Seriously, this place is worth the walk away from the main drag. Even growing up in Albuquerque New Mexico? This place gives that whole city a run for it's money. First, looking back and online elsewhere, I *think* the owner met us at the window with an enthusiastic smile. And then I ordered the Tlacuaches Style Tacos. Filled to brim with meat and their special, absolutely phenomenally delicious salsa. Along with rice and beans. The box felt like it weighed about 3-4 pounds! My jaw dropped with every bite and I actually had to close my eyes to savor the flavor. People use the word "hidden gem" a lot here on this app, but honestly? Based on the photos I uploaded? So happy to finally try Tlacuaches808 They have really good reviews and we'll deserved. Currently they are not taking phone orders and completely understandable given that it was a two man crew. The food was amazing. I ordered 3 carne asada burritos and their popular dish crispy carnitas. Wow so good. The meat was very flavorful and really tender. They said since the steaks are cooked to order and they had a little extra they made a couple of tacos to try out. They definitely did not disappoint. If anyone is wondering Tlacuaches means Possum. Wish I would have taken pics but the destruction that was left after we devoured everything wasn't very photo friendly. Next time. Great service food came out super fast and the gentleman at the window was super nice. Food was excellent. Glad they are are close by and will be hitting them up again soon. read more

Mannn. This place is a must go. We were walking on Kalakaua Ave last night. Looking for a place to eat. Saw a sign that said Mexican food with a little arrow and headed that direction. So glad we did. There was 11 of us and we were all satisfy. We had the chicken chipotle. Flautas. Birria tacos tlacuache style. Carne asada nachos and everything tasted so good. Loved the little set up they have. Staff is really nice. It was almost time to close and he still took our orders. Gracias a Dios es Martes. Its time for tacos!! I have been driving by this place wondering about their food for some time now? How long have they been here? And how is it that I haven't tried it until today?! Really, this truck hasn't been at this location on Cooke and Kawaiahao Street that long; maybe a couple of months? Still, now that I know how good the food is, and reasonably priced, want to kick myself back a couple of months so I could have enjoyed these delicious offerings just a bit longer. Its soooo good! Being Tuesday, it seemed the right thing to eat was tacos! I ordered the taco sampler (4 different tacos). Was pleasantly thrilled when Mario, one of the owners, advised that on Tuesdays the already reasonably priced plate (usually $12.95) is discounted by $2. Well, that just sealed the deal for me...I had to get the upgrade add on of rice and beans! Jess, owner #2, made my taco plate with so much care and aloha. I enjoyed talking to them while I waited the few minutes. Learned about the meaning of the truck name. I appreciate that Jess made me a special sample taco of birria for me. Loved the birria broth that was given on the side...and at their suggestion, I added some of the broth to the rice. BAM! What a winning combination! Finishing off my takeout was a nice treat that was given with my order. If there were anything I wish were different, I would wish for a crispier taco shell, still, me bicycling it home before I ate them am sure did not help. Will have to eat it freshly made next time. Can't wait to try their loaded Tlacuache sandwich built on a long french roll and filled with roast beef, ham, pastrami, various cheese and potatoes. I made a mistake and accidentally over ordered for our group online. Mario answered the phone and was quick to understand, easy to work with, and soon reversed the incorrect orders (and charges). he confirmed the new order again and then thanked me. ended up eating the food for 6 a little later than we'd have liked (not their fault at all). but it was SO delicious! even my crispy flautas held up pretty well to being trapped in the container for over 30 min. friend's birria tacos tlacuaches style were really beefy and tasty with lots of depth! everyone liked their food and it was all of our first time. - chicken flautas - birria tacos - shredded beef burrito - carnitas plate - chicken chimichanga - steak fajitas next time we'll eat it closer to pickup time. coming back for the pastrami sometime soon! happy to support this local business! read more

We got a large order that we placed online in transit to the restaurant and when we got there the middle aged dude at the counter barked at us that the food wasn't ready since we just placed it so my daughter said, that she just wanted to let him know that we were here. He was very rude and short with her and she was upset that he treated her so disrespectfully. We have been on a mission to try all of the Mexican food that we can in Honolulu as we love and miss the Southwestern style food that we grew up with. The food was just okay, the birria tacos were our least favorite and the burrito was our favorite. So far we like Tio's Tamales the best for best all around flavor and the owner at Tio's is welcoming and appreciative when you both order and pickup. I think it is time for customers to be treated well as well as treating servers and restaurant workers well! Even if the man at the front hadn't been rude to us we prolly wouldn't return as the food just seemed to be missing something. If Straight Outta Husk were closer to us we would return there-- occasionally. I still think $110 for 3 lunches of Mexican food is too steep at Husk. Colorado still has tons of excellent Mexican food, well-seasoned and consistently good with fresh ingredients and good portions for a reasonable charge. No way would 3 lunches be $110, but Hawaii is Hawaii, and we can choose to patronize other places. Kau Kau Grill and Kahai Kitchen still have fabulous food for very reasonable charges. I'm totally okay with a $22 dollar plate lunch which is generous and consistently prepared with tender protein and fresh veggies. We support local and small businesses every day here, but there has to be inherent value for customers to spend our hard-earned money there as well. I was told by my friend to try this place out for lunch if your craving for Mexican food. It's the da bomb. I was really craving for Chicken Katsu Curry from Queens BBQ but I was also craving for Birrias Tacos since I never had it before. So, I'll try something new today. It was a 15 min walk from Punchbowl office to Queens/Cooke St. Turning left and across is this lunch truck. There it is! I see Tacos, Chimichangas, and more on the menu with sodas and hand sanitizers/sink for cleansing. What should I get? I wanted but I up getting the Roll Up Your Sleeves since I may hardly come by due to long walk. I placed my order and talk about good timing, the line for long from other people from the nearby offices. Damn, this was huge!! It had all their favorites in one. Waffle fries which I never had before in my life was crispy and yummy. Those Birria Tacos were tasty and very meaty (no fat!!!) and salsa on top was good. I love the dip for the tacos. Nachos were also good and topped with nacho cheese. The ribs and wings (BBQ suggested by the cashier) was so tangy, good that you want to shut the front door and enjoy your moment! Rib meat fell out the bone with ease. Overall, good food but portion was so big that's I needed to eat the other half the next day or share with another person. Cost is $16.95 plus tax but it's worth every penny. My coworkers saw my lunch and probably were drooling behind their mask. They asked me to take them there next week because they now wants to try out their food. Guess I will be returning soon to try out other items on the menu. This place has decent food but I would say it's not authentic Mexican. I ordered the 3 steak tacos plate which comes over a bed of tortilla chips. The steak was cut in large strips which is not the typical presentation of carne asada tacos. The onion was chopped in pieces that were also a bit large for my liking. The carnitas were well seasoned but had melted cheese over the top which I thought was unusual. If you are craving Tex-Mex then this is probably a good place for you to check out. read more

Just happen to find this place by accident. All I can say is one of the best tacos I've had in long time. And of all place food truck in Hawaii. I had the Barria tacos and it was freaking awesome... I had my share of many different tacos and most definitely my top 2 favorite tacos I've eaten. Only minus is that the rice was little blend for me. This place is the real deal! On our way to the gym we seen a sign for this & ended up finding it after our workout. So far, we've been here a few times in the past week. We've tried the Birria tacos, the burrito, and chicken tacos. Everything is so fresh and they really give you big portions! I mean the burrito was seriously huge!! I really enjoyed what I ordered and so did my wife and kids. We ordered the birria tacos, carnitas plate, quesadilla and street tacos. I really liked that I was able to order a jalapeño toreado, which makes my food always taste better if it's spicy. We ordered horchatas as our drinks. I've seen this food truck parked down the street from my place for the last few months and decided to finally check it out. The guy that took my order ("MJ"?, based on previous reviews) was super chill. Was able to talk story while I was waiting for my food since they weren't busy (I beat the lunch hour rush I think). Got a carne asada burrito w/rice & beans for me and the carne asada tacos w/rice & beans for the GF. Food was served super quick! The carne asada was super tender but didn't seem to have too much flavor but I put cholula (which they give in single size packets) on my burrito so that didn't bother me much, and the tacos had enough extras on it that my GF didn't seem to notice. The burrito and tacos had a generous amount of carne asada in big chunks...definitely didn't have to go searching for it in my burrito. I will have to add that the side rice they serve is the best rice I've had from a Mexican place. The rice is dry at all the other places I've eaten at but the rice here is moist but not mushy. I don't know if the rice is typically supposed to be dry but I prefer the rice here. Will definitely be back to try some of their other offerings! read more

The food was some of the best Mexican food I n Waikiki, and ive tried most. Their quesadillas are cheesy and full of protein, and there burritos can almost feed 2 people! Salsas were full of flavor and delicious. Only complaint- chips could have been more salty, but largely irrelevant when paired with the salsa and queso. read more
