This wasn't my first luau, but it was the one that felt the most like ohana. Everything was great... the MC was the perfect blend of warm and funny, the food was delicious, as well as plentiful, and the performances were stunning. I appreciated the interactive nature of the activities before the dinner and show. Key differences in the Toa Luau from others I have attended: there was no roasted whole pig, neither on a spit nor buried in the sand. The dinner was served to you at the table rather than a buffet line (which was a welcome surprise). This luau is in a beautiful valley near Waimea Bay on the North Shore, but not on the beach/sand. But these differences didn't take away from the beauty or enjoyment of the luau in any way. I only mention them for those who may be looking for certain traditional aspects in a luau. At the Toa Luau, dinner is served under a giant open-air pavilion. There are approximately 250 guests. We bought the least expensive seats (I believe it was "silver" level) and we could see everything just fine. The luau is run by a team that has been working together for approximately 7 years- so this is a rather new business, comparatively. I believe this means they are working extra hard to grow their reputation and build their presence and it shows! The performers poured their hearts and souls into their performances, which began after dinner service and lasted about 1.5 hours. The dances represented all of Polynesia, not just Hawaii, which was both educational and exciting. We brought our kids who are in their early 20s, and usually bored by the things we find interesting, but this luau was something we could all agree on as an evening well spent! read more

This was an incredible experience! Before the Luau, we walked to the waterfall. The waterfall was beautiful and easily accessible. The Luau included a demonstration of coconut husking, food preparation, tree climbing, and a husk crown. Next we sat down for dinner. The food was so flavorful! The performers were the ones who seated us and served us and they were so attentive. The show was out of this world. It included performances from different Polynesian islands. It was truly so memorable! The only thing I feel the need to mention is the host and his jokes were dated. They felt very gender biased, non-inclusive, and sexualized women. Absolutely one of the best luau I've been to! If I could give them more stars I would! What I love about it the most was that it was very intimate in setting vs other luaus. Every seat had a great view so personally it doesn't matter which package you buy. I felt like they managed their time very well by rolling into the next event. The MC/owner was very funny and had the audience attention the whole time. I loved that the whole family was part of the routine including his young daughters. The dancers were all great! I knew I wanted to attend a luau for my first trip to Hawaii and did a lot of research before I ultimately chose to book with Toa Luau. This was such an amazing experience and would highly recommend for those interested. A huge plus is getting admission to Waimea Valley which features a botanical garden and a waterfall at the end where you can take a swim. I would recommend arriving at least 2 hours before your 5pm luau show if you plan on going into the falls. Once you make your reservation online, you will be contacted by the luau to confirm if you're seating with another party, if you need wheelchair access, and if you have infants in your party. Please answer accurately! There was a little discrepancy with our seating because the group we were suppose to sit with didn't tell the luau staff about the two infants that were going to need seats. The staff were able to look into the issue and fix it quickly and we ended up getting reseated at another table. Right after you check in, you are leied by a beautiful flower lei, I saw they ran out towards the end and they offer a different type of lei. Unfortunately it rained heavily during our time at the luau so we opted to not do the activities outside (it was still offered!) but it looked like a lot of fun. They did bring an activity inside to the tables - it was a frond braiding for a headpiece. I would agree with some other reviewers that getting a drink at the bar took the most time and felt like I was missing the beginning of the show and the cultural demonstration. while I was getting the drink. We got the cheapest package so we were seated in the back. The tables were higher so we were still able to see the stage very well. The performance itself was amazing with my favorite being the Māori haka and the Fire Knife show at the end. The host was great and engaging with the audience. The food was very good and gave a variety of chicken, pork, salad, bread, fruit. and dessert from Ted's Bakery. If you're still hungry after the first plate, you're able to get more - someone will come by and ask. WEAR BUG SPRAY if mosquitos are attracted to you like they are to me. Yes, yes - a million times YES! We felt like family the entire time we were here and loved every second of our night. When we arrived, we were greeted with leis and we ordered drinks. We gathered around the fire where CE, the emcee for the night, explained the culture and meaning behind everything for the night. He also demonstrated how their traditional meals were cooked (hint - stick around towards the end and you could even try a bite. It was delicious!). Next was dinner and I'm still thinking about it! This was the best food I have ever had. Towards the end, they came around and asked if we wanted more of anything. Such great service! I wish I had a picture of the food, but everyone started digging in immediately. Our family loved that they were so transparent through the entire night, and even led us in prayer before we ate. This was so special to us! This kindness was unmatched during the rest of our stay on the island. We felt recognized and loved! I would totally recommend getting the VIP tickets - better seats and more drinks! If we ever find ourselves on the North Shore again, this will be something we make sure to do again. Arguably one of the newest Luaus on the island of Oahu. They opened in 2017 and have matured into a must do activity on Oahu. We selected the Gold seating and were not disappointed. Most tables seat 8 individuals so are party of two was seated with others. That was not a problem for us. The employees that check you in, seat us, do the demonstrations, bring you your food and perform - are all the same individuals. You definitely get a sense of family. This is a plated meal not a buffet, if that matters to you. It did not to us. The food was plentiful and delicious. My son, who eats a lot, asked for some extra food and they did not hesitate and brought him more. This was INCREDIBLE!!! This was the favorite part of our 10 day trip. The staff was so incredibly kind and attentive. The food was great; so much better than you would expect from an event feeding over 200 people at one time. The facilities are fantastic. It is covered so you could participate even during rain. They have fun activities before the luau itself, so it's a great idea to come as soon as the doors open. We didn't use all of our drink tickets because we didn't want to interrupt the show, so use them early. The show was entertaining, informational, beautiful and honoring. The falls entrance costs could be pricey for a large family so going to the luau helps with savings. We thought this luau was awesome because of the educational component to it. Before the luau, you get to go on the grassy area to learn how to extract coconut meat, learn to luau dance, and much more. The food was excellent and so delicious. I highly recommend Toa Luau if you are looking for a luau that treats you like family! This luau makes you feel truly welcomed as their guests and you feel like you're not just a number that gets herded and sat onto a designated table. Upon entering, the staff kindly greet you, give you a beautiful natural lei and walk you to your assigned table. The dancers walk around the tables and are serving you and interact with you. They have activities as well where they show you how to make a leaf crown, cut open baby plantains, hula dance, and so much more! It's a family created luau as they explained it and that's what it truly is. The food is also amazing! We were so stuffed, they were encouraging us to get seconds and even thirds, but we couldn't even eat anymore because it was so much food. I also wanted to sit at a table with all adults and they were able to accommodate my request! We chose this luau based on reviews and proximity to our resort at turtle bay. We went last night not expecting too much but it was amazing! The food was actually really good we particularly enjoyed the pork and chicken and the coconut cake from a local bakery. The drinks were strong we didn't even use all of our drink tickets. The host Eddie was very funny and entertaining and the dancers were fantastic! The fire dancers were incredible. I've been to a few other luaus in other trips to hawaii and this was by far the best one with the best food. The valley scenery is also very pretty! Only other luau I've been to was at the Polynesian cultural center, though I can't draw too many comparisons because it was so long ago. Heard about this place from a bunch of people on reddit. Decided to try it after hearing it was family owned. Absolutely enjoyed myself, and so did my boyfriend. We truly felt like family there, and everyone's hospitality was 5/5. The luau takes place right outside the entrance to Waimea Valley, but your ticket gives you access, so you're more than welcome to spend your time there before your luau. I loved the activities that took place before the ceremony. You get to learn things like how to open coconuts, bananas, etc. It was rainy for a little bit while we were there, but a good half of us still stuck around outside to see all the lawn activities. Throughout the whole luau, they teach you so much about Polynesian culture. The food was also delicious and super filling. They also offer extra if you want, and they give you a slice of cake from Ted's Bakery. We sat in the back, however, I don't think there's any bad seat. Overall, I do think you get your money's worth. You can see how hard everyone works to make sure you have a good experience. We got disconnected and HE called ME back. He was able to get us VIP tickets and put us at a front row table. I was so impressed with their customer service. The show was fantastic. Not much else I could add to what everyone's already said. But we went to one of the typical, larger operations on the Leeward side YEARS ago. It was fine and fun and what you'd expect, but it did feel like kind of a 'machine.' Twenty years later, it's nice to see that, much like coffee, smaller purveyors are getting in the game and Toa Luau is a family affair that feels intimate, but still puts on an entertaining, professional (but not 'slick') show that educates as well as entertains. I would say that the highlight is the cooking!! I used to live in Honolulu and have had more than my fair share of luau food, and this is legit and WAY better than what we had at the previous "big name' luau show. The kalua pork was the best I've had in a LOOOOONNGGG time. It was my first time hearing about Koko Samoa and I loved that they introduced it to us. I would've liked more of an explanation of the tradition from the MC--but I got enough info from my hostess serving it when I asked her questions (and Google). And omigosh, the coconut cake was the lightest fluffiest I've ever had and I wasn't surprised to hear it was from Ted's Bakery. Although...chocolate haupia pie would've been welcome as well. :D Things have changed because of the pandemic (e.g. no more buffet, although they will give you unlimited individual servings; they can't serve the pig from the imu--but they still demonstrate it), but I'm glad they've survived. If anything, my wife and I were welcomed and celebrated our anniversary and overdue honeymoon with everyone. I was pleasantly surprised with the plated dinner by the Toa family. The kalua pig was moist and flavorful; lomi-lomi salmon was juicy and not oversalted; huli huli chicken was moist, well marinated and grilled just right; rice and macaroni salad were on point. I visit the island every year and this is my 5th luau. If you are searching for a luau that is more intimate and want an added perk of a quick hike at the Waimea Valley with a waterfall at the end, look no further. The hike/waterfall is in the same location as the luau. We started the day off by visiting Waimea Valley after lunch. Our entrance was covered by the luau ticket. Show your confirmation to get in and purchase a shuttle pass if necessary. We did without the shuttle and enjoyed checking out all the plants and taking pictures on our walk to the waterfall. A snack bar and restrooms are located right before the end of the hike where the waterfall is located. when you get to the waterfall, life vests are offered for anyone looking to get in the water. We hung out by the pavilion and saw some beautiful peacocks roaming around the dining tables while we waited for the luau to start. They get pretty close, so have your cameras ready! The size of the luau and venue are smaller compared to some of the others on the island, but the cast is a lot more personable and family like. It was also nice to be able to try all the activities without waiting in long lines. Cousin Eddie was our host and he was very entertaining and hilarious. We loved every part of the show presented by the whole cast. Mahalo for a wonderful time! The best seats are by the stage and closest to the lawn. The fire show takes place on the lawn and it's quite a sight to see at night. There is plenty of parking.
