On September 27, my dishwasher stopped draining. I called American Home Shield, as I always do when something is broken, and received a work order and the name of the service company that they selected. It was not TM Service, I was told that their computer selects the service company, and that despite my insistence that they change it to TM, it could not be done. The rep was in the Philippines, which shows how international service has become. When I called the contractor on the 28th, (they did not call me within 24 hours as they are supposed to) I was told the earliest they could come out was October 8, 10 days hence. Unacceptable!! Dishes are piling up! I called AMS, explained the situation, and told them they had to change my request to TM. They had serviced my dishwasher several months ago when the drain pump failed and I was very pleased at that time. They came out two days from the day I called them. This time I got an AHS representative in Tobago who was very accommodating. He changed the service request to TM, cancelled the previous request, and sent me the work order information. I called my friend Lana at TM (we are old friends now) and arranged for a service appointment in two days. Great service. BUT, it gets better. About 30 minutes later, she called and told me they had a cancellation and the service technician could be at my house in 2 hours. Sure enough, in two hours, Alan from TM arrived and fixed the problem in 30 minutes. The pump was jammed with debris (a piece of glass and other stuff), which was quickly removed, and the drainage system checked out. The pump was OK. TM came to the rescue AGAIN. Lesson: Rinse the dishes and make sure that if a glass breaks inside, retrieve all the pieces! read more

I have a GE Cafe slide-in electric range. One of the infinite heat control knobs mechanically broke so you could no longer use the left rear element. I ordered the GE replacement part on-line thinking I could replace it myself. Wrong! GE made it extremely complicated to access the front control panel so I used the Yelp feature to request bids from local appliance repair services. I received responses from four repair services. I chose TM Service because: 1. located in Santa Clara 2. first to respond 3. provided flat rate quote to install replacement control (price was not the lowest and not the highest quote received). I eliminated responses that said "we'll send someone out to take a look and then give you an estimate for the cost" - In this case I was specific regarding the problem and what needed to be done so there was no need to have someone come out to "take a look". 4. knowledgeable and understood exactly what was needed from my description of the problem since I included the GE model number 5. good availability - made appointment for next morning Result: TM Service technician arrived during the 2-hour appointment window; called 15 minutes prior to arrival. Technician knew what to do and replaced the control in about 45 minutes. It took that long due to GE's overly complex procedure to access the control panel - LOTS of screws in hard to reach places! So, first the positives: 1. They will respond quickly via Yelp or via e-mail. 2. They give a 3-hour time window for service, and each time I think the longest I waited was 40 minutes from the start of my window. One time they were there just 15 minutes after the window began, and they had to wait for me! 3. Convenient: They take credit cards over the phone. Now the problems... My biggest complaint is the "service" itself. My washing machine wouldn't run any hot water load for more than about five minutes. It would start like normal and do a pre-rinse using cold water, and then when it went to fill the basin with hot water, nothing would happen, and after 10-15 minutes, it would fail and give an "LF" error (for Low Flow, water not entering the basin). I could run cold water washes, no problem, however, so in general the washer was working, just not the hot water. I have worked in appliance sales for years, and I've worked with different repair companies in the area before, so I was able to run the diagnostic mode on my washing machine and find out what it was saying the error was. The machine was reporting "F2E3" -- which is a problem with one of the valves. Makes sense if the hot water isn't filling that there's a problem with the hot water intake valve someplace. They quoted me something like $300 to fix it, but they insisted that their technician evaluate the machine first. Sure, makes sense so far. $75 to have them come out and take a look, pretty standard. The technician comes out and doesn't really speak to me. He doesn't ask me what the problem is or to demonstrate how exactly the machine is failing. He proceeds to immediately dismantle the lid and test some things, he even pulls out a voltage reader and checks the contacts. After about 15-20 minutes, he tells me the control board is bad. Great. Easily one of the more expensive parts in the unit, and not at all what the machine's own diagnostics said. But he's the expert, so I let them order the part, and a week or so later they come to install it. A different technician comes out to install the control board. Everything goes smoothly, he starts a cycle and it begins its pre-rinse and water flows, so he says, "All good! Thank you!" Takes payment of $525 (yeesh!) and leaves. But I noticed that the machine was not on a hot water cycle. So I stopped it, re-ran it on hot water, and 5 minutes in, it fails again like always, displaying the same Low-Flow error. So of course it wasn't the control board... I record a video and send it to the company, they offer to send a technician out to check the washing machine, and if it really isn't working, they would put my control board back and refund me my $525. That's unfortunate, but okay. Technician comes back out, the same guy who came the first time. Again, he doesn't talk to me about the problem, he doesn't run a cycle to see what it's doing. He again proceeds straight to taking the top of the machine off and he swaps the control boards out. But as he goes to reassemble the top of the machine, something happens to the lid latch at the front of the machine, and then the lid won't lock! The dashboard on the machine starts giving off an "F5E1" error, which is a lid latch error. If the lid doesn't lock, the machine won't run AT ALL. I said that wasn't happening before, not even after their second technician replaced the control board. He sort of shrugs and essentially says, "I didn't do it." He doesn't really examine it, doesn't offer to try to fix it, just says, "your machine's not fixable," refunds my money, and leaves. Now I have a machine that doesn't function at all because the lid latch doesn't work. And since they've messed with the control board a bunch, who knows if that's now damaged, too? All because I needed the valves checked and replaced. TM Service still insists that the machine "isn't fixable," even though the control board still correctly spits out error codes, still turns on and can cycle through the different controls on the machine. They've taken three weeks of my time "fixing" this machine, won't stand by their service or fix what they themselves damaged. The refund process was its own kettle of fish, to boot. After a week, I hadn't received a refund, and TM Service would only send me screenshots of their Paypal account to show that the refund had completed on their end. I even called my bank, and they had no pending transactions that I couldn't see. TM Service wouldn't even call Paypal to check on the status of the refund; they basically left me to do all the work to get my own money back. And now that the lid latch ALSO has a problem, it seems like it's probably too expensive to repair! Between the lid latch and the valve (and maybe the control board now, who knows?), plus labor, I'm probably better off buying an entirely new machine, which will set me back $1000 for a comparable unit. No apology from them at all. Avoid this company at all costs. read more

I was assigned TMService as a contractor via American Home Shield (AHS). They were prompt in setting up time and the tech showed up at the right time. However, the tech assessed the situation and said that replacement wasn't covered in the warranty. AHS charged me $75 for this visit. The problem was, I was upfront about my refrigerator not needing any repairs but needed replacement of certain parts instead. They sent a tech knowing this and charged me $75 for merely visiting and telling me what I already knew. The tech mentioned they would get back to me with the replacement cost but they never did. Instead, I called them and even had AHS contact them but to no avail. Please do not fall for the promptness at the start as its not what drives csat. read more
