I'm leaving a review to protect people. If these RJ folks think you don't know cars (and if you don't who cares) they will try and take all your money. I had some issues with my honda civic a while back, she is a little old but anyone with a honda knows how reliable they are. Anyways. I take my car in to get a "check up", and they send me an email with tons of photos of the undercarriage of my car, it looked pretty messy not gonna lie. They quote me 6000. Saying my engine, and every part they sent a photo of needs to be replaced. I panic, obviously, and decide to get a second opinion. I take it to a really nice guy who proceeds to tell me I had a loose oil cap and oil was spilling making everything dirty. And all I needed was a new one and my oil refilled. Costed me 60 bucks. These RJ people are scammers, and take advantage of those they know they can. read more

I love these guys. Went here about a year ago and there was one expensive thing I needed but they said it could wait and to drive it a couple thousand miles to make sure my engine light didn't go on again for another issue. It didn't so I haven't gone back and it's barely 2000 miles. But I'm going to drive to LA this weekend and at the last minute thought I'd better check and make sure. They made sure she was fixed up and grapevine ready within 24 hours. The expensive thing is still ok and can wait some more. Will check in at next oil change. But they did find a few other maintenance issues that needed attention and may have caused me to get stuck out there. I have yet to be disappointed when taking my three vehicles to RJ Automotive. I've been taking my cars there since 2019, for simple maintenance such as oil changes to more involved repairs. My 2004 Corolla had a bizarre issue which caused the vehicle to sporadically not to start. Initially, it was frustrating, however, after a few back and forth trips, Luis was ultimately able to identify the issue and permanently rectified it. Turns out, it a was long forgotten vehicle immobilizer. Lastly, Jennifer has been very communicative when keeping me posted on the status. read more

Great service! After a horrible experience waiting for AAA, (about 2.5 hours) I was finally able to roll in at almost closing time. They were super friendly and efficient and had my battery replaced and me on my way home in about 20 minutes. I had to get some much needed love done to my truck. A few calls around i ended up going to Rj's....the referrals helped too! A simple call to make an appointment was all i needed. The receptionist was incredibly nice and helpful when explaining what had to be done, how long itd take...and so on. Absolute pleasure talking to her! Check engine light was on. Turned out I had an air leak in one of my hoses. FIXED! Ended up needing a new serpentine belt. DONE! The work was awesome and clean. Attention to detail!! Thats what i like to see!! Luke and Arnold did awesome!! Ended up going back to get new brakes, a trans flush and a differential service done before i left the state. Once again....they took awesome care of my truck!! I cant reccomend this place enough! The prices were incredibly fair! Yea....you dont hear that coming from a mechanic shop. But its true! Seriously....just call and make an appointment to get the work done here. Dont waste time calling around trying to find a shop. Save yourself the hassle and just go here! I like that you have to make an appointment so you dont have to guess when your car will be done, calling 6+hrs AFTER you dropped it off in hopes the mechanics got to it yet. They do a great job of explaining what needs to happen as well as I love the idea that they email you pictures of what is going on. I happened to have two new parts for my Dodge Dakota that needed to be installed, and he offered to do the work without charge. He did alot of work on my truck, including installing a heater core, apologized for my last experience at his shop, and now I feel I can honestly recommend RJ Automotive to anyone needing auto repair. I have never left a Yelp review but this place screwed my husband and I over so bad I have to say something. I see there are good reviews here so obviously they haven't screwed over everyone, but if you are looking for a new mechanic my advice would be to stay clear away from this shop due to my personal experience. We called RJ's and informed them we had a minor oil leak that needs to be fixed, that the car runs perfect otherwise, has no issues, just needs the leak fixed. We dropped off the car, they called my husband the next day and said it would be around $400. They also said there were 4 censors that were out and needed to be repaired however we told them to not replace those, that we did not have the money right now (we had just bought a home that same month and hardly had the $400). They went on to try and per-sway my rather passive and trustworthy husband, who can be all too easy to take advantage of. My husband finally agreed for them to replace 2 but only 2 of the censors. RJ's said it would only be a little more of a cost. We got the call when it was done so my husband went to pick it up where they proceeded to tell him they just decided to do all 4 of them....??? But will only charge for the parts not the labor and they charged us around $800. We could not believe that they had done this. I couldn't believe a company actually operated like that, just works on parts without your permission and against what you instructed & then charges you for it. We literally didn't have the money & had to charge it on a credit card. Not to mention this was December, christmas & holiday time. I could not believe this company had such low ethics. But hey, they "fixed it" so we paid the money and figured at least we are completely done with it & the car won't have anymore problems. So even though that was an extremely unprofessional & sketchy move on their part we walked away not too worked up. But then my husband went to start the car & it wouldn't even start..after a few minutes of trying and having to keep his foot on the gas the car started and was extremely loud, making crazy noises & the entire car shaking super super bad, it also had black smoke billowing out of the exhaust pipe non-stop. You have to keep your foot on the gas or else it dies. I begged my husband to go back in and demand a refund. As the car ran PERFECTLY when we brought it to them in the first place, which we had stated originally & they knew this and had to know what they did and were just hoping we wouldn't call them out on it. My husband decided to instead drive it home. Once we got there I talked him into calling them, my husband was very nice & told them what was happening and asked them how this happened since when we brought it in it ran perfectly and now this. They told him that was actually completely normal and will "burn off and run perfect within 100 miles." I knew this is not how things work but my husband wanted to give them the benefits of the doubt so we drove the 100 miles which was extremely scary and dangerous (once again, no ethics or morals). When it didn't "burn off" my husband brought it back to them where they continued to try and take advantage of a nice young couple. They said well now the injection pump needs to be replaced and that we'll only charge you for the part, which will be $1200. I told my husband we are absolutely not having them touch our vehicle again & I could not believe they were doing this to us & not taking full responsibly, apologizing and fixing it. I would have loved to have a word with them myself, but I knew you can't reason with unprofessional people like that, & of course I would have come off like the "crazy wife that doesn't understand mechanics." When we got home we looked up the part & it was going for as low as $600 in many different places, They clearly were charging us for the labor & trying to take advantage of us again. Which they probably did previously with the censors as well. I am not sure if there is one employee responsible for this that we happened to get and was maybe trying to keep the situation away from the owners/bosses or if the shop was behind this but I honestly don't know how this guy sleeps at night doing something so low to people who trusted and paid them fully for such shitty, dishonest work. I am not sure how they screwed up our car so bad, but if they were an ethical company they would have fixed it for free immediately, not lied and try to play us AND get even more money out of us. And try to prolong the situation and hope we don't call them out. It's not that a mistake was made but how they handled it. It is absolutely astonishing the level of low ethics in this situation. If you fuck up that bad, just do the right thing and fix it! You will be a better person and company for it. So that was my situation. I brought in a car that ran perfect and got back a car that couldn't even run/idle. Good luck if you go here, hopefully you are one of the lucky ones! read more

This is the best auto repair shop in visalia. I have a old 02 jeep 4.0 and the head gasket blew. I went around to shops and had them run diagnostics on it. Everyone wanted to charge me $3,900 for the head when the head gasket only cost about $200. RJ Automotive did it for $1,100. Not to mention they replaced all the hoses, flushed the radiator and much more. They were also the only place that bothered to tell me what went wrong. Apparently the thermostat went out and caused the engine to overheat, making my head gasket blow. Now that all is said and done it runs great. I had a small overheat scare when I took it out and told them the temp was climbing a little. They took it back in, and power washed out my radiator, sure enough it was all the mud from the wet season stacked inside. They didn't even charge me for bringing it back in. If you think the quality workmanship of the small town mechanic is dead think again because these guys go above and beyond with saving you money in mind first. They could have easily told me it was a fan clutch issue when I brought it back in and made a couple more bucks off me but they were dead honest. These guys won't give you the run around. A lot of shops around here will tell you something is wrong everytime you come in, but not these guys. it is awesome to see people that take pride in their work and make sure it is done right. read more

My family and I were on our way to the Sequoias when our truck started running horribly and the check engine light came on. Thankfully we hadn't gotten too far up the mountain and we were able to turn back and head into Visalia for help. We found RJ's on yelp and they had great reviews and time to take a look to see what was going on. Jr. and Louie were very helpful and friendly. They ran a diagnostic and gave us our possible issues ranging anywhere from $100-$1500!!! They started with an oil flush, system conditioning and oil change to see if that took care of it. And praise God it did. And more so they were honest and thorough. I feel safe driving back up the mountain to our original destination. If I lived in this area RJ's would be our family mechanic of choice. If you live here or are passing through and run into unfortunate car trouble RJ's is the place to go. THANKS GUYS!!! read more
