Went right when they opened at 2 PM and were seated immediately. The weekend prime rib completely blew me away.. it was the most tender and best prime rib I've ever had. It honestly puts restaurants that specialize in prime rib to shame. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. The seafood pasta was also excellent. You could actually taste the seafood in the sauce instead of it just being tomato sauce. The interior is a little dated and the seats aren't the most comfortable, but the food more than makes up for it. Excellent service, super casual ambiance, and good food. Our server Phalakone was so very nice, fast with the orders and the food. She's the epitome of a great human being. We ordered the Tuna poke bowl and the Thai wings. Both of which we're good, filling, and a lovely late afternoon snack. I came to Oahu two years ago for work and we happened to stop here for lunch. We planned a trip this weekend for my husbands birthday and I told him we could do whatever he wanted but we must stop at Uncle Bo's for their Kalua Pork Sliders and local beer. Amazing!! First off, this was my first trip to Hawaii! We were shopping in the area and saw Uncle Bo's in Haleiwa. We were just in time for their happy hour menu and it was all that and then some! Bottom line: Haleiwa offers tons of good fresh food, most of the food trucks are better than here. I do not recommend especially if you are here visiting/on vacation. Spinach dip: dry and lacked flavor. Nachos: very weird. The Kalua pig is sautéed in a tomato sauce and the sauce pools on the bottom of the dish (making chips soggy). They also throw in chunks of ham? And load it with mozzarella cheese...overall the sauce was SWEET and the flavors just did not go well together. However, the gravy was thin (demi-glacé) and the rice had hard bits (probably not enough water during the cooking process). Also, the utensils weren't very clean. Gluten sensitive mom+ kiddo and wanted to share the menu. Within 20 min of consuming gluten I get a migraine behind my eye and no migraines from Uncle Bo's in Haleiwa. I ordered the kalua pig fried rice. It wasn't as spectacular as the reviews, assuming the gluten version is much tastier. But it was enough to tie me over until dinner. I ordered online and it was very simple. There's an option for GF and I also added it to the notes just to make sure. Easy peasy. We got there 25min before HH ended so were offered the HH menu. Good choices of wine and appetizers on the HH but it's the same price on their normal menu. I've alway enjoyed the food at Uncle Bo's on Kapahulu. I wasn't impressed with the food at the Haleiwa location. The hostess was very pleasant and accommodating when I had to call to let them know we would be late due to North Shore traffic. We go there a little after they opened and the restaurant was mostly empty. There were a few diners out on the patio. My kid was craving a loco moco. This is what lead us to Uncle Bo's. The two items we ordered were marked with a which are "favorites" The hamburger patty was not flavorful (neither was the gravy). The patty was mostly fillers rather than beef. We also ordered the nachos which normally is served with won ton chips. I asked if we could get it with tortilla chips. Which they said they could but didn't recommend it. I appreciated that they shared their recommendation and still were able to honor our request. The nachos were bountiful . It's not the typical nachos flavor. We asked to be seated outside because the volume of the announcer was too high inside. Service was REALLY REALLY SLOW. The service was alright when we got greeted by the lady. We were seated right away and our server got our drink orders right away. I passed on it this time, but my party did order some. Spinach Artichoke Dip: This was a really delicious dip. The wonton chips were something different, but they worked well with the dip. The cheese on top of the dip was crispy and added so much flavor and texture to this starter. Hands down recommend this. Hawaiian Benedict with Country Potatoes: Now this is one heck of a Benedict. I always judge the Hollandaise sauce and man this had some tang to it. It is not like any other I had, and the coloring was perfect for the sauce. The cabbage was ok, but the spinach and poached eggs were great. The bacon was thick and crispy, perfect for me. And the taro English muffin was so good. It was crispy and crunchy and def a Hawaiian twist on it. The potatoes as my side were also good, though could be crispier. A def dish I recommend. I really hope this day was just an off day, but I'm disappointed that Uncle Bo's didn't deliver great, flavorful food like I've known it for. The service was good, our waitress had a great personality and was knowledgeable about the menu. She would check in with us regularly since it was a slow night and had time to chat. Although, overall I know staffing is struggling everywhere, but is it too much to expect a greeting or a smile or someone to work the FOH? When we walked in we saw a bartender who didn't even greet us and we were just waiting for someone to check us in for our reservation. Another server also passed by and didn't really say much as they did their table check-ups. The food is the biggest reason why I'm giving 3/5 stars. The amount of food you get for the cost just doesn't seem worth it. I get it, this is a business in NS, I grew up here so costs go up, especially in a tourist town. But I at least hoped something would justify spending $20 for six little piggies; were they good? Sure, but $20? Nevermind, I should've saved my money. But please, take it from me, don't order any of the pastas. My friend and I tried the alfredo and pesto and they were a little bland and did not seem worth the $30 price tag. We have been here twice while traveling to Oahu in the North Shore area. Our food was amazing! We loved sitting on the front porch and people watching as the streets started to fill in Haleiwa. My mom and I split a fettuccine alfredo and it was kind of bland - they didn't grill the chicken, which would have made all the difference in the world to me. My only complaint would be that the bathroom is out in a dark alley several blocks from the restaurant, and the door doesn't really work either, which is a bit odd. The fish sandwich was absolutely delicious and amazing!!! I asked for the slaw that is normally on the sandwich to be on the side, that was amazing as well. Definitely recommend the fish sandwich. The Haleiwa Twins are burger sliders served on Taro rolls. It was delicious. I truly love the fries, these fries aren't your typical wedge style French fries.
