Everything about this luau was enriching and kept my attention. The luau family was so kind and welcoming. The views on the drive in was fantastic. The food was amazing!!! I'm vegetarian and the veggie option was delicious. They also come around after they serve you to ask if you want seconds or thirds. You will not leave this place hungry. I got the gold package deal, which provided me seating that had pretty great view of the stage and my little one was able to watch the stage also. Each ticket provided 2 drinks, either alcoholic or non alcoholic. Of course you can purchase more tickets if needed. The cast was amazing. They were all friendly, attentive, and funny. At the beginning of the luau they had stations of different activities that every guest can take part of, such as husking a coconut, making coconut milk, helping prepare for meals with unripe bananas, making headbands and etc. Then you gather around the fire and get told a story and watch how the food gets cooked, however you do not get to try the food due to the cooking not being up to health standards (shucks), but it was still great to watch and learn. After the activities, they serve us the luau food. There was salad, chicken, kalua pork, bread, Mac salad, rice, fruits, haupia, and cake. The little one got her own plate of chicken and rice, which she loved. All the food was amazing. They offered seconds if you wanted. After the dinner they provided a great show, which included different styles of dancing throughout the different islands and included the crowd to join. Overall, it was a fun and great learning experience. Would definitely recommend. Tip: Go early to hike the Waimea Valley and explore the nature. Toa Luau is an amazing luau in the Waimea Valley in Oahu. It's located close to north shore and is about 45 minutes to an hour from Waikiki. When you are here, they make you feel as if you're the guest of the Toa Luau Family. They have exceptional food, the entertainment is top notch, and the people were incredibly nice. From the moment we got there, we were immersed in the experience. My wife and family had a blast as we ate, learned about polynesian culture, and we enjoyed the experience. Another gem is that your meal/admission also includes the admission into the Waimea Valley Botanical Gardens. If you opt to come here early, then you can take the easy 0.75-mile walk/hike to the waterfall and swim. They provided lockers and life jackets. IMO - this is worthwhile and it's another reason to leave the Waikiki area for this Luau that's located closer to North Shore. If you do swim here, then I'd recommend bringing water shoes. I'm writing this review because coming here was one of the highlights of my trip to Oahu. People ask me where I like to go, and this is one of my top recommendations. If you're still debating which luau to go to, debate no more! Toa Luau was so much fun! Where do I start?! Included with Toa Luau is admission to the Waimea Botanical Gardens and waterfall. The water is a 3/4 mile walk each way on a paved path. Keep in mind, it's a little hilly. They have changing rooms near the waterfall that you can use to change into your luau outfit. The luau itself was so much fun. The first couple hours was filled with the various cultural activities like learning how to hula. The actual luau included dances from various islands. Each dance was beautiful in its own way. My family and I got good seats but all seats in the house have a great view. The employees are so kind and welcoming. You leave feeling like family! The service was great, all the staff was so kind. And finally, the show and activities including the waterfall were all incredible. I'm so glad we picked this luau for our first luau ever. As soon as I turned into the driveway at Tua Luau, I knew I was gonna love it. Such a beautiful and well maintained area. I walked in and saw a beautiful peacock which I was not expecting. The hands on activities were a lot of fun and it was exciting to learn the traditional way of cooking. Next was the food which was soooo yummy and then the dancing. My sister heard great reviews about Toa Luau and we also loved that the cost included entry into Waimea Valley's gorgeous gardens and falls. After we took a swim in the falls, we headed back to the Toa Luau, where we were greeted with lei's and open arms. Hopefully you never have the displeasure of speaking or interacting with the manager Simon. He's very unprofessional and rude. I booked this after an amazing experience at the Polynesian cultural center and wanted to try another Luau. I booked this and after seeing the photos of the food and noticed it was not buffet style but served in individual trays where all the meats were touching I decided against going since my husband and I don't eat pork. It started when Simon had called me saying there was a last minute cancellation and we were the only ones on the wait list. He booked it so quickly for us we didn't have time to ask any questions and he didn't bother to ask about any dietary restrictions. We called a few hours later after we got some cell reception and he ignored our calls. We left several voicemails and never got a returned call. I called early the morning of the scheduled luau and was told by the receptionist Simon would call back. He was ignoring my calls and avoiding calling me back. So I had my husband call from his phone and Simon finally answered. He argued with my husband that no accommodations could be made and no refunds would be issued and that we never told him about our restrictions. We tried to explain to him that he never asked us and we were under the impression it was buffet style. He didn't want to hear any of it and denied any accountability. We were forced to go and the location is beautiful and we tried to have a good time but there wasn't a single indigenous Hawaiian we saw that was part of the educational staff. I would forever recommend this place for anyone coming to oahu wanting to attend a luau event. I've been here twice now and would love to make it three times in the future. I enjoyed the all you can eat food because of its amazing flavor and balanced plate (they serve the same plates for lunch and dinner so you won't miss out on anything if you go to the earlier time slot). Everyone is very welcoming and treats you with respect and kindness. No bad energy here. I'm unsure of the name of the hosts i've had but they were very friendly and kept the audience well entertained with jokes and great stories of their culture. Dont worry about being in the sun during the show because all of the tables are in the shade. Your luau ticket does include admission to the waimea falls so keep that in mind and plan to get there earlier or stay later after lunch so you can check it out and swim. Of all the Luau's in Oahu we decided on Toa Luau based on reviews AND the fact they had a daytime show that made it friendly for the 2 month and 2-year-old in our group of 8. I was immediately impressed when I purchased the tickets and received an email asking to confirm attendee's and other specifics. When I mentioned I purchased a 'youth' seat so the 2yo would have a seat they immediately said not to worry, they would have their own seat and promptly refunded the ticket price. I knew right then in there I'd made a good choice. The entire staff was so friendly, and I'll say it was noticeably kid/family friendly in everything they did. Our 2-year old was getting a bit whiney during the pre-performance activities (not to be missed!) from being hungry and a little bored and one of the staff members brough here some food and she quieted right down. During the performance there are some LOUD exultations, and she let out a scream that everyone could hear, and the performers noticeably toned them down slightly, but noticeably. WOW! Lunch was excellent, appreciated the table service, avoiding the chaos we've experienced with buffet service with other Luaus. Food taste/quality was great, and while we wanted the newbies in our group to try poi, those of us who know it, were appreciated it wasn't on the menu. HA! The show was well done, well-choreographed, and really informative of the Polynesian history and heritage. Really informative. Everything about this luau was wonderful. I've been to a couple of the larger ones on the island and although this is a smaller more intimate luau it was nothing short of amazing. It's right in Waimea, as you enter you have a little gift shop and can enter the short and scenic hike to the waterfalls. Or return to their food cafe with great burgers and drinks. As we entered the luau we were able to get our drink vouchers right away and shown to our seats. There's a big area where they did story telling and some activities and the stage area where we got a free upgrade and sat right up front. We wanted to experience a traditional luau experience, so my SO researched some places and found this one to be the most authentic. This place is located in the gorgeous Waimea Valley. Our luau tickets included entry to the cultural center, botanical gardens, and waterfall, which I highly recommend! Started off with some cultural activities, including opening coconuts, shaving coconut meat, shaving taro, weaving leaves for crowns, and ball spinning (epic fail on my part). After activities, the MC explained some of the cultural points of Polynesians and how they go about cooking the food traditionally. After the activities, we were seated at our tables (great seats! We got the gold package, which also includes two complimentary drinks) and enjoyed our luau feast of kalua pork, mac salad, rice, salad, coconut jello, coconut cake, huli chicken, and fruit. Then it was showtime! The show was very engaging and interactive. Great performances. Some of the best fire dancing per my sister who lives in the island and has attended other luaus. Not LGBTQ+ Friendly and Disappointing Experience My wife and I attended this luau and left feeling humiliated and excluded. When the host asked married couples to stand and share how long they'd been together, we had to bring attention to ourselves several times before finally being acknowledged. Later, when gifts were handed out to the couples, we were skipped multiple times and only received ours after stopping the staff directly. To make matters worse, a later part of the show instructed only "husbands" to participate in an activity -- forcing my wife to take on that role just to be included, since same-sex couples weren't recognized at all. By that point, we felt so uncomfortable that we left early. This event is not LGBTQ+ friendly, and after looking through other reviews, I noticed several people mentioning similar issues -- including other reports of discrimination and even ableist behavior toward guests with disabilities. We paid the same as everyone else but were treated differently. I've reached out to the organizers directly for a refund and never received a response. Inclusivity and respect should be a basic standard, especially for an event welcoming travelers from all over the world. read more
