I always pass by here and noticed the line but never really made an effort to try it but decided today is the day - Hurricane Tralala I figured Hurricane Talalaga would steer a lot of people away from going out while my crazy as* was out running so I decided to give it a try. My order was taken promptly and the cashier was very nice. I was told that my food would be available at the pickup when finished. It was still a bit of a wait - but I'm a patient person and I figured it would be worth it - and oh my goodness it was DELICIOUS. So it looks unassuming from the front but there's actually a lot of dine-in seating in the back! Pick up your order and you can just eat it right there. I liked how there was some stools for solo diners like myself. I was able to enjoy my fish burrito in peace. Fish burrito I got was so tender and I usually eat raw fish so I'm particular on fish quality but the Ono fish was cooked perfectly and just melded perfectly with all the coleslaw they put with it. I LOVE spicy and that chili aioli they have at the front oh my god. Next time I'm going to pack at least 3 sauce cups of that sauce because it was so perfect with my fish burrito. Needless to say this was such an amazing protein-filled meal and I will be back. It was so filling and satisfying. I get the hype and I want to go back again. South shore grill is a legendary local spot just on the other side of kapahulu near kapiolani park. Everything here is so fresh and tasty. You can't go wrong, but the Cajun fish burrito is my personal favorite. The fish is always seasoned and cooked perfectly. And whatever they put in the white sauce is simply divine. The condiment stand has salsa and franks red hot - and I recommend slathering both on top for extra flavor. The Kalbi is also really good and I pretty regularly get the peanut butter temptation bites. You should too. Staff is super friendly. And while there is usually a wait, the food comes out pretty fast. It's good for dine in and take out for the nearby park and beaches. I appreciate the little touches here like the art and the chalkboard for playing games while you wait. Just overall super chill. And I love that they sell surf wax because this has somehow become the place where I buy it the most! Definitely swing by if you have the chance. You won't regret it! read more

We wanted shave ice from across the street but had to have lunch first so decided to try here since we usually just go Ruger but since that's gonzos need a new spot. Got the ono tacos. Didn't realize the sides and so just left as is... rice, mac salad, slaw. Rice not needed with tacos, and the slaw lacked flavor. Baby ate that with ketchup and was happy. Slaw was the star of the show. Not really a slaw person, but that was tasty and not too unhealthy feeling. Tacos were good, but not enough ono compared to the slaw in that. Hubs got mauka to makai...chose kalbi and ono. His rice was from the bottom the pot...maybe pot from day before. Hard and burnt. Couldn't eat most of it. Kalbi pretty good. I scraped of the sauce and liked it. Meat soft. His ono same as my ono so I didn't try, but he said good. Cute place. Parking can be little challenging in that area, but we found a spot across the street. I was craving fish tacos at night and luckily South Shore was just a quick drive away. You can tell this is one of those casual local spots. They have a great variety of options on their menu, and I ordered the ono tacos, a kalbi taco, and onion rings. It seemed like there was only one chef and two girls were working the register and maybe prepping the takeout orders? Food took maybe 15 minutes and the portions were generous. The fish tacos were soooo tasty, especially with the cabbage slaw they put on top. It was marinated with some delicious sauce and made the taco. The kalbi was also a solid choice, and the meat was savory and flavorful. Also, the onion rings were fried to order and make sure to get a side of their addicting garlic aioli. I found this restaurant on Yelp because of its high ratings. I did notice a few negative reviews but decided to give it a try anyway. Unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The restaurant felt rundown, and the dining space was extremely small. The seating area in the back felt cramped, closed off, and almost claustrophobic, so I chose to sit in the front instead. As for the food, it was disappointing. The fish was dry and rubbery, the beef was very salty, and I did not care for the rice. The vegetables were heavily covered in mayonnaise, which was not to my taste. I only took a few bites of my meal and did not finish it. My husband finished his meal and described it as "okay," but neither of us felt it was anything special. The one positive was the service. The staff was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Overall, based on the atmosphere, food quality, value, and the drive to get there, I would not return. The girl at the front was friendly and there are probably around 20-25 seats available for dine in. There is a bathroom available for patrons, but you have to be lucky with parking sometimes. Food was good and the portions were adequate for the price. They have stars next to their popular dishes so that helps when you're undecided on what to eat. The texture of the fish had lack of moisture and too firm making it difficult to enjoy. The tortilla didn't seem like it was even cooked. Continued to take a couple of bites more and not let it bug me, but then there was another hair lodged deep within the entire burrito. I then spit out my bite and asked them to make me another burrito, they would have but only 50% off instead of making me another one free of charge. Gross burrito and bad service. We got the cajun shrimp plate (more like garlic shrimp, really garlicky and not too cajun but very delicious. Tuna mac salad didn't taste any tuna but was still decent, love the hapa rice), pastrami sandwich (family loved this, I'm not a huge pastrami fan), suicide aka poutine fries (no cheese curds, but shredded cheddar and gravy, this was just ok), and onion rings (good size portion for about $5). What really impressed me were the desserts. I really enjoyed the carrot cake (super moist, good flavor), chocolate cake (pretty good, bottom layer a bit dry but still good), peanut butter temptation (heard someone in line talk about it, peanut butter cookie with reese's inside, amazing). Service is simple you order at the small counter, and while there was a line today, it took no time to get through. The place looks tiny inside, but despite the crowd we were able to find a seat. They call your name at the window when your order is ready and then it's time to enjoy! My one must have here is the Suicide Fries. It's poutine style with gravy and melted cheese. The fries are crisp and holds up well to the toppings. It's oh so good! I tried it once with tots, I mean who doesn't love tots, but it wasn't sturdy enough for the toppings. My friend got the grilled Cajun ono burrito and I got the two-taco plate with one grilled Cajun ono taco and one kalbi taco. The aioli is amazing. It's flavorful, tangy, and light - it pairs so well with the fish. I love the concept of the kalbi taco, and it was pretty good, but not the best kalbi flavor - it was kind of dry, too :-/ I'm not really sure why the two-taco plate comes with rice honestly bc there's not really anything to eat it with lol. I tried adding it into the tacos but it didn't add much to it imo. I would probably try the fries next time. But the tuna mac salad is tasty and I love the coleslaw! read more
