chunk of shredded beef, not a creamy mac and cheese that I'm accustomed to. Everyone raved about their Birria tacos ... perhaps the best I've had in Honolulu. On our second visit, I had their Pork RIbs, four very tender pork ribs, French fries and a salad with a very spicy salsa. I wanted to try the Spicy Chipotle sauce on the ribs but my friend ordered it with BBQ sauce. Oh well, next time because this plate was delicious! We are on vacation from Los Angeles. Tuesday night we were walking down Kalakaua Ave in Waikiki and we saw some people eating what looked to be some very delicious food out of a styrofoam box but we couldn't tell exactly what it was. We asked them what they were eating and they said Mexican food... birria tacos. OUR FAVORITE!! They pointed and said go to the truck down that walkway on the backstreet. Glad we stopped and asked them!! We got to the truck just as they were closing. OMG!! Some of the most delicious birria tacos and consume we have ever had!! The meat was soooo tender and flavorful!! We will definitely be back before we leave Waikiki!! Update.... Okay listen. I'm no expert in Mexican food. Being from Hawaii, our Mexican cuisine is far and between some of the most disappointing in the US. It's a pretty known fact lol. Over the years we have been seeing a lot of new Mexican restaurants opening up and they've been getting better! Tlacauches808 being one of them. A little well dressed food truck parked behind MaxMara in Waikiki, don't let the location deceive you. There's a few food trucks and restaurants in this tiny little nook but Tlacauches808 really stands out. They've collected signs and interior decor from the surrounding previous tenants that closed in the midst of the pandemic. There's a small outdoor seating area right next to the truck too! The menu isn't really huge but what they do offer is -chefs kiss-. The guy that takes your order is friendly and pretty talkative (at least to me but that could be because I ask a lot of questions lol). And he's super enthusiastic about the food. He said the items in the yellow surfboards in the menu (the carnitas and the birria tacos) are their most popular items. I've only been twice and so far I've had the birria tacos and the shredded beef quesadilla. Both are filling, flavorful, and well seasoned. Their homemade salsa mojave is pretty dang spicy (and I'm pretty tolerant to spice). There's tons of pepper seeds visible in their salsa so you KNOW. The consommé that comes with the birria is super chunky and packed with flavor. Some places I've tried birria the consommé was almost watered down and kind of bland, but not here. It has fresh onions and cilantro, and packed with the birria meat. You can also order a side of it to any plate for an additional price which I HIGHLY recommend. I was definitely missing it when I had my quesadilla lol. You can have either a salad, rice and beans, or nachitos on the side with your plates. The rice and beans were pretty good. Well seasoned and the beans were cheesy. But I definitely prefer their nachitos, which are basically just a tiny side of chips with salsa and some toppings. They've 100% gained a regular customer with me. I plan to eventually try everything on the menu. read more

Great Mexican food truck hidden in Waikiki! It's behind the Ritz Carlton. I had the shredded beef Tijuana nachos and bf had carne asada burrito with fries. Delicious! With outdoor seating and koi ponds I feel like I'm risking giving up short lines to the fact of giving this place such a great review and it becoming a hit spot but people y'all NEED to know this spot. We had chips and salsa of course but the Tlacuaches Bowl was just amazing and it wasn't even my meal...but I promised I helped my amigo finish it off! I personally had the BEST carnitas plate with real TOASTED corn tortillas and what had to be a copy cat recipe of my abuelas arroz y frijoles! I almost cried! This is hubby's new favorite Mexican restaurant. Portions at huge for the price, and has lots of flavor. Hubby did take out, and because the containers was paper like a lot of plate lunches, it was crushed and when he got home. Salsa and consumme is a little on the spicy side but delicious. Taco salad was fresh tasting with the carne Asada. Strawberry horchata was perfect to cool the heat for me since I'm a light weight when it comes to spice. Hubby was the only one there during lunch.
