I came in for a simple left-rear vibration and asked for the wheel bearings to be checked. They ignored that, misdiagnosed it as a differential issue based on normal paste (no flakes), and tried to up- sell me $5,500 in unnecessary repairs. If the vibration disappears on right turns, it's the wheel bearing - not the differential. When I questioned their diagnosis, the staff became aggressive. One mechanic got inches from my face like he wanted to fight, another threw my keys across the counter, and I was cursed at as I left. Totally unsafe, unprofessional, and hostile. Let me start by saying, I like to do the vast majority of work on my own vehicles, but this timing cover reseal job that needed to be done is not in my wheelhouse, so after doing a lot of research into Toyota / Lexus shops in the DFW area I kept coming back to TLS Auto Specialist. My 4Runner is our traveling vehicle that I have invested a lot of time and money into getting it the way i want it, so having others work on it yet alone not having it in my own garage is quite worrisome to me. I brought in the 4Runner that was needing a timing cover reseal and a water pump. If you don't know, the timing cover reseal is a very involved job that requires a lot of time and labor not to be trusted to just any yahoo. To do it correctly, in my opinion, the engine needs to be removed (which is how the job was performed). While doing their inspection they observed a few other things that needed to be tended to and offered some preventative maintenance things (timing chain replacement and drive belt) that could be taken care of since they were already going to be in there doing the timing cover reseal. We all know we have been to some shops that make you feel like they cannot believe your car even made it to the location. TLS did not do this in any way shape or form. Long story short, everything was taken care of in a timely fashion with no real surprises. Their pricing was fair (I don't mind paying a bit more for quality work). Casey did the work on the 4Runner and did a great job. Everyone at the shop was a pleasure to deal with, and they kept me up to date with everything that was going on. I would highly recommend this place if your Toyota or Lexus needs anything from a large job like mine to just routine maintenance. read more

I have used TLS on many occasions and have always been happy with the work. I can say from experience that I had also tried Christian Brothers and while I was happy with their services and felt I could trust them, Fred and his team has always been above and beyond what I would expect from anyone. Fred has always given what I would have believed to have been fair prices. I always feel that what Fred is telling me to be true as he will give you many scenarios, tell you whether it's a must repair / replace, and will even give you advice concerning other Toyota vehicles and your own. Fred has gone out of his way to drive me to and from work when I had no other options. He has also gone out of his way to not only perform repairs on my car, but to also take my car to another location to perform a State Inspection. He has worked on his off-days to repair my car. We had some very unusual issues with our Toyota 4Runner. Check Engine light and Trac off light came on at the same time. Vehicle ran just fine and we checked the codes which indicated cam timing issues. We had several of our trusted mechanics look at the vehicle and since it was running just fine and all the other codes indicated no problem they advised us to I drive it a little while and bring it back in a few days. We did this several times and still the vehicle ran great never indicated any other problems. Then suddenly one day while driving in heavy traffic on the interstate the vehicle lost power and we had to get off the roadway quickly. Had an expensive 40 mile tow back home and decided to take our vehicle to Fred at TLS. It was somewhat of a mystery and Fred kept our vehicle for several days as he checked one thing and another trying to diagnose the problem. Being the experienced and dedicated specialist that he is, he left no stone unturned in searching for the problem. Finally he discovered that the oil filter and housing were damaged from an incorrect installation at our local oil change garage. Oil flow to the engine had been restricted and impeded due to this problem. We were very lucky that there was no permanent damage as Fred dug deeper into the engine to make sure that everything was in good shape. From now on our 4Runner will be serviced regularly at TLS and nowhere else. We had never met Fred before and our vehicle had always been taken to the Toyota dealer for regular maintenance except for a few local oil changes at a nearby business that we had used for years. Fred may be a genius and he is certainly the Sherlock Holmes of Toyota specialists as far as I'm concerned. It is certainly nice to meet someone who is fair, honest and dedicated to their craft. I highly recommend TLS AUTO SPECIALIST. In June of 2011, my 19-year-old daughter was driving through Euless, Texas and the transmission on her 2002 Lexus just fried. She was barely able to get it off the highway to a pawn shop parking lot. It was late at night and everything was closed. We live in Oklahoma City and I had to make a decision where to tow it knowing no one in the area and nothing about repair shops other than what I could learn online. I saw that TLS was within 15 miles of where she broke down and the reviews online were very good - though there were only a few reviews. I had the tow truck drop the Lexus there and put the keys in the night key drop (the tow driver warned us that if there was no key drop they would have to take it to their lot and charge storage but from the TLS web sight I saw pictures of the key drop and assured them there was a drop... and there was). I left voice mail for the owner that night. The owner, Fred, called me the next morning after having checked out the car and told me what I expected, that the transmission had to be replaced. He quoted the price for a factory-rebuilt one. The price was fair despite the fact that we were in a position where we could have been taken advantage of. The repair was completed in one day. Due to us being out of town, we had to pick up the car on a weekend - when TLS was closed. Fred was extremely helpful even coming out to the shop on Sunday to meet us to deliver the car. The shop is, as others report, as clean as a Dentist's office. They warrantied their work, are very professional, courteous and fair. I wish I had a shop like this where I live. I have a Lexus IS F and have always owned Toyota/Lexus cars. Throughout the years, I've tested several local mechanics in search of that mythical "perfect" mechanic that is competent, trustworthy, and just plain good at what they do. I can finally say that my search has ended, and Fred and Casey at TLS Auto Specialist Service & Repair will now be my go-to mechanics for any of my cars. I had a CEL as well as headlights that were improperly installed by another local mechanic. Fred troubleshot my issues in the shop and verified there was nothing wrong with my factory components, then went above and beyond by researching my aftermarket exhaust system during afterhours. He concluded that I probably had a faulty aftermarket component (he was right). As for the headlight, they adjusted my headlights as best they could (definitely improved but not quite perfect due to a part defect). I completely expected to pay for their time and services, but Fred stated that since he was unable to completely fix either problem, they would not charge me anything. I was shocked. This speaks volumes about their personal integrity and the way they run their business. You can tell they are trying their best to do the right thing by their customers. Fred was also extremely friendly and spent the time to explain what he had done and what his suggestions were. I'm 34, and as I get older in life, I'm beginning to realize that finding legitimately "good" people in this world is like finding a needle in a pile of needles. I am so glad that I found this Dad & Son shop because I will now return here for routine maintenance and any other problems that may arise with my cars.
