Where do I even start? After a normal drive, the check engine light came on and the 4LO light started blinking on my 2018 Toyota Sequoia. I also noticed it had lost a lot of power. The SUV has always been serviced at the Toyota dealership and never had any major issues, so that's where I took it first. After they ran their diagnostics, they came back and told me I needed a brand-new transmission for over $9,000. That just didn't seem right to me because the transmission wasn't showing any of the usual signs of failing. I started searching for Toyota specialized repair shops and found TLD Auto Service. With over 750 reviews on Google and almost all of them being 5 stars, I figured it was worth checking out. As soon as I talked to Dan, he told me the same thing I was thinking, that there was no way the transmission should have failed like that. I left the truck with him and let him figure it out. Dan kept me updated the whole time with texts, pictures, and explanations of what he was finding and what services he recommends. In the end, it turned out to be a bad transmission speed sensor, not a failed transmission. We dropped the car off on Thursday and was back on the road by Saturday. The pricing was great, and Dan took the time to explain everything and even gave me some tips to help keep the Sequoia running well for years to come. I can't thank Dan enough. He saved my family thousands of dollars and earned a customer for life. Dan, at TLD Auto, is a Toyota Tai Chi Master who has knowledge that takes many years of practice to learn, acquired when working for the Toyota industry in the Bay Area. You can tell that he seeks the highest level of excellence and quality in his work - this creative attitude helps find the ideal solution to a problem and keeps the problem from happening again. Fortunately we found TLD, when our Prius was shaking and had an active engine-check light on while driving from Kings Canyon, during an extremely hot, 2,000 mile trip (100? degrees in Visalia). Dan had a long back-log of cars to repair (month?) but started working on ours after 5pm, which was white hot, and was still giving me updates at 930pm. He gave me the play-by-play of what was being done to the car like a teacher passing on knowledge to the class. These text messages made an easily understood audit trail of the work that was done, including pictures. Take note that my daughter, who was on the road trip, thought it was a disaster when the car broke down, but was very impressed with Dan's explanation about how to fix a Prius and how to care for a Prius. She acquired new knowledge from an expert. COMMON SENSE !!! Why TLD AUTO SERVICE maintains all my vehicles. #1 DAN , the owner is the Certified Master Technician. He works on all my vehicles. Extremely important to me, to have a real certified mechanic fix my car. Not some regular wrench turning dude. Sorry dude. . COMMON SENSE. #2 PRICE , Labor is $85 compared to dealers $125-$155 . COMMON SENSE . #3 PROFESSIONAL , He knows his stuff professionally, because of his priors experiences. All my cars are done right the first time. Had my cars worked on by non certified mechanics before in the Bay Area, and always had to return it over and over again. What waste of time, and time is money. COMMON SENSE . #4 CLEAN, The shop is in pristine shape, this reflects character, and how he takes care of my vehicles like it's his. I hate it when the car is missing screws, clips or parts( lol ) or stained with grease. My RX350 F SPORT IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION. I expect to leave with it in the same manners. #5 HONESTY, DAN advises me about schedule maintenances, so my vehicles will be running smoother and safer. Dan Nguyen, the owner of TLD Auto Service is an amazing mechanic & diagnostic technician. My Lexus 330 RX now drives like a dream after being serviced by Dan. The engines sounds smooth and feels wonderful to drive. I love my Lexus and Dan is helping my car to feel brand new and drive like it is brand new, only better. I was amazed and thrilled with Dan's diagnostic ability but even more amazed when he sent me pictures of the work he was preforming, the color of my oil before and after, the interior air filter, coolant color, etc.... My daughter and family were driving to LA from SF. When they got to Coalinga, the check engine light was on and car started shaking. Looked up closet Lexus mechanic and came across TLD Auto service in Visalia. Dan was supremely accommodating and helpful. After diagnosing the problem, he began to notice other things needing attention. He then began a trek of going over the car with a fine tooth comb. I had been servicing my car religiously, including right before my daughter began her trip, a couple of days before. Turns out, the mechanic I've been using in SF had been using after market filters that didn't fit properly and never changed out the different fluids. The steering wheel, tires were out of alignment and so many more things wrong that I previously paid to be serviced. Dan is absolutely amazing. He took such great care of the car, gave me tips, it will certainly last me years now. Dan Nguyen and myself have never met personally. Just from phone calls. I have a 2004 Toyota Prius which Dan had done work on for the previous owner. I live in San Felipe Baja Norte, Mexico. It was a HOT july day in the Baja and my wife and I were returning home from a visit to downtown San Felipe. All of a sudden the cruise switches itself off as we are driving along, and , the RED Triangle lite comes on the dash. The motor cuts off and the car comes to a halt. My mistake , I press the park button. Whoops ..thats it we do not move thats it. NO electric power at all. I get Dans phone number and call him. Never talked to him before. He gives me some little things to do to try and fool the computor , NOTHING works over a 2 day spell. . I have an OBD 2 scanner and it cannot get the codes because there is no power.. I start checking fuses and I find one that is blown. I give him the info about which fuse, and where it is. Next morning there is an Email telling me to replace the 12 volt Inverter coolant pump, and replace the fuse. I get a pump from US down to San Felipe and get it installed, add the fuse , and away we go . My wife and I thank you Dan for ALL your help. what a great guy to do that . Dan is the Toyota Man. I had several problems with my Tundra and wasted time and money on some other mechanics... A friend highly recommended TLD and my only regret is that I didn't come here for all the issues. To make a long story short, not only did TLD take care of the main problem but other problems that were not fixed to my satisfaction at the other mechanics.Here, everything is explained and you get all kinds of valuable advice automatically. Dan is very attentive to detail and conscientious about doing it right. Uses only OEM. You get lots of pictures and explanations of what is being done and why. Takes the time. Dan, the shop owner, has been my mechanic since 2012, and I go to him to keep my 2005 Camry up and running. Given my car's got years of wear and tear and is approaching 200K miles, it's required some repairs (e.g. replaced the front catalytic converter & water pump) and general maintenance (e.g. oil change, fluids, new filters.) Dan's done a great job and I'm greatly satisfied with the service he's provided. On road trip down south from Bay Area to LA. I had previously used Dan when he was in Bay Area. For this trip I wanted to see why ENGINE CHECK came on during trip. Dan did a quick computer check and found one of my O2 sensors had gone out. Got a new sensor and installed in just a few hours. He always uses OEM parts and top of the line fluids. His prices are way under what Lexus dealership charges.
