I'm new to the area and needed to take my car to someone trustworthy because I usually take my car to the dealership because I don't trust mechanics. After a google search I saw good reviews for TLD and thought I give them a try because Toyota dealership quoted me the cost of my car to replace the battery. I took my Prius in and Dan really impressed me, Dan knows his Toyotas like the back of his hand and he is so passionate about what he does. Dan takes pride in his work and does VERY thorough job. He educated me on why he had his recommendations and took pictures and showed me how dirty my fluids and filters were. He will educate you on how to keep your car running well long term. I'm a cheapskate and always trying to cut cost but I really appreciated his approach to investing in maintenance to prevent from having those large repairs or ruining your car by avoiding maintenance or taking shortcuts. Dan has a distinct philosophy on car service. When I first came to him for a service check, he explained that he believes in service prior to the manufacturer's recommendations to reduce liability of wear and tear to the cars. This made sense to me, and I was happy to hear his passion and explanation. When I reached 50,000 miles, he recommended the following services: Engine coolants $159 Inverter coolants $159 Transmission fluids $210 EFI fuel intake decarbonize service $169... And the oil change at 50,000 miles.... Engine steam cleaning $95... normally $125. I reviewed the Toyota manufacturer model for my car and simply asked for clarification on why his recommendations differed from the 50,000 service check Toyota owner's manual. I told him I trusted his expertise but wanted to be on the same page before dropping off the car. He stated he was too busy to answer my question and was not interested in a conversation because he had answered it 6 months ago at our last appointment (but I did not remember). He ended the conversation by saying, "If you do not want to take any of these recommendations, no need to come in today," and recommended I go to another Toyota service. To me, it's poor customer service not being able to help the customer get consent and understanding before each appointment especially for a returning customer. I did not think that people like Dan, the owner of TLD, existed in the car service and repair industry. I found him based on his excellent reviews. A person cannot have that many 5-star reviews if they were not great. My 2006 Camry has always been serviced annually, but it is not driven much. So, things kind of slip by. Dan did a thorough evaluation. He could hear the alternator was bad, which the test confirmed. He pointed out what needed to be done now, and what was coming up in the future. He worked on the car on Friday and Saturday until 7:00 PM. He communicated with me every hour or so to show me what was going on, the color of bad fluids, his progress, etc. His original assessment was correct. He discovered two items that were not apparent from the visual inspection. Both were understandable and not dealt with in a long time. Good eye. His pricing is fair and he only uses Toyota parts. No aftermarket second tier stuff to save money in the short term. The car was washed, which I did not expect. A lot of places have good service, but Dan is a part of the experience and skill of TLD. It is as much a point of pride for him that the work was well done as it is for the customer to have good work done. After I left, he sent me many text messages Saturday evening with recommendations for operating the car for longer life. I am not related to Dan, nor do I know him or anyone who knows him. Before I found Dan at TDL, I had called a few places in search of services on my Lexus without having to go to Lexus. I was told by another shop who didn't service Lexus' that TDL was the place, and oh boy, I can guarantee that I definitely was not disappointed with the work and knowledge this man has! throughout the repair he kept me very well informed and updated on the status of the car and the work it got done. I drove for months with a loud noise on the rear not knowing what was wrong and he fixed the problem. He did a rear end differential service, front and rear alignment, replaced an extremely bad bearing/axle. While we waited on parts to be delivered. He serviced my AC and replaced all my filters. My daughter's 2009 Prius air conditioner was not working at all. Upon my arrival Dan asked me a few questions and diagnosed the problem immediately. Because I arrived without an appointment I assumed I would have to return the car later in the week but he advised me to leave the car for servicing. Wow! What mechanic does that without an appointment. I left and received hourly updates (pics) of the work he was completing which there again was something I was not expecting. Seeking a second opinion for upcoming 120K maintenance for my 2015 Avalon, I rolled up to TLD Auto Service-Toyota Lexus Diagnostic. Had seen their street sign but otherwise knew nothing about them. Met mechanic Dan who outlined what needed to be done and then some! Totally impressed by his knowledge and professionalism. Decided to give them a try. While waiting for the car, I went to breakfast at Dimples Diner next door, and while enjoying my omelet, I was surprised to start seeing multiple texts and photos detailing progress of work and great tidbits of info. I'm not used to that. Ever. Dan recommended that I switch from Regular unleaded to Premium gas for my V6. Hmm, I haven't heard that from a mechanic before. Dan has been convincing so far, okay I thought. Just returned from a Las Vegas road trip that was undeniably a better ride/performance than the 3 others before TLD Auto Service visit. Dan recommended an "EFI fuel intake decarbonize service that would gain 10% - 15% more in fuel economy". I was on a family trip to Sequoia National Park, when my Toyota Sienna broke down. Thank god I found Dan from TLD. He was able to take the car in right away and meticulously examined every single part of the car. He located the problem and immediately placed an order for parts from a quality factory. I appreciated that he had experience working with Toyota and Lexus directly for over 12 years. Let me just say he does not skip steps, cut corners, or use cheap parts. His craftsmanship is impeccable and his attention to detail is impressive. Although it was an older family car, he treated it with the utmost respect and care as if it was his own child. We ended up renting a car so we could continue our family trip. Throughout the trip, I would get continuous updates from Dan via text. He was very communicative every step of the way. The shop was closed the day we returned from our trip and Dan went out of his way to open the store and accommodate us. When I received the final bill, I was given an itemized receipt with line by line details along with accompanying photos. Everything was done with honesty and integrity so I did not once feel cheated. He even washed the car for me! Dan inspected my car and said nothing was wrong with it except for a loose nuts on the heat shield of the catalytic converter. He tightened up all the nuts and inspected my entire vehicle. Upon inspection, Dan discovered there was a leak surrounding the oil pan and my rear brake was worn out. I made an appointment with Dan the next day to have the oil pan gasket and brakes replaced. On the referral from a fellow Toyota owner & friend whose opinion I greatly respect. I met with TLD Auto Service owner Dan Nguyen. To initially have our 2004 Avalon's upper & lower radiator hoses, thermostat replaced, and radiator flush. In meeting with Dan, it quickly became evident that Dan is a throw back to what our Dad's & Grandfather's had in finding a skilled and honest mechanic. Who is a straight shooter and will only replace or perform service that is truly needed. My friend had already informed me of Dan's text communication with photos during his service. Used to clearly point out a part that should be replaced. In my case he even provided side by side text photos of the existing part's condition, compared to a new OEM replacement part. On dropping off the Avalon, I told Dan to keep me posted on any issue he may come across during his service. In the end, in addition to the coolant system being addressed. I approved a throttle body cleaning, AC freon & compressor oil service-hadn't had that performed in over 4 years, oil change, all fluids checked & leveled. Dan had the entire engine compartment detailed-it looks imaculate, he cleaned the corrosion off the battery terminal, tires were rotated, car was washed, and he even adjusted the parking brake. All for a price that was extremely fair! My wife drove the car home from Dan's shop. Mentioning her car "drives like a dream." Not that I was doubting her assessment. Ok, maybe a little bit, afterall it wasn't like the car was running rough the last time I drove it. So I took it for a test ride and yes punched it a bit to see how it accelerated. And must say it responded well and although the AC was cooling okay prior to the service, I could tell a improvement after the service. I'm sold, from here on in, there is only one place I'll be taking my current and future Toyota/s for service, that being TLD Auto Service! read more
