For 10 AM on a Saturday, the wait was reasonable. The aesthetic is a mixture of diner and Cantina. The wait staff is friendly. Our waitress, Jayme , recommended the Bloody Mary. It did not disappoint. It included an olive, bacon, and a vodka moonshine pickle. Oh so good! The Mexican, hot chocolate, which is seasonal, tasted homemade like Abuela made it. We ordered two opposite breakfasts, the Chilaquiles, and an egg scramble. If you're not afraid of a little heat, the Chilaquiles are made with chicken tinga and served with a medium spiced chili verde sauce. They do not disappoint. We ordered a plain egg scramble, with bacon, nopales, and the fried potatoes. If you ever get an opportunity to try scrambled eggs this way, give it a try. Not only are nopales a family favorite, but combined with bacon they really opened up the flavor of the eggs. As always everything we ate was gluten free. read more

Around noon on Friday. My friend and I came in. We stood in the entrance. Sign said wait to be seated. Noone said hello. A lady came up and pointed and gestured to sit wherever. Gave us menus and water. We looked at the menu, chatting, and waited. Again, no one acknowledged that we were their table. Finally, the waitress that came had walked by us more than a couple times. You can't say Hi? She took our drink order and and asked if we were ready to order. Yes,you gave us more than enough time. I ordered a burger. Asked for cheese. Waitress asked how I like my burger. I said medium surpriseed I was given a choice. She said , you can have it medium rare. I said, yes!: Excited! Only to get a well done burger. She didn't come back until we were almost done. I didn't bother to complain. We also wanted to split our Bill. She dropped the check quickly along with requested take out boxes. We were done waiting for her and being mostly ignored. Toast. Gio's Breakfast & Lunch is a new spot on the site of the old Tres Banderas in AJ. The interior and exterior have been modernized and decorated for a more comfortable visit. The patio is especially cute, and will undoubtedly get a lot of use when the the ground around us isn't lava. It is bright and comfortable inside, with booths and tables that seem to be the same from before. That's really the only thing not upgraded/redecorated. The bar has been corrugated around the perimeter, with colorful inlays on top, and even a few game boards. Cute! The staff is super friendly. We were greeted and seated right away, with drinks almost immediately arriving. We were checked on and refilled adequately. The staff is all masked up, and tables are thoroughly cleaned between guests. There are closed tables and booths for CDC guidelines distancing. Even though AJ has no mask mandate, they are being quite thorough, safe and responsible here. The menu has many options, though I found it to be in the pricier side. Breakfast for 4 was around 65 plus tip...so around 80. A bit steep for breakfast. Mr. P had the traditional Benedict. He thoroughly enjoyed it, and specifically remarked about the smoky, buttery flavor of his hash browns. I didn't care for them, but he loved them. Our male pal had something with potatoes and a big side of gravy. He never complains! Our female companion had the spinach benedict. She said that she had this item before, and it's now her go-to, because she really loves it. I had the avocado toast, and added two sunny eggs on top. This was a flavor volcano! The bread was soft and sweet. The bacon jam was amazing. That was topped with ripe avocados, grape tomato halves and a balsamic reduction. My only complaint on this dish was WAY too much cilantro in top. The flavors were so bold, that it didn't need the distraction. I'm not a cilantro fan anyway, but I left just a small amount to get the desired effect. You can likely see the excess pile at the top of my plate. Too much! Overall, I really loved this place. It was chill, it was fast, and it was a quality meal. I don't know when Motley Crue became easy listening, but I also approve of the light (volume) music. Give this new local joint a try! read more

I'm going to echo Sheila here and say the service was lacking. I was on my lunch, and it took 35 minutes after I ordered to get my burger. I ordered it medium, but it arrived well-done. I was so hungry that I ate about half of it. The lettuce and tomatoes were bland, tasting like typical Sysco fare. The ketchup was cheap and arrived in plastic containers--what an unnecessary waste. The fries were okay, but tasted like they were fried in old oil (a problem at many Arizona restaurants). My server, Kayla, never checked back to see how my food was. The place wasn't filthy, but wasn't exactly tidy, either. To their credit, they did give me a 50% discount on my burger and the manager was very friendly. read more

I honestly feel like they stole from me. There online ordering does not give the option for substitution of foods and given that I'm on keto, that already creates an issue for me. Can't have potatoes or bread. But my first thought was fine, I will pay full price for a good scramble and literally toss the sides. And that is what I got? I paid extra for more veggies, like broccoli. Missing! I paid $2 for avocado, which I'm totally fine with but are you kidding me? That is what I get for $2? We keep going back for the breakfast skillet with the nopales. They are amazing. The service however is all over the place. Even when they are not busy, it is hard to get great service. The regular coffee is also eh. Not that great. They did however recently get a machine for cappuccinos and espressos and it is decent, much better than the regular coffee. They have a few nice patio tables as the weather gets amazing. As long as you are not in a rush, this is a great breakfast spot for good food. Skip the coffee and go with a Bloody Mary or something lol. read more

Really wanted to like this place for the second time, but just couldn't. Got a regular eggs over medium with toast and hash browns. One egg was broke on the plate and the other looked like snot.
