Garlic shrimp from a liquor store? Yes please! Probably the last place I would expect a good plate lunch, but I'm always down for some good food! Saw this place on someone else's IG and had to go. Got a normal garlic shrimp and a two scoop spicy. The spicy is HOT! I died. My face melted and I gave up after two shrimp. Nothing would fix it. If you love hot, go for it. If you're a wuss like me, normal non spicy is where it's at. For the price, it's a good value. Will be back for some normal garlic shrimp!

This place is good. It's unexpected because it's inside of a tiny mini market called Gorae but it's $14 for spicy and $15 for garlic butter. These shrimps are flavorful! It's got a little bit of Korean twist to it. A little bit sweet but spicy. I got half scoop and I thought it was pretty spicy. Anyways, I recommend it! A kakaako gem!

I thought they were gone for good but I just found out they moved! They are now located inside a small korean mini mart across longs drugs & Ohana hale Im so glad I was able to find my favorite spicy garlic shrimp!

Spicy garlic shrimp plate review: Much much better than Giovanni's shrimp shack. This is hands down the best shrimp place I've been. I'm a huge fan of spice and this place did the job well. Composition & portion: Main: Rice, shrimp Sides: salad, Mac salad, pickled veggies, chicken Very large and filling Taste: Seasoned to perfection. So much garlic, not much grease. Spice level: If you like a good kick I would go with 1/2 a spoon or 1 spoon spice. If you want to be obliterated, try the 2 spoon (the owners gave me a wide eyed warning). The spice from a two spoon will leave your stomach (and more) in pain for hours (at best)! Texture: Shrimp shell is crispy and crunchy. Perfect for if you like to eat the shell with the shrimp to take in all the flavors! Unlike Giovanni's plastic textured shrimp shells, you can definitely enjoy these.

This is a minimart not a food truck. I am not sure if this is associated with the kahuka food truck. The shrimp were good, they were shell on and butterflied. They weren't very spicy, but had a mild heat (we got the regular, we could've made it spicier). The mart is korean owned so the sides were more korean than traditional hawaiian plates. The shrimp were good but nothing amazing but we were starving after the pearl harbor museum and decided to stop by here than the Giovanni's Edit at end of trip. This was one of the better style shrimp plates we got. Out of all of the different shrimp styles, I like the Kahuku shrimp style vs the traditional garlic/scampi.

Garlic Shrimp in Honolulu, Hawaii... I was so happy to see this vendor - Kahuku Shrimp - at Ohana Hale Marketplace (OHM)! The parking is free; the environment is bright and air conditioned; and it's conveniently located in town - not in Kahuku (the North Shore is rather far away)! Just walk to the the far right corner of OHM. The stall is in the last row of vendors! This was my third day of free lunch during Mother's Day weekend 2020. I knew the system - be in line by 10am at the entrance where Tiny Tadani will distribute about 5 vouchers per participating restaurants at this food court. The previous two days, I had Chinese and Vietnamese cuisine. I was ready for Korean... There were two choices of shrimp plate: garlic or spicy. If you choose spicy, let her know how spicy you want your shrimp to be. I chose Garlic Shrimp because I am a spice wimp! LOL! This type of garlic shrimp is slightly on the sweet side with a light batter. Each of the eight plump shrimps were butterflied so the shell was easier to peel off. The banchan included kimchee daikon, sweet sour seaweed, savory cabbage, and tender broccoli. They all had various textures and seasonings - very fun for the palate! I really enjoyed this lunch and am glad that I ate it at home. It was a bit messy even though I wore gloves! I'm glad that I had a sink nearby! Thanks to Ohana Hale Marketplace and Tiny Tadani for the free lunch. The plate was only $13, so the $15 voucher covered the entire meal! Mahalo!

Located in the Ohana Hale Marketplace at stall #32 is this new food stall featuring the famous North Shore food truck-style Kahuku shrimp. This stall is sandwiched between Ohana Poke House and Consuelo's Kusina but can be easily found if you follow your nose. This is a one-woman run food stall and her specialties are either garlic or spicy shrimp plates à la North Shore. You can even specify the level of spiciness that you want. Order and pay at the counter, pull up a seat and be ready to dive into a sumptuous plate of robustly seasoned and tender sweet shrimp. Both styles of Kahuku shrimp plates cost $13 each. In case you're wondering, this one woman food stall was formerly located on Keeaumoku Street as Gorae Restaurant where her shrimp dishes rivaled some of the best North Shore food trucks. Very friendly and hospitable service. We'll be back soon as we won't have to fight the traffic or suffer eating out along a dusty roadside.

If you love spicy this is the spot! This is top 3 of the places we've eaten in Oahu. Food was ready in 7 minutes.

LOCATION CHANGE!!! Across the street from Ohana Hale Marketplace. It's the Go-Rae Mini Market. Super hole in the wall. Super bomb!!! Garlicky, spicy, crunch (from the fried garlic), and not drenched in butter!!! Had this everyday the 5 days I've been here. This place is worth it!!! It's gonna be tough to beat. But the picture speaks for itself. Served with some bomb Mac salad and Korean style pickles. They make their own Kim-chi and pickle radish!!! Pick those sides up!! You won't regret!!! Owners were super sweet!!

Satisfied my spicy garlic shrimp craving without having to drive to north shore. Korean style served with banchan. A half scoop of spice was great, not too spicy but still has a little kick (medium spicy). No shells on the shrimp make it easier to eat. Located inside a small market across from the Ohana Hale Marketplace.

Façade. Korean name is , hanja 古來。
    Cuyler O.

Go-Rae (hanja: 古來) looks like another mini-mart on the outside. But what you wouldn't imagine is the quality of the shrimp inside. From ordering and paying to getting the plate took about five minutes. The store is a mom-and-pop mini mart run by Korean folks. Their take on the North shore classic is definitely inspired by Korean flavors as well. Instead of the typical Sriracha butter sauce, you'll find that their shrimp is swimming in a gochujang butter sauce, which ends up being slightly sweeter since gochujang contains glutinous rice flour. Also, as part of the plate, you have four banchan (Korean side dishes)--corn, buchimgae (pancake), cabbage, and radish. Garlic lovers rejoice--there was no shortage of crispy garlic here. The one star was knocked down because the rice wasn't as consistent as I know it can (and should) be. Part of my rice was clumpy, and part of my rice was dry. If you're in the area and want garlic shrimp for a few dollars less than Giovanni (my plate was $13 + tax), try Go-Rae. It's so messy but so worth it.

Garlic shrimp (just as good as Giovanni's!)

10/10 BETTER THAN GIOVANNIS!! It comes with Korean Side dishes :) This location is in a small mom-and-pop liquor store. They have pictures of the garlic shrimps outside so you can't miss it. The Korean store owner (?) was very kind and welcoming. There's no "menu" list to look at since there's only the 2 items. I was waiting outside and he came out to give my order. Would highly recommend!

Super tasty shrimp with only a 5 minute wait! Located in a mini mart across from Long's. I got the spicy garlic shrimp, medium spice and it came with ban chan. It was just the right amount of spice for me and had a slightly sweet flavor. My only wish was that it was a little saucier so the rice would be extra flavorful after I inhaled the shrimp, but I would still get it again.

A night in Kaka'ako is always a fun place to explore, and just be entertained!…read more The Honolulu Night Market at Our Kaka'ako is indeed a fabulous adventure into the biggest street/block party filled to the brim with all things local...food, retail and culture. I've been to so many and each and every one is very unique where you can find either fashion runway stage, live street art, or even a dance night in the barn. I just love the vibe SALT and surrounding Our Kaka'ako brings with the vibrant art we're so blessed to have and this particular night (November 19th) there was actually much more shopping just perfect for the holidays and the party went further down to Ya-ya's. Tonight I was fortunate to have gone after work so I kept it short but found some awesome treats. Some straw toppers to add to my holiday gift giving and some cheesecake cups (OG, Strawberry and Cookie Butter) of course I got one of each to share...ate the Strawberry which of course omg was yummy!! Not too sweet as the Strawberries was just perfect as I tried to get an even scoop of it all in every bite. Walked further down and honestly wasn't in the mood to wait too long for anything found something that would just exactly work for me. Ya-Ya's Chophouse & Seafood and tonight they had two items - Steak Kebabs - Fat Fried Rice with TAB (aka Thick Ass Bacon lol!) I seriously wanted the fried rice but thought that the Steak Kebabs was more sensible for me personally and it came with two kebabs each fully loaded with steak, mushrooms, peppers and onions with a huge scoop of rice! So many options I really was considering including Henna from Henna Happens, Birria Tacos from Dolce Vita, Corn from Corn Onoz Hawaii but though there's always a next time yes!?! I remember pre-pandemic Yelp had a booth here and hoping as things return to normalcy that we'll see it back again one day (hint hint!) John is so sweet, he even offered me the hot dog on the house... completely unexpected, but a true reflection of John's demeanor. I went with the chicken hot dog "John style" (well that is everything but the sauerkraut). I wasn't hesitate about the mustard because I'm usually not a fan but the staff insisted it was more like Dijon mustard anyways. The hotdog was loaded, flavorful, and way better than I expected for someone who usually keeps it simple with the toppings. The bun broke down a bit from all the toppings, but that was to be expected with all the toppings loaded on there. You can't beat the location, it's right outside the Ilikai by the lagoon though the service alone makes this an easy five stars. I'm really happy this ended up being one of my last food experiences living in Hawaii. I'd be eager to see John and his staff again if I return.
