My dad said the rooster literally jumped on my plate and grabbed a bite before being shooed away by the restaurant worker. She took the plate away and proceeded to make me a new plate (which was absolutely YUMM). And of course we ate inside! I kinda knew the last time we went that this place wasn't worth the effort. It was just okay, but I wasn't going to leave a review either way. Today was enough for me to say that it has to be done. First the girl at the cash register couldn't muster a greeting or an anything. It seemed like she was mad at the money. I still tipped because I didn't want to screw the people preparing the food. Second the food took forever to come. Then the people behind me were getting their food ahead of me. Mind you I ordered their easiest burrito (potato, eggs and cheese) and a bagel. It took them 25 minutes to work the science behind defrosting a bagel I suppose. The person making it needed to look at the receipt 5 times to figure it out. Before she could get it together she had to change the TV channel. Third the food was basic. Not great and it took close to an 40 minutes to order and wait for it. My husband loves their breakfast burritos, and to be fair, they're pretty big and filling. Personally, I think they're decent, but he's definitely the bigger fan in our household. We shared a Pork Plate and there was plenty for both of us for a decent lunch. We arrived 10 minutes prior to closing yet they were very accommodating. They were out of rice, but provided potato's instead and I am so glad they did!! The potatoes are AMAZING!! The pulled pork is very tender, most, and flavorful! We saw the line for this place, and it was out the door on New Years Day! We grabbed a coffee from another shop and placed an online order for takeout because we were not about to wait in that line. Our order only took about 15 minutes, which wasn't bad considering how long the line was. We got the local bombed and kalua pig sliders. I've been to another Kono's location and have always been a fan of their food. Everything is so flavorful. The local bomber hit the spot - portugese sausage is my favorite meat, so I knew this one was going to be good. The Kalua pork was moist and the perfect amount of salty. During our visit to the North Shore, we tried Kono's for the first time, and I was not disappointed. The food options here are plentiful. They have a great variety of bowls, plates, and breakfast items, and everything looked super fresh and tasty. I ordered the Hawaiian Bowl ($14.99), and it was delicious! The pork was full of flavor and cooked perfectly. It paired so well with the white rice and cabbage. My all-time favorite part of the meal was the BBQ sauce they put on the side. I drowned my food in it, and it made the food even more tasty. My husband also enjoyed his food; he ordered the Pork Plate Lunch ($15.50). Service was good, too! The staff was friendly and welcoming, though they did seem a little annoyed because it took our party of 4 a little bit to figure out what we were all going to order since we had never been there before. Thankfully, the place was slow when we got there, so we weren't in anyone's way when we were standing in front of the counter looking at the menu for a while. Once we ordered, we sat down and got our food quickly. One of the coolest things about this place is their tattoo wall! If someone gets their flying pig logo tattooed, they get 25% off for life. It's such a fun and unique idea, which really adds to the personality of the place. I personally would never do that, but I love seeing the pictures of others haha. However, whenever I travel I do pay attention when I see locals visiting a location. So we decided to grab breakfast here and was so glad we did. The space isnt large but there are some tables inside and out for eating in or for take out. I ate in the shop but its a great option for to-go if you are doing the scenic drive. There was a line, so be prepared to wait to order and for your meal to be prepared. There are hand flow seats inside picnic tables outside as well as a few chairs. The restaurant is lacking in cleanliness, the staff were friendly and menu had various items. We tried the breakfast burritos, you get what you see on the menu, very basic/plain. I feel like even just putting the burrito in a pan/on a grill once stuffed with all of the ingredients would send it over the top. My milkshake (which they don't give me, so I had to go in again and remind them wellafter our food was delivered) was super unflavorful (just tasted like vanilla ice cream), my burrito was super slimy and wasn't wrapped so it fell apart, my husband's biscuit slider plate was a hot mess.
