I've been to one prior luau before but this one blows it away. The people were fantastic, welcoming and very accommodating. We learned a lot throughout the evening about the culture, dances and chants of the different nations of Polynesia. The performances were all top notch and they topped it off with a stellar mesmerizing fire dance at the end. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Our two young boys (4 yo and 8 yo) were able to get through the entire show though they were a bit tired at the end.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The MC was funny, adding bits of humor and local knowledge along the way. Onward to the food. The food isn't served buffet style, but they are always asking if you wanted more and would bring you extra if you wanted. The Kalua pork was fantastic, full of flavor. My wife found it a little salty but it was my favorite of the trip thus far. The chicken was also fantastic, roasted with a sweet soy glaze. My wife and I were both surprised at how good the salad dressing was, a nice vinaigrette with crunchy walnuts. The cake was also soft and delicious, per my wife, but I didn't get a chance to try since I was already quite full by the time. The fruit was fantastic, ripe and bounding with flavor. We came early and walked up the falls before the luau started. The entrance to the Waimea Valley is free with the luau but you have to pay for parking. This is a must have experience that I will be recommending to all friends and family. Before our meal and the performance, the performers had an activity section where they taught us some cultural dance moves and how to play some instruments. We took a lot of good pictures during this time! After the activity, they prepared a very entertaining food demo. Brought my wife & son along with our 3 siblings from both sides of the family and they absolutely loved it as well with it being their first ever luau. Service was fantastic. Went with my cousins and some have been to luau in the past and said this is one of the best they been to. We did the dinner reservations and it was very entertaining and our host was pleasant and hilarious. He would give us the history of Hawaii and cracked jokes which is great. One of the highlights of our trip! What a beautiful way to see Hawaiian culture. We walked around Waimea Falls before the luau started (sadly no water at the waterfall, but the workers did tell us ahead of time). When we checked in for the luau we got told we got upgraded to VIP which absolutely a cherry on top to an already perfect luau! There were multiple activities to do before the show started which was all so fun! Got to play with poi balls and learn how to hula. All the staff were amazing!! The host really made the show too! All the dancing and music was beautiful to watch and really made me appreciate the culture so much. The food was pretty good compared to other places. The drinks were also yummy! They are a family run luau, and everyone comes together to put on the best performance. I don't remember who the MC was but his hosting was amazing, lively, and hilarious. The luau involves a series of activities before the discussion of how the food is made, which I sadly missed out on and didn't get to experience. You are served food and then get to watch the Hula dances, cultural traditions, and fire show. We were given drink tickets, which was one drink from the list of cocktails offered on the menu, but to add on a piña colada for example, was $5 extra. I got the Lilikoi Sour, I believe. I liked my drink, and thought it was perfect to sip on. Now the food? Incredible portions. A generous plate includes pulled pork, chicken, mac salad, greens, a hawaiian roll, and a scoop of white rice. On the side was a few fruit, coconut jello, and a slice of coconut cake. Everything was so authentic and that pulled pork was delicious! The dances were full of energy and the fire show was my favorite, especially their youngest one doing the fire show I was amazed at everyone's skill. 10/10, would absolutely go again! I went to a 5pm slot on Feb. 19. It was worth the hour long drive from Waikiki, where my friend and I were staying. Everyone there was so nice and friendly! We had Gold tickets and had a good view of the stage. The event started with hands-on activities, like braiding your own head crown, getting a beautiful flower lei, trying out a Hawaiian game where you pass sticks to a partner (I believe it's called tititorea), and husking a coconut (which they later crack open for you to drink). They put on a food demo using traditional Hawaiian cooking methods. The food was good: we had kalua pig, chicken with sauce, rice with furikake (?), mac salad, green salad, cut fruit, haupia (coconut pudding), and a slice of coconut cake from Ted's Bakery (a famous bakery nearby). I don't eat pork and wish I had been able to request for it not to be on my plate, but I just gave it to my friend. The staff walked around making conversation and refilling drinks. It very much felt like attending a family party with amazing, hospitable hosts. You can request for more food if you want and don't have to get up to do so. We also had drink tickets and the nonalcoholic one we tried was very sweet but good. The show was amazing! I loved how they featured dances from different Polynesian cultures. My favorite were the fire performances. The emcee was hilarious all throughout the night! He had us laughing from the cooking demonstration until the very end of the show. I would suggest taking your pictures before it gets too dark. They have a nice yard with mountains in the background that was nice for pictures. I was hoping to get sunset pictures but the dinner/show was going on during then. I would also suggest bringing a teeny tiny bag as you'll want to have your hands free to do the activities! My only very minor complaint is that the show was really loud at times. We were near the stage and speakers, so that might be why. I wish I had brought ear plugs to protect my hearing. But I loved this luau and love how it's owned and operated by locals!!! Oh, also-you get free access to Waimea Falls with your luau purchase, and the entrance /parking to the luau is in the same place. The walk to the falls is paved and very easy. My friend and I did the walk first (about 2 hours before the start of the luau), changed into our luau clothes, then checked in for the luau. Worth the drive to the beautiful north shore. Great family focused interactive experience. It really is a three for one trip from Waikiki. You can stop in at the Dole pineapple plantation, hike to a waterfall thru the botanical garden and then the best luau experience with the friendliest staff. It's not just a luau show where you sit and watch while eating. The experience starts with interaction with the staff and performers where you can open bananas using traditional methods, peeling taro and sweet potatoes, breaking and shredding coconuts, making vine lei's, learning Hawaiian gamers, etc. All the dances and performances told a story of the islands. The MC was very interactive and funny. The food was delicious. The Kahlua pork was flavorful and was the best when you added the fresh pineapple on the fruit plate. The teriyaki chicken thigh was good but when eaten with the Mac salad it was a great bite. The two coconut desserts were great.. One vanilla cake with coconut cream frosting and a coconut flan. The ticket allows you access to Waimea Valley so definitely take advantage of that!! go early and explore the valley- this is my one regret as we didn't take the time to do that. we booked the 5pm luau, got there around 5:15pm and found that the front gate was "closed"- we were very confused as there were no signage about the luau and thought we were in the wrong place. we ended up going past the closed sign & parked in the parking lot, walked up to the visitor center, and started seeing groups of people dressed up for a luau so we figured we ended up in the right place. we checked in and were greeted between a very friendly staff, who welcomed us with Lei's and walked us to our table. the bar had specialty cocktails & you could also ask for well drinks. since we were a little late, we missed the pre show activities. we made it right in time for the start of the show (I won't give anything away!!). We really enjoyed the hospitality of the group, our MC had the best jokes and energy, and kept the good vibes going the whole night. we loved how informative and entertaining the luau was, we learned a lot about polynesian culture and really felt the alpha spirit!!! there are a ton of luau options in Hawaii and i'm very happy that we chose this one. read more

Came across a lot of great reviews on Toa Luau when I looked for luaus in Oahu. I have nothing to compare it with since this was my first luau but it was a really great experience. I originally picked the 12:30PM one but that got cancelled. I rescheduled to the 5PM show. About an hour from Waikiki, it's located in Waimea where the valley garden and falls are. We did not hike anymore since we've been here a few days before. There are three packages to choose from: silver, gold and VIP. The differences are on the seating area and the amount of drink tickets included (they have both alcoholic and nonalcoholic options). Got the gold one which was close but not too close to the front. When you check in, you are given a flower lei and they escort you to your seat. Shortly after, the cultural activities begin. These were fun as they were interactive. You get to participate in coconut weaving, opening a coconut, trying poi, and many others. Kava ceremony follows. After this, you'll head back to the dining area where dinner will be served. Food was very good. A Polynesian show follows. The host of the show was so funny and lively. A lot of dancing and great performances including a fire knife show from this year's winner. Energy was high and very much palpable. Everyone in the audience enjoyed. There's a photo opportunity with the performers at the end. Great experience, definitely worth the money. This was my very first Luau and Toa Luau was amazing! We celebrated our 3 years and had the best time. The experience lasted about 3 hours with doing some activities out in the lawn before they started the show. They also served the food to our tables and they checked in on us to ask if there's anything we wanted more of. We got the silver package and I believe it was more than enough. It came with one drink and the seating we got was towards the back but it's high chairs so we had a pretty great view. I believe anywhere you seat in the Luau has a good view of the stage. I can't recommend this place enough! We were also able to visit Waimea Falls because it came with the ticket or it normally would be $25 admission fee. We went on a different day for that so we could swim and took the time to explore the Valley. read more

If you're visiting Oahu, Toa Luau in Waimea Valley is the only luau you should even consider. The whole experience feels personal in a way I wasn't expecting. The food was great, especially the pork and chicken, and they make sure you never leave hungry. They even noticed when one of us was low on food and offered to bring more without us asking. I loved the activities before the luau. We got to prepare traditional Hawaiian food as a family, and it was actually meaningful instead of feeling like a quick tourist thing. There were fun games like the stick toss and spinning coconuts, and even a group hula lesson that everyone got into. The entire presentation of different Polynesian cultures was incredible. The hosts are warm, funny, and genuinely make you feel like part of their family for the night. The fire spinners at the end were amazing and worth the price on their own. My wife has been to other luaus on past trips, and Toa Luau is on a completely different level.
