    Kalua pork sliders
    Sydni K.

We saw the line for this place, and it was out the door on New Years Day! We grabbed a coffee from another shop and placed an online order for takeout because we were not about to wait in that line. Our order only took about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad considering how long the line was. We got the local bombed and kalua pig sliders. I've been to another Kono's location and have always been a fan of their food. Everything is so flavorful. The local bomber hit the spot - portugese sausage is my favorite meat, so I knew this one was going to be good. The Kalua pork was moist and the perfect amount of salty. I would definitely recommend trying Kono's!

During our visit to the North Shore, we tried Kono's for the first time, and I was not disappointed. The food options here are plentiful. They have a great variety of bowls, plates, and breakfast items, and everything looked super fresh and tasty. I ordered the Hawaiian Bowl ($14.99), and it was delicious! The pork was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. It paired so well with the white rice and cabbage. My all-time favorite part of the meal was the BBQ sauce they put on the side. I drowned my food in it, and it made the food even more tasty. My husband also enjoyed his food; he ordered the Pork Plate Lunch ($15.50). Service was good, too! The staff was friendly and welcoming, though they did seem a little annoyed because it took our party of 4 a little bit to figure out what we were all going to order since we had never been there before. Thankfully, the place was slow when we got there, so we weren't in anyone's way when we were standing in front of the counter looking at the menu for a while. Once we ordered, we sat down and got our food quickly. One of the coolest things about this place is their tattoo wall! If someone gets their flying pig logo tattooed, they get 25% off for life. It's such a fun and unique idea, which really adds to the personality of the place. I personally would never do that, but I love seeing the pictures of others haha. Definitely a spot I'd recommend to anyone who likes pork.

During my visit I came here twice for the kalua pork! First time I got the chuns then the sandwich. Both were amazing. Service is nothing particularly impressive, but not rude either. It's a little place with 3 tables inside and outside.

This place has the best + fast customer service most importantly the food is outstanding! A variety of pork wraps/burritos & breakfast plates with smoothies available. Got the Chuns Bomber/Lava & Sunset Smoothies. Thank you for the excellent experience and flavor. Make sure you tip!

Classic breakfast burrito spot It's either super crowded or empty. Roll the dice Schedule accordingly: Service is slow, even for Hawaiian standards. 45 minutes to get a burrito. Thank God for coffee refills. Get the burritos. That's what my partner did. I got the BEACH sand which and it was mediocre. The French roll should have been toasted but because it was not , the sando was wanting Very local feel with a bunch of tourists added in

Kono's was one of the best sandwich shops I've had, and the Triple Crown did not disappoint. The signature kalua pork was flavorful and tender. The sandwich itself was smoky, savory, and every bite was packed with flavor. This sandwich was a decent size and I was full after half. I was really amazed by the kalua pork, and would recommend if you are visiting the North Shore. Definitely a comforting, quick, and easy meal to grab and enjoy on the beach.

My overall experience at Kono's was pretty solid! The staff were extremely friendly and helped with suggestions! The food was also delicious. The only complaint I have was there's little to no where to eat. They had a few seats around, but there were homeless people sitting at all the tables. So I had to find somewhere around the area to eat instead.

    Nachos big enough to share!

The pulled pork is excellent!!! The sandwich was incredible! We also shared the nachos. The serving was huge and plenty to share. Very chill inside, order at the counter then pick up when your number is called. Service was great and friendly. the girl at the counter was very helpful when ordering! Great island vibe & great food!!!

Righteous Kalua Pork in SSOOOOO many ways and all are great. I got the Hawaiian Bowl and the cabbage was savory and well cooked

When planning my trip to north shore, I found this restaurant as a highly rated spot. I don't typically eat pork but this place looked so promising that i decided to give in. Once we got there, we realized they only have outdoor seating so luckily it wasn't a rainy day. On the inside, they had a quirky sign and other humorous things posted. The staff were friendly and were doing the best they could with all the orders. I got the pulled pork sliders and my partner got the pulled pork nachos (which honestly feeds 2 people) so we were both stuffed by the end of it. Overall, I'd recommend this place to any pork lovers because it won't disappoint!

There is an upstairs seating area that must provide some exceptional views, but it was closed during our visit. Our lunch was easily 5-star. We began with the Spicy Ahi Wontons. Fresh ahi with shallots, scallions, tobiko (Japanese caviar), and cabbage. This App was extremely complex with a hint of spice. Truly wonderful! For our mains we ordered the grilled mahi mahi and fish and chips. My mahi mahi was grilled to a moist perfection, and the brown butter sauce could have overwhelmed the fish, so I went light on the sauce. Their fish n' chips are not your traditional Irish bar offering. The fish was gently battered with panko and fried just right. Their homemade tarter sauce was absolutely delicious. They have a very interesting craft cocktail menu. My Ku'Ula-Kai Mai Tai was on point and perfectly balanced - sweet and sour. Plus 1's Aloalo Fizz reminded her of a Paloma, only made with vodka with a tropical twist. Service was attentive and knowledgeable regarding the menu and ingredients. We really appreciated the chill environment, beautiful view, and the welcoming ocean breeze. Pro tip: After dinner, head downtown to walk off your lunch/dinner and check out all the shops. Dessert? If you enjoy waiting in a long line, then the famous shaved ice shop is located there (IYKYK).

I was hoping they'd have it that day, and luckily when I walked in, hamachi was listed as a special. I was really excited to try it. The employee who took my order didn't seem very enthusiastic, but that didn't bother me too much since I figured good food matters more. However, when it came time to pay, I noticed the bowl clearly had shoyu ahi instead of hamachi. I politely mentioned that I had ordered the hamachi, and she responded that I had said ahi. I told her it was okay and that I'd keep it, since I didn't want a small business to have to remake a dish over a simple misunderstanding. She asked if I wanted it to remade and I said no it's fine. What disappointed me was that even after I said it was fine and wasn't asking for it to be remade, she continued insisting that I had ordered ahi multiple times. I knew what I ordered because I specifically came in hoping to try the hamachi after seeing it online. I stayed polite throughout the interaction and wasn't rude about it at all, but the attitude during the exchange really turned me off from the experience. It's unfortunate because the food itself was actually pretty decent.

The portion was huge and easily shareable. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts, which were sweet, crispy, and paired perfectly with this super umami, flavorful mayo-based dipping sauce. For dessert... wow. If you love anything with an Oreo crust and coffee ice cream, you need to try it. I'm still thinking about it. We got there really early before the opened and we were second in line. We shared a plate of their scampi with a side of their hot sauce. I learned this from the last time because as you peel the shrimp, dipping it into their hot sauce is the move. Going the other way around was way messier. People say their rice is mushy, but that wasn't the case today. Honestly, if I could, I'd skip the rice and go all mac salad. The mac salad was pretty tasty and perfect to break up all the garlic. While I've been here multiple times, I do find it to be good. Would I wait in a long line for it though, probably not. It's a spot I'd classify as a tourist trap, but at least the food backs it up. I think in comparison to what I get in California, it's a few steps above what we get on the mainland. I think if you are planning on getting here, do it early to avoid the rushes.

Once spots started opening up, we paid the $2 parking fee and joined the lines. Heads up, the long line on the right is usually for pickup, while the shorter line on the left is for ordering. We went with the famous Shrimp Scampi along with a side of mac salad. Shrimp Scampi (4/5): Easily lived up to the hype. The shrimp were juicy and easy to peel, and each bite was loaded with buttery lemon flavor and tons of crispy garlic. The rice soaked up the sauce really well, though there was honestly so much butter and oil leftover afterward that it pooled at the bottom of the plate. Still incredibly flavorful overall. Mac Salad (4/5): Creamy without feeling too heavy and generously portioned. A solid side that balanced out the richness of the shrimp. Bathrooms are located upstairs near the gift shop, and there's also a washing sink near the exit, which definitely comes in handy after peeling shrimp. Overall, a fun and iconic North Shore stop that absolutely feels worth trying at least once. Glad we checked it out to see if it lived up to the hype.

They make them in a unique way, pressing the dough on a waffle iron so the outside comes out crispy and crunchy while the inside stays chewy. The four-pack is the way to go--plenty for one person and shareable for two, but I wouldn't try splitting it beyond that because you'll definitely want more than one for yourself. I've also tried the coxinha and the ham and cheese pastel, which were good, though not as much of a standout as the pao de queijo. Everything is served very fresh, so fresh in fact that I burned my mouth on the pastel because of the steam pocket inside, so it's worth letting things cool a little before biting in. Seating is all outdoors at picnic tables with umbrellas, and while there's usually space available, you might need to share a table if it's busy. There's no cooling, so it can get hot during the day even with the shade. Parking is on the street out front. I've never had trouble finding a spot, but pulling in and out can be tricky if there's traffic going by. Overall I'd give Crispy Grindz 4 stars. The pao de queijo alone makes it worth stopping for, while the other items I tried were good but not the best I've had. I haven't tried the bowls or other menu items, so I can't comment on those, but if you're in the area the pao de queijo is something I definitely recommend.

The process is simple: line up and pay, watch them make your shave ice, then take it outside to enjoy. They have a separate shop with a lot of items throughout. No seating inside, but spaces outside to sit or stand and enjoy your shave ice. Service is also quick and small interactions. For actual shave ice, I've tried so many combinations. My favorite has always been the Tropical. The great part is you can either choose a combination or pick up to three flavors and add whatever toppings you want.
